כי־שבעה ברעות נפשי וחיי לשאול הגיעו׃ |
I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength: | I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help, | For my soul is full of evils, and my life has come near to the underworld. | |||

נחשבתי עם־יורדי בור הייתי כגבר אין־איל׃ |

שתני בבור תחתיות במחשכים במצלות׃ |
Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah. | Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah. | You have put me in the lowest deep, even in dark places. | |||

עלי סמכה חמתך וכל־משבריך ענית סלה׃ |
Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth. | You have taken my friends from me. הרחקת מידעי ממני שתני תועבות למו כלא ולא אצא׃ |

Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah. | Do you show wonders to the dead? Do the dead rise up and praise you? Selah. | My eyes are wasting away because of my trouble: Lord, my cry has gone up to you every day, my hands are stretched out to you. | |||

הלמתים תעשה־פלא אם־רפאים יקומו יודוך סלה׃ |
Shall thy loving-kindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction? | Is your loving kindness declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in Destruction? | Will you do works of wonder for the dead? will the shades come back to give you praise? (Selah.) | |||

היספר בקבר חסדך אמונתך באבדון׃ |
Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? | Are your wonders made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? | Will the story of your mercy be given in the house of the dead? will news of your faith come to the place of destruction? | |||

היודע בחשך פלאך וצדקתך בארץ נשיה׃ |
But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee. | But to you, Yahweh, I have cried. In the morning, my prayer comes before you. | May there be knowledge of your wonders in the dark? or of your righteousness where memory is dead? | |||

ואני אליך יהוה שועתי ובבקר תפלתי תקדמך׃ |
LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me? | Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me? | But to you did I send up my cry, O Lord; in the morning my prayer came before you. | |||

למה יהוה תזנח נפשי תסתיר פניך ממני׃ |
I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted. | I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted. | Lord, why have you sent away my soul? why is your face covered from me? | |||

עני אני וגוע מנער נשאתי אמיך אפונה׃ |
Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off. | Your fierce wrath has gone over me. Your terrors have cut me off. | I have been troubled and in fear of death from the time when I was young; your wrath is hard on me, and I have no strength. | |||

עלי עברו חרוניך בעותיך צמתותני׃ |
They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together. | They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me. | The heat of your wrath has gone over me; I am broken by your cruel punishments. | |||

סבוני כמים כל־היום הקיפו עלי יחד׃ |
Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness. | You have put lover and friend far from me, and my friends into darkness. | They are round me all the day like water; they have made a circle about me. | |||

הרחקת ממני אהב ורע מידעי מחשך׃ |
