1.    και  μετα ταυτα περιεπατει ο ιησουσ εν τη γαλιλαια ου γαρ ηθελεν εν τη ιουδαια περιπατειν οτι εζητουν αυτον οι ιουδαιοι αποκτειναι     After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.     After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn't walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.     After this, Jesus went from place to place in Galilee. He did not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were looking for a chance to put him to death.

2.    ην δε εγγυς η εορτη των ιουδαιων η σκηνοπηγια     Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.     Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.     But the feast of the Jews, the feast of tents, was near.

3.    ειπον ουν προς αυτον οι αδελφοι αυτου μεταβηθι εντευθεν και υπαγε εις την ιουδαιαν ινα και οι μαθηται σου θεωρησουσιν σου τα εργα α ποιεις     His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.     His brothers therefore said to him, "Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.     So his brothers said to him, Go away from here into Judaea so that your disciples may see the works which you do.

4.    ουδεις γαρ τι εν κρυπτω ποιει και ζητει αυτος εν παρρησια ειναι ει ταυτα ποιεις φανερωσον σεαυτον τω κοσμω     For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.     For no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world."     Because no man does things secretly if he has a desire that men may have knowledge of him. If you do these things, let yourself be seen by all men.

5.    ουδε γαρ οι αδελφοι αυτου επιστευον εις αυτον     For neither did his brethren believe in him.     For even his brothers didn't believe in him.     For even his brothers had no belief in him.

6.    λεγει ουν αυτοις ο ιησους ο καιρος ο εμος ουπω παρεστιν ο δε καιρος ο υμετερος παντοτε εστιν ετοιμος     Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.     Jesus therefore said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.     Jesus said to them, My time is still to come, but any time is good for you.

7.    ου δυναται ο κοσμος μισειν υμας εμε δε μισει οτι εγω μαρτυρω περι αυτου οτι τα εργα αυτου πονηρα εστιν     The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.     The world can't hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.     It is not possible for you to be hated by the world; but I am hated by it, because I give witness that what it does is evil.

8.    υμεις αναβητε εις την εορτην εγω ουκ αναβαινω εις την εορτην ταυτην οτι ο  εμος καιροσ ουπω πεπληρωται     Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come.     You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled."     Go you up to the feast: I am not going up now to the feast because my time has not fully come.

9.    ταυτα δε ειπων αυτοσ εμεινεν εν τη γαλιλαια     When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.     Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.     Having said these things to them, he still kept in Galilee.

10.    ως δε ανεβησαν οι αδελφοι αυτου εισ την εορτην τοτε και αυτος ανεβη  ου φανερως αλλα [ωσ] εν κρυπτω     But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.     But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.     But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he went up, not publicly, but in secret.

11.    οι ουν ιουδαιοι εζητουν αυτον εν τη εορτη και ελεγον που εστιν εκεινος     Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?     The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, "Where is he?"     At the feast the Jews were looking for him and saying, Where is he?

12.    και γογγυσμος περι αυτου ην πολυσ εν τοις οχλοις οι μεν ελεγον οτι αγαθος εστιν αλλοι [δε] ελεγον ου αλλα πλανα τον οχλον     And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.     There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so, but he leads the multitude astray."     And there was much discussion about him among the mass of the people. Some said, He is a good man; but others said, No, he is giving people false ideas.

13.    ουδεις μεντοι παρρησια ελαλει περι αυτου δια τον φοβον των ιουδαιων     Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.     Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.     But no man said anything about him openly for fear of the Jews.

14.    ηδη δε της εορτης μεσουσης ανεβη ιησους εις το ιερον και εδιδασκεν     Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.     But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.     Now in the middle of the feast Jesus went up to the Temple and was teaching.

15.    εθαυμαζον ουν οι ιουδαιοι λεγοντες πως ουτος γραμματα οιδεν μη μεμαθηκως     And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?     The Jews therefore marveled, saying, "How does this man know letters, having never been educated?"     Then the Jews were surprised and said, How has this man got knowledge of books? He has never been to school.

16.    απεκριθη ουν αυτοις [ο] ιησους και ειπεν η εμη διδαχη ουκ εστιν εμη αλλα του πεμψαντος με     Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.     Jesus therefore answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.     Jesus gave them this answer: It is not my teaching, but his who sent me.

17.    εαν τις θελη το θελημα αυτου ποιειν γνωσεται περι της διδαχης ποτερον εκ του θεου εστιν η εγω απ εμαυτου λαλω     If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.     If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.     If any man is ready to do God's pleasure he will have knowledge of the teaching and of where it comes from--from God or from myself.

18.    ο αφ εαυτου λαλων την δοξαν την ιδιαν ζητει ο δε ζητων την δοξαν του πεμψαντος αυτον ουτος αληθης εστιν και αδικια εν αυτω ουκ εστιν     He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.     He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.     The man whose words come from himself is looking for glory for himself, but he who is looking for the glory of him who sent him--that man is true and there is no evil in him.

19.    ου μωυσησ δεδωκεν υμιν τον νομον και ουδεις εξ υμων ποιει τον νομον τι με ζητειτε αποκτειναι     Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?     Didn't Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?"     Did not Moses give you the law? Even so, not one of you keeps the law. Why have you a desire to put me to death?

20.    απεκριθη ο οχλος  δαιμονιον εχεις τις σε ζητει αποκτειναι     The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?     The multitude answered, "You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?"     The people said in answer, You have an evil spirit: who has any desire to put you to death?

21.    απεκριθη ιησους και ειπεν αυτοις εν εργον εποιησα και παντες θαυμαζετε     Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.     Jesus answered them, "I did one work, and you all marvel because of it.     This was the answer of Jesus: I have done one work and you are all surprised at it.

22.    δια τουτο μωυσησ δεδωκεν υμιν την περιτομην ουχ οτι εκ του μωυσεωσ εστιν αλλ εκ των πατερων και εν σαββατω περιτεμνετε ανθρωπον     Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.     Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.     Moses gave you circumcision--not that it comes from Moses, but from the fathers--and even on the Sabbath you give a child circumcision.

23.    ει περιτομην λαμβανει ανθρωπος εν σαββατω ινα μη λυθη ο νομος μωυσεωσ εμοι χολατε οτι ολον ανθρωπον υγιη εποιησα εν σαββατω     If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?     If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?     If a child is given circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?

24.    μη κρινετε κατ οψιν αλλα την δικαιαν κρισιν κρινετε     Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.     Don't judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment."     Let not your decisions be based on what you see, but on righteousness.

25.    ελεγον ουν τινες εκ των ιεροσολυμιτων ουχ ουτος εστιν ον ζητουσιν αποκτειναι     Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?     Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, "Isn't this he whom they seek to kill?     Then some of the people of Jerusalem said, Is not this the man whose death is desired?

26.    και ιδε παρρησια λαλει και ουδεν αυτω λεγουσιν μηποτε αληθως εγνωσαν οι αρχοντες οτι ουτος εστιν ο χριστος     But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?     Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?     And here he is talking openly and they say nothing to him! Is it possible that the rulers have knowledge that this is truly the Christ?

27.    αλλα τουτον οιδαμεν ποθεν εστιν ο δε χριστος οταν ερχηται ουδεις γινωσκει ποθεν εστιν     Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.     However we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from."     However, it is clear to us where this man comes from: but when the Christ comes no one will have knowledge where he comes from.

28.    εκραξεν ουν εν τω ιερω διδασκων ο ιησους και λεγων καμε οιδατε και οιδατε ποθεν ειμι και απ εμαυτου ουκ εληλυθα αλλ εστιν αληθινος ο πεμψας με ον υμεις ουκ οιδατε     Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.     Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, "You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don't know.     Then, when he was teaching in the Temple, Jesus said with a loud voice, You have knowledge of me and you have knowledge of where I come from; and I have not come of myself; but there is One who has sent me; he is true, but you have no knowledge of him.

29.    εγω οιδα αυτον οτι παρ αυτου ειμι κακεινος με απεστειλεν     But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.     I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me."     I have knowledge of him because I came from him and he sent me.

30.    εζητουν ουν αυτον πιασαι και ουδεις επεβαλεν επ αυτον την χειρα οτι ουπω εληλυθει η ωρα αυτου     Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.     They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.     Then they had a desire to take him: but no man put hands on him because his hour was still to come.

31.    εκ του οχλου δε πολλοι επιστευσαν εις αυτον και ελεγον ο χριστος οταν ελθη μη πλειονα σημεια ποιησει ων ουτος εποιησεν     And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?     But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, "When the Christ comes, he won't do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?"     And numbers of the people had belief in him, and they said, When the Christ comes will he do more signs than this man has done?

32.    ηκουσαν οι φαρισαιοι του οχλου γογγυζοντος περι αυτου ταυτα και απεστειλαν   οι αρχιερεις και οι φαρισαιοι υπηρετασ ινα πιασωσιν αυτον     The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.     The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.     This discussion of the people came to the ears of the Pharisees; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent servants to take him.

33.    ειπεν ουν ο ιησους ετι χρονον μικρον μεθ υμων ειμι και υπαγω προς τον πεμψαντα με     Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.     Then Jesus said, "I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.     Then Jesus said, I will be with you a little longer and then I go to him who sent me.

34.    ζητησετε με και ουχ ευρησετε [με] και οπου ειμι εγω υμεις ου δυνασθε ελθειν     Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.     You will seek me, and won't find me; and where I am, you can't come."     You will be looking for me, and you will not see me: and where I am you may not come.

35.    ειπον ουν οι ιουδαιοι προς εαυτους που ουτος μελλει πορευεσθαι οτι ημεις ουχ ευρησομεν αυτον μη εις την διασποραν των ελληνων μελλει πορευεσθαι και διδασκειν τους ελληνας     Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?     The Jews therefore said among themselves, "Where will this man go that we won't find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?     So the Jews said among themselves, To what place is he going where we will not see him? will he go to the Jews living among the Greeks and become the teacher of the Greeks?

36.    τις εστιν ο λογος ουτοσ ον ειπεν ζητησετε με και ουχ ευρησετε [με] και οπου ειμι εγω υμεις ου δυνασθε ελθειν     What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?     What is this word that he said, 'You will seek me, and won't find me; and where I am, you can't come'?"     What is this saying of his, You will be looking for me and will not see me, and where I am you may not come?

37.    εν δε τη εσχατη ημερα τη μεγαλη της εορτης ειστηκει ο ιησους και εκραξεν λεγων εαν τις διψα ερχεσθω προς με και πινετω     In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.     Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!     On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus got up and said in a loud voice, If any man is in need of drink let him come to me and I will give it to him.

38.    ο πιστευων εις εμε καθως ειπεν η γραφη ποταμοι εκ της κοιλιας αυτου ρευσουσιν υδατος ζωντος     He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.     He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water."     He who has faith in me, out of his body, as the Writings have said, will come rivers of living water.

39.    τουτο δε ειπεν περι του πνευματος ο εμελλον λαμβανειν οι πιστευσαντεσ εις αυτον ουπω γαρ ην πνευμα οτι ιησους ουδεπω εδοξασθη     (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)     But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn't yet glorified.     This he said of the Spirit which would be given to those who had faith in him: the Spirit had not been given then, because the glory of Jesus was still to come.

40.    εκ του οχλου ουν ακουσαντες των λογων τουτων  ελεγον ουτος εστιν αληθως ο προφητης     Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.     Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, "This is truly the prophet."     When these words came to their ears, some of the people said, This is certainly the prophet.

41.    αλλοι ελεγον ουτος εστιν ο χριστος οι δε ελεγον μη γαρ εκ της γαλιλαιας ο χριστος ερχεται     Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?     Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?     Others said, This is the Christ. But others said, Not so; will the Christ come from Galilee?

42.    ουχ η γραφη ειπεν οτι εκ του σπερματος δαυιδ και απο βηθλεεμ της κωμης οπου ην δαυιδ ερχεται ο χριστος     Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?     Hasn't the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David,{2 Samuel 7:12} and from Bethlehem,{Micah 5:2} the village where David was?"     Do not the Writings say that the Christ comes of the seed of David and from Beth-lehem, the little town where David was?

43.    σχισμα ουν εγενετο εν τω οχλω δι αυτον     So there was a division among the people because of him.     So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.     So there was a division among the people because of him.

44.    τινες δε ηθελον εξ αυτων πιασαι αυτον αλλ ουδεις επεβαλεν επ αυτον τας χειρας     And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.     Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.     And some of them had a desire to take him; but no man put hands on him.

45.    ηλθον ουν οι υπηρεται προς τους αρχιερεις και φαρισαιους και ειπον αυτοις εκεινοι δια τι ουκ ηγαγετε αυτον     Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?     The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, "Why didn't you bring him?"     Then the servants went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, Why have you not got him with you?

46.    απεκριθησαν οι υπηρεται ουδεποτε ελαλησεν ουτωσ   ανθρωπος     The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.     The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!"     The servants made answer, No man ever said things like this man.

47.    απεκριθησαν ουν αυτοις οι φαρισαιοι μη και υμεις πεπλανησθε     Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?     The Pharisees therefore answered them, "You aren't also led astray, are you?     Then the Pharisees said to them, Have you, like the others, been given false ideas?

48.    μη τις εκ των αρχοντων επιστευσεν εις αυτον η εκ των φαρισαιων     Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?     Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?     Have any of the rulers belief in him, or any one of the Pharisees?

49.    αλλα ο οχλος ουτος ο μη γινωσκων τον νομον επαρατοι εισιν     But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.     But this multitude that doesn't know the law is accursed."     But these people who have no knowledge of the law are cursed.

50.    λεγει νικοδημος προς αυτους ο ελθων προς αυτον [το] προτερον εις ων εξ αυτων     Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)     Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,     Nicodemus--he who had come to Jesus before, being himself one of them--said to them,

51.    μη ο νομος ημων κρινει τον ανθρωπον εαν μη ακουση πρωτον παρ αυτου και γνω τι ποιει     Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?     "Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?"     Is a man judged by our law before it has given him a hearing and has knowledge of what he has done?

52.    απεκριθησαν και ειπαν αυτω μη και συ εκ της γαλιλαιας ει εραυνησον και ιδε οτι εκ της γαλιλαιας προφητησ ουκ εγειρεται     They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.     They answered him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.{See Isaiah 9:1 and Matthew 4:13-16.}"     This was their answer: And do you come from Galilee? Make search and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee.

53.    [[και επορευθησαν  εκαστος εις τον οικον αυτου     And every man went unto his own house.     Everyone went to his own house,     \And every man went to his house;
