    VYPhQD DVD 'aTh-H'yM 'aShUr 'aThV VYShM 'yLYHM ShUrY 'aLPhYM VShUrY M'aVTh.     And David inspecteth the people who are with him, and setteth over them heads of thousands and heads of hundreds,     igitur considerato David populo suo constituit super eum tribunos et centuriones
 
2.    David sent forth the people, a third part under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. The king said to the people, "I will surely go forth with you myself also."     And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.     וישלח  דוד  את־העם

    VYShLCh DVD 'aTh-H'yM HShLShYTh BYD-YV'aB VHShLShYTh BYD 'aBYShY BN-TShUrVYH 'aChY YV'aB VHShLShTh BYD 'aThY HGThY VY'aMUr HMLK 'aL-H'yM YTSh'a 'aTSh'a GM-'aNY 'yMKM.     and David sendeth the third of the people by the hand of Joab, and the third by the hand of Abishai, son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, and the third by the hand of Ittai the Gittite, and the king saith unto the people, `I certainly go out -- I also -- with you.`     et dedit populi tertiam partem sub manu Ioab et tertiam in manu Abisai filii Sarviae fratris Ioab et tertiam sub manu Ethai qui erat de Geth dixitque rex ad populum egrediar et ego vobiscum
 
3.    But the people said, "You shall not go forth; for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us. But you are worth ten thousand of us. Therefore now it is better that you are ready to help us out of the city."     But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.     ויאמר  העם  לא  תצא

    VY'aMUr H'yM L'a ThTSh'a KY 'aM-NS NNVS L'a-YShYMV 'aLYNV LB V'aM-YMThV ChTShYNV L'a-YShYMV 'aLYNV LB KY-'yThH KMNV 'yShUrH 'aLPhYM V'yThH TVB KY-ThHYH- LNV M'yYUr L'yZYUr.     And the people say, `Thou dost not go out, for if we utterly flee, they do not set their heart upon us; and if half of us die, they do not set their heart unto us -- for now like us are ten thousand; and now, better that thou be to us from the city for an helper.`     et respondit populus non exibis sive enim fugerimus non magnopere ad eos de nobis pertinebit sive media pars ceciderit e nobis non satis curabunt quia tu unus pro decem milibus conputaris melius est igitur ut sis nobis in urbe praesidio
 
4.    The king said to them, "I will do what seems best to you." The king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.     And the king said unto them, What seemeth you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.     ויאמר  אליהם  המלך 
אשר־ייטב  בעיניכם
אעשה  ויעמד  המלך
אל־יד  השער
וכל־העם  יצאו
למאות  ולאלפים׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLYHM HMLK 'aShUr-YYTB B'yYNYKM 'a'yShH VY'yMD HMLK 'aL-YD HSh'yUr VKL-H'yM YTSh'aV LM'aVTh VL'aLPhYM.     And the king saith unto them, `That which is good in your eyes I do;` and the king standeth at the side of the gate, and all the people have gone out by hundreds and by thousands,     ad quos rex ait quod vobis rectum videtur hoc faciam stetit ergo rex iuxta portam egrediebaturque populus per turmas suas centeni et milleni
 
5.    The king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, "Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom." All the people heard when the king commanded all the captains concerning Absalom.     And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.     ויצו  המלך  את־יואב 
ואת־אבישי  ואת־אתי
לאמר  לאט־לי  לנער
לאבשלום  וכל־העם
שמעו  בצות  המלך
את־כל־השרים
על־דבר  אבשלום׃
    VYTShV HMLK 'aTh-YV'aB V'aTh-'aBYShY V'aTh-'aThY L'aMUr L'aT-LY LN'yUr L'aBShLVM VKL-H'yM ShM'yV BTShVTh HMLK 'aTh-KL-HShUrYM 'yL-DBUr 'aBShLVM.     and the king chargeth Joab, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, `Gently -- for me, for the youth, for Absalom;` and all the people heard in the king`s charging all the heads concerning Absalom.     et praecepit rex Ioab et Abisai et Ethai dicens servate mihi puerum Absalom et omnis populus audiebat praecipientem regem cunctis principibus pro Absalom
 
6.    So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.     So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim;     ויצא  העם  השדה

7.    The people of Israel were struck there before the servants of David, and there was a great slaughter there that day of twenty thousand men.     Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.     וינגפו  שם  עם

    VYNGPhV ShM 'yM YShUr'aL LPhNY 'yBDY DVD VThHY-ShM HMGPhH GDVLH BYVM HHV'a 'yShUrYM 'aLPh.     and smitten there are the people of Israel before the servants of David, and the smiting there is great on that day -- twenty thousand;     et caesus est ibi populus Israhel ab exercitu David factaque est ibi plaga magna in die illa viginti milium
 
8.    For the battle was there spread over the surface of all the country; and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.     For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.     ותהי־שם  המלחמה

9.    Absalom happened to meet the servants of David. Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the sky and earth; and the mule that was under him went on.     And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.     ויקרא  אבשלום  לפני

רכב  על־הפרד  ויבא

    VYQUr'a 'aBShLVM LPhNY 'yBDY DVD V'aBShLVM UrKB 'yL-HPhUrD VYB'a HPhUrD ThChTh ShVBK H'aLH HGDVLH VYChZQ Ur'aShV B'aLH VYThN BYN HShMYM VBYN H'aUrTSh VHPhUrD 'aShUr-ThChThYV 'yBUr.     And Absalom meeteth before the servants of David, and Absalom is riding on the mule, and the mule cometh in under an entangled bough of the great oak, and his head taketh hold on the oak, and he is placed between the heavens and the earth, and the mule that is under him hath passed on.     accidit autem ut occurreret Absalom servis David sedens mulo cumque ingressus fuisset mulus subter condensam quercum et magnam adhesit caput eius quercui et illo suspenso inter caelum et terram mulus cui sederat pertransivit
 
10.    A certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, "Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak."     And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.     וירא  איש  אחד  ויגד

    VYUr'a 'aYSh 'aChD VYGD LYV'aB VY'aMUr HNH Ur'aYThY 'aTh-'aBShLM ThLVY B'aLH.     And one man seeth, and declareth to Joab, and saith, `Lo, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.`     vidit autem hoc quispiam et nuntiavit Ioab dicens vidi Absalom pendere de quercu
 
11.    Joab said to the man who told him, "Behold, you saw it, and why didn't you strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten pieces of silver, and a sash."     And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.     ויאמר  יואב  לאיש 
המגיד  לו  והנה
ראית  ומדוע
לא־הכיתו  שם  ארצה
ועלי  לתת  לך  עשרה
כסף  וחגרה  אחת׃
    VY'aMUr YV'aB L'aYSh HMGYD LV VHNH Ur'aYTh VMDV'y L'a-HKYThV ShM 'aUrTShH V'yLY LThTh LK 'yShUrH KSPh VChGUrH 'aChTh.     And Joab saith to the man who is declaring it to him, `And lo, thou hast seen -- and wherefore didst thou not smite him there to the earth -- and on me to give to thee ten silverlings and one girdle?`     et ait Ioab viro qui nuntiaverat ei si vidisti quare non confodisti eum cum terra et ego dedissem tibi decem argenti siclos et unum balteum
 
12.    The man said to Joab, "Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I still wouldn't put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, 'Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.'     And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.     ויאמר  האיש 
אל־יואב  ולא  אנכי
שקל  על־כפי  אלף
כסף  לא־אשלח  ידי
אל־בן־המלך  כי
באזנינו  צוה  המלך
אתך  ואת־אבישי
ואת־אתי  לאמר
שמרו־  מי  בנער
באבשלום׃
    VY'aMUr H'aYSh 'aL-YV'aB VL'a 'aNKY ShQL 'yL-KPhY 'aLPh KSPh L'a-'aShLCh YDY 'aL-BN-HMLK KY B'aZNYNV TShVH HMLK 'aThK V'aTh-'aBYShY V'aTh-'aThY L'aMUr ShMUrV- MY BN'yUr B'aBShLVM.     And the man saith unto Joab, `Yea, though I am weighing on my hand a thousand silverlings, I do not put forth my hand unto the son of the king; for in our ears hath the king charged thee, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Observe ye who is against the youth -- against Absalom;     qui dixit ad Ioab si adpenderes in manibus meis mille argenteos nequaquam mitterem manum meam in filium regis audientibus enim nobis praecepit rex tibi et Abisai et Ethai dicens custodite mihi puerum Absalom
 
13.    Otherwise if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hidden from the king), then you yourself would have set yourself against me."     Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.     או־עשיתי  בנפשו 
שקר  וכל־דבר
לא־יכחד  מן־המלך
ואתה  תתיצב  מנגד׃
    'aV-'yShYThY BNPhShV ShQUr VKL-DBUr L'a-YKChD MN-HMLK V'aThH ThThYTShB MNGD.     or I had done against my soul a vain thing, and no matter is hid from the king, and thou -- thou dost station thyself over-against.`     sed et si fecissem contra animam meam audacter nequaquam hoc regem latere potuisset et tu stares ex adverso
 
14.    Then Joab said, "I'n not going to wait like this with you." He took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.     Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.     ויאמר  יואב  לא־כן 
אחילה  לפניך  ויקח
שלשה  שבטים  בכפו
ויתקעם  בלב  אבשלום
עודנו  חי  בלב
האלה׃
    VY'aMUr YV'aB L'a-KN 'aChYLH LPhNYK VYQCh ShLShH ShBTYM BKPhV VYThQ'yM BLB 'aBShLVM 'yVDNV ChY BLB H'aLH.     And Joab saith, `Not right -- I tarry before thee;` and he taketh three darts in his hand, and striketh them into the heart of Absalom, while he is alive, in the midst of the oak.     et ait Ioab non sicut tu vis sed adgrediar eum coram te tulit ergo tres lanceas in manu sua et infixit eas in corde Absalom cumque adhuc palpitaret herens in quercu
 
15.    Ten young men who bore Joab's armor surrounded and struck Absalom, and killed him.     And ten young men that bare Joab's armour compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.     ויסבו  עשרה  נערים

וימיתהו׃
    VYSBV 'yShUrH N'yUrYM NSh'aY KLY YV'aB VYKV 'aTh-'aBShLVM VYMYThHV.     And they go round -- ten youths bearing weapons of Joab -- and smite Absalom, and put him to death.     cucurrerunt decem iuvenes armigeri Ioab et percutientes interfecerunt eum
 
16.    Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel; for Joab held back the people.     And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people.     ויתקע  יואב  בשפר

    VYThQ'y YV'aB BShPhUr VYShB H'yM MUrDPh 'aChUrY YShUr'aL KY-ChShK YV'aB 'aTh-H'yM.     And Joab bloweth with a trumpet, and the people turneth back from pursuing after Israel, for Joab hath kept back the people;     cecinit autem Ioab bucina et retinuit populum ne persequeretur fugientem Israhel volens parcere multitudini
 
17.    They took Absalom, and cast him into the great pit in the forest, and raised over him a very great heap of stones. Then all Israel fled everyone to his tent.     And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.     ויקחו  את־אבשלום 
וישליכו  אתו  ביער
אל־הפחת  הגדול
ויצבו  עליו  גל־
אבנים  גדול  מאד
וכל־ישראל  נסו  איש
לאהלו׃
    VYQChV 'aTh-'aBShLVM VYShLYKV 'aThV BY'yUr 'aL-HPhChTh HGDVL VYTShBV 'yLYV GL- 'aBNYM GDVL M'aD VKL-YShUr'aL NSV 'aYSh L'aHLV.     and they take Absalom and cast him in the forest unto the great pit, and set up over him a very great heap of stones, and all Israel have fled -- each to his tent.     et tulerunt Absalom et proiecerunt eum in saltu in foveam grandem et conportaverunt super eum acervum lapidum magnum nimis omnis autem Israhel fugit in tabernacula sua
 
18.    Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself the pillar, which is in the king's dale; for he said, "I have no son to keep my name in memory." He called the pillar after his own name; and it is called Absalom's monument, to this day.     Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.     ואבשלם  לקח

    V'aBShLM LQCh VYTShB-LV BChYV 'aTh-MTShBTh 'aShUr B'yMQ-HMLK KY 'aMUr 'aYN-LY BN B'yBVUr HZKYUr ShMY VYQUr'a LMTShBTh 'yL-ShMV VYQUr'a LH YD 'aBShLM 'yD HYVM HZH.     And Absalom hath taken, and setteth up for himself in his life, the standing-pillar that is in the king`s valley, for he said, `I have no son to cause my name to be remembered;` and he calleth the standing-pillar by his own name, and it is called `The monument of Absalom` unto this day.     porro Absalom erexerat sibi cum adhuc viveret titulum qui est in valle Regis dixerat enim non habeo filium et hoc erit monumentum nominis mei vocavitque titulum nomine suo et appellatur manus Absalom usque ad hanc diem
 
19.    Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, "Let me now run, and bear the king news, how that Yahweh has avenged him of his enemies."     Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.     ואחימעץ  בן־צדוק 
אמר  ארוצה  נא
ואבשרה  את־המלך
כי־שפטו  יהוה  מיד
איביו׃
    V'aChYM'yTSh BN-TShDVQ 'aMUr 'aUrVTShH N'a V'aBShUrH 'aTh-HMLK KY-ShPhTV YHVH MYD 'aYBYV.     And Ahimaaz son of Zadok said, `Let me run, I pray thee, and I bear the king tidings, for Jehovah hath delivered him out of the hand of his enemies;`     Achimaas autem filius Sadoc ait curram et nuntiabo regi quia iudicium fecerit ei Dominus de manu inimicorum eius
 
20.    Joab said to him, "You shall not be the bearer of news this day, but you shall bear news another day. But today you shall bear no news, because the king's son is dead."     And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead.     ויאמר  לו  יואב  לא 
איש  בשרה  אתה  היום
הזה  ובשרת  ביום
אחר  והיום  הזה  לא
תבשר  כי  על־
בן־המלך  מת׃
    VY'aMUr LV YV'aB L'a 'aYSh BShUrH 'aThH HYVM HZH VBShUrTh BYVM 'aChUr VHYVM HZH L'a ThBShUr KY 'yL- BN-HMLK MTh.     and Joab saith to him, `Thou art not a man of tidings this day, but thou hast borne tidings on another day, and this day thou dost not bear tidings, because the king`s son is dead.`     ad quem Ioab dixit non eris nuntius in hac die sed nuntiabis in alia hodie nolo te nuntiare filius enim regis est mortuus
 
21.    Then said Joab to the Cushite, "Go, tell the king what you have seen!" The Cushite bowed himself to Joab, and ran.     Then said Joab to Cushi, Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.     ויאמר  יואב  לכושי 
לך  הגד  למלך  אשר
ראיתה  וישתחו  כושי
ליואב  וירץ׃
    VY'aMUr YV'aB LKVShY LK HGD LMLK 'aShUr Ur'aYThH VYShThChV KVShY LYV'aB VYUrTSh.     And Joab saith to Cushi, `Go, declare to the king that which thou hast seen;` and Cushi boweth himself to Joab, and runneth.     et ait Ioab Chusi vade et nuntia regi quae vidisti adoravit Chusi Ioab et cucurrit
 
22.    Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, "But come what may, please let me also run after the Cushite." Joab said, "Why do you want to run, my son, seeing that you will have no reward for the news?"     Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?     ויסף  עוד  אחימעץ 
בן־צדוק  ויאמר
אל־יואב  ויהי  מה
ארצה־נא  גם־אני
אחרי  הכושי  ויאמר
יואב  למה־זה  אתה
רץ  בני  ולכה
אין־בשורה  מצאת׃
    VYSPh 'yVD 'aChYM'yTSh BN-TShDVQ VY'aMUr 'aL-YV'aB VYHY MH 'aUrTShH-N'a GM-'aNY 'aChUrY HKVShY VY'aMUr YV'aB LMH-ZH 'aThH UrTSh BNY VLKH 'aYN-BShVUrH MTSh'aTh.     And Ahimaaz son of Zadok addeth again, and saith unto Joab, `And whatever it be, let me run, I pray thee, I also, after the Cushite.` And Joab saith, `Why is this -- thou art running, my son, and for thee there are no tidings found?` --     rursum autem Achimaas filius Sadoc dixit ad Ioab quid inpedit si etiam ego curram post Chusi dixitque Ioab quid vis currere fili mi non eris boni nuntii baiulus
 
23.    "But come what may," he said, "I will run." He said to him, "Run!" Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, and outran the Cushite.     But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi.     ויהי־מה  ארוץ 
ויאמר  לו  רוץ  וירץ
אחימעץ  דרך  הככר
ויעבר  את־  הכושי׃
    VYHY-MH 'aUrVTSh VY'aMUr LV UrVTSh VYUrTSh 'aChYM'yTSh DUrK HKKUr VY'yBUr 'aTh- HKVShY.     `And, whatever it be, said he, let me run.` And he saith to him, `Run;` and Ahimaaz runneth the way of the circuit, and passeth by the Cushite.     qui respondit quid enim si cucurrero et ait ei curre currens ergo Achimaas per viam conpendii transivit Chusi
 
24.    Now David was sitting between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, a man running alone.     And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.     ודוד  יושב  בין־שני

25.    The watchman cried, and told the king. The king said, "If he is alone, there is news in his mouth." He came closer and closer.     And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.     ויקרא  הצפה  ויגד

    VYQUr'a HTShPhH VYGD LMLK VY'aMUr HMLK 'aM-LBDV BShVUrH BPhYV VYLK HLVK VQUrB.     And the watchman calleth, and declareth to the king, and the king saith, `If by himself, tidings are in his mouth;` and he cometh, coming on and drawing near.     et exclamans indicavit regi dixitque rex si solus est bonus est nuntius in ore eius properante autem illo et accedente propius
 
26.    The watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the porter, and said, "Behold, a man running alone!" The king said, "He also brings news."     And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.     וירא  הצפה  איש־אחר 
רץ  ויקרא  הצפה
אל־השער  ויאמר
הנה־איש  רץ  לבדו
ויאמר  המלך  גם־זה
מבשר׃
    VYUr'a HTShPhH 'aYSh-'aChUr UrTSh VYQUr'a HTShPhH 'aL-HSh'yUr VY'aMUr HNH-'aYSh UrTSh LBDV VY'aMUr HMLK GM-ZH MBShUr.     And the watchman seeth another man running, and the watchman calleth unto the gatekeeper, and saith, `Lo, a man running by himself;` and the king saith, `Also this one is bearing tidings.`     vidit speculator hominem alterum currentem et vociferans in culmine ait apparet mihi homo currens solus dixitque rex et iste bonus est nuntius
 
27.    The watchman said, "I think the running of the first one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok." The king said, "He is a good man, and comes with good news."     And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.     ויאמר  הצפה  אני

    VY'aMUr HTShPhH 'aNY Ur'aH 'aTh-MUrVTShTh HUr'aShVN KMUrTShTh 'aChYM'yTSh BN-TShDVQ VY'aMUr HMLK 'aYSh-TVB ZH V'aL-BShVUrH TVBH YBV'a.     And the watchman saith, `I see the running of the first as the running of Ahimaaz son of Zadok.` And the king saith, `This is a good man, and with good tidings he cometh.`     speculator autem contemplor ait cursum prioris quasi cursum Achimaas filii Sadoc et ait rex vir bonus est et nuntium portans bonum venit
 
28.    Ahimaaz called, and said to the king, "All is well." He bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, "Blessed is Yahweh your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king!"     And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.     ויקרא  אחימעץ 
ויאמר  אל־המלך
שלום  וישתחו  למלך
לאפיו  ארצה  ויאמר
ברוך  יהוה  אלהיך
אשר  סגר  את־האנשים
אשר־נשאו  את־ידם
באדני  המלך׃
    VYQUr'a 'aChYM'yTSh VY'aMUr 'aL-HMLK ShLVM VYShThChV LMLK L'aPhYV 'aUrTShH VY'aMUr BUrVK YHVH 'aLHYK 'aShUr SGUr 'aTh-H'aNShYM 'aShUr-NSh'aV 'aTh-YDM B'aDNY HMLK.     And Ahimaaz calleth and saith unto the king, `Peace;` and he boweth himself to the king, on his face, to the earth, and saith, `Blessed is Jehovah thy God who hath shut up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king.`     clamans autem Achimaas dixit ad regem salve et adorans regem coram eo pronus in terram ait benedictus Dominus Deus tuus qui conclusit homines qui levaverunt manus suas contra dominum meum regem
 
29.    The king said, "Is it well with the young man Absalom?" Ahimaaz answered, "When Joab sent the king's servant, even me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I don't know what it was."     And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.     ויאמר  המלך  שלום

יואב  ואת־עבדך  ולא
ידעתי  מה׃
    VY'aMUr HMLK ShLVM LN'yUr L'aBShLVM VY'aMUr 'aChYM'yTSh Ur'aYThY HHMVN HGDVL LShLCh 'aTh-'yBD HMLK YV'aB V'aTh-'yBDK VL'a YD'yThY MH.     And the king saith, `Peace to the youth -- to Absalom?` And Ahimaaz saith, `I saw the great multitude, at the sending away of the servant of the king, even thy servant by Joab, and I have not known what it is.`     et ait rex estne pax puero Absalom dixitque Achimaas vidi tumultum magnum cum mitteret Ioab servus tuus o rex me servum tuum nescio aliud
 
30.    The king said, "Turn aside, and stand here." He turned aside, and stood still.     And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.     ויאמר  המלך  סב 
התיצב  כה  ויסב
ויעמד׃
    VY'aMUr HMLK SB HThYTShB KH VYSB VY'yMD.     And the king saith, `Turn round, station thyself here;` and he turneth round and standeth still.     ad quem rex transi ait et sta hic cumque ille transisset et staret
 
31.    Behold, the Cushite came. The Cushite said, "News for my lord the king; for Yahweh has avenged you this day of all those who rose up against you."     And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.     והנה  הכושי  בא 
ויאמר  הכושי  יתבשר
אדני  המלך  כי־שפטך
יהוה  היום  מיד
כל־הקמים  עליך׃
    VHNH HKVShY B'a VY'aMUr HKVShY YThBShUr 'aDNY HMLK KY-ShPhTK YHVH HYVM MYD KL-HQMYM 'yLYK.     And lo, the Cushite hath come, and the Cushite saith, `Let tidings be proclaimed, my lord, O king; for Jehovah hath delivered thee to-day out of the hand of all those rising up against thee.`     apparuit Chusi et veniens ait bonum adporto nuntium domine mi rex iudicavit enim pro te Dominus hodie de manu omnium qui surrexerunt contra te
 
32.    The king said to the Cushite, "Is it well with the young man Absalom?" The Cushite answered, "May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you to do you harm, be as that young man is."     And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.     ויאמר  המלך 
אל־הכושי  השלום
לנער  לאבשלום
ויאמר  הכושי  יהיו
כנער  איבי  אדני
המלך  וכל  אשר־קמו
עליך  לרעה׃
    VY'aMUr HMLK 'aL-HKVShY HShLVM LN'yUr L'aBShLVM VY'aMUr HKVShY YHYV KN'yUr 'aYBY 'aDNY HMLK VKL 'aShUr-QMV 'yLYK LUr'yH.     And the king saith unto the Cushite, `Peace to the youth -- to Absalom?` And the Cushite saith, `Let them be -- as the youth -- the enemies of my lord the king, and all who have risen up against thee for evil.`     dixit autem rex ad Chusi estne pax puero Absalom cui respondens Chusi fiant inquit sicut puer inimici domini mei regis et universi qui consurgunt adversum eum in malum
 
33.    The king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. As he went, he said, "My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! I wish I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son!"     And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!     וירגז  המלך  ויעל
