חסדי יהוה עולם אשירה לדר ודר אודיע אמונתך בפי׃ |
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens. | I indeed declare, "Love stands firm forever. You established the heavens. Your faithfulness is in them." | My song will be of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make his faith clear to all generations. | |||

כרתי ברית לבחירי נשבעתי לדוד עבדי׃ |

עד־עולם אכין זרעך ובניתי לדר־ודור כסאך סלה׃ |
And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints. | The heavens will praise your wonders, Yahweh; your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones. | I will make your seed go on for ever, your kingdom will be strong through all generations. ויודו שמים פלאך יהוה אף־אמונתך בקהל קדשים׃ |
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD? | For who in the skies can be compared to Yahweh? Who among the sons of the heavenly beings is like Yahweh, | In heaven let them give praise for your wonders, O Lord; and your unchanging faith among the saints. | |||

כי מי בשחק יערך ליהוה ידמה ליהוה בבני אלים׃ |
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him. | a very awesome God in the council of the holy ones, to be feared above all those who are around him? | For who is there in the heavens in comparison with the Lord? who is like the Lord among the sons of the gods? | |||

אל נערץ בסוד־קדשים רבה ונורא על־כל־סביביו׃ |
O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee? | Yahweh, God of Armies, who is a mighty one, like you? Yah, your faithfulness is around you. | God is greatly to be feared among the saints, and to be honoured over all those who are about him. | |||

יהוה אלהי צבאות מי־כמוך חסין יה ואמונתך סביבותיך׃ |
Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them. | You rule the pride of the sea. When its waves rise up, you calm them. | O Lord God of armies, who is strong like you, O Jah? and your unchanging faith is round about you. | |||

אתה מושל בגאות הים בשוא גליו אתה תשבחם׃ |
Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm. | You have broken Rahab in pieces, like one of the slain. You have scattered your enemies with your mighty arm. | You have rule over the sea in storm; when its waves are troubled, you make them calm. | |||

אתה דכאת כחלל רהב בזרוע עזך פזרת אויביך׃ |
The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them. | The heavens are yours. The earth also is yours; the world and its fullness. You have founded them. | Rahab was crushed by you like one wounded to death; with your strong arm you put to flight all your haters. | |||

לך שמים אף־לך ארץ תבל ומלאה אתה יסדתם׃ |
The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name. | The north and the south, you have created them. Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name. | Yours are the heavens, and the earth is yours; you have made the world, and everything which is in it. | |||

צפון וימין אתה בראתם תבור וחרמון בשמך ירננו׃ |
Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand. | You have a mighty arm. Your hand is strong, and your right hand is exalted. | You have made the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon are sounding with joy at your name. | |||

לך זרוע עם־גבורה תעז ידך תרום ימינך׃ |
Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face. | Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Loving kindness and truth go before your face. | Yours is an arm of power; strong is your hand and high your right hand. | |||

צדק ומשפט מכון כסאך חסד ואמת יקדמו פניך׃ |
Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance. | Blessed are the people who learn to acclaim you. They walk in the light of your presence, Yahweh. | The seat of your kingdom is resting on righteousness and right judging: mercy and good faith come before your face. | |||

אשרי העם יודעי תרועה יהוה באור־פניך יהלכון׃ |
In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted. | In your name they rejoice all day. In your righteousness, they are exalted. | Happy are the people who have knowledge of the holy cry: the light of your face, O Lord, will be shining on their way. | |||

בשמך יגילון כל־היום ובצדקתך ירומו׃ |
For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted. | For you are the glory of their strength. In your favor, our horn will be exalted. | In your name will they have joy all the day: in your righteousness will they be lifted up. | |||

כי־תפארת עזמו אתה וברצנך תרים קרננו׃ |
For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king. | For our shield belongs to Yahweh; our king to the Holy One of Israel. | For you are the glory of their strength; in your pleasure will our horn be lifted up. | |||

כי ליהוה מגננו ולקדוש ישראל מלכנו׃ |
Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people. | Then you spoke in vision to your saints, and said, "I have bestowed strength on the warrior. I have exalted a young man from the people. | For our breastplate is the Lord; and our king is the Holy One of Israel's. | |||

אז דברת־בחזון לחסידיך ותאמר שויתי עזר על־גבור הרימותי בחור מעם׃ |
I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: | I have found David, my servant. I have anointed him with my holy oil, | Then your voice came to your holy one in a vision, saying, I have put the crown on a strong one, lifting up one taken from among the people. | |||

מצאתי דוד עבדי בשמן קדשי משחתיו׃ |
With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him. | with whom my hand shall be established. My arm will also strengthen him. | I have made discovery of David my servant; I have put my holy oil on his head. | |||

אשר ידי תכון עמו אף־זרועי תאמצנו׃ |
The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. | No enemy will tax him. No wicked man will oppress him. | My hand will be his support; my arm will give him strength. | |||

לא־ישא אויב בו ובן־עולה לא יעננו׃ |
And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him. | I will beat down his adversaries before him, and strike those who hate him. | The deceit of those who are against him will not overcome him; he will not be troubled by the sons of evil. | |||

וכתותי מפניו צריו ומשנאיו אגוף׃ |
But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted. | But my faithfulness and my loving kindness will be with him. In my name, his horn will be exalted. | I will have those who are against him broken before his face, and his haters will be crushed under my blows. | |||

ואמונתי וחסדי עמו ובשמי תרום קרנו׃ |
I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers. | I will set his hand also on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers. | But my faith and my mercy will be with him; and in my name will his horn be lifted up. | |||

ושמתי בים ידו ובנהרות ימינו׃ |
He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. | He will call to me, 'You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation!' | I will put his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers. | |||

הוא יקראני אבי אתה אלי וצור ישועתי׃ |
Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. | I will also appoint him my firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. | He will say to me, You are my father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation. | |||

אף־אני בכור אתנהו עליון למלכי־ארץ׃ |
My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. | I will keep my loving kindness for him forevermore. My covenant will stand firm with him. | And I will make him the first of my sons, most high over the kings of the earth. | |||

לעולם אשמור־לו חסדי ובריתי נאמנת לו׃ |
His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven. | I will also make his seed endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven. | I will keep my mercy for him for ever; my agreement with him will not be changed. | |||

ושמתי לעד זרעו וכסאו כימי שמים׃ |
If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; | If his children forsake my law, and don't walk in my ordinances; | His seed will keep their place for ever; his kingdom will be eternal, like the heavens. | |||

אם־יעזבו בניו תורתי ובמשפטי לא ילכון׃ |
If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; | if they break my statutes, and don't keep my commandments; | If his children give up my law, and are not ruled by my decisions; | |||
| 32. |
אם־חקתי יחללו ומצותי לא ישמרו׃ |
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. | then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. | If my rules are broken, and my orders are not kept; | |||
| 33. |
ופקדתי בשבט פשעם ובנגעים עונם׃ |
Nevertheless my loving-kindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. | But I will not completely take my loving kindness from him, nor allow my faithfulness to fail. | Then I will send punishment on them for their sin; my rod will be the reward of their evil-doing. | |||

וחסדי לא־אפיר מעמו ולא־אשקר באמונתי׃ |
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. | I will not break my covenant, nor alter what my lips have uttered. | But I will not take away my mercy from him, and will not be false to my faith. | |||

לא־אחלל בריתי ומוצא שפתי לא אשנה׃ |
Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. | Once have I sworn by my holiness, I will not lie to David. | I will be true to my agreement; the things which have gone out of my lips will not be changed. | |||

אחת נשבעתי בקדשי אם־לדוד אכזב׃ |
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. | His seed will endure forever, his throne like the sun before me. | I have made an oath once by my holy name, that I will not be false to David. | |||
| 37. |
זרעו לעולם יהיה וכסאו כשמש נגדי׃ |
It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah. | It will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky." Selah. | His seed will not come to an end for ever; the seat of his kingdom will be like the sun before me. | |||

כירח יכון עולם ועד בשחק נאמן סלה׃ |
But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed. | But you have rejected and spurned. You have been angry with your anointed. | It will be fixed for ever like the moon; and the witness in heaven is true. (Selah.) | |||

ואתה זנחת ותמאס התעברת עם־משיחך׃ |
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground. | You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have defiled his crown in the dust. | But you have put him away in disgust; you have been angry with the king of your selection. | |||

נארתה ברית עבדך חללת לארץ נזרו׃ |
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin. | You have broken down all his hedges. You have brought his strongholds to ruin. | You have made your agreement with your servant of no effect: you have had no respect for his crown, it has come down even to the earth. | |||

פרצת כל־גדרתיו שמת מבצריו מחתה׃ |
All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours. | All who pass by the way rob him. He has become a reproach to his neighbors. | All his walls are broken down; you have given his strong towers to destruction. | |||
| 42. |
שסהו כל־עברי דרך היה חרפה לשכניו׃ |
Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice. | You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries. You have made all of his enemies rejoice. | All those who come by take away his goods; he is laughed at by his neighbours. | |||

הרימות ימין צריו השמחת כל־אויביו׃ |
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle. | Yes, you turn back the edge of his sword, and haven't supported him in battle. | You have given power to the right hand of his haters; you have made glad all those who are against him. | |||

אף־תשיב צור חרבו ולא הקימתו במלחמה׃ |
Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground. | You have ended his splendor, and thrown his throne down to the ground. | His sword is turned back; you have not been his support in the fight. | |||
| 45. |
השבת מטהרו וכסאו לארץ מגרתה׃ |
The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah. | You have shortened the days of his youth. You have covered him with shame. Selah. | You have put an end to his glory: the seat of his kingdom has been levelled to the earth. | |||

הקצרת ימי עלומיו העטית עליו בושה סלה׃ |
How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire? | How long, Yahweh? Will you hide yourself forever? Will your wrath burn like fire? | You have made him old before his time; he is covered with shame. (Selah.) | |||

עד־מה יהוה תסתר לנצח תבער כמו־אש חמתך׃ |
Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain? | Remember how short my time is! For what vanity have you created all the children of men! | How long, O Lord, will you Keep yourself for ever from our eyes? how long will your wrath be burning like fire? | |||

זכר־אני מה־חלד על־מה־שוא בראת כל־בני־אדם׃ |
What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah. | What man is he who shall live and not see death, who shall deliver his soul from the power of Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.}? Selah. | See how short my time is; why have you made all men for no purpose? | |||

מי גבר יחיה ולא יראה־מות ימלט נפשו מיד־שאול סלה׃ |
Lord, where are thy former loving-kindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth? | Lord, where are your former loving kindnesses, which you swore to David in your faithfulness? | What man now living will not see death? will he be able to keep back his soul from the underworld? (Selah.) | |||

איה חסדיך הראשנים אדני נשבעת לדוד באמונתך׃ |
Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people; | Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the mighty peoples, | Lord, where are your earlier mercies? where is the oath which you made to David in unchanging faith? | |||

זכר אדני חרפת עבדיך שאתי בחיקי כל־רבים עמים׃ |
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed. | With which your enemies have mocked, Yahweh, with which they have mocked the footsteps of your anointed one. | Keep in mind, O Lord, the shame of your servants, and how the bitter words of all the people have come into my heart; | |||

אשר חרפו אויביך יהוה אשר חרפו עקבות משיחך׃ |
Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen. | Blessed be Yahweh forevermore. Amen, and Amen. {} | The bitter words of your haters, O Lord, shaming the footsteps of your king. | |||
