1.    Now indeed even the first{TR adds "tabernacle"} covenant had ordinances of divine service, and an earthly sanctuary.     Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.     ειχε μεν ουν [και] η πρωτη δικαιωματα λατρειας το τε αγιον κοσμικον     It had, indeed, then (even the first tabernacle) ordinances of service, also a worldly sanctuary,     habuit quidem et prius iustificationes culturae et sanctum saeculare

2.    For a tabernacle was prepared. In the first part were the lampstand, the table, and the show bread; which is called the Holy Place.     For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.     σκηνη γαρ κατεσκευασθη η πρωτη εν η η τε λυχνια και η τραπεζα και η προθεσις των αρτων ητις λεγεται αγια     for a tabernacle was prepared, the first, in which was both the lamp-stand, and the table, and the bread of the presence -- which is called `Holy;`     tabernaculum enim factum est primum in quo inerant candelabra et mensa et propositio panum quae dicitur sancta

3.    After the second veil was the tabernacle which is called the Holy of Holies,     And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;     μετα δε το δευτερον καταπετασμα σκηνη η λεγομενη αγια αγιων     and after the second vail a tabernacle that is called `Holy of holies,`     post velamentum autem secundum tabernaculum quod dicitur sancta sanctorum

4.    having a golden altar of incense, and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which was a golden pot holding the manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant;     Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;     χρυσουν εχουσα θυμιατηριον και την κιβωτον της διαθηκης περικεκαλυμμενην παντοθεν χρυσιω εν η σταμνος χρυση εχουσα το μαννα και η ραβδος ααρων η βλαστησασα και αι πλακες της διαθηκης     having a golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid all round about with gold, in which is the golden pot having the manna, and the rod of Aaron that budded, and the tables of the covenant,     aureum habens turibulum et arcam testamenti circumtectam ex omni parte auro in qua urna aurea habens manna et virga Aaron quae fronduerat et tabulae testamenti

5.    and above it cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat, of which things we can't speak now in detail.     And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.     υπερανω δε αυτης χερουβιν δοξης κατασκιαζοντα το ιλαστηριον περι ων ουκ εστιν νυν λεγειν κατα μερος     and over it cherubim of the glory, overshadowing the mercy-seat, concerning which we are not now to speak particularly.     superque eam cherubin gloriae obumbrantia propitiatorium de quibus non est modo dicendum per singula

6.    Now these things having been thus prepared, the priests go in continually into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the services,     Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.     τουτων δε ουτως κατεσκευασμενων εις μεν την πρωτην σκηνην δια παντοσ εισιασιν οι ιερεις τας λατρειας επιτελουντες     And these things having been thus prepared, into the first tabernacle, indeed, at all times the priests do go in, performing the services,     his vero ita conpositis in priori quidem tabernaculo semper introibant sacerdotes sacrificiorum officia consummantes

7.    but into the second the high priest alone, once in the year, not without blood, which he offers for himself, and for the errors of the people.     But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:     εις δε την δευτεραν απαξ του ενιαυτου μονος ο αρχιερευς ου χωρις αιματος ο προσφερει υπερ εαυτου και των του λαου αγνοηματων     and into the second, once in the year, only the chief priest, not apart from blood, which he doth offer for himself and the errors of the people,     in secundo autem semel in anno solus pontifex non sine sanguine quem offert pro sua et populi ignorantia

8.    The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the Holy Place wasn't yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing;     The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:     τουτο δηλουντος του πνευματος του αγιου μηπω πεφανερωσθαι την των αγιων οδον ετι της πρωτης σκηνης εχουσης στασιν     the Holy Spirit this evidencing that not yet hath been manifested the way of the holy places, the first tabernacle having yet a standing;     hoc significante Spiritu Sancto nondum propalatam esse sanctorum viam adhuc priore tabernaculo habente statum

9.    which is a symbol of the present age, where gifts and sacrifices are offered that are incapable, concerning the conscience, of making the worshipper perfect;     Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;     ητις παραβολη εις τον καιρον τον ενεστηκοτα καθ ην δωρα τε και θυσιαι προσφερονται μη δυναμεναι κατα συνειδησιν τελειωσαι τον λατρευοντα     which is a simile in regard to the present time, in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered, which are not able, in regard to conscience, to make perfect him who is serving,     quae parabola est temporis instantis iuxta quam munera et hostiae offeruntur quae non possunt iuxta conscientiam perfectum facere servientem

10.    being only (with meats and drinks and various washings) fleshly ordinances, imposed until a time of reformation.     Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.     μονον επι βρωμασιν και πομασιν και διαφοροις βαπτισμοις δικαιωματα  σαρκος μεχρι καιρου διορθωσεως επικειμενα     only in victuals, and drinks, and different baptisms, and fleshly ordinances -- till the time of reformation imposed upon them.     solummodo in cibis et in potibus et variis baptismis et iustitiis carnis usque ad tempus correctionis inpositis

11.    But Christ having come as a high priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation,     But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;     χριστος δε παραγενομενος αρχιερευς των γενομενων αγαθων δια της μειζονος και τελειοτερας σκηνης ου χειροποιητου τουτ εστιν ου ταυτης της κτισεως     And Christ being come, chief priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands -- that is, not of this creation --     Christus autem adsistens pontifex futurorum bonorum per amplius et perfectius tabernaculum non manufactum id est non huius creationis

12.    nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal redemption.     Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.     ουδε δι αιματος τραγων και μοσχων δια δε του ιδιου αιματος εισηλθεν εφαπαξ εις τα αγια αιωνιαν λυτρωσιν ευραμενος     neither through blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, did enter in once into the holy places, age-during redemption having obtained;     neque per sanguinem hircorum et vitulorum sed per proprium sanguinem introivit semel in sancta aeterna redemptione inventa

13.    For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh:     For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:     ει γαρ το αιμα  τραγων και ταυρων και σποδος δαμαλεως ραντιζουσα τους κεκοινωμενους αγιαζει προς την της σαρκος καθαροτητα     for if the blood of bulls, and goats, and ashes of an heifer, sprinkling those defiled, doth sanctify to the purifying of the flesh,     si enim sanguis hircorum et taurorum et cinis vitulae aspersus inquinatos sanctificat ad emundationem carnis

14.    how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?     How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?     ποσω μαλλον το αιμα του χριστου ος δια πνευματος αιωνιου εαυτον προσηνεγκεν αμωμον τω θεω καθαριει την συνειδησιν ημων απο νεκρων εργων εις το λατρευειν θεω ζωντι     how much more shall the blood of the Christ (who through the age-during Spirit did offer himself unblemished to God) purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?     quanto magis sanguis Christi qui per Spiritum Sanctum semet ipsum obtulit inmaculatum Deo emundabit conscientiam vestram ab operibus mortuis ad serviendum Deo viventi

15.    For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.     And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.     και δια τουτο διαθηκης καινης μεσιτης εστιν οπως θανατου γενομενου εις απολυτρωσιν των επι τη πρωτη διαθηκη παραβασεων την επαγγελιαν λαβωσιν οι κεκλημενοι της αιωνιου κληρονομιας     And because of this, of a new covenant he is mediator, that, death having come, for redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, those called may receive the promise of the age-during inheritance,     et ideo novi testamenti mediator est ut morte intercedente in redemptionem earum praevaricationum quae erant sub priore testamento repromissionem accipiant qui vocati sunt aeternae hereditatis

16.    For where a last will and testament is, there must of necessity be the death of him who made it.     For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.     οπου γαρ διαθηκη θανατον αναγκη φερεσθαι του διαθεμενου     for where a covenant is, the death of the covenant-victim to come in is necessary,     ubi enim testamentum mors necesse est intercedat testatoris

17.    For a will is in force where there has been death, for it is never in force while he who made it lives.     For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.     διαθηκη γαρ επι νεκροις βεβαια επει μηποτε ισχυει οτε ζη ο διαθεμενος     for a covenant over dead victims is stedfast, since it is no force at all when the covenant-victim liveth,     testamentum enim in mortuis confirmatum est alioquin nondum valet dum vivit qui testatus est

18.    Therefore even the first covenant has not been dedicated without blood.     Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.     οθεν ουδε η πρωτη χωρις αιματος εγκεκαινισται     whence not even the first apart from blood hath been initiated,     unde ne primum quidem sine sanguine dedicatum est

19.    For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,     For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,     λαληθεισης γαρ πασης εντολης κατα τον νομον υπο μωυσεως παντι τω λαω λαβων το αιμα των μοσχων [και των τραγων]  μετα υδατος και εριου κοκκινου και υσσωπου αυτο τε το βιβλιον και παντα τον λαον εραντισεν     for every command having been spoken, according to law, by Moses, to all the people, having taken the blood of the calves and goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, he both the book itself and all the people did sprinkle,     lecto enim omni mandato legis a Mose universo populo accipiens sanguinem vitulorum et hircorum cum aqua et lana coccinea et hysopo ipsum quoque librum et omnem populum aspersit

20.    saying, "This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you."{Exodus 24:8}     Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.     λεγων τουτο το αιμα της διαθηκης ης ενετειλατο προς υμας ο θεος     saying, `This is the blood of the covenant that God enjoined unto you,`     dicens hic sanguis testamenti quod mandavit ad vos Deus

21.    Moreover he sprinkled the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry in like manner with the blood.     Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.     και την σκηνην δε και παντα τα σκευη της λειτουργιας τω αιματι ομοιως εραντισεν     and both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the service with blood in like manner he did sprinkle,     etiam tabernaculum et omnia vasa ministerii sanguine similiter aspersit

22.    According to the law, nearly everything is cleansed with blood, and apart from shedding of blood there is no remission.     And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.     και σχεδον εν αιματι παντα καθαριζεται κατα τον νομον και χωρις αιματεκχυσιας ου γινεται αφεσις     and with blood almost all things are purified according to the law, and apart from blood-shedding forgiveness doth not come.     et omnia paene in sanguine mundantur secundum legem et sine sanguinis fusione non fit remissio

23.    It was necessary therefore that the copies of the things in the heavens should be cleansed with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.     It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.     αναγκη ουν τα μεν υποδειγματα των εν τοις ουρανοις τουτοις καθαριζεσθαι αυτα δε τα επουρανια κρειττοσιν θυσιαις παρα ταυτας     It is necessary, therefore, the pattern indeed of the things in the heavens to be purified with these, and the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these;     necesse est ergo exemplaria quidem caelestium his mundari ipsa autem caelestia melioribus hostiis quam istis

24.    For Christ hasn't entered into holy places made with hands, which are representations of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;     For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:     ου γαρ εις χειροποιητα εισηλθεν αγια χριστος αντιτυπα των αληθινων αλλ εις αυτον τον ουρανον νυν εμφανισθηναι τω προσωπω του θεου υπερ ημων     for not into holy places made with hands did the Christ enter -- figures of the true -- but into the heaven itself, now to be manifested in the presence of God for us;     non enim in manufactis sanctis Iesus introiit exemplaria verorum sed in ipsum caelum ut appareat nunc vultui Dei pro nobis

25.    nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest enters into the holy place year by year with blood not his own,     Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;     ουδ ινα πολλακις προσφερη εαυτον ωσπερ ο αρχιερευς εισερχεται εις τα αγια κατ ενιαυτον εν αιματι αλλοτριω     nor that he may many times offer himself, even as the chief priest doth enter into the holy places every year with blood of others;     neque ut saepe offerat semet ipsum quemadmodum pontifex intrat in sancta per singulos annos in sanguine alieno

26.    or else he must have suffered often since the foundation of the world. But now once at the end of the ages, he has been revealed to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.     For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.     επει εδει αυτον πολλακις παθειν απο καταβολης κοσμου νυνι δε απαξ επι συντελεια των αιωνων εις αθετησιν [τησ] αμαρτιας δια της θυσιας αυτου πεφανερωται     since it had behoved him many times to suffer from the foundation of the world, but now once, at the full end of the ages, for putting away of sin through his sacrifice, he hath been manifested;     alioquin oportebat eum frequenter pati ab origine mundi nunc autem semel in consummatione saeculorum ad destitutionem peccati per hostiam suam apparuit

27.    Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment,     And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:     και καθ οσον αποκειται τοις ανθρωποις απαξ αποθανειν μετα δε τουτο κρισις     and as it is laid up to men once to die, and after this -- judgment,     et quemadmodum statutum est hominibus semel mori post hoc autem iudicium

28.    so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many,{Isaiah 53:13} will appear a second time, without sin, to those who are eagerly waiting for him for salvation.     So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.     ουτως και ο χριστος απαξ προσενεχθεις εις το πολλων ανενεγκειν αμαρτιας εκ δευτερου χωρις αμαρτιας οφθησεται τοις αυτον απεκδεχομενοις εις σωτηριαν     so also the Christ, once having been offered to bear the sins of many, a second time, apart from a sin-offering, shall appear, to those waiting for him -- to salvation!     sic et Christus semel oblatus ad multorum exhaurienda peccata secundo sine peccato apparebit expectantibus se in salutem
