משא מצרים הנה יהוה רכב על־עב קל ובא מצרים ונעו אלילי מצרים מפניו ולבב מצרים ימס בקרבו׃ |
The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it. | The burden of Egypt: "Behold, Yahweh rides on a swift cloud, and comes to Egypt. The idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence; and the heart of Egypt will melt in its midst. | The word about Egypt. וסכסכתי מצרים במצרים ונלחמו איש־באחיו ואיש ברעהו עיר בעיר ממלכה בממלכה׃ |

ונבקה רוח־מצרים בקרבו ועצתו אבלע ודרשו אל־האלילים ואל־האטים ואל־האבות ואל־הידענים׃ |
And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards. | The spirit of Egypt will fail in its midst. I will destroy its counsel. They will seek the idols, the charmers, those who have familiar spirits, and the wizards. | And the spirit of Egypt will be troubled in her, and I will make her decisions without effect: and they will be turning to the false gods, and to those who make hollow sounds, and to those who have control of spirits, and to those who are wise in secret arts. | |||

וסכרתי את־מצרים ביד אדנים קשה ומלך עז ימשל־בם נאם האדון יהוה צבאות׃ |
And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts. | I will give over the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel lord. A fierce king will rule over them," says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies. | And I will give the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel lord; and a hard king will be their ruler, says the Lord, the Lord of armies. | |||

ונשתו־מים מהים ונהר יחרב ויבש׃ |
And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up. | The waters will fail from the sea, and the river will be wasted and become dry. | And the waters of the sea will be cut off, and the river will become dry and waste: | |||

והאזניחו נהרות דללו וחרבו יארי מצור קנה וסוף קמלו׃ |
And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither. | The rivers will become foul. The streams of Egypt will be diminished and dried up. The reeds and flags will wither away. | And the rivers will have an evil smell; the stream of Egypt will become small and dry: all the water-plants will come to nothing. | |||

ערות על־יאור על־פי יאור וכל מזרע יאור ייבש נדף ואיננו׃ |
The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more. | The meadows by the Nile, by the brink of the Nile, and all the sown fields of the Nile, will become dry, be driven away, and be no more. | The grass-lands by the Nile, and everything planted by the Nile, will become dry, or taken away by the wind, and will come to an end. | |||

ואנו הדיגים ואבלו כל־משליכי ביאור חכה ופרשי מכמרת על־פני־מים אמללו׃ |
The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall languish. | The fishermen will lament, and all those who fish in the Nile will mourn, and those who spread nets on the waters will languish. | The fishermen will be sad, and all those who put fishing-lines into the Nile will be full of grief, and those whose nets are stretched out on the waters will have sorrow in their hearts. | |||

ובשו עבדי פשתים שריקות וארגים חורי׃ |
Moreover they that work in fine flax, and they that weave networks, shall be confounded. | Moreover those who work in combed flax, and those who weave white cloth, will be confounded. | And all the workers in linen thread, and those who make cotton cloth, will be put to shame. | |||

והיו שתתיה מדכאים כל־עשי שכר אגמי־נפש׃ |
And they shall be broken in the purposes thereof, all that make sluices and ponds for fish. | The pillars will be broken in pieces. All those who work for hire will be grieved in soul. | And the makers of twisted thread will be crushed, and those who ... will be sad in heart. | |||

אך־אולים שרי צען חכמי יעצי פרעה עצה נבערה איך תאמרו אל־פרעה בן־חכמים אני בן־מלכי־קדם׃ |
Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Pharaoh is become brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings? | The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish. The counsel of the wisest counselors of Pharaoh has become stupid. How do you say to Pharaoh, "I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?" | The chiefs of Zoan are completely foolish; the wisest guides of Pharaoh have become like beasts: how do you say to Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the offspring of early kings? | |||

אים אפוא חכמיך ויגידו נא לך וידעו מה־יעץ יהוה צבאות על־ מצרים׃ |
Where are they? where are thy wise men? and let them tell thee now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt. | Where then are your wise men? Let them tell you now; and let them know what Yahweh of Armies has purposed concerning Egypt. | Where, then, are your wise men? let them make clear to you, let them give you knowledge of the purpose of the Lord of armies for Egypt. | |||

נואלו שרי צען נשאו שרי נף התעו את־מצרים פנת שבטיה׃ |
The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof. | The princes of Zoan have become fools. The princes of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go astray, who are the cornerstone of her tribes. | The chiefs of Zoan have become foolish, the chiefs of Noph are tricked, the heads of her tribes are the cause of Egypt's wandering out of the way. | |||

יהוה מסך בקרבה רוח עועים והתעו את־מצרים בכל־מעשהו כהתעות שכור בקיאו׃ |
The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit. | Yahweh has mixed a spirit of perverseness in the midst of her; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in all of its works, like a drunken man staggers in his vomit. | The Lord has sent among them a spirit of error: and by them Egypt is turned out of the right way in all her doings, as a man overcome by wine is uncertain in his steps. | |||

ולא־יהיה למצרים מעשה אשר יעשה ראש וזנב כפה ואגמון׃ |
Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or rush, may do. | Neither shall there be for Egypt any work, which head or tail, palm branch or rush, may do. | And in Egypt there will be no work for any man, head or tail, high or low, to do. | |||

ביום ההוא יהיה מצרים כנשים וחרד ופחד מפני תנופת יד־יהוה צבאות אשר־הוא מניף עליו׃ |
In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it. | In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will tremble and fear because of the shaking of the hand of Yahweh of Armies, which he shakes over them. | In that day the Egyptians will be like women: and the land will be shaking with fear because of the waving of the Lord's hand stretched out over it. | |||

והיתה אדמת יהודה למצרים לחגא כל אשר יזכיר אתה אליו יפחד מפני עצת יהוה צבאות אשר־הוא יועץ עליו׃ |
And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against it. | The land of Judah will become a terror to Egypt. Everyone to whom mention is made of it will be afraid, because of the plans of Yahweh of Armies, which he determines against it. | And the land of Judah will become a cause of great fear to Egypt; whenever its name comes to mind, Egypt will be in fear before the Lord of armies because of his purpose against it. | |||

ביום ההוא יהיו חמש ערים בארץ מצרים מדברות שפת כנען ונשבעות ליהוה צבאות עיר ההרס יאמר לאחת׃ |
In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction. | In that day, there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan, and swear to Yahweh of Armies. One will be called "The city of destruction." | In that day there will be five towns in the land of Egypt using the language of Canaan, and making oaths to the Lord of armies; and one of them will be named, The Town of the Sun. | |||

ביום ההוא יהיה מזבח ליהוה בתוך ארץ מצרים ומצבה אצל־גבולה ליהוה׃ |
In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to the LORD. | In that day, there will be an altar to Yahweh in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to Yahweh at its border. | In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the middle of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at the edge of the land. | |||

והיה לאות ולעד ליהוה צבאות בארץ מצרים כי־יצעקו אל־יהוה מפני לחצים וישלח להם מושיע ורב והצילם׃ |
And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour, and a great one, and he shall deliver them. | It will be for a sign and for a witness to Yahweh of Armies in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to Yahweh because of oppressors, and he will send them a savior and a defender, and he will deliver them. | And it will be a sign and a witness to the Lord of armies in the land of Egypt: when they are crying out to the Lord because of their cruel masters, then he will send them a saviour and a strong one to make them free. | |||

ונודע יהוה למצרים וידעו מצרים את־יהוה ביום ההוא ועבדו זבח ומנחה ונדרו־נדר ליהוה ושלמו׃ |
And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform it. | Yahweh will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know Yahweh in that day. Yes, they will worship with sacrifice and offering, and will vow a vow to Yahweh, and will perform it. | And the Lord will give the knowledge of himself to Egypt, and the Egyptians will give honour to the Lord in that day; they will give him worship with offerings and meal offerings, and will take an oath to the Lord and give effect to it. | |||

ונגף יהוה את־מצרים נגף ורפוא ושבו עד־יהוה ונעתר להם ורפאם׃ |
And the LORD shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal it: and they shall return even to the LORD, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall heal them. | Yahweh will strike Egypt, striking and healing. They will return to Yahweh, and he will be entreated by them, and will heal them. | And the Lord will send punishment on Egypt, and will make them well again; and when they come back to the Lord he will give ear to their prayer and take away their disease. | |||

ביום ההוא תהיה מסלה ממצרים אשורה ובא־אשור במצרים ומצרים באשור ועבדו מצרים את־אשור׃ |
In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians. | In that day there will be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria; and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians. | In that day there will be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt will come into Assyria; and the Egyptians will give worship to the Lord together with the Assyrians. | |||

ביום ההוא יהיה ישראל שלישיה למצרים ולאשור ברכה בקרב הארץ׃ |
In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land: | In that day, Israel will be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth; | In that day Israel will be the third together with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the earth: | |||

אשר ברכו יהוה צבאות לאמר ברוך עמי מצרים ומעשה ידי אשור ונחלתי ישראל׃ |
Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance. | because Yahweh of Armies has blessed them, saying, "Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance." | Because of the blessing of the Lord of armies which he has given them, saying, A blessing on Egypt my people, and on Assyria the work of my hands, and on Israel my heritage. | |||
