ויהי דבר־יהוה אלי לאמר׃ |

לא־תקח לך אשה ולא־יהיו לך בנים ובנות במקום הזה׃ |
Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in this place. | You shall not take a wife, neither shall you have sons or daughters, in this place. | You are not to take a wife for yourself or have sons or daughters in this place. | |||

כי־כה אמר יהוה על־הבנים ועל־הבנות הילודים במקום הזה ועל־אמתם הילדות אותם ועל־אבותם המולדים אותם בארץ הזאת׃ |
For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land; | For thus says Yahweh concerning the sons and concerning the daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them, and concerning their fathers who became the father of them in this land: | For this is what the Lord has said about the sons and daughters who come to birth in this place, and about their mothers who have given them birth, and about their fathers who have given life to them in this land: | |||

ממותי תחלאים ימתו לא יספדו ולא יקברו לדמן על־פני האדמה יהיו ובחרב וברעב יכלו והיתה נבלתם למאכל לעוף השמים ולבהמת הארץ׃ |
They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth. | They shall die grievous deaths: they shall not be lamented, neither shall they be buried; they shall be as dung on the surface of the ground; and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their dead bodies shall be food for the birds of the sky, and for the animals of the earth. | Death from evil diseases will overtake them; there will be no weeping for them and their bodies will not be put to rest; they will be like waste on the face of the earth: the sword and need of food will put an end to them; their dead bodies will be meat for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth. | |||

כי־כה אמר יהוה אל־תבוא בית מרזח ואל־תלך לספוד ואל־תנד להם כי־ אספתי את־שלומי מאת העם־הזה נאם־יהוה את־החסד ואת־הרחמים׃ |
For thus saith the LORD, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the LORD, even loving-kindness and mercies. | For thus says Yahweh, Don't enter into the house of mourning, neither go to lament, neither bemoan them; for I have taken away my peace from this people, says Yahweh, even loving kindness and tender mercies. | For this is what the Lord has said: Do not go into the house of sorrow, do not go to make weeping or songs of grief for them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, says the Lord, even mercy and pity. | |||

ומתו גדלים וקטנים בארץ הזאת לא יקברו ולא־יספדו להם ולא יתגדד ולא יקרח להם׃ |
Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them: | Both great and small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them; | Death will overtake great as well as small in the land: their bodies will not be put in a resting-place, and no one will be weeping for them or wounding themselves or cutting off their hair for them: | |||

ולא־יפרסו להם על־אבל לנחמו על־מת ולא־ישקו אותם כוס תנחומים על־ אביו ועל־אמו׃ |
Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother. | neither shall men break [bread] for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother. | No one will make a feast for them in sorrow, to give them comfort for the dead, or put to their lips the cup of comfort on account of their father or their mother. | |||

ובית־משתה לא־תבוא לשבת אותם לאכל ולשתות׃ |
Thou shalt not also go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink. | You shall not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and to drink. | And you are not to go into the house of feasting, or be seated with them to take food or drink. | |||

כי כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל הנני משבית מן־המקום הזה לעיניכם ובימיכם קול ששון וקול שמחה קול חתן וקול כלה׃ |
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride. | For thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. | For the Lord of armies, the God of Israel, has said, See, before your eyes and in your days I will put an end in this place to the laughing voices and the voice of joy; to the voice of the newly-married man and the voice of the bride. | |||

והיה כי תגיד לעם הזה את כל־הדברים האלה ואמרו אליך על־מה דבר יהוה עלינו את כל־הרעה הגדולה הזאת ומה עוננו ומה חטאתנו אשר חטאנו ליהוה אלהינו׃ |
And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God? | It shall happen, when you shall show this people all these words, and they shall tell you, Why has Yahweh pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against Yahweh our God? | And it will be, that when you say all these words to the people, then they will say to you, Why has the Lord done all this evil against us? what is our wrongdoing and what is our sin which we have done against the Lord our God? | |||

ואמרת אליהם על אשר־עזבו אבותיכם אותי נאם־יהוה וילכו אחרי אלהים אחרים ויעבדום וישתחוו להם ואתי עזבו ואת־תורתי לא שמרו׃ |
Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law; | Then you shall tell them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, says Yahweh, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshiped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law; | Then you will say to them, Because your fathers have given me up, says the Lord, and have gone after other gods and become their servants and their worshippers, and have given me up and have not kept my law; | |||

ואתם הרעתם לעשות מאבותיכם והנכם הלכים איש אחרי שררות לבו־הרע לבלתי שמע אלי׃ |
And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me: | and you have done evil more than your fathers; for, behold, you walk every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that you don't listen to me: | And you have done worse evil than your fathers; for see, every one of you is guided by the pride of his evil heart, so as not to give ear to me: | |||

והטלתי אתכם מעל הארץ הזאת על־הארץ אשר לא ידעתם אתם ואבותיכם ועבדתם־שם את־אלהים אחרים יומם ולילה אשר לא־אתן לכם חנינה׃ |
Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour. | therefore will I cast you forth out of this land into the land that you have not known, neither you nor your fathers; and there you shall serve other gods day and night; for I will show you no favor. | For this reason I will send you away out of this land into a land which is strange to you, to you and to your fathers; there you will be the servants of other gods day and night, and you will have no mercy from me. | |||

לכן הנה־ימים באים נאם־יהוה ולא־יאמר עוד חי־יהוה אשר העלה את־ בני ישראל מארץ מצרים׃ |
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; | Therefore, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that it shall no more be said, As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; | For this cause, see, the days are coming, says the Lord, when it will no longer be said, By the living Lord, who took the children of Israel up out of the land of Egypt. | |||

כי אם־חי־יהוה אשר העלה את־בני ישראל מארץ צפון ומכל הארצות אשר הדיחם שמה והשבתים על־אדמתם אשר נתתי לאבותם׃ |
But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers. | but, As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the countries where he had driven them. I will bring them again into their land that I gave to their fathers. | But, By the living Lord, who took the children of Israel up out of the land of the north, and from all the countries where he had sent them: and I will take them back again to their land which I gave to their fathers. | |||

הנני שלח לדוגים רבים נאם־יהוה ודיגום ואחרי־כן אשלח לרבים צידים וצדום מעל כל־הר ומעל כל־גבעה ומנקיקי הסלעים׃ |
Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. | Behold, I will send for many fishermen, says Yahweh, and they shall fish them up; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks. | See, I will send for great numbers of fishermen, says the Lord, and they will take them like fish in a net; and after that, I will send for numbers of bowmen, and they will go after them, driving them from every mountain and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. | |||

כי עיני על־כל־דרכיהם לא נסתרו מלפני ולא־נצפן עונם מנגד עיני׃ |
For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes. | For my eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from my face, neither is their iniquity concealed from my eyes. | For my eyes are on all their ways: there is no cover for them from my face, and their evil-doing is not kept secret from my eyes. | |||

ושלמתי ראשונה משנה עונם וחטאתם על חללם את־ארצי בנבלת שקוציהם ותועבותיהם מלאו את־נחלתי׃ |
And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things. | First I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations. | And I will give them the reward of their evil-doing and their sin twice over; because they have made my land unclean, and have made my heritage full of the bodies of their unholy and disgusting things. | |||

יהוה עזי ומעזי ומנוסי ביום צרה אליך גוים יבאו מאפסי־ארץ ויאמרו אך־שקר נחלו אבותינו הבל ואין־בם מועיל׃ |
O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. | Yahweh, my strength, and my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of affliction, to you shall the nations come from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies, [even] vanity and things in which there is no profit. | O Lord, my strength and my strong tower, my safe place in the day of trouble, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, and say, The heritage of our fathers is nothing but deceit, even false things in which there is no profit. | |||

היעשה־לו אדם אלהים והמה לא אלהים׃ |
Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods? | Shall a man make to himself gods, which yet are no gods? | Will a man make for himself gods which are no gods? | |||
| 21. |
לכן הנני מודיעם בפעם הזאת אודיעם את־ידי ואת־גבורתי וידעו כי־ שמי יהוה׃ |
Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD. | Therefore, behold, I will cause them to know, this once will I cause them to know my hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is Yahweh. | For this reason, truly, I will make them see, this once I will give them knowledge of my hand and my power; and they will be certain that my name is the Lord. | |||
