בני תורתי אל־תשכח ומצותי יצר לבך׃ |

כי ארך ימים ושנות חיים ושלום יוסיפו לך׃ |
For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. | for length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they add to you. | For they will give you increase of days, years of life, and peace. | |||
3. |
חסד ואמת אל־יעזבך קשרם על־גרגרותיך כתבם על־לוח לבך׃ |
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: | Don't let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart. | Let not mercy and good faith go from you; let them be hanging round your neck, recorded on your heart; | |||

ומצא־חן ושכל־טוב בעיני אלהים ואדם׃ |
So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. | So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man. | So you will have grace and a good name in the eyes of God and men. | |||
5. |
בטח אל־יהוה בכל־לבך ואל־בינתך אל־תשען׃ |
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. | Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. | Put all your hope in God, not looking to your reason for support. | |||

בכל־דרכיך דעהו והוא יישר ארחתיך׃ |
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. | In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. | In all your ways give ear to him, and he will make straight your footsteps. | |||

אל־תהי חכם בעיניך ירא את־יהוה וסור מרע׃ |
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. | Don't be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil. | Put no high value on your wisdom: let the fear of the Lord be before you, and keep yourself from evil: | |||

רפאות תהי לשרך ושקוי לעצמותיך׃ |
It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. | It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones. | This will give strength to your flesh, and new life to your bones. | |||
9. |
כבד את־יהוה מהונך ומראשית כל־תבואתך׃ |
Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: | Honor Yahweh with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase: | Give honour to the Lord with your wealth, and with the first-fruits of all your increase: | |||

וימלאו אסמיך שבע ותירוש יקביך יפרצו׃ |
So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. | so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine. | So your store-houses will be full of grain, and your vessels overflowing with new wine. | |||

מוסר יהוה בני אל־תמאס ואל־תקץ בתוכחתו׃ |
My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: | My son, don't despise Yahweh's discipline, neither be weary of his reproof: | My son, do not make your heart hard against the Lord's teaching; do not be made angry by his training: | |||

כי את אשר יאהב יהוה יוכיח וכאב את־בן ירצה׃ |
For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. | for whom Yahweh loves, he reproves; even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights. | For to those who are dear to him the Lord says sharp words, and makes the son in whom he has delight undergo pain. | |||
13. |
אשרי אדם מצא חכמה ואדם יפיק תבונה׃ |
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. | Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. | Happy is the man who makes discovery of wisdom, and he who gets knowledge. | |||
14. |
כי טוב סחרה מסחר־כסף ומחרוץ תבואתה׃ |
For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. | For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. | For trading in it is better than trading in silver, and its profit greater than bright gold. | |||

יקרה היא מפניים וכל־חפציך לא ישוו־בה׃ |
She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. | She is more precious than rubies. ארך ימים בימינה בשמאולה עשר וכבוד׃ |

דרכיה דרכי־נעם וכל־נתיבותיה שלום׃ |

עץ־חיים היא למחזיקים בה ותמכיה מאשר׃ |

יהוה בחכמה יסד־ארץ כונן שמים בתבונה׃ |

בני אל־ילזו מעיניך נצר תשיה ומזמה׃ |
My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: | My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion: | My son, keep good sense, and do not let wise purpose go from your eyes. | |||

ויהיו חיים לנפשך וחן לגרגרתיך׃ |
So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. | so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck. | So they will be life for your soul, and grace for your neck. | |||
23. |
אז תלך לבטח דרכך ורגלך לא תגוף׃ |
Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. | Then you shall walk in your way securely. Your foot won't stumble. | Then you will go safely on your way, and your feet will have no cause for slipping. | |||
24. |
אם־תשכב לא־תפחד ושכבת וערבה שנתך׃ |
When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. | When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet. | When you take your rest you will have no fear, and on your bed sleep will be sweet to you. | |||

אל־תירא מפחד פתאם ומשאת רשעים כי תבא׃ |
Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. | Don't be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes: | Have no fear of sudden danger, or of the storm which will come on evil-doers: | |||

כי־יהוה יהיה בכסלך ושמר רגלך מלכד׃ |
For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. | for Yahweh will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken. | For the Lord will be your hope, and will keep your foot from being taken in the net. | |||

אל־תמנע־טוב מבעליו בהיות לאל ידיך לעשות׃ |
Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. | Don't withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. | Do not keep back good from those who have a right to it, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. | |||

אל־תאמר לרעיך לך ושוב ומחר אתן ויש אתך׃ |
Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. | Don't say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you," when you have it by you. | Say not to your neighbour, Go, and come again, and tomorrow I will give; when you have it by you at the time. | |||

אל־תחרש על־רעך רעה והוא־יושב לבטח אתך׃ |
Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. | Don't devise evil against your neighbor, seeing he dwells securely by you. | Do not make evil designs against your neighbour, when he is living with you without fear. | |||
30. |
אל־תרוב עם־אדם חנם אם־לא גמלך רעה׃ |
Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm. | Don't strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm. | Do not take up a cause at law against a man for nothing, if he has done you no wrong. | |||
31. |
אל־תקנא באיש חמס ואל־תבחר בכל־דרכיו׃ |
Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. | Don't envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways. | Have no envy of the violent man, or take any of his ways as an example. | |||
32. |
כי תועבת יהוה נלוז ואת־ישרים סודו׃ |
For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous. | For the perverse is an abomination to Yahweh, but his friendship is with the upright. | For the wrong-hearted man is hated by the Lord, but he is a friend to the upright. | |||
33. |
מארת יהוה בבית רשע ונוה צדיקים יברך׃ |
The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. | Yahweh's curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the habitation of the righteous. | The curse of the Lord is on the house of the evil-doer, but his blessing is on the tent of the upright. | |||
34. |
אם־ללצים הוא־יליץ ולעניים יתן־חן׃ |
Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. | Surely he mocks the mockers, but he gives grace to the humble. | He makes sport of the men of pride, but he gives grace to the gentle-hearted. | |||
35. |
כבוד חכמים ינחלו וכסילים מרים קלון׃ |
The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools. | The wise will inherit glory, but shame will be the promotion of fools. | The wise will have glory for their heritage, but shame will be the reward of the foolish. | |||
