קרבו גוים לשמע ולאמים הקשיבו תשמע הארץ ומלאה תבל וכל־צאצאיה׃ |
Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it. | Come near, you nations, to hear! Listen, you peoples. כי קצף ליהוה על־כל־הגוים וחמה על־כל־צבאם החרימם נתנם לטבח׃ |
For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. | For Yahweh is enraged against all the nations, and angry with all their armies. He has utterly destroyed them. He has given them over for slaughter. | For the Lord is angry with all the nations, and his wrath is burning against all their armies: he has put them to the curse, he has given them to destruction. | |||

וחלליהם ישלכו ופגריהם יעלה באשם ונמסו הרים מדמם׃ |
Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. | Their slain will also be cast out, and the stench of their dead bodies will come up; and the mountains will melt in their blood. | Their dead bodies will be thick on the face of the earth, and their smell will come up, and the mountains will be flowing with their blood, and all the hills will come to nothing. | |||

ונמקו כל־צבא השמים ונגלו כספר השמים וכל־צבאם יבול כנבל עלה מגפן וכנבלת מתאנה׃ |
And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. | All of the army of the sky will be dissolved. The sky will be rolled up like a scroll, and all its armies will fade away, as a leaf fades from off a vine or a fig tree. | And the heavens will be rolled together like the roll of a book: and all their army will be gone, like a dead leaf from the vine, or a dry fruit from the fig-tree. | |||

כי־רותה בשמים חרבי הנה על־אדום תרד ועל־עם חרמי למשפט׃ |
For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. | For my sword has drunk its fill in the sky. Behold, it will come down on Edom, and on the people of my curse, for judgment. | For my sword in heaven is full of wrath: see, it is coming down on Edom, in punishment on the people of my curse. | |||

חרב ליהוה מלאה דם הדשנה מחלב מדם כרים ועתודים מחלב כליות אילים כי זבח ליהוה בבצרה וטבח גדול בארץ אדום׃ |
The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea. | Yahweh's sword is filled with blood. וירדו ראמים עמם ופרים עם־אבירים ורותה ארצם מדם ועפרם מחלב ידשן׃ |
And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. | The wild oxen will come down with them, and the young bulls with the mighty bulls; and their land will be drunken with blood, and their dust made greasy with fat. | And the strong oxen will go down to death together with the smaller cattle. | |||

כי יום נקם ליהוה שנת שלומים לריב ציון׃ |
For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. | For Yahweh has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. | For it is the day of the Lord's punishment, when he gives payment for the wrongs done to Zion. | |||

ונהפכו נחליה לזפת ועפרה לגפרית והיתה ארצה לזפת בערה׃ |
And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. | Its streams will be turned into pitch, its dust into sulfur, And its land will become burning pitch. | And its streams will be turned into boiling oil, and its dust into burning stone, and all the land will be on fire. | |||

לילה ויומם לא תכבה לעולם יעלה עשנה מדור לדור תחרב לנצח נצחים אין עבר בה׃ |
It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever. | It won't be quenched night nor day. Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever. | It will not be put out day or night; its smoke will go up for ever: it will be waste from generation to generation; no one will go through it for ever. | |||

וירשוה קאת וקפוד וינשוף וערב ישכנו־בה ונטה עליה קו־תהו ואבני־ בהו׃ |
But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness. | But the pelican and the porcupine will possess it. The owl and the raven will dwell in it. He will stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plumb line of emptiness. | But the birds of the waste land will have their place there; it will be a heritage for the bittern and the raven: and it will be measured out with line and weight as a waste land. | |||

חריה ואין־שם מלוכה יקראו וכל־שריה יהיו אפס׃ |
They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing. | They shall call its nobles to the kingdom, but none shall be there; and all its princes shall be nothing. | The jackals will be there, and her great ones will be gone; they will say, There is no longer a kingdom there, and all her chiefs will have come to an end. | |||

ועלתה ארמנתיה סירים קמוש וחוח במבצריה והיתה נוה תנים חציר לבנות יענה׃ |
And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls. | Thorns will come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in its fortresses; and it will be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches. | And thorns will come up in her fair houses, and waste plants in her strong towers: and foxes will make their holes there, and it will be a meeting-place for ostriches. | |||

ופגשו ציים את־איים ושעיר על־רעהו יקרא אך־שם הרגיעה לילית ומצאה לה מנוח׃ |
The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest. | The wild animals of the desert will meet with the wolves, and the wild goat will cry to his fellow. Yes, the night creature{literally, lilith, which could also be a night demon or night monster} shall settle there, and shall find herself a place of rest. | And the beasts of the waste places will come together with the jackals, and the evil spirits will be crying to one another, even the night-spirit will come and make her resting-place there. | |||

שמה קננה קפוז ותמלט ובקעה ודגרה בצלה אך־שם נקבצו דיות אשה רעותה׃ |
There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate. | The arrow snake will make her nest there, and lay, hatch, and gather under her shade. Yes, the kites will be gathered there, every one with her mate. | The arrowsnake will make her hole and put her eggs there, and get her young together under her shade: there the hawks will come together by twos. | |||

דרשו מעל־ספר יהוה וקראו אחת מהנה לא נעדרה אשה רעותה לא פקדו כי־פי הוא צוה ורוחו הוא קבצן׃ |
Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them. | Search in the book of Yahweh, and read: not one of these will be missing. none will lack her mate. For my mouth has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them. | See what is recorded in the book of the Lord: all these will be there, not one without the other: the mouth of the Lord has given the order, and his spirit has made them come together. | |||

והוא־הפיל להן גורל וידו חלקתה להם בקו עד־עולם יירשוה לדור ודור ישכנו־בה׃ |
And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein. | He has cast the lot for them, and his hand has divided it to them with a measuring line. They shall possess it forever. From generation to generation they will dwell in it. | And he has given them their heritage, and by his hand it has been measured out to them: it will be theirs for ever, their resting-place from generation to generation. | |||
