1.    {For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm by David.} Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness. Give me relief from my distress. Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.     To the chief music-maker on corded instruments. A Psalm. Of David.     Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

2.    You sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonor? Will you love vanity, and seek after falsehood? Selah.     Give answer to my cry, O God of my righteousness; make me free from my troubles; have mercy on me, and give ear to my prayer.     O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.

3.    But know that Yahweh has set apart for himself him who is godly: Yahweh will hear when I call to him.     O you sons of men, how long will you go on turning my glory into shame? how long will you give your love to foolish things, going after what is false? (Selah.)     But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.

4.    Stand in awe, and don't sin. Search your own heart on your bed, and be still. Selah.     See how the Lord has made great his mercy for me; the Lord will give ear to my cry.     Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

5.    Offer the sacrifices of righteousness. Put your trust in Yahweh.     Let there be fear in your hearts, and do no sin; have bitter feelings on your bed, but make no sound. (Selah.)     Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.

6.    Many say, "Who will show us any good?" Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us.     Give the offerings of righteousness, and put your faith in the Lord.     There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

7.    You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and their new wine are increased.     There are numbers who say, Who will do us any good? the light of his face has gone from us.     Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

8.    In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.     Lord, you have put joy in my heart, more than they have when their grain and their wine are increased.     I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
