הפכפך דרך איש וזר וזך ישר פעלו׃ |

נפש רשע אותה־רע לא־יחן בעיניו רעהו׃ |
The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes. | The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes. | The desire of the evil-doer is fixed on evil: he has no kind feeling for his neighbour. | |||

בענש־לץ יחכם־פתי ובהשכיל לחכם יקח־דעת׃ |
When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge. | When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge. | When the man of pride undergoes punishment, the simple man gets wisdom; and by watching the wise he gets knowledge. | |||

אדם תועה מדרך השכל בקהל רפאים ינוח׃ |

כפר לצדיק רשע ותחת ישרים בוגד׃ |
The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright. | The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; the treacherous for the upright. | The evil-doer will be given as a price for the life of the good man, and the worker of deceit in the place of the upright. | |||

טוב שבת בארץ־מדבר מאשת מדונים וכעס׃ |
It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman. | It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman. | It is better to be living in a waste land, than with a bitter-tongued and angry woman. | |||

אוצר נחמד ושמן בנוה חכם וכסיל אדם יבלענו׃ |

רדף צדקה וחסד ימצא חיים צדקה וכבוד׃ |

שמר פיו ולשונו שמר מצרות נפשו׃ |

זד יהיר לץ שמו עושה בעברת זדון׃ |

תאות עצל תמיתנו כי־מאנו ידיו לעשות׃ |
The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour. | The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor. | The desire of the hater of work is death to him, for his hands will do no work. | |||

כל־היום התאוה תאוה וצדיק יתן ולא יחשך׃ |
He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not. | There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and don't withhold. | All the day the sinner goes after his desire: but the upright man gives freely, keeping nothing back. | |||

זבח רשעים תועבה אף כי־בזמה יביאנו׃ |
The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind? | The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind! | The offering of evil-doers is disgusting: how much more when they give it with an evil purpose! | |||

עד־כזבים יאבד ואיש שומע לנצח ידבר׃ |

העז איש רשע בפניו וישר הוא יכין דרכיו׃ |

אין חכמה ואין תבונה ואין עצה לנגד יהוה׃ |
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD. | There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Yahweh. | Wisdom and knowledge and wise suggestions are of no use against the Lord. | |||

סוס מוכן ליום מלחמה וליהוה התשועה׃ |
The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD. | The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with Yahweh. | The horse is made ready for the day of war, but power to overcome is from the Lord. | |||
