כי יביאך יהוה אלהיך אל־הארץ אשר־אתה בא־שמה לרשתה ונשל גוים־ רבים מפניך החתי והגרגשי והאמרי והכנעני והפרזי והחוי והיבוסי שבעה גוים רבים ועצומים ממך׃ |
When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; | When Yahweh your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before you, the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than you; | When the Lord your God takes you into the land where you are going, which is to be your heritage, and has sent out the nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you; | |||

ונתנם יהוה אלהיך לפניך והכיתם החרם תחרים אתם לא־תכרת להם ברית ולא תחנם׃ |
And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them: | and when Yahweh your God shall deliver them up before you, and you shall strike them; then you shall utterly destroy them: you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them; | And when the Lord has given them up into your hands and you have overcome them, give them up to complete destruction: make no agreement with them, and have no mercy on them: | |||

ולא תתחתן בם בתך לא־תתן לבנו ובתו לא־תקח לבנך׃ |
Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. | neither shall you make marriages with them; your daughter you shall not give to his son, nor shall you take his daughter for your son. | Do not take wives or husbands from among them; do not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons. | |||

כי־יסיר את־בנך מאחרי ועבדו אלהים אחרים וחרה אף־יהוה בכם והשמידך מהר׃ |
For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly. | For he will turn away your son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so the anger of Yahweh would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly. | For through them your sons will be turned from me to the worship of other gods: and the Lord will be moved to wrath against you and send destruction on you quickly. | |||

כי־אם־כה תעשו להם מזבחתיהם תתצו ומצבתם תשברו ואשירהם תגדעון ופסיליהם תשרפון באש׃ |
But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire. | But you shall deal with them like this: you shall break down their altars, and dash their pillars in pieces, and cut down their Asherim, and burn their engraved images with fire. | But this is what you are to do to them: their altars are to be pulled down and their pillars broken, and their holy trees cut down and their images burned with fire. | |||

כי עם קדוש אתה ליהוה אלהיך בך בחר יהוה אלהיך להיות לו לעם סגלה מכל העמים אשר על־פני האדמה׃ |
For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. | For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God: Yahweh your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth. | For you are a holy people to the Lord your God: marked out by the Lord your God to be his special people out of all the nations on the face of the earth. | |||

לא מרבכם מכל־העמים חשק יהוה בכם ויבחר בכם כי־אתם המעט מכל־ העמים׃ |
The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: | Yahweh didn't set his love on you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples: | The Lord did not give you his love or take you for himself because you were more in number than any other people; for you were the smallest of the nations: | |||

כי מאהבת יהוה אתכם ומשמרו את־השבעה אשר נשבע לאבתיכם הוציא יהוה אתכם ביד חזקה ויפדך מבית עבדים מיד פרעה מלך־מצרים׃ |
But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. | but because Yahweh loves you, and because he would keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, has Yahweh brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. | But because of his love for you, and in order to keep his oath to your fathers, the Lord took you out with the strength of his hand, making you free from the prison-house and from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. | |||

וידעת כי־יהוה אלהיך הוא האלהים האל הנאמן שמר הברית והחסד לאהביו ולשמרי מצותו לאלף דור׃ |
Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; | Know therefore that Yahweh your God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with them who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations, | Be certain, then, that the Lord your God is God; whose faith and mercy are unchanging, who keeps his word through a thousand generations to those who have love for him and keep his laws; | |||

ומשלם לשנאיו אל־פניו להאבידו לא יאחר לשנאו אל־פניו ישלם־לו׃ |
And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face. | and repays those who hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him who hates him, he will repay him to his face. | Rewarding his haters to their face with destruction; he will have no mercy on his hater, but will give him open punishment. | |||

ושמרת את־המצוה ואת־החקים ואת־המשפטים אשר אנכי מצוך היום לעשותם׃ |
Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them. | You shall therefore keep the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command you this day, to do them. | So keep the orders and the laws and the decisions which I give you today and do them. | |||

והיה עקב תשמעון את המשפטים האלה ושמרתם ועשיתם אתם ושמר יהוה אלהיך לך את־הברית ואת־החסד אשר נשבע לאבתיך׃ |
Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers: | It shall happen, because you listen to these ordinances, and keep and do them, that Yahweh your God will keep with you the covenant and the loving kindness which he swore to your fathers: | And it will be, that if you give attention to these decisions and keep and do them, then the Lord will keep his agreement with you and his mercy, as he said in his oath to your fathers. | |||

ואהבך וברכך והרבך וברך פרי־בטנך ופרי־אדמתך דגנך ותירשך ויצהרך שגר־אלפיך ועשתרת צאנך על האדמה אשר־נשבע לאבתיך לתת לך׃ |
And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee. | and he will love you, and bless you, and multiply you; he will also bless the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your livestock and the young of your flock, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you. | And he will give you his love, blessing you and increasing you: he will send his blessing on the offspring of your body and the fruit of your land, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock, in the land which by his oath to your fathers he undertook to give you. | |||

ברוך תהיה מכל־העמים לא־יהיה בך עקר ועקרה ובבהמתך׃ |
Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. | You shall be blessed above all peoples: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your livestock. | You will have greater blessings than any other people: no male or female among you or among your cattle will be without offspring. | |||

והסיר יהוה ממך כל־חלי וכל־מדוי מצרים הרעים אשר ידעת לא ישימם בך ונתנם בכל־שנאיך׃ |
And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee. | Yahweh will take away from you all sickness; and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you know, he will put on you, but will lay them on all those who hate you. | And the Lord will take away from you all disease, and will not put on you any of the evil diseases of Egypt which you have seen, but will put them on your haters. | |||

ואכלת את־כל־העמים אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך לא־תחוס עינך עליהם ולא תעבד את־אלהיהם כי־מוקש הוא לך׃ |
And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee. | You shall consume all the peoples whom Yahweh your God shall deliver to you; your eye shall not pity them: neither shall you serve their gods; for that will be a snare to you. | And you are to send destruction on all the peoples which the Lord your God gives into your hands; have no pity on them, and do not give worship to their gods; for that will be a cause of sin to you. | |||

כי תאמר בלבבך רבים הגוים האלה ממני איכה אוכל להורישם׃ |
If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them? | If you shall say in your heart, "These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?" | If you say in your hearts, These nations are greater in number than we are: how are we to take their land from them? | |||

לא תירא מהם זכר תזכר את אשר־עשה יהוה אלהיך לפרעה ולכל־מצרים׃ |
Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt; | you shall not be afraid of them: you shall well remember what Yahweh your God did to Pharaoh, and to all Egypt; | Have no fear of them, but keep well in mind what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt; | |||

המסת הגדלת אשר־ראו עיניך והאתת והמפתים והיד החזקה והזרע הנטויה אשר הוצאך יהוה אלהיך כן־יעשה יהוה אלהיך לכל־העמים אשר־ אתה ירא מפניהם׃ |
The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid. | the great trials which your eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which Yahweh your God brought you out: so shall Yahweh your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. | The great punishments which your eyes saw, and the signs and the wonders and the strong hand and the stretched-out arm, by which the Lord your God took you out: so will the Lord your God do to all the peoples who are the cause of your fears. | |||

וגם את־הצרעה ישלח יהוה אלהיך בם עד־אבד הנשארים והנסתרים מפניך׃ |
Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed. | Moreover Yahweh your God will send the hornet among them, until those who are left, and hide themselves, perish from before you. | And the Lord will send a hornet among them, till all the rest who have kept themselves safe from you in secret places have been cut off. | |||

לא תערץ מפניהם כי־יהוה אלהיך בקרבך אל גדול ונורא׃ |
Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible. | You shall not be scared of them; for Yahweh your God is in the midst of you, a great and awesome God. | Have no fear of them: for the Lord your God is with you, a great God greatly to be feared. | |||

ונשל יהוה אלהיך את־הגוים האל מפניך מעט מעט לא תוכל כלתם מהר פן־תרבה עליך חית השדה׃ |
And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee. | Yahweh your God will cast out those nations before you by little and little: you may not consume them at once, lest the animals of the field increase on you. | The Lord your God will send out the nations before you little by little; they are not to be rooted out quickly, for fear that the beasts of the field may be increased overmuch against you. | |||
| 23. |
ונתנם יהוה אלהיך לפניך והמם מהומה גדלה עד השמדם׃ |
But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed. | But Yahweh your God will deliver them up before you, and will confuse them with a great confusion, until they be destroyed. | But the Lord your God will give them up into your hands, overpowering them till their destruction is complete. | |||

ונתן מלכיהם בידך והאבדת את־שמם מתחת השמים לא־יתיצב איש בפניך עד השמדך אתם׃ |
And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them. | He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name to perish from under the sky: there shall no man be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them. | He will give their kings into your hands, and you will put their names out of existence under heaven; there is not one of them who will not give way before you, till their destruction is complete. | |||

פסילי אלהיהם תשרפון באש לא־תחמד כסף וזהב עליהם ולקחת לך פן תוקש בו כי תועבת יהוה אלהיך הוא׃ |
The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God. | You shall burn the engraved images of their gods with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to Yahweh your God. | The images of their gods are to be burned with fire: have no desire for the gold and silver on them, and do not take it for yourselves, for it will be a danger to you: it is a thing disgusting to the Lord your God: | |||

ולא־תביא תועבה אל־ביתך והיית חרם כמהו שקץ תשקצנו ותעב תתעבנו כי־חרם הוא׃ |
Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing. | You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and become a devoted thing like it. You shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing. | And you may not take a disgusting thing into your house, and so become cursed with its curse: but keep yourselves from it, turning from it with fear and hate, for it is a cursed thing. | |||
