1.    בחדש  השלישי  לצאת 
בני־ישראל  מארץ
מצרים  ביום  הזה
באו  מדבר  סיני׃
    In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.     In the third month after the children of Israel had gone forth out of the land of Egypt, on that same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.     In the third month after the children of Israel went out from Egypt, on the same day, they came into the waste land of Sinai.
 
2.    ויסעו  מרפידים 
ויבאו  מדבר  סיני
ויחנו  במדבר
ויחן־שם  ישראל  נגד
ההר׃
    For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.     When they had departed from Rephidim, and had come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mountain.     And when they had gone away from Rephidim and had come into the waste land of Sinai, they put up their tents in the waste land before the mountain: there Israel put up its tents.
 
3.    ומשה  עלה 
אל־האלהים  ויקרא
אליו  יהוה  מן־ההר
לאמר  כה  תאמר  לבית
יעקב  ותגיד  לבני
ישראל׃
    And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;     Moses went up to God, and Yahweh called to him out of the mountain, saying, "This is what you shall tell the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:     And Moses went up to God, and the voice of the Lord came to him from the mountain, saying, Say to the family of Jacob, and give word to the children of Israel:
 
4.    אתם  ראיתם  אשר 
עשיתי  למצרים  ואשא
אתכם  על־כנפי
נשרים  ואבא  אתכם
אלי׃
    Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.     'You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you to myself.     You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I took you, as on eagles' wings, guiding you to myself.
 
5.    ועתה  אם־שמוע 
תשמעו  בקלי  ושמרתם
את־בריתי  והייתם
לי  סגלה  מכל־
העמים  כי־לי
כל־הארץ׃
    Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:     Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine;     If now you will truly give ear to my voice and keep my agreement, you will be my special property out of all the peoples: for all the earth is mine:
 
6.    ואתם  תהיו־לי 
ממלכת  כהנים  וגוי
קדוש  אלה  הדברים
אשר  תדבר  אל־בני
ישראל׃
    And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.     and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."     And you will be a kingdom of priests to me, and a holy nation. These are the words which you are to say to the children of Israel.
 
7.    ויבא  משה  ויקרא 
לזקני  העם  וישם
לפניהם  את
כל־הדברים  האלה
אשר  צוהו  יהוה׃
    And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.     Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Yahweh commanded him.     And Moses came and sent for the chiefs of the people and put before them all these words which the Lord had given him orders to say.
 
8.    ויענו  כל־העם  יחדו 
ויאמרו  כל  אשר־דבר
יהוה  נעשה  וישב
משה  את־  דברי  העם
אל־יהוה׃
    And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.     All the people answered together, and said, "All that Yahweh has spoken we will do." Moses reported the words of the people to Yahweh.     And all the people, answering together, said, Whatever the Lord has said we will do. And Moses took back to the Lord the words of the people.
 
9.    ויאמר  יהוה  אל־משה 
הנה  אנכי  בא  אליך
בעב  הענן  בעבור
ישמע  העם  בדברי
עמך  וגם־בך  יאמינו
לעולם  ויגד  משה
את־דברי  העם
אל־יהוה׃
    And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.     Yahweh said to Moses, "Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever." Moses told the words of the people to Yahweh.     And the Lord said to Moses, See, I will come to you in a thick cloud, so that what I say to you may come to the ears of the people and they may have belief in you for ever. And Moses gave the Lord word of what the people had said.
 
10.    ויאמר  יהוה  אל־משה 
לך  אל־העם  וקדשתם
היום  ומחר  וכבסו
שמלתם׃
    And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,     Yahweh said to Moses, "Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments,     And the Lord said to Moses, Go to the people and make them holy today and tomorrow, and let their clothing be washed.
 
11.    והיו  נכנים  ליום 
השלישי  כי  ביום
השלשי  ירד  יהוה
לעיני  כל־העם
על־הר  סיני׃
    And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.     and be ready against the third day; for on the third day Yahweh will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai.     And by the third day let them be ready: for on the third day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai, before the eyes of all the people.
 
12.    והגבלת  את־העם 
סביב  לאמר  השמרו
לכם  עלות  בהר  ונגע
בקצהו  כל־  הנגע
בהר  מות  יומת׃
    And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:     You shall set bounds to the people all around, saying, 'Be careful that you don't go up onto the mountain, or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain shall be surely put to death.     And let limits be marked out for the people round the mountain, and say to them, Take care not to go up the mountain or near the sides of it: whoever puts his foot on the mountain will certainly come to his death:
 
13.    לא־תגע  בו  יד 
כי־סקול  יסקל
או־ירה  יירה
אם־בהמה  אם־איש  לא
יחיה  במשך  היבל
המה  יעלו  בהר׃
    There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.     No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether it is animal or man, he shall not live.' When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come up to the mountain."     He is not to be touched by a hand, but is to be stoned or have an arrow put through him; man or beast, he is to be put to death: at the long sounding of a horn they may come up to the mountain.
 
14.    וירד  משה  מן־ההר 
אל־העם  ויקדש
את־העם  ויכבסו
שמלתם׃
    And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.     Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.     Then Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and made the people holy; and their clothing was washed.
 
15.    ויאמר  אל־העם  היו 
נכנים  לשלשת  ימים
אל־תגשו  אל־אשה׃
    And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.     He said to the people, "Be ready by the third day. Don't have sexual relations with a woman."     And he said to the people, Be ready by the third day: do not come near a woman.
 
16.    ויהי  ביום  השלישי 
בהית  הבקר  ויהי
קלת  וברקים  וענן
כבד  על־ההר  וקל
שפר  חזק  מאד  ויחרד
כל־העם  אשר  במחנה׃
    And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.     It happened on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud trumpet; and all the people who were in the camp trembled.     And when morning came on the third day, there were thunders and flames and a thick cloud on the mountain, and a horn sounding very loud; and all the people in the tents were shaking with fear.
 
17.    ויוצא  משה  את־העם 
לקראת  האלהים
מן־המחנה  ויתיצבו
בתחתית  ההר׃
    And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.     Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the lower part of the mountain.     And Moses made the people come out of their tents and take their places before God; and they came to the foot of the mountain,
 
18.    והר  סיני  עשן  כלו 
מפני  אשר  ירד  עליו
יהוה  באש  ויעל
עשנו  כעשן  הכבשן
ויחרד  כל־ההר  מאד׃
    And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.     Mount Sinai, all it, smoked, because Yahweh descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.     And all the mountain of Sinai was smoking, for the Lord had come down on it in fire: and the smoke of it went up like the smoke of a great burning; and all the mountain was shaking.
 
19.    ויהי  קול  השפר 
הולך  וחזק  מאד  משה
ידבר  והאלהים
יעננו  בקול׃
    And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.     When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.     And when the sound of the horn became louder and louder, Moses' words were answered by the voice of God.
 
20.    וירד  יהוה  על־הר 
סיני  אל־ראש  ההר
ויקרא  יהוה  למשה
אל־ראש  ההר  ויעל
משה׃
    And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.     Yahweh came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. Yahweh called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.     Then the Lord came down on to Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain, and the Lord sent for Moses to come up to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
 
21.    ויאמר  יהוה  אל־משה 
רד  העד  בעם
פן־יהרסו  אל־יהוה
לראות  ונפל  ממנו
רב׃
    And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.     Yahweh said to Moses, "Go down, warn the people, lest they break through to Yahweh to gaze, and many of them perish.     And the Lord said to Moses, Go down and give the people orders to keep back, for fear that a great number of them, forcing their way through to see the Lord, may come to destruction.
 
22.    וגם  הכהנים  הנגשים 
אל־יהוה  יתקדשו
פן־יפרץ  בהם  יהוה׃
    And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.     Let the priests also, who come near to Yahweh, sanctify themselves, lest Yahweh break forth on them."     And let the priests who come near to the Lord make themselves holy, for fear that the Lord may come on them suddenly.
 
23.    ויאמר  משה  אל־יהוה 
לא־יוכל  העם  לעלת
אל־הר  סיני  כי־אתה
העדתה  בנו  לאמר
הגבל  את־ההר
וקדשתו׃
    And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.     Moses said to Yahweh, "The people can't come up to Mount Sinai, for you warned us, saying, 'Set bounds around the mountain, and sanctify it.'"     And Moses said to the Lord, The people will not be able to come up the mountain, for you gave us orders to put limits round the mountain, marking it out and making it holy.
 
24.    ויאמר  אליו  יהוה 
לך־רד  ועלית  אתה
ואהרן  עמך  והכהנים
והעם  אל־  יהרסו
לעלת  אל־יהוה
פן־יפרץ־בם׃
    And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.     Yahweh said to him, "Go down and you shall bring Aaron up with you, but don't let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh, lest he break forth on them."     And the Lord said to him, Go down, and you and Aaron may come up; but let not the priests and the people make their way through to the Lord, or he will come on them suddenly.
 
25.    וירד  משה  אל־העם 
ויאמר  אלהם׃
    So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.     So Moses went down to the people, and told them.     So Moses went down to the people and said this to them.
