1.    It happened after this, that Absalom the son of David had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.     And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.     ויהי  אחרי־כן

    VYHY 'aChUrY-KN VL'aBShLVM BN-DVD 'aChVTh YPhH VShMH ThMUr VY'aHBH 'aMNVN BN-DVD.     And it cometh to pass afterwards that Absalom son of David hath a fair sister, and her name is Tamar, and Amnon son of David loveth her.     factum est autem post haec ut Absalom filii David sororem speciosissimam vocabulo Thamar adamaret Amnon filius David
 
2.    Amnon was so troubled that he fell sick because of his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and it seemed hard to Amnon to do anything to her.     And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her.     ויצר  לאמנון 
להתחלות  בעבור  תמר

    VYTShUr L'aMNVN LHThChLVTh B'yBVUr ThMUr 'aChThV KY BThVLH HY'a VYPhL'a B'yYNY 'aMNVN L'yShVTh LH M'aVMH.     And Amnon hath distress -- even to become sick, because of Tamar his sister, for she is a virgin, and it is hard in the eyes of Amnon to do anything to her.     et deperiret eam valde ita ut aegrotaret propter amorem eius quia cum esset virgo difficile ei videbatur ut quippiam inhoneste ageret cum ea
 
3.    But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother; and Jonadab was a very subtle man.     But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.     ולאמנון  רע  ושמו

    VL'aMNVN Ur'y VShMV YVNDB BN-ShM'yH 'aChY DVD VYVNDB 'aYSh ChKM M'aD.     And Amnon hath a friend, and his name is Jonadab, son of Shimeah, David`s brother, and Jonadab is a very wise man,     erat autem Amnonis amicus nomine Ionadab filius Semaa fratris David vir prudens valde
 
4.    He said to him, "Why, son of the king, are you so sad from day to day? Won't you tell me?" Amnon said to him, "I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister."     And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king's son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.     ויאמר  לו  מדוע  אתה 
ככה  דל  בן־המלך
בבקר  בבקר  הלוא
תגיד  לי  ויאמר  לו
אמנון  את־תמר  אחות
אבשלם  אחי  אני
אהב׃
    VY'aMUr LV MDV'y 'aThH KKH DL BN-HMLK BBQUr BBQUr HLV'a ThGYD LY VY'aMUr LV 'aMNVN 'aTh-ThMUr 'aChVTh 'aBShLM 'aChY 'aNY 'aHB.     and saith to him, `Wherefore art thou thus lean, O king`s son, morning by morning? dost thou not declare to me?` And Amnon saith to him, `Tamar -- sister of Absalom my brother -- I am loving.`     qui dixit ad eum quare sic adtenuaris macie fili regis per singulos dies cur non indicas mihi dixitque ei Amnon Thamar sororem Absalom fratris mei amo
 
5.    Jonadab said to him, "Lay down on your bed, and pretend to be sick. When your father comes to see you, tell him, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and dress the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand.'"     And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.     ויאמר  לו  יהונדב 
שכב  על־משכבך
והתחל  ובא  אביך
לראותך  ואמרת  אליו
תבא  נא  תמר  אחותי
ותברני  לחם  ועשתה
לעיני  את־הבריה
למען  אשר  אראה
ואכלתי  מידה׃
    VY'aMUr LV YHVNDB ShKB 'yL-MShKBK VHThChL VB'a 'aBYK LUr'aVThK V'aMUrTh 'aLYV ThB'a N'a ThMUr 'aChVThY VThBUrNY LChM V'yShThH L'yYNY 'aTh-HBUrYH LM'yN 'aShUr 'aUr'aH V'aKLThY MYDH.     And Jonadab saith to him, `Lie down on thy couch, and feign thyself sick, and thy father hath come in to see thee, and thou hast said unto him, `Let, I pray thee, Tamar my sister come in and give me bread to eat; and she hath made the food before mine eyes so that I see it, and have eaten from her hand.`     cui respondit Ionadab cuba super lectulum tuum et languorem simula cumque venerit pater tuus ut visitet te dic ei veniat oro Thamar soror mea ut det mihi cibum et faciat pulmentum ut comedam de manu eius
 
6.    So Amnon lay down and faked being sick. When the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, "Please let my sister Tamar come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand."     So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.     וישכב  אמנון  ויתחל 
ויבא  המלך  לראתו
ויאמר  אמנון
אל־המלך  תבוא־נא
תמר  אחתי  ותלבב
לעיני  שתי  לבבות
ואברה  מידה׃
    VYShKB 'aMNVN VYThChL VYB'a HMLK LUr'aThV VY'aMUr 'aMNVN 'aL-HMLK ThBV'a-N'a ThMUr 'aChThY VThLBB L'yYNY ShThY LBBVTh V'aBUrH MYDH.     And Amnon lieth down, and feigneth himself sick, and the king cometh in to see him, and Amnon saith unto the king, `Let, I pray thee, Tamar my sister come, and she maketh before mine eyes two cakes, and I eat from her hand.`     accubuit itaque Amnon et quasi aegrotare coepit cumque venisset rex ad visitandum eum ait Amnon ad regem veniat obsecro Thamar soror mea ut faciat in oculis meis duas sorbitiunculas et cibum capiam de manu eius
 
7.    Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, "Go now to your brother Amnon's house, and prepare food for him."     Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon's house, and dress him meat.     וישלח  דוד  אל־תמר 
הביתה  לאמר  לכי  נא
בית  אמנון  אחיך
ועשי־לו  הבריה׃
    VYShLCh DVD 'aL-ThMUr HBYThH L'aMUr LKY N'a BYTh 'aMNVN 'aChYK V'yShY-LV HBUrYH.     And David sendeth unto Tamar, to the house, saying, `Go, I pray thee, to the house of Amnon thy brother, and make for him food.`     misit ergo David ad Thamar domum dicens veni in domum Amnon fratris tui et fac ei pulmentum
 
8.    So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. She took dough, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.     So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes.     ותלך  תמר  בית 
אמנון  אחיה  והוא
שכב  ותקח  את־הבצק
ותלוש  ותלבב
לעיניו  ותבשל

    VThLK ThMUr BYTh 'aMNVN 'aChYH VHV'a ShKB VThQCh 'aTh-HBTShQ VThLVSh VThLBB L'yYNYV VThBShL 'aTh-HLBBVTh.     And Tamar goeth to the house of Amnon her brother, and he is lying down, and she taketh the dough, and kneadeth, and maketh cakes before his eyes, and cooketh the cakes,     venitque Thamar in domum Amnon fratris sui ille autem iacebat quae tollens farinam commiscuit et liquefaciens in oculis eius coxit sorbitiunculas
 
9.    She took the pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. Amnon said, "Have all men leave me." Every man went out from him.     And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.     ותקח  את־המשרת 
ותצק  לפניו  וימאן
לאכול  ויאמר  אמנון
הוציאו  כל־  איש
מעלי  ויצאו  כל־איש
מעליו׃
    VThQCh 'aTh-HMShUrTh VThTShQ LPhNYV VYM'aN L'aKVL VY'aMUr 'aMNVN HVTShY'aV KL- 'aYSh M'yLY VYTSh'aV KL-'aYSh M'yLYV.     and taketh the frying-pan, and poureth out before him, and he refuseth to eat, and Amnon saith, `Take ye out every one from me;` and they go out every one from him.     tollensque quod coxerat effudit et posuit coram eo et noluit comedere dixitque Amnon eicite universos a me cumque eiecissent omnes
 
10.    Amnon said to Tamar, "Bring the food into the room, that I may eat from your hand." Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the room to Amnon her brother.     And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.     ויאמר  אמנון 
אל־תמר  הביאי
הבריה  החדר  ואברה
מידך  ותקח  תמר  את־
הלבבות  אשר  עשתה
ותבא  לאמנון  אחיה
החדרה׃
    VY'aMUr 'aMNVN 'aL-ThMUr HBY'aY HBUrYH HChDUr V'aBUrH MYDK VThQCh ThMUr 'aTh- HLBBVTh 'aShUr 'yShThH VThB'a L'aMNVN 'aChYH HChDUrH.     And Amnon saith unto Tamar, `Bring the food into the inner chamber, and I eat from thy hand;` and Tamar taketh the cakes that she hath made, and bringeth in to Amnon her brother, into the inner chamber,     dixit Amnon ad Thamar infer cibum in conclave ut vescar de manu tua tulit ergo Thamar sorbitiunculas quas fecerat et intulit ad Amnon fratrem suum in conclave
 
11.    When she had brought them near to him to eat, he took hold of her, and said to her, "Come, lie with me, my sister!"     And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.     ותגש  אליו  לאכל 
ויחזק־בה  ויאמר  לה
בואי  שכבי  עמי
אחותי׃
    VThGSh 'aLYV L'aKL VYChZQ-BH VY'aMUr LH BV'aY ShKBY 'yMY 'aChVThY.     and she bringeth nigh unto him to eat, and he layeth hold on her, and saith to her, `Come, lie with me, my sister.`     cumque obtulisset ei cibum adprehendit eam et ait veni cuba mecum soror mea
 
12.    She answered him, "No, my brother, do not force me! For no such thing ought to be done in Israel. Don't you do this folly.     And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.     ותאמר  לו  אל־אחי 
אל־תענני  כי
לא־יעשה  כן  בישראל
אל־תעשה  את־  הנבלה
הזאת׃
    VTh'aMUr LV 'aL-'aChY 'aL-Th'yNNY KY L'a-Y'yShH KN BYShUr'aL 'aL-Th'yShH 'aTh- HNBLH HZ'aTh.     And she saith to him, `Nay, my brother, do not humble me, for it is not done so in Israel; do not this folly.     quae respondit ei noli frater mi noli opprimere me neque enim hoc fas est in Israhel noli facere stultitiam hanc
 
13.    I, where would I carry my shame? And as for you, you will be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you."     And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.     ואני  אנה  אוליך 
את־חרפתי  ואתה
תהיה  כאחד  הנבלים
בישראל  ועתה
דבר־נא  אל־המלך  כי
לא  ימנעני  ממך׃
    V'aNY 'aNH 'aVLYK 'aTh-ChUrPhThY V'aThH ThHYH K'aChD HNBLYM BYShUr'aL V'yThH DBUr-N'a 'aL-HMLK KY L'a YMN'yNY MMK.     And I -- whither do I cause my reproach to go? and thou -- thou art as one of the fools in Israel; and now, speak, I pray thee, unto the king; for he doth not withhold me from thee.`     et ego enim ferre non potero obprobrium meum et tu eris quasi unus de insipientibus in Israhel quin potius loquere ad regem et non negabit me tibi
 
14.    However he would not listen to her voice; but being stronger than she, he forced her, and lay with her.     Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.     ולא  אבה  לשמע 
בקולה  ויחזק  ממנה
ויענה  וישכב  אתה׃
    VL'a 'aBH LShM'y BQVLH VYChZQ MMNH VY'yNH VYShKB 'aThH.     And he hath not been willing to hearken to her voice, and is stronger than she, and humbleth her, and lieth with her.     noluit autem adquiescere precibus eius sed praevalens viribus oppressit eam et cubavit cum illa
 
15.    Then Amnon hated her with exceeding great hatred; for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. Amnon said to her, "Arise, be gone!"     Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.     וישנאה  אמנון  שנאה 
גדולה  מאד  כי
גדולה  השנאה  אשר
שנאה  מאהבה  אשר
אהבה  ויאמר־לה
אמנון  קומי  לכי׃
    VYShN'aH 'aMNVN ShN'aH GDVLH M'aD KY GDVLH HShN'aH 'aShUr ShN'aH M'aHBH 'aShUr 'aHBH VY'aMUr-LH 'aMNVN QVMY LKY.     And Amnon hateth her -- a very great hatred -- that greater is the hatred with which he hath hated her than the love with which he loved her, and Amnon saith to her, `Rise, go.`     et exosam eam habuit Amnon magno odio nimis ita ut maius esset odium quo oderat eam amore quo ante dilexerat dixitque ei Amnon surge vade
 
16.    She said to him, "Not so, because this great wrong in sending me away is worse than the other that you did to me!" But he would not listen to her.     And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.     ותאמר  לו  אל־אודת 
הרעה  הגדולה  הזאת
מאחרת  אשר־עשית
עמי  לשלחני  ולא
אבה  לשמע  לה׃
    VTh'aMUr LV 'aL-'aVDTh HUr'yH HGDVLH HZ'aTh M'aChUrTh 'aShUr-'yShYTh 'yMY LShLChNY VL'a 'aBH LShM'y LH.     And she saith to him, `Because of the circumstances this evil is greater than the other that thou hast done with me -- to send me away;` and he hath not been willing to hearken to her,     quae respondit ei maius est hoc malum quod nunc agis adversum me quam quod ante fecisti expellens me et noluit audire eam
 
17.    Then he called his servant who ministered to him, and said, "Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her."     Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.     ויקרא  את־נערו 
משרתו  ויאמר
שלחו־נא  את־זאת
מעלי  החוצה  ונעל
הדלת  אחריה׃
    VYQUr'a 'aTh-N'yUrV MShUrThV VY'aMUr ShLChV-N'a 'aTh-Z'aTh M'yLY HChVTShH VN'yL HDLTh 'aChUrYH.     and calleth his young man, his servant, and saith, `Send away, I pray thee, this one from me without, and bolt the door after her;`     sed vocato puero qui ministrabat ei dixit eice hanc a me foras et claude ostium post eam
 
18.    She had a garment of various colors on her; for with such robes were the king's daughters who were virgins dressed. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.     And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.     ועליה  כתנת  פסים 
כי  כן  תלבשן
בנות־המלך  הבתולת
מעילים  ויצא  אותה
משרתו  החוץ  ונעל
הדלת  אחריה׃
    V'yLYH KThNTh PhSYM KY KN ThLBShN BNVTh-HMLK HBThVLTh M'yYLYM VYTSh'a 'aVThH MShUrThV HChVTSh VN'yL HDLTh 'aChUrYH.     -- and upon her is a long coat, for such upper robes do daughters of the king who are virgins put on, -- and his servant taketh her out without, and hath bolted the door after her.     quae induta erat talari tunica huiuscemodi enim filiae regis virgines vestibus utebantur eiecit itaque eam minister illius foras clausitque fores post eam
 
19.    Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore her garment of various colors that was on her; and she laid her hand on her head, and went her way, crying aloud as she went.     And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.     ותקח  תמר  אפר 
על־ראשה  וכתנת
הפסים  אשר  עליה
קרעה  ותשם  ידה  על־
ראשה  ותלך  הלוך
וזעקה׃
    VThQCh ThMUr 'aPhUr 'yL-Ur'aShH VKThNTh HPhSYM 'aShUr 'yLYH QUr'yH VThShM YDH 'yL- Ur'aShH VThLK HLVK VZ'yQH.     And Tamar taketh ashes for her head, and the long coat that is on her she hath rent, and putteth her hand on her head, and goeth, going on and crying;     quae aspergens cinerem capiti suo scissa talari tunica inpositisque manibus super caput suum ibat ingrediens et clamans
 
20.    Absalom her brother said to her, "Has Amnon your brother been with you? But now hold your peace, my sister. He is your brother. Don't take this thing to heart." So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house.     And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house.     ויאמר  אליה  אבשלום 
אחיה  האמינון  אחיך
היה  עמך  ועתה
אחותי  החרישי  אחיך
הוא  אל־תשיתי
את־לבך  לדבר  הזה
ותשב  תמר  ושממה
בית  אבשלום  אחיה׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLYH 'aBShLVM 'aChYH H'aMYNVN 'aChYK HYH 'yMK V'yThH 'aChVThY HChUrYShY 'aChYK HV'a 'aL-ThShYThY 'aTh-LBK LDBUr HZH VThShB ThMUr VShMMH BYTh 'aBShLVM 'aChYH.     and Absalom her brother saith unto her, `Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? and now, my sister, keep silent, he is thy brother; set not thy heart to this thing;` and Tamar dwelleth -- but desolate -- in the house of Absalom her brother.     dixit autem ei Absalom frater suus num Amnon frater tuus concubuit tecum sed nunc soror tace frater tuus est neque adfligas cor tuum pro re hac mansit itaque Thamar contabescens in domo Absalom fratris sui
 
21.    But when king David heard of all these things, he was very angry.     But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.     והמלך  דוד  שמע  את

    VHMLK DVD ShM'y 'aTh KL-HDBUrYM H'aLH VYChUr LV M'aD.     And king David hath heard all these things, and it is very displeasing to him;     cum autem audisset rex David verba haec contristatus est valde
 
22.    Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.     And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.     ולא־דבר  אבשלום 
עם־אמנון  למרע
ועד־טוב  כי־שנא
אבשלום  את־אמנון
על־דבר  אשר  ענה  את
תמר  אחתו׃
    VL'a-DBUr 'aBShLVM 'yM-'aMNVN LMUr'y V'yD-TVB KY-ShN'a 'aBShLVM 'aTh-'aMNVN 'yL-DBUr 'aShUr 'yNH 'aTh ThMUr 'aChThV.     and Absalom hath not spoken with Amnon either evil or good, for Absalom is hating Amnon, because that he humbled Tamar his sister.     porro non est locutus Absalom ad Amnon nec malum nec bonum oderat enim Absalom Amnon eo quod violasset Thamar sororem suam
 
23.    It happened after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal Hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.     And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.     ויהי  לשנתים  ימים 
ויהיו  גזזים
לאבשלום  בבעל  חצור
אשר  עם־אפרים
ויקרא  אבשלום
לכל־בני  המלך׃
    VYHY LShNThYM YMYM VYHYV GZZYM L'aBShLVM BB'yL ChTShVUr 'aShUr 'yM-'aPhUrYM VYQUr'a 'aBShLVM LKL-BNY HMLK.     And it cometh to pass, after two years of days, that Absalom hath shearers in Baal-Hazor, which is with Ephraim, and Absalom calleth for all the sons of the king.     factum est autem post tempus biennii ut tonderentur oves Absalom in Baalasor quae est iuxta Ephraim et vocavit Absalom omnes filios regis
 
24.    Absalom came to the king, and said, "See now, your servant has sheepshearers. Please let the king and his servants go with your servant."     And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.     ויבא  אבשלום 
אל־המלך  ויאמר
הנה־נא  גזזים
לעבדך  ילך־נא  המלך
ועבדיו  עם־עבדך׃
    VYB'a 'aBShLVM 'aL-HMLK VY'aMUr HNH-N'a GZZYM L'yBDK YLK-N'a HMLK V'yBDYV 'yM-'yBDK.     And Absalom cometh unto the king, and saith, `Lo, I pray thee, thy servant hath shearers, let the king go, I pray thee, and his servants, with thy servant.`     venitque ad regem et ait ad eum ecce tondentur oves servi tui veniat oro rex cum servis suis ad servum suum
 
25.    The king said to Absalom, "No, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome to you." He pressed him; however he would not go, but blessed him.     And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.     ויאמר  המלך 
אל־אבשלום  אל־בני
אל־נא  נלך  כלנו
ולא  נכבד  עליך
ויפרץ־בו  ולא־אבה
ללכת  ויברכהו׃
    VY'aMUr HMLK 'aL-'aBShLVM 'aL-BNY 'aL-N'a NLK KLNV VL'a NKBD 'yLYK VYPhUrTSh-BV VL'a-'aBH LLKTh VYBUrKHV.     And the king saith unto Absalom, `Nay, my son, let us not all go, I pray thee, and we are not too heavy on thee;` and he presseth on him, and he hath not been willing to go, and he blesseth him.     dixitque rex ad Absalom noli fili mi noli rogare ut veniamus omnes et gravemus te cum autem cogeret eum et noluisset ire benedixit ei
 
26.    Then Absalom said, "If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us." The king said to him, "Why should he go with you?"     Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?     ויאמר  אבשלום  ולא 
ילך־נא  אתנו  אמנון
אחי  ויאמר  לו  המלך
למה  ילך  עמך׃

28.    Absalom commanded his servants, saying, "Mark now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, 'Strike Amnon,' then kill him. Don't be afraid. Haven't I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!"     Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.     ויצו  אבשלום

29.    The servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man got him up on his mule, and fled.     And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. 30.    It happened, while they were in the way, that the news came to David, saying, "Absalom has slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left!"     And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.     ויהי  המה  בדרך

32.    Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother, answered, "Don't let my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead; for by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.     And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.     ויען  יונדב

33.    Now therefore don't let my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead; for Amnon only is dead."     Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.     ועתה  אל־ישם  אדני

34.    But Absalom fled. The young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, many people were coming by way of the hillside behind him.     But Absalom fled. 35.    Jonadab said to the king, "Behold, the king's sons are coming! It is as your servant said."     And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king's sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.     ויאמר  יונדב

36.    It happened, as soon as he had finished speaking, that behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice, and wept. The king also and all his servants wept bitterly.     And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.     ויהי  ככלתו  לדבר
