1.    In the beginning God{The Hebrew word rendered "God" is "Elohim." After "God," the Hebrew has the two letters "Aleph Tav" (the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet) as a grammatical marker.} created the heavens and the earth.     In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.     בראשית  ברא  אלהים 
את  השמים  ואת
הארץ׃
    BUr'aShYTh BUr'a 'aLHYM 'aTh HShMYM V'aTh H'aUrTSh.     In the beginning of God`s preparing the heavens and the earth --     in principio creavit Deus caelum et terram
 
2.    Now the earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep. God's Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.     And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.     והארץ  היתה  תהו 
ובהו  וחשך  על־פני
תהום  ורוח  אלהים
מרחפת  על־פני
המים׃
    VH'aUrTSh HYThH ThHV VBHV VChShK 'yL-PhNY ThHVM VUrVCh 'aLHYM MUrChPhTh 'yL-PhNY HMYM.     the earth hath existed waste and void, and darkness is on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God fluttering on the face of the waters,     terra autem erat inanis et vacua et tenebrae super faciem abyssi et spiritus Dei ferebatur super aquas
 
3.    God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.     And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.     ויאמר  אלהים  יהי 
אור  ויהי־אור׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM YHY 'aVUr VYHY-'aVUr.     and God saith, `Let light be;` and light is.     dixitque Deus fiat lux et facta est lux
 
4.    God saw the light, and saw that it was good. God divided the light from the darkness.     And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.     וירא  אלהים 
את־האור  כי־טוב
ויבדל  אלהים  בין
האור  ובין  החשך׃
    VYUr'a 'aLHYM 'aTh-H'aVUr KY-TVB VYBDL 'aLHYM BYN H'aVUr VBYN HChShK.     And God seeth the light that it is good, and God separateth between the light and the darkness,     et vidit Deus lucem quod esset bona et divisit lucem ac tenebras
 
5.    God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." There was evening and there was morning, one day.     And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.     ויקרא  אלהים  לאור 
יום  ולחשך  קרא
לילה  ויהי־ערב
ויהי־בקר  יום  אחד׃
    VYQUr'a 'aLHYM L'aVUr YVM VLChShK QUr'a LYLH VYHY-'yUrB VYHY-BQUr YVM 'aChD.     and God calleth to the light `Day,` and to the darkness He hath called `Night;` and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day one.     appellavitque lucem diem et tenebras noctem factumque est vespere et mane dies unus
 
6.    God said, "Let there be an expanse in the middle of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters."     And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.     ויאמר  אלהים  יהי 
רקיע  בתוך  המים
ויהי  מבדיל  בין
מים  למים׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM YHY UrQY'y BThVK HMYM VYHY MBDYL BYN MYM LMYM.     And God saith, `Let an expanse be in the midst of the waters, and let it be separating between waters and waters.`     dixit quoque Deus fiat firmamentum in medio aquarum et dividat aquas ab aquis
 
7.    God made the expanse, and divided the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so.     And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.     ויעש  אלהים 
את־הרקיע  ויבדל
בין  המים  אשר  מתחת
לרקיע  ובין  המים
אשר  מעל  לרקיע
ויהי־כן׃
    VY'ySh 'aLHYM 'aTh-HUrQY'y VYBDL BYN HMYM 'aShUr MThChTh LUrQY'y VBYN HMYM 'aShUr M'yL LUrQY'y VYHY-KN.     And God maketh the expanse, and it separateth between the waters which are under the expanse, and the waters which are above the expanse: and it is so.     et fecit Deus firmamentum divisitque aquas quae erant sub firmamento ab his quae erant super firmamentum et factum est ita
 
8.    God called the expanse "sky." There was evening and there was morning, a second day.     And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.     ויקרא  אלהים  לרקיע 
שמים  ויהי־ערב
ויהי־בקר  יום  שני׃
    VYQUr'a 'aLHYM LUrQY'y ShMYM VYHY-'yUrB VYHY-BQUr YVM ShNY.     And God calleth to the expanse `Heavens;` and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day second.     vocavitque Deus firmamentum caelum et factum est vespere et mane dies secundus
 
9.    God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together to one place, and let the dry land appear;" and it was so.     And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.     ויאמר  אלהים  יקוו 
המים  מתחת  השמים
אל־מקום  אחד  ותראה
היבשה  ויהי־  כן׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM YQVV HMYM MThChTh HShMYM 'aL-MQVM 'aChD VThUr'aH HYBShH VYHY- KN.     And God saith, `Let the waters under the heavens be collected unto one place, and let the dry land be seen:` and it is so.     dixit vero Deus congregentur aquae quae sub caelo sunt in locum unum et appareat arida factumque est ita
 
10.    God called the dry land "earth," and the gathering together of the waters he called "seas." God saw that it was good.     And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.     ויקרא  אלהים  ליבשה 
ארץ  ולמקוה  המים
קרא  ימים  וירא
אלהים  כי־  טוב׃

11.    God said, "Let the earth put forth grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind, with its seed in it, on the earth;" and it was so.     And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.     ויאמר  אלהים  תדשא 
הארץ  דשא  עשב
מזריע  זרע  עץ  פרי
עשה  פרי  למינו  אשר
זרעו־בו  על־הארץ
ויהי־כן׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM ThDSh'a H'aUrTSh DSh'a 'yShB MZUrY'y ZUr'y 'yTSh PhUrY 'yShH PhUrY LMYNV 'aShUr ZUr'yV-BV 'yL-H'aUrTSh VYHY-KN.     And God saith, `Let the earth yield tender grass, herb sowing seed, fruit-tree (whose seed is in itself) making fruit after its kind, on the earth:` and it is so.     et ait germinet terra herbam virentem et facientem semen et lignum pomiferum faciens fructum iuxta genus suum cuius semen in semet ipso sit super terram et factum est ita
 
12.    The earth brought forth grass, herbs yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, with its seed in it, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.     And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.     ותוצא  הארץ  דשא

    VThVTSh'a H'aUrTSh DSh'a 'yShB MZUrY'y ZUr'y LMYNHV V'yTSh 'yShH-PhUrY 'aShUr ZUr'yV-BV LMYNHV VYUr'a 'aLHYM KY-TVB.     And the earth bringeth forth tender grass, herb sowing seed after its kind, and tree making fruit (whose seed is in itself) after its kind; and God seeth that it is good;     et protulit terra herbam virentem et adferentem semen iuxta genus suum lignumque faciens fructum et habens unumquodque sementem secundum speciem suam et vidit Deus quod esset bonum
 
13.    There was evening and there was morning, a third day.     And the evening and the morning were the third day.     ויהי־ערב  ויהי־בקר 
יום  שלישי׃
    VYHY-'yUrB VYHY-BQUr YVM ShLYShY.     and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day third.     factumque est vespere et mane dies tertius
 
14.    God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of sky to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years;     And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:     ויאמר  אלהים  יהי 
מארת  ברקיע  השמים
להבדיל  בין  היום
ובין  הלילה  והיו
לאתת  ולמועדים
ולימים  ושנים׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM YHY M'aUrTh BUrQY'y HShMYM LHBDYL BYN HYVM VBYN HLYLH VHYV L'aThTh VLMV'yDYM VLYMYM VShNYM.     And God saith, `Let luminaries be in the expanse of the heavens, to make a separation between the day and the night, then they have been for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years,     dixit autem Deus fiant luminaria in firmamento caeli ut dividant diem ac noctem et sint in signa et tempora et dies et annos
 
15.    and let them be for lights in the expanse of sky to give light on the earth;" and it was so.     And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.     והיו  למאורת  ברקיע 
השמים  להאיר
על־הארץ  ויהי־כן׃
    VHYV LM'aVUrTh BUrQY'y HShMYM LH'aYUr 'yL-H'aUrTSh VYHY-KN.     and they have been for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth:` and it is so.     ut luceant in firmamento caeli et inluminent terram et factum est ita
 
16.    God made the two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He also made the stars.     And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.     ויעש  אלהים  את־שני 
המארת  הגדלים
את־המאור  הגדל
לממשלת  היום  ואת־
המאור  הקטן  לממשלת
הלילה  ואת
הכוכבים׃
    VY'ySh 'aLHYM 'aTh-ShNY HM'aUrTh HGDLYM 'aTh-HM'aVUr HGDL LMMShLTh HYVM V'aTh- HM'aVUr HQTN LMMShLTh HLYLH V'aTh HKVKBYM.     And God maketh the two great luminaries, the great luminary for the rule of the day, and the small luminary -- and the stars -- for the rule of the night;     fecitque Deus duo magna luminaria luminare maius ut praeesset diei et luminare minus ut praeesset nocti et stellas
 
17.    God set them in the expanse of sky to give light to the earth,     And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,     ויתן  אתם  אלהים 
ברקיע  השמים  להאיר
על־הארץ׃
    VYThN 'aThM 'aLHYM BUrQY'y HShMYM LH'aYUr 'yL-H'aUrTSh.     and God giveth them in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth,     et posuit eas in firmamento caeli ut lucerent super terram
 
18.    and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. God saw that it was good.     And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.     ולמשל  ביום  ובלילה 
ולהבדיל  בין  האור
ובין  החשך  וירא
אלהים  כי־  טוב׃
    VLMShL BYVM VBLYLH VLHBDYL BYN H'aVUr VBYN HChShK VYUr'a 'aLHYM KY- TVB.     and to rule over day and over night, and to make a separation between the light and the darkness; and God seeth that it is good;     et praeessent diei ac nocti et dividerent lucem ac tenebras et vidit Deus quod esset bonum
 
19.    There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.     And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.     ויהי־ערב  ויהי־בקר 
יום  רביעי׃
    VYHY-'yUrB VYHY-BQUr YVM UrBY'yY.     and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day fourth.     et factum est vespere et mane dies quartus
 
20.    God said, "Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of sky."     And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.     ויאמר  אלהים  ישרצו 
המים  שרץ  נפש  חיה
ועוף  יעופף
על־הארץ  על־פני
רקיע  השמים׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM YShUrTShV HMYM ShUrTSh NPhSh ChYH V'yVPh Y'yVPhPh 'yL-H'aUrTSh 'yL-PhNY UrQY'y HShMYM.     And God saith, `Let the waters teem with the teeming living creature, and fowl let fly on the earth on the face of the expanse of the heavens.`     dixit etiam Deus producant aquae reptile animae viventis et volatile super terram sub firmamento caeli
 
21.    God created the large sea creatures, and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed, after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind. God saw that it was good.     And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.     ויברא  אלהים 
את־התנינם  הגדלים
ואת  כל־נפש  החיה
הרמשת  אשר  שרצו
המים  למינהם  ואת
כל־עוף  כנף  למינהו
וירא  אלהים
כי־טוב׃
    VYBUr'a 'aLHYM 'aTh-HThNYNM HGDLYM V'aTh KL-NPhSh HChYH HUrMShTh 'aShUr ShUrTShV HMYM LMYNHM V'aTh KL-'yVPh KNPh LMYNHV VYUr'a 'aLHYM KY-TVB.     And God prepareth the great monsters, and every living creature that is creeping, which the waters have teemed with, after their kind, and every fowl with wing, after its kind, and God seeth that it is good.     creavitque Deus cete grandia et omnem animam viventem atque motabilem quam produxerant aquae in species suas et omne volatile secundum genus suum et vidit Deus quod esset bonum
 
22.    God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."     And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.     ויברך  אתם  אלהים 
לאמר  פרו  ורבו

    VYBUrK 'aThM 'aLHYM L'aMUr PhUrV VUrBV VML'aV 'aTh-HMYM BYMYM VH'yVPh YUrB B'aUrTSh.     And God blesseth them, saying, `Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and the fowl let multiply in the earth:`     benedixitque eis dicens crescite et multiplicamini et replete aquas maris avesque multiplicentur super terram
 
23.    There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.     And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.     ויהי־ערב  ויהי־בקר

24.    God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind, livestock, creeping things, and animals of the earth after their kind;" and it was so.     And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.     ויאמר  אלהים  תוצא 
הארץ  נפש  חיה
למינה  בהמה  ורמש
וחיתו־ארץ  למינה
ויהי־כן׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM ThVTSh'a H'aUrTSh NPhSh ChYH LMYNH BHMH VUrMSh VChYThV-'aUrTSh LMYNH VYHY-KN.     And God saith, `Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind:` and it is so.     dixit quoque Deus producat terra animam viventem in genere suo iumenta et reptilia et bestias terrae secundum species suas factumque est ita
 
25.    God made the animals of the earth after their kind, and the livestock after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind. God saw that it was good.     And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.     ויעש  אלהים  את־חית 
הארץ  למינה
ואת־הבהמה  למינה
ואת  כל־רמש  האדמה
למינהו  וירא  אלהים
כי־טוב׃
    VY'ySh 'aLHYM 'aTh-ChYTh H'aUrTSh LMYNH V'aTh-HBHMH LMYNH V'aTh KL-UrMSh H'aDMH LMYNHV VYUr'a 'aLHYM KY-TVB.     And God maketh the beast of the earth after its kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, and God seeth that it is good.     et fecit Deus bestias terrae iuxta species suas et iumenta et omne reptile terrae in genere suo et vidit Deus quod esset bonum
 
26.    God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."     And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.     ויאמר  אלהים  נעשה 
אדם  בצלמנו
כדמותנו  וירדו
בדגת  הים  ובעוף
השמים  ובבהמה
ובכל־הארץ
ובכל־הרמש  הרמש
על־הארץ׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM N'yShH 'aDM BTShLMNV KDMVThNV VYUrDV BDGTh HYM VB'yVPh HShMYM VBBHMH VBKL-H'aUrTSh VBKL-HUrMSh HUrMSh 'yL-H'aUrTSh.     And God saith, `Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that is creeping on the earth.`     et ait faciamus hominem ad imaginem et similitudinem nostram et praesit piscibus maris et volatilibus caeli et bestiis universaeque terrae omnique reptili quod movetur in terra
 
27.    God created man in his own image. In God's image he created him; male and female he created them.     So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.     ויברא  אלהים 
את־האדם  בצלמו
בצלם  אלהים  ברא
אתו  זכר  ונקבה  ברא
אתם׃
    VYBUr'a 'aLHYM 'aTh-H'aDM BTShLMV BTShLM 'aLHYM BUr'a 'aThV ZKUr VNQBH BUr'a 'aThM.     And God prepareth the man in His image; in the image of God He prepared him, a male and a female He prepared them.     et creavit Deus hominem ad imaginem suam ad imaginem Dei creavit illum masculum et feminam creavit eos
 
28.    God blessed them. God said to them, "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."     And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.     ויברך  אתם  אלהים 
ויאמר  להם  אלהים
פרו  ורבו  ומלאו
את־הארץ  וכבשה
ורדו  בדגת  הים
ובעוף  השמים
ובכל־חיה  הרמשת
על־הארץ׃
    VYBUrK 'aThM 'aLHYM VY'aMUr LHM 'aLHYM PhUrV VUrBV VML'aV 'aTh-H'aUrTSh VKBShH VUrDV BDGTh HYM VB'yVPh HShMYM VBKL-ChYH HUrMShTh 'yL-H'aUrTSh.     And God blesseth them, and God saith to them, `Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over every living thing that is creeping upon the earth.`     benedixitque illis Deus et ait crescite et multiplicamini et replete terram et subicite eam et dominamini piscibus maris et volatilibus caeli et universis animantibus quae moventur super terram
 
29.    God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree, which bears fruit yielding seed. It will be your food.     And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.     ויאמר  אלהים  הנה 
נתתי  לכם
את־כל־עשב  זרע  זרע
אשר  על־פני  כל־
הארץ  ואת־כל־העץ
אשר־בו  פרי־עץ  זרע
זרע  לכם  יהיה
לאכלה׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM HNH NThThY LKM 'aTh-KL-'yShB ZUr'y ZUr'y 'aShUr 'yL-PhNY KL- H'aUrTSh V'aTh-KL-H'yTSh 'aShUr-BV PhUrY-'yTSh ZUr'y ZUr'y LKM YHYH L'aKLH.     And God saith, `Lo, I have given to you every herb sowing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in which is the fruit of a tree sowing seed, to you it is for food;     dixitque Deus ecce dedi vobis omnem herbam adferentem semen super terram et universa ligna quae habent in semet ipsis sementem generis sui ut sint vobis in escam
 
30.    To every animal of the earth, and to every bird of the sky, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food;" and it was so.     And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.     ולכל־חית  הארץ 
ולכל־עוף  השמים
ולכל  רומש  על־הארץ
אשר־בו  נפש  חיה
את־כל־ירק  עשב
לאכלה  ויהי־כן׃
    VLKL-ChYTh H'aUrTSh VLKL-'yVPh HShMYM VLKL UrVMSh 'yL-H'aUrTSh 'aShUr-BV NPhSh ChYH 'aTh-KL-YUrQ 'yShB L'aKLH VYHY-KN.     and to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the heavens, and to every creeping thing on the earth, in which is breath of life, every green herb is for food:` and it is so.     et cunctis animantibus terrae omnique volucri caeli et universis quae moventur in terra et in quibus est anima vivens ut habeant ad vescendum et factum est ita
 
31.    God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. There was evening and there was morning, a sixth day.     And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.     וירא  אלהים

והנה־טוב  מאד
ויהי־ערב  ויהי־בקר
