Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. | But there shall be no more gloom for her who was in anguish. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. לבנים נפלו וגזית נבנה שקמים גדעו וארזים נחליף׃ |
The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars. | "The bricks have fallen, but we will build with cut stone. וישגב יהוה את־צרי רצין עליו ואת־איביו יסכסך׃ |

ויכרת יהוה מישראל ראש וזנב כפה ואגמון יום אחד׃ |
Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day. | Therefore Yahweh will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed, in one day. | For this cause the Lord took away from Israel head and tail, high and low, in one day. | |||

זקן ונשוא־פנים הוא הראש ונביא מורה־שקר הוא הזנב׃ |
The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. | The elder and the honorable man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail. | The man who is honoured and responsible is the head, and the prophet who gives false teaching is the tail. | |||

ויהיו מאשרי העם־הזה מתעים ומאשריו מבלעים׃ |
For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed. | For those who lead this people lead them astray; and those who are led by them are destroyed. | For the guides of this people are the cause of their wandering from the right way, and those who are guided by them come to destruction. | |||

על־כן על־בחוריו לא־ישמח אדני ואת־יתמיו ואת־אלמנתיו לא ירחם כי כלו חנף ומרע וכל־פה דבר נבלה בכל־זאת לא־שב אפו ועוד ידו נטויה׃ |
Therefore the LORD shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. | Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is profane and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke. | For wickedness burns like a fire. It devours the briers and thorns; yes, it kindles in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke. | For evil was burning like a fire; the blackberries and thorns were burned up; the thick woods took fire, rolling up in dark clouds of smoke. | |||

בעברת יהוה צבאות נעתם ארץ ויהי העם כמאכלת אש איש אל־אחיו לא יחמלו׃ |
Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother. | Through the wrath of Yahweh of Armies, the land is burnt up; and the people are the fuel for the fire. No one spares his brother. | The land was dark with the wrath of the Lord of armies: the people were like those who take men's flesh for food. | |||

ויגזר על־ימין ורעב ויאכל על־שמאול ולא שבעו איש בשר־זרעו יאכלו׃ |
And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm: | One will devour on the right hand, and be hungry; and he will eat on the left hand, and they will not be satisfied. Everyone will eat the flesh of his own arm: | On the right a man was cutting off bits and was still in need; on the left a man took a meal but had not enough; no man had pity on his brother; every man was making a meal of the flesh of his neighbour. | |||

Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah.
