1.    Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,     Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,     ויען  אליפז  התימני 
ויאמר׃
    VY'yN 'aLYPhZ HThYMNY VY'aMUr.     And Eliphaz the Temanite answereth and saith: --     respondens autem Eliphaz Themanites dixit
 
2.    "If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?     If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?     הנסה  דבר  אליך 
תלאה  ועצר  במלין
מי  יוכל׃
    HNSH DBUr 'aLYK ThL'aH V'yTShUr BMLYN MY YVKL.     Hath one tried a word with thee? -- Thou art weary! And to keep in words who is able?     si coeperimus loqui tibi forsitan moleste accipias sed conceptum sermonem tenere quis possit
 
3.    Behold, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands.     Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.     הנה  יסרת  רבים 
וידים  רפות  תחזק׃
    HNH YSUrTh UrBYM VYDYM UrPhVTh ThChZQ.     Lo, thou hast instructed many, And feeble hands thou makest strong.     ecce docuisti multos et manus lassas roborasti
 
4.    Your words have supported him who was falling, You have made firm the feeble knees.     Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.     כושל  יקימון  מליך 
וברכים  כרעות
תאמץ׃
    KVShL YQYMVN MLYK VBUrKYM KUr'yVTh Th'aMTSh.     The stumbling one do thy words raise up, And bowing knees thou dost strengthen.     vacillantes confirmaverunt sermones tui et genua trementia confortasti
 
5.    But now it is come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.     But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.     כי  עתה  תבוא  אליך 
ותלא  תגע  עדיך
ותבהל׃
    KY 'yThH ThBV'a 'aLYK VThL'a ThG'y 'yDYK VThBHL.     But now, it cometh in unto thee, And thou art weary; It striketh unto thee, and thou art troubled.     nunc autem venit super te plaga et defecisti tetigit te et conturbatus es
 
6.    Isn't your piety your confidence? Isn't the integrity of your ways your hope?     Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?     הלא  יראתך  כסלתך 
תקותך  ותם  דרכיך׃
    HL'a YUr'aThK KSLThK ThQVThK VThM DUrKYK.     Is not thy reverence thy confidence? Thy hope -- the perfection of thy ways?     timor tuus fortitudo tua patientia tua et perfectio viarum tuarum
 
7.    "Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?     Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?     זכר־נא  מי  הוא  נקי 
אבד  ואיפה  ישרים
נכחדו׃
    ZKUr-N'a MY HV'a NQY 'aBD V'aYPhH YShUrYM NKChDV.     Remember, I pray thee, Who, being innocent, hath perished? And where have the upright been cut off?     recordare obsecro te quis umquam innocens perierit aut quando recti deleti sint
 
8.    According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same.     Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.     כאשר  ראיתי  חרשי 
און  וזרעי  עמל
יקצרהו׃
    K'aShUr Ur'aYThY ChUrShY 'aVN VZUr'yY 'yML YQTShUrHV.     As I have seen -- ploughers of iniquity, And sowers of misery, reap it!     quin potius vidi eos qui operantur iniquitatem et seminant dolores et metunt eos
 
9.    By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed.     By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.     מנשמת  אלוה  יאבדו 
ומרוח  אפו  יכלו׃
    MNShMTh 'aLVH Y'aBDV VMUrVCh 'aPhV YKLV.     From the breath of God they perish, And from the spirit of His anger consumed.     flante Deo perisse et spiritu irae eius esse consumptos
 
10.    The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken.     The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.     שאגת  אריה  וקול 
שחל  ושני  כפירים
נתעו׃
    Sh'aGTh 'aUrYH VQVL ShChL VShNY KPhYUrYM NTh'yV.     The roaring of a lion, And the voice of a fierce lion, And teeth of young lions have been broken.     rugitus leonis et vox leaenae et dentes catulorum leonum contriti sunt
 
11.    The old lion perishes for lack of prey. The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.     The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.     ליש  אבד  מבלי־טרף 
ובני  לביא  יתפרדו׃
    LYSh 'aBD MBLY-TUrPh VBNY LBY'a YThPhUrDV.     An old lion is perishing without prey, And the whelps of the lioness do separate.     tigris periit eo quod non haberet praedam et catuli leonis dissipati sunt
 
12.    "Now a thing was secretly brought to me. My ear received a whisper of it.     Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.     ואלי  דבר  יגנב 
ותקח  אזני  שמץ
מנהו׃
    V'aLY DBUr YGNB VThQCh 'aZNY ShMTSh MNHV.     And unto me a thing is secretly brought, And receive doth mine ear a little of it.     porro ad me dictum est verbum absconditum et quasi furtive suscepit auris mea venas susurri eius
 
13.    In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,     In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,     בשעפים  מחזינות 
לילה  בנפל  תרדמה
על־אנשים׃
    BSh'yPhYM MChZYNVTh LYLH BNPhL ThUrDMH 'yL-'aNShYM.     In thoughts from visions of the night, In the falling of deep sleep on men,     in horrore visionis nocturnae quando solet sopor occupare homines
 
14.    fear came on me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake.     Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.     פחד  קראני  ורעדה 
ורב  עצמותי  הפחיד׃
    PhChD QUr'aNY VUr'yDH VUrB 'yTShMVThY HPhChYD.     Fear hath met me, and trembling, And the multitude of my bones caused to fear.     pavor tenuit me et tremor et omnia ossa mea perterrita sunt
 
15.    Then a spirit passed before my face. The hair of my flesh stood up.     Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:     ורוח  על־פני  יחלף 
תסמר  שערת  בשרי׃
    VUrVCh 'yL-PhNY YChLPh ThSMUr Sh'yUrTh BShUrY.     And a spirit before my face doth pass, Stand up doth the hair of my flesh;     et cum spiritus me praesente transiret inhorruerunt pili carnis meae
 
16.    It stood still, but I couldn't discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes. Silence, then I heard a voice, saying,     It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,     יעמד  ולא־אכיר 
מראהו  תמונה  לנגד
עיני  דממה  וקול
אשמע׃
    Y'yMD VL'a-'aKYUr MUr'aHV ThMVNH LNGD 'yYNY DMMH VQVL 'aShM'y.     It standeth, and I discern not its aspect, A similitude is over-against mine eyes, Silence! and a voice I hear:     stetit quidam cuius non agnoscebam vultum imago coram oculis meis et vocem quasi aurae lenis audivi
 
17.    'Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?     Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?     האנוש  מאלוה  יצדק 
אם  מעשהו
יטהר־גבר׃
    H'aNVSh M'aLVH YTShDQ 'aM M'yShHV YTHUr-GBUr.     `Is mortal man than God more righteous? Than his Maker is a man cleaner?     numquid homo Dei conparatione iustificabitur aut factore suo purior erit vir
 
18.    Behold, he puts no trust in his servants. He charges his angels with error.     Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:     הן  בעבדיו  לא 
יאמין  ובמלאכיו
ישים  תהלה׃
    HN B'yBDYV L'a Y'aMYN VBML'aKYV YShYM ThHLH.     Lo, in His servants He putteth no credence, Nor in His messengers setteth praise.`     ecce qui serviunt ei non sunt stabiles et in angelis suis repperit pravitatem
 
19.    How much more, those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!     How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?     אף  שכני  בתי־חמר 
אשר־בעפר  יסודם
ידכאום  לפני־עש׃
    'aPh ShKNY BThY-ChMUr 'aShUr-B'yPhUr YSVDM YDK'aVM LPhNY-'ySh.     Also -- the inhabitants of houses of clay, (Whose foundation is in the dust, They bruise them before a moth.)     quanto magis hii qui habitant domos luteas qui terrenum habent fundamentum consumentur velut a tinea
 
20.    Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any regarding it.     They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.     מבקר  לערב  יכתו 
מבלי  משים  לנצח
יאבדו׃
    MBQUr L'yUrB YKThV MBLY MShYM LNTShCh Y'aBDV.     From morning to evening are beaten down, Without any regarding, for ever they perish.     de mane usque ad vesperum succidentur et quia nullus intellegit in aeternum peribunt
 
21.    Isn't their tent cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.'     Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.     הלא־נסע  יתרם  בם 
ימותו  ולא  בחכמה׃
    HL'a-NS'y YThUrM BM YMVThV VL'a BChKMH.     Hath not their excellency been removed with them? They die, and not in wisdom!     qui autem reliqui fuerint auferentur ex eis morientur et non in sapientia
