1.    "For the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who was the master of a household, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.     For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.     ομοια γαρ εστιν η βασιλεια των ουρανων ανθρωπω οικοδεσποτη οστις εξηλθεν αμα πρωι μισθωσασθαι εργατας εις τον αμπελωνα αυτου     `For the reign of the heavens is like to a man, a householder, who went forth with the morning to hire workmen for his vineyard,     simile est enim regnum caelorum homini patri familias qui exiit primo mane conducere operarios in vineam suam

2.    When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius{A denarius is a silver Roman coin worth 1/25th of a Roman aureus. This was a common wage for a day of farm labor.} a day, he sent them into his vineyard.     And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.     συμφωνησας δε μετα των εργατων εκ δηναριου την ημεραν απεστειλεν αυτους εις τον αμπελωνα αυτου     and having agreed with the workmen for a denary a day, he sent them into his vineyard.     conventione autem facta cum operariis ex denario diurno misit eos in vineam suam

3.    He went out about the third hour,{Time was measured from sunrise to sunset, so the third hour would be about 9:00 AM.} and saw others standing idle in the marketplace.     And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,     και εξελθων περι τριτην ωραν ειδεν αλλους εστωτας εν τη αγορα αργους     `And having gone forth about the third hour, he saw others standing in the market-place idle,     et egressus circa horam tertiam vidit alios stantes in foro otiosos

4.    To them he said, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went their way.     And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.     και εκεινοισ ειπεν υπαγετε και υμεις εις τον αμπελωνα και ο εαν η δικαιον δωσω υμιν     and to these he said, Go ye -- also ye -- to the vineyard, and whatever may be righteous I will give you;     et illis dixit ite et vos in vineam et quod iustum fuerit dabo vobis

5.    Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour,{noon and 3:00 P. M.} and did likewise.     Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.     οι δε απηλθον παλιν [δε] εξελθων περι εκτην και ενατην ωραν εποιησεν ωσαυτως     and they went away. `Again, having gone forth about the sixth and the ninth hour, he did in like manner.     illi autem abierunt iterum autem exiit circa sextam et nonam horam et fecit similiter

6.    About the eleventh hour{5:00 PM} he went out, and found others standing idle. He said to them, 'Why do you stand here all day idle?'     And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?     περι δε την ενδεκατην εξελθων ευρεν αλλους εστωτας και λεγει αυτοις τι ωδε εστηκατε ολην την ημεραν αργοι     And about the eleventh hour, having gone forth, he found others standing idle, and saith to them, Why here have ye stood all the day idle?     circa undecimam vero exiit et invenit alios stantes et dicit illis quid hic statis tota die otiosi

7.    "They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' "He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard, and you will receive whatever is right.'     They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.     λεγουσιν αυτω οτι ουδεις ημας εμισθωσατο λεγει αυτοις υπαγετε και υμεις εις τον αμπελωνα       they say to him, Because no one did hire us; he saith to them, Go ye -- ye also -- to the vineyard, and whatever may be righteous ye shall receive.     dicunt ei quia nemo nos conduxit dicit illis ite et vos in vineam

8.    When evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said to his manager, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last to the first.'     So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.     οψιας δε γενομενης λεγει ο κυριος του αμπελωνος τω επιτροπω αυτου καλεσον τους εργατας και αποδος αυτοις τον μισθον αρξαμενος απο των εσχατων εως των πρωτων     `And evening having come, the lord of the vineyard saith to his steward, Call the workmen, and pay them the reward, having begun from the last -- unto the first.     cum sero autem factum esset dicit dominus vineae procuratori suo voca operarios et redde illis mercedem incipiens a novissimis usque ad primos

9.    "When those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came, they each received a denarius.     And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.     και ελθοντες οι περι την ενδεκατην ωραν ελαβον ανα δηναριον     And they of about the eleventh hour having come, did receive each a denary.     cum venissent ergo qui circa undecimam horam venerant acceperunt singulos denarios

10.    When the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise each received a denarius.     But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.     και ελθοντες οι πρωτοι ενομισαν οτι πλειον λημψονται και ελαβον [το]  ανα δηναριον και αυτοι     `And the first having come, did suppose that they shall receive more, and they received, they also, each a denary,     venientes autem et primi arbitrati sunt quod plus essent accepturi acceperunt autem et ipsi singulos denarios

11.    When they received it, they murmured against the master of the household,     And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,     λαβοντες δε εγογγυζον κατα του οικοδεσποτου     and having received it, they were murmuring against the householder, saying,     et accipientes murmurabant adversus patrem familias

12.    saying, 'These last have spent one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat!'     Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.     λεγοντες ουτοι οι εσχατοι μιαν ωραν εποιησαν και ισους ημιν αυτους εποιησας τοις βαστασασι το βαρος της ημερας και τον καυσωνα     that These, the last, wrought one hour, and thou didst make them equal to us, who were bearing the burden of the day -- and the heat.     dicentes hii novissimi una hora fecerunt et pares illos nobis fecisti qui portavimus pondus diei et aestus

13.    "But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Didn't you agree with me for a denarius?     But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?     ο δε αποκριθεις ενι αυτων ειπεν εταιρε ουκ αδικω σε ουχι δηναριου συνεφωνησας μοι     `And he answering said to one of them, Comrade, I do no unrighteousness to thee; for a denary didst not thou agree with me?     at ille respondens uni eorum dixit amice non facio tibi iniuriam nonne ex denario convenisti mecum

14.    Take that which is yours, and go your way. It is my desire to give to this last just as much as to you.     Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.     αρον το σον και υπαγε θελω δε τουτω τω εσχατω δουναι ως και σοι     take that which is thine, and go; and I will to give to this, the last, also as to thee;     tolle quod tuum est et vade volo autem et huic novissimo dare sicut et tibi

15.    Isn't it lawful for me to do what I want to with what I own? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?'     Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?     [η] ουκ εξεστιν μοι ο θελω ποιησαι εν τοις εμοις η ο οφθαλμος σου πονηρος εστιν οτι εγω αγαθος ειμι     is it not lawful to me to do what I will in mine own? is thine eye evil because I am good?     aut non licet mihi quod volo facere an oculus tuus nequam est quia ego bonus sum

16.    So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen."     So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.     ουτως εσονται οι εσχατοι πρωτοι και οι πρωτοι εσχατοι        So the last shall be first, and the first last, for many are called, and few chosen.`     sic erunt novissimi primi et primi novissimi multi sunt enim vocati pauci autem electi

17.    As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them,     And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,     και αναβαινων ο ιησους εις ιεροσολυμα παρελαβεν τους δωδεκα [μαθητασ] κατ ιδιαν και εν τη οδω ειπεν αυτοις     And Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples by themselves in the way, and said to them,     et ascendens Iesus Hierosolymam adsumpsit duodecim discipulos secreto et ait illis

18.    "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death,     Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,     ιδου αναβαινομεν εις ιεροσολυμα και ο υιος του ανθρωπου παραδοθησεται τοις αρχιερευσιν και γραμματευσιν και κατακρινουσιν αυτον θανατω     `Lo, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man shall be delivered to the chief priests and scribes,     ecce ascendimus Hierosolymam et Filius hominis tradetur principibus sacerdotum et scribis et condemnabunt eum morte

19.    and will hand him over to the Gentiles to mock, to scourge, and to crucify; and the third day he will be raised up."     And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.     και παραδωσουσιν αυτον τοις εθνεσιν εις το εμπαιξαι και μαστιγωσαι και σταυρωσαι και τη τριτη ημερα εγερθησεται     and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the nations to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify, and the third day he will rise again.`     et tradent eum gentibus ad deludendum et flagellandum et crucifigendum et tertia die resurget

20.    Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, kneeling and asking a certain thing of him.     Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.     τοτε προσηλθεν αυτω η μητηρ των υιων ζεβεδαιου μετα των υιων αυτης προσκυνουσα και αιτουσα τι απ αυτου     Then came near to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee, with her sons, bowing and asking something from him,     tunc accessit ad eum mater filiorum Zebedaei cum filiis suis adorans et petens aliquid ab eo

21.    He said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Command that these, my two sons, may sit, one on your right hand, and one on your left hand, in your Kingdom."     And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.     ο δε ειπεν αυτη τι θελεις λεγει αυτω ειπε ινα καθισωσιν ουτοι οι δυο υιοι μου εις εκ δεξιων σου και εις εξ ευωνυμων σου εν τη βασιλεια σου     and he said to her, `What wilt thou?` She saith to him, `Say, that they may sit -- these my two sons -- one on thy right hand, and one on the left, in thy reign.`     qui dixit ei quid vis ait illi dic ut sedeant hii duo filii mei unus ad dexteram tuam et unus ad sinistram in regno tuo

22.    But Jesus answered, "You don't know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" They said to him, "We are able."     But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.     αποκριθεις δε ο ιησους ειπεν ουκ οιδατε τι αιτεισθε δυνασθε πιειν το ποτηριον ο εγω μελλω πινειν     λεγουσιν αυτω δυναμεθα     And Jesus answering said, `Ye have not known what ye ask for yourselves; are ye able to drink of the cup that I am about to drink? and with the baptism that I am baptized with, to be baptized?` They say to him, `We are able.`     respondens autem Iesus dixit nescitis quid petatis potestis bibere calicem quem ego bibiturus sum dicunt ei possumus

23.    He said to them, "You will indeed drink my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with, but to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it is for whom it has been prepared by my Father."     And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.     λεγει αυτοις το μεν ποτηριον μου πιεσθε    το δε καθισαι εκ δεξιων μου και εξ ευωνυμων ουκ εστιν εμον [τουτο] δουναι αλλ οις ητοιμασται υπο του πατρος μου     And he saith to them, `Of my cup indeed ye shall drink, and with the baptism that I am baptized with ye shall be baptized; but to sit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give, but -- to those for whom it hath been prepared by my father.`     ait illis calicem quidem meum bibetis sedere autem ad dexteram meam et sinistram non est meum dare vobis sed quibus paratum est a Patre meo

24.    When the ten heard it, they were indignant with the two brothers.     And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.     και ακουσαντες οι δεκα ηγανακτησαν περι των δυο αδελφων     And the ten having heard, were much displeased with the two brothers,     et audientes decem indignati sunt de duobus fratribus

25.    But Jesus summoned them, and said, "You know that the rulers of the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.     But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.     ο δε ιησους προσκαλεσαμενος αυτους ειπεν οιδατε οτι οι αρχοντες των εθνων κατακυριευουσιν αυτων και οι μεγαλοι κατεξουσιαζουσιν αυτων     and Jesus having called them near, said, `Ye have known that the rulers of the nations do exercise lordship over them, and those great do exercise authority over them,     Iesus autem vocavit eos ad se et ait scitis quia principes gentium dominantur eorum et qui maiores sunt potestatem exercent in eos

26.    It shall not be so among you, but whoever desires to become great among you shall be{TR reads "let him be" instead of "shall be"} your servant.     But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;     ουχ ουτως εσται εν υμιν αλλ ος εαν θελη εν υμιν μεγας γενεσθαι εσται υμων διακονος     but not so shall it be among you, but whoever may will among you to become great, let him be your ministrant;     non ita erit inter vos sed quicumque voluerit inter vos maior fieri sit vester minister

27.    Whoever desires to be first among you shall be your bondservant,     And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:     και ος αν θελη εν υμιν ειναι πρωτος εσται υμων δουλος     and whoever may will among you to be first, let him be your servant;     et qui voluerit inter vos primus esse erit vester servus

28.    even as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."     Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.     ωσπερ ο υιος του ανθρωπου ουκ ηλθεν διακονηθηναι αλλα διακονησαι και δουναι την ψυχην αυτου λυτρον αντι πολλων     even as the Son of Man did not come to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.`     sicut Filius hominis non venit ministrari sed ministrare et dare animam suam redemptionem pro multis

29.    As they went out from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.     And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.     και εκπορευομενων αυτων απο ιεριχω ηκολουθησεν αυτω οχλος πολυς     And they going forth from Jericho, there followed him a great multitude,     et egredientibus eis ab Hiericho secuta est eum turba multa

30.    Behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, you son of David!"     And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.     και ιδου δυο τυφλοι καθημενοι παρα την οδον ακουσαντες οτι ιησους παραγει εκραξαν λεγοντες ελεησον ημας [κυριε] υιος δαυιδ     and lo, two blind men sitting by the way, having heard that Jesus doth pass by, cried, saying, `Deal kindly with us, sir -- Son of David.`     et ecce duo caeci sedentes secus viam audierunt quia Iesus transiret et clamaverunt dicentes Domine miserere nostri Fili David

31.    The multitude rebuked them, telling them that they should be quiet, but they cried out even more, "Lord, have mercy on us, you son of David!"     And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.     ο δε οχλος επετιμησεν αυτοις ινα σιωπησωσιν οι δε μειζον εκραξαν λεγοντες ελεησον ημας κυριε υιος δαυιδ     And the multitude charged them that they might be silent, and they cried out the more, saying, `Deal kindly with us sir -- Son of David.`     turba autem increpabat eos ut tacerent at illi magis clamabant dicentes Domine miserere nostri Fili David

32.    Jesus stood still, and called them, and asked, "What do you want me to do for you?"     And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?     και στας ο ιησους εφωνησεν αυτους και ειπεν τι θελετε ποιησω υμιν     And having stood, Jesus called them, and said, `What will ye that I may do to you?`     et stetit Iesus et vocavit eos et ait quid vultis ut faciam vobis

33.    They told him, "Lord, that our eyes may be opened."     They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.     λεγουσιν αυτω κυριε ινα ανοιγωσιν  οι οφθαλμοι ημων     they say to him, `Sir, that our eyes may be opened;`     dicunt illi Domine ut aperiantur oculi nostri

34.    Jesus, being moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes received their sight, and they followed him.     So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.     σπλαγχνισθεις δε ο ιησους ηψατο των ομματων αυτων και ευθεως ανεβλεψαν  και ηκολουθησαν αυτω     and having been moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.     misertus autem eorum Iesus tetigit oculos eorum et confestim viderunt et secuti sunt eum
