ויאמר ירבעם לאשתו קומי נא והשתנית ולא ידעו כי־אתי אשת ירבעם והלכת שלה הנה־שם אחיה הנביא הוא־דבר עלי למלך על־העם הזה׃ |
And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people. | Jeroboam said to his wife, "Please get up and disguise yourself, that you won't be recognized as the wife of Jeroboam. Go to Shiloh. ולקחת בידך עשרה לחם ונקדים ובקבק דבש ובאת אליו הוא יגיד לך מה־ יהיה לנער׃ |
And take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he shall tell thee what shall become of the child. | Take with you ten loaves, and cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him. ויהוה אמר אל־אחיהו הנה אשת ירבעם באה לדרש דבר מעמך אל־בנה כי־ חלה הוא כזה וכזה תדבר אליה ויהי כבאה והיא מתנכרה׃ |
And the LORD said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman. | Yahweh said to Ahijah, "Behold, the wife of Jeroboam comes to inquire of you concerning her son; for he is sick. Thus and thus you shall tell her; for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman." | And the Lord had said to Ahijah, The wife of Jeroboam is coming to get news from you about her son, who is ill; give her such and such an answer; for she will make herself seem to be another woman. | |||

ויהי כשמע אחיהו את־קול רגליה באה בפתח ויאמר באי אשת ירבעם למה זה את מתנכרה ואנכי שלוח אליך קשה׃ |
And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings. | It was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, "Come in, you wife of Jeroboam! Why do you pretend to be another? לכי אמרי לירבעם כה־אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל יען אשר הרימתיך מתוך העם ואתנך נגיד על עמי ישראל׃ |
Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel, | Go, tell Jeroboam, 'Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: "Because I exalted you from among the people, and made you prince over my people Israel, | Go, say to Jeroboam, These are the words of the Lord, the God of Israel: Though I took you from among the people, lifting you up to be a ruler over my people Israel, | |||

ואקרע את־הממלכה מבית דוד ואתנה לך ולא־היית כעבדי דוד אשר שמר מצותי ואשר־הלך אחרי בכל־לבבו לעשות רק הישר בעיני׃ |
And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes; | and tore the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it you; and yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes, | And took the kingdom away by force from the seed of David and gave it to you, you have not been like my servant David, who kept my orders, and was true to me with all his heart, doing only what was right in my eyes. | |||

ותרע לעשות מכל אשר־היו לפניך ותלך ותעשה־לך אלהים אחרים ומסכות להכעיסני ואתי השלכת אחרי גוך׃ |
But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back: | but have done evil above all who were before you, and have gone and made you other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and have cast me behind your back: | But you have done evil more than any before you, and have made for yourself other gods, and images of metal, moving me to wrath, and turning your back on me. | |||

לכן הנני מביא רעה אל־בית ירבעם והכרתי לירבעם משתין בקיר עצור ועזוב בישראל ובערתי אחרי בית־ירבעם כאשר יבער הגלל עד־תמו׃ |
Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone. | therefore, behold, I will bring evil on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam everyone who urinates on a wall,{or, male} he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a man sweeps away dung, until it is all gone. | So I will send evil on the line of Jeroboam, cutting off from his family every male child, those who are shut up and those who go free in Israel; the family of Jeroboam will be brushed away like a man brushing away waste till it is all gone. | |||

Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: for the LORD hath spoken it. | He who dies of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and he who dies in the field shall the birds of the sky eat: for Yahweh has spoken it."' | Those of the family of Jeroboam who come to death in the town, will become food for the dogs; and those on whom death comes in the open country, will be food for the birds of the air; for the Lord has said it. | |||

ואת קומי לכי לביתך בבאה רגליך העירה ומת הילד׃ |
Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die. | Arise therefore, and go to your house. וספדו־לו כל־ישראל וקברו אתו כי־זה לבדו יבא לירבעם אל־קבר יען נמצא־בו דבר טוב אל־יהוה אלהי ישראל בבית ירבעם׃ |
And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the LORD God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam. | All Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam. | And all Israel will put his body to rest, weeping over him, because he only of the family of Jeroboam will be put into his resting-place in the earth; for of all the family of Jeroboam, in him only has the Lord, the God of Israel, seen some good. | |||

והקים יהוה לו מלך על־ישראל אשר יכרית את־בית ירבעם זה היום ומה גם־עתה׃ |
Moreover the LORD shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now. | Moreover Yahweh will raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam. This is day! What? Even now. | And the Lord will put up a king over Israel who will send destruction on the family of Jeroboam in that day; | |||

והכה יהוה את־ישראל כאשר ינוד הקנה במים ונתש את־ישראל מעל האדמה הטובה הזאת אשר נתן לאבותיהם וזרם מעבר לנהר יען אשר עשו את־ אשריהם מכעיסים את־יהוה׃ |
For the LORD shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking the LORD to anger. | For Yahweh will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and he will root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherim, provoking Yahweh to anger. | And even now the hand of the Lord has come down on Israel, shaking it like a river-grass in the water; and, uprooting Israel from this good land, which he gave to their fathers, he will send them this way and that on the other side of the River; because they have made for themselves images, moving the Lord to wrath. | |||

And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin. | He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he has sinned, and with which he has made Israel to sin." | And he will give Israel up because of the sins which Jeroboam has done and made Israel do. | |||

ותקם אשת ירבעם ותלך ותבא תרצתה היא באה בסף־הבית והנער מת׃ |
