וזאת המצוה החקים והמשפטים אשר צוה יהוה אלהיכם ללמד אתכם לעשות בארץ אשר אתם עברים שמה לרשתה׃ |
Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: | Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh your God commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it; | Now these are the orders and the laws and the decisions which the Lord your God gave me for your teaching, so that you might do them in the land of your heritage to which you are going: | |||

למען תירא את־יהוה אלהיך לשמר את־כל־חקתיו ומצותיו אשר אנכי מצוך אתה ובנך ובן־בנך כל ימי חייך ולמען יארכן ימיך׃ |
That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. | that you might fear Yahweh your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, you, and your son, and your son's son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged. | So that living in the fear of the Lord your God, you may keep all his laws and his orders, which I give you: you and your son and your son's son, all the days of your life; and so that your life may be long. | |||

ושמעת ישראל ושמרת לעשות אשר ייטב לך ואשר תרבון מאד כאשר דבר יהוה אלהי אבתיך לך ארץ זבת חלב ודבש׃ |
Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. | Hear therefore, Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with you, and that you may increase mightily, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has promised to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. | So give ear, O Israel, and take care to do this; so that it may be well for you, and you may be greatly increased, as the Lord the God of your fathers has given you his word, in a land flowing with milk and honey. | |||

שמע ישראל יהוה אלהינו יהוה אחד׃ |
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: | Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God; Yahweh is one: | Give ear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord: | |||

ואהבת את יהוה אלהיך בכל־לבבך ובכל־נפשך ובכל־מאדך׃ |
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. | and you shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. | And the Lord your God is to be loved with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. | |||

והיו הדברים האלה אשר אנכי מצוך היום על־לבבך׃ |
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: | These words, which I command you this day, shall be on your heart; | Keep these words, which I say to you this day, deep in your hearts; | |||

ושננתם לבניך ודברת בם בשבתך בביתך ובלכתך בדרך ובשכבך ובקומך׃ |
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. | and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. | Teaching them to your children with all care, talking of them when you are at rest in your house or walking by the way, when you go to sleep and when you get up. | |||

וקשרתם לאות על־ידך והיו לטטפת בין עיניך׃ |
And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. | You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for symbols between your eyes. | Let them be fixed as a sign on your hand, and marked on your brow; | |||

וכתבתם על־מזזות ביתך ובשעריך׃ |
And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. | You shall write them on the door posts of your house, and on your gates. | Have them lettered on the pillars of your houses and over the doors of your towns. | |||

והיה כי יביאך יהוה אלהיך אל־הארץ אשר נשבע לאבתיך לאברהם ליצחק וליעקב לתת לך ערים גדלת וטבת אשר לא־בנית׃ |
And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, | It shall be, when Yahweh your God shall bring you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and goodly cities, which you didn't build, | And when the Lord your God has taken you into the land which he gave his oath to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, that he would give you; with great and fair towns which were not of your building; | |||

ובתים מלאים כל־טוב אשר לא־מלאת וברת חצובים אשר לא־חצבת כרמים וזיתים אשר לא־נטעת ואכלת ושבעת׃ |
And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; | and houses full of all good things, which you didn't fill, and cisterns dug out, which you didn't dig, vineyards and olive trees, which you didn't plant, and you shall eat and be full; | And houses full of good things not stored up by you, and places for storing water which you did not make, and vine-gardens and olive-trees not of your planting; and you have taken food and are full; | |||

השמר לך פן־תשכח את־יהוה אשר הוציאך מארץ מצרים מבית עבדים׃ |
Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. | then beware lest you forget Yahweh, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. | Then take care that you keep your hearts true to the Lord, who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house. | |||

את־יהוה אלהיך תירא ואתו תעבד ובשמו תשבע׃ |
Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. | You shall fear Yahweh your God; and you shall serve him, and shall swear by his name. | Let the fear of the Lord your God be in your hearts, and be his servants, taking your oaths by his name. | |||

לא תלכון אחרי אלהים אחרים מאלהי העמים אשר סביבותיכם׃ |
Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you; | You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are around you; | Do not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples round about you; | |||

כי אל קנא יהוה אלהיך בקרבך פן־יחרה אף־יהוה אלהיך בך והשמידך מעל פני האדמה׃ |
(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. | for Yahweh your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; lest the anger of Yahweh your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth. | For the Lord your God who is with you is a God who will not let his honour be given to another; or the wrath of the Lord will be burning against you, causing your destruction from the face of the earth. | |||

לא תנסו את־יהוה אלהיכם כאשר נסיתם במסה׃ |
Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. | You shall not tempt Yahweh your God, as you tempted him in Massah. | Do not put the Lord your God to the test as you did in Massah. | |||

שמור תשמרון את־מצות יהוה אלהיכם ועדתיו וחקיו אשר צוך׃ |
Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee. | You shall diligently keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has commanded you. | Keep with care the orders of the Lord your God, and his rules and his laws which he has given you; | |||

ועשית הישר והטוב בעיני יהוה למען ייטב לך ובאת וירשת את־הארץ הטבה אשר־נשבע יהוה לאבתיך׃ |
And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, | You shall do that which is right and good in the sight of Yahweh; that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, | And do what is upright and good in the eyes of the Lord your God, so that it may be well for you and you may go in and take for your heritage that good land from which the Lord undertook by an oath to your fathers, | |||

להדף את־כל־איביך מפניך כאשר דבר יהוה׃ |
To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken. | to thrust out all your enemies from before you, as Yahweh has spoken. | To send out from before you all those who are against you. | |||
| 20. |
כי־ישאלך בנך מחר לאמר מה העדת והחקים והמשפטים אשר צוה יהוה אלהינו אתכם׃ |
And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you? | When your son asks you in time to come, saying, "What do the testimonies, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh our God has commanded you mean?" | And when your son says to you in time to come, What is the reason for these rules and laws and decisions which the Lord our God has given you? | |||

ואמרת לבנך עבדים היינו לפרעה במצרים ויציאנו יהוה ממצרים ביד חזקה׃ |
Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand: | then you shall tell your son, "We were Pharaoh's bondservants in Egypt: and Yahweh brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand; | Then you will say to your son, We were servants under Pharaoh's yoke in Egypt; and the Lord took us out of Egypt with a strong hand: | |||

ויתן יהוה אותת ומפתים גדלים ורעים במצרים בפרעה ובכל־ביתו לעינינו׃ |
And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes: | and Yahweh showed great and awesome signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes; | And the Lord did great signs and wonders against Egypt, and against Pharaoh and all his house, before our eyes: | |||

ואותנו הוציא משם למען הביא אתנו לתת לנו את־הארץ אשר נשבע לאבתינו׃ |
And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers. | and he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore to our fathers. | And he took us out from that place, guiding us here to give us this land, as he said in his oath to our fathers. | |||

ויצונו יהוה לעשות את־כל־החקים האלה ליראה את־יהוה אלהינו לטוב לנו כל־הימים לחיתנו כהיום הזה׃ |
And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. | Yahweh commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Yahweh our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as at this day. | And the Lord gave us orders to keep all these laws, in the fear of the Lord our God, so that it might be well for us for ever, and that he might keep us from death, as he has done to this day. | |||

וצדקה תהיה־לנו כי־נשמר לעשות את־כל־המצוה הזאת לפני יהוה אלהינו כאשר צונו׃ |
And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us. | It shall be righteousness to us, if we observe to do all this commandment before Yahweh our God, as he has commanded us." | And it will be our righteousness if we take care to keep all this order before the Lord our God as he has given it to us. | |||
