1.    ויאמר  יהוה  אלי 
קח־לך  גליון  גדול
וכתב  עליו  בחרט
אנוש  למהר  שלל  חש
בז׃
    Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning Mahershalalhashbaz.     Yahweh said to me, "Take a large tablet, and write on it with a man's pen, 'For Maher Shalal Hash Baz;{"Maher Shalal Hash Baz" means "quick to the plunder, swift to the spoil."}'     And the Lord said to me, Take a great writing-board, and on it put down in common letters, Maher-shalal-hash-baz;
 
2.    ואעידה  לי  עדים 
נאמנים  את  אוריה
הכהן  ואת־זכריהו
בן  יברכיהו׃
    And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.     and I will take for myself faithful witnesses to testify: Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah."     And take true witnesses to the writing, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah, the son of Jeberechiah.
 
3.    ואקרב  אל־הנביאה 
ותהר  ותלד  בן
ויאמר  יהוה  אלי
קרא  שמו  מהר  שלל
חש  בז׃
    And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Mahershalalhashbaz.     I went to the prophetess, and she conceived, and bore a son. Then said Yahweh to me, "Call his name 'Maher Shalal Hash Baz.'     And I went in to my wife, and she became with child, and gave birth to a son. Then the Lord said to me, Give him the name Maher-shalal-hash-baz,
 
4.    כי  בטרם  ידע  הנער 
קרא  אבי  ואמי  ישא
את־חיל  דמשק  ואת
שלל  שמרון  לפני
מלך  אשור׃
    For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.     For before the child knows how to say, 'My father,' and, 'My mother,' the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be carried away by the king of Assyria."     For before the child is able to say, Father, or, Mother, the wealth of Damascus and the goods of Samaria will be taken away by the king of Assyria.
 
5.    ויסף  יהוה  דבר  אלי 
עוד  לאמר׃
    The LORD spake also unto me again, saying,     Yahweh spoke to me yet again, saying,     And the Lord said again to me,
 
6.    יען  כי  מאס  העם 
הזה  את  מי  השלח
ההלכים  לאט  ומשוש
את־רצין  ובן־
רמליהו׃
    Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;     "Because this people have refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;     Because this people will have nothing to do with the softly-flowing waters of Shiloah, and have fear of Rezin and Remaliah's son;
 
7.    ולכן  הנה  אדני 
מעלה  עליהם  את־מי
הנהר  העצומים
והרבים  את־מלך
אשור  ואת־כל־כבודו
ועלה  על־כל־אפיקיו
והלך
על־כל־גדותיו׃
    Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:     now therefore, behold, the Lord brings upon them the mighty flood waters of the River: the king of Assyria and all his glory. It will come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks.     For this cause the Lord is sending on them the waters of the River, deep and strong, even the king of Assyria and all his glory: and it will come up through all its streams, overflowing all its edges:
 
8.    וחלף  ביהודה  שטף 
ועבר  עד־צואר  יגיע
והיה  מטות  כנפיו
מלא  רחב־  ארצך
עמנו  אל׃
    And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.     It will sweep onward into Judah. It will overflow and pass through; it will reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, Immanuel.     And it will come on into Judah; rushing on and overflowing, till the waters are up to the neck; * and his outstretched wings will be covering the land from side to side: for God is with us.
 
9.    רעו  עמים  וחתו 
והאזינו  כל
מרחקי־ארץ  התאזרו
וחתו  התאזרו  וחתו׃
    Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.     Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Listen, all you from far countries: dress for battle, and be shattered! Dress for battle, and be shattered!     Have knowledge, O peoples, and be in fear; give ear, all you far-off parts of the earth:
 
10.    עצו  עצה  ותפר  דברו 
דבר  ולא  יקום  כי
עמנו  אל׃
    Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.     Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand: for God is with us."     Let your designs be formed, and they will come to nothing; give your orders, and they will not be effected: for God is with us.
 
11.    כי  כה  אמר  יהוה 
אלי  כחזקת  היד
ויסרני  מלכת  בדרך
העם־הזה  לאמר׃
    For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,     For Yahweh spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,     For the Lord, controlling me with a strong hand, gave me orders not to go in the way of this people, saying,
 
12.    לא־תאמרון  קשר  לכל 
אשר־יאמר  העם  הזה
קשר  ואת־מוראו
לא־תיראו  ולא
תעריצו׃
    Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.     "Don't say, 'A conspiracy!' concerning all about which this people say, 'A conspiracy!' neither fear their threats, nor be terrorized.     Do not say, It is holy, about everything of which this people says, It is holy; and do not be in fear of what they go in fear of.
 
13.    את־יהוה  צבאות  אתו 
תקדישו  והוא
מוראכם  והוא
מערצכם׃
    Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.     Yahweh of Armies is who you must respect as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread.     But let the Lord of armies be holy to you, and go in fear of him, giving honour to him.
 
14.    והיה  למקדש  ולאבן 
נגף  ולצור  מכשול
לשני  בתי  ישראל
לפח  ולמוקש  ליושב
ירושלם׃
    And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.     He will be a sanctuary, but for both houses of Israel, he will be a trap and a snare for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.     And he will be for a holy place: but for a stone of falling and a rock of trouble to the two houses of Israel, and to the men of Jerusalem, for a net in which they may be taken.
 
15.    וכשלו  בם  רבים 
ונפלו  ונשברו
ונוקשו  ונלכדו׃
    And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.     Many will stumble over it, fall, be broken, be snared, and be captured."     And numbers of them, falling on the stone, will be broken, and will be taken in the net.
 
16.    צור  תעודה  חתום 
תורה  בלמדי׃
    Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.     Wrap up the testimony. Seal the law among my disciples.     Let my teaching be kept secret: and my words be given to my disciples only.
 
17.    וחכיתי  ליהוה 
המסתיר  פניו  מבית
יעקב  וקויתי־לו׃
    And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.     I will wait for Yahweh, who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.     And I will be waiting for the Lord, whose face is veiled from the house of Jacob, and I will be looking for him.
 
18.    הנה  אנכי  והילדים 
אשר  נתן־לי  יהוה
לאתות  ולמופתים
בישראל  מעם  יהוה
צבאות  השכן  בהר
ציון׃
    Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.     Behold, I and the children whom Yahweh has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Yahweh of Armies, who dwells in Mount Zion.     See, I and the children whom the Lord has given me, are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of armies, whose resting-place is in Mount Zion.
 
19.    וכי־יאמרו  אליכם 
דרשו  אל־האבות
ואל־הידענים
המצפצפים  והמהגים
הלוא־עם  אל־אלהיו
ידרש  בעד  החיים
אל־המתים׃
    And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?     When they tell you, "Consult with those who have familiar spirits and with the wizards, who chirp and who mutter:" shouldn't a people consult with their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?     And when they say to you, Make request for us to those who have control of spirits, and to those wise in secret arts, who make hollow bird-like sounds; is it not right for a people to make request to their gods, to make request for the living to the dead?
 
20.    לתורה  ולתעודה 
אם־לא  יאמרו  כדבר
הזה  אשר  אין־לו
שחר׃
    To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.     Turn to the law and to the testimony! If they don't speak according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.     Then say to them, Put your faith in the teaching and the witness. ... If they do not say such things. ... For him there is no dawn. ...
 
21.    ועבר  בה  נקשה  ורעב 
והיה  כי־ירעב
והתקצף  וקלל  במלכו
ובאלהיו  ופנה
למעלה׃
    And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.     They will pass through it, sore distressed and hungry; and it will happen that when they are hungry, they will worry, and curse by their king and by their God. They will turn their faces upward,     And he will go through the land in bitter trouble and in need of food; and when he is unable to get food, he will become angry, cursing his king and his God, and his eyes will be turned to heaven on high;
 
22.    ואל־ארץ  יביט  והנה 
צרה  וחשכה  מעוף
צוקה  ואפלה  מנדח׃
    And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.     and look to the earth, and see distress, darkness, and the gloom of anguish. They will be driven into thick darkness.     And he will be looking down on the earth, and there will be trouble and dark clouds, black night where there is no seeing.
