הות לאביו בן כסיל ודלף טרד מדיני אשה׃ |

יסר בנך כי־יש תקוה ואל־המיתו אל־תשא נפשך׃ |

גרל־חמה נשא ענש כי אם־תציל ועוד תוסף׃ |

שמע עצה וקבל מוסר למען תחכם באחריתך׃ |

רבות מחשבות בלב־איש ועצת יהוה היא תקום׃ |

יראת יהוה לחיים ושבע ילין בל־יפקד רע׃ |
The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. | The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble. | The fear of the Lord gives life: and he who has it will have need of nothing; no evil will come his way. | |||

לץ תכה ופתי יערם והוכיח לנבון יבין דעת׃ |
Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge. | Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge. | When blows overtake the man of pride, the simple will get sense; say sharp words to the wise, and knowledge will be made clear to him. | |||

משדד־אב יבריח אם בן מביש ומחפיר׃ |
He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach. | He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach. | He who is violent to his father, driving away his mother, is a son causing shame and a bad name. | |||

חדל־בני לשמע מוסר לשגות מאמרי־דעת׃ |
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. | If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge. | A son who no longer gives attention to teaching is turned away from the words of knowledge. | |||

עד בליעל יליץ משפט ופי רשעים יבלע־און׃ |
An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity. | A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity. | A good-for-nothing witness makes sport of the judge's decision: and the mouth of evil-doers sends out evil like a stream. | |||

נכונו ללצים שפטים ומהלמות לגו כסילים׃ |
Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools. | Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools. | Rods are being made ready for the man of pride, and blows for the back of the foolish. | |||
