6.    It happened, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong in the house of Saul.     And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.     ויהי  בהיות  המלחמה

7.    Now Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and [Ishbosheth] said to Abner, "Why have you gone in to my father's concubine?"     And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ishbosheth said to Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father's concubine?     ולשאול  פלגש  ושמה

8.    Then was Abner very angry for the words of Ishbosheth, and said, "Am I a dog's head that belongs to Judah? Today I show kindness to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David; and yet you charge me this day with a fault concerning this woman!     Then was Abner very wroth for the words of Ishbosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head, which against Judah do shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?     ויחר  לאבנר  מאד

9.    God do so to Abner, and more also, if, as Yahweh has sworn to David, I don't do even so to him;     So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD hath sworn to David, even so I do to him;     כה־יעשה  אלהים

11.    He could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.     And he could not answer Abner a word again, because he feared him.     ולא־יכל  עוד  להשיב

    VL'a-YKL 'yVD LHShYB 'aTh-'aBNUr DBUr MYUr'aThV 'aThV.     And he is not able any more to turn back Abner a word, because of his fearing him.     et non potuit respondere ei quicquam quia metuebat illum
 
12.    Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, "Whose is the land?" and saying, "Make your alliance with me, and behold, my hand shall be with you, to bring all Israel around to you."     And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.     וישלח  אבנר  מלאכים

14.    David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul's son, saying, "Deliver me my wife Michal, whom I pledged to be married to me for one hundred foreskins of the Philistines."     And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.     וישלח  דוד  מלאכים

15.    Ishbosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Paltiel the son of Laish.     And Ishbosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Phaltiel the son of Laish.     וישלח  איש  בשת

16.    Her husband went with her, weeping as he went, and followed her to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, "Go! Return!" and he returned.     And her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned.     וילך  אתה  אישה

17.    Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, "In times past, you sought for David to be king over you.     And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you:     ודבר־אבנר  היה

    VDBUr-'aBNUr HYH 'yM-ZQNY YShUr'aL L'aMUr GM-ThMVL GM-ShLShM HYYThM MBQShYM 'aTh-DVD LMLK 'yLYKM.     And the word of Abner was with the elders of Israel, saying, `Heretofore ye have been seeking David for king over you,     sermonem quoque intulit Abner ad seniores Israhel dicens tam heri quam nudius tertius quaerebatis David ut regnaret super vos
 
18.    Now then do it; for Yahweh has spoken of David, saying, 'By the hand of my servant David, I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.'"     Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.     ועתה  עשו  כי  יהוה 
אמר  אל־דוד  לאמר
ביד  דוד  עבדי
הושיע  את־עמי
ישראל  מיד  פלשתים
ומיד  כל־איביהם׃

19.    Abner also spoke in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and to the whole house of Benjamin.     And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin.     וידבר  גם־אבנר

21.    Abner said to David, "I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your soul desires." David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.     And Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign over all that thine heart desireth. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.     ויאמר  אבנר  אל־דוד 
אקומה  ואלכה
ואקבצה  אל־אדני
המלך  את־כל־  ישראל
ויכרתו  אתך  ברית
ומלכת  בכל
אשר־תאוה  נפשך
וישלח  דוד  את־אבנר
וילך  בשלום׃

22.    Behold, the servants of David and Joab came from a foray, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.     And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.     והנה  עבדי  דוד

23.    When Joab and all the army who was with him had come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he has sent him away, and he is gone in peace.     When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he is gone in peace.     ויואב  וכל־הצבא 
אשר־אתו  באו  ויגדו
ליואב  לאמר
בא־אבנר  בן־נר  אל־
המלך  וישלחהו  וילך
בשלום׃

24.    Then Joab came to the king, and said, "What have you done? Behold, Abner came to you. Why is it that you have sent him away, and he is quite gone?     Then Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou done? behold, Abner came unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away, and he is quite gone?     ויבא  יואב  אל־המלך

25.    You know Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you do."     Thou knowest Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive thee, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou doest.     ידעת  את־אבנר

26.    When Joab had come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David didn't know it.     And when Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.     ויצא  יואב  מעם  דוד

27.    When Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and struck him there in the body, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.     And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.     וישב  אבנר  חברון

28.    Afterward, when David heard it, he said, "I and my kingdom are guiltless before Yahweh forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.     And afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner:     וישמע  דוד  מאחרי

    VYShM'y DVD M'aChUrY KN VY'aMUr NQY 'aNKY VMMLKThY M'yM YHVH 'yD-'yVLM MDMY 'aBNUr BN-NUr.     And David heareth afterwards and saith, `Acquitted am I, and my kingdom, by Jehovah, unto the age, from the blood of Abner son of Ner;     quod cum audisset David rem iam gestam ait mundus ego sum et regnum meum apud Dominum usque in sempiternum a sanguine Abner filii Ner
 
29.    Let it fall on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house. Let there not fail from the house of Joab one who has an issue, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread."     Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.     יחלו  על־ראש  יואב

    YChLV 'yL-Ur'aSh YV'aB V'aL KL-BYTh 'aBYV V'aL-YKUrTh MBYTh YV'aB ZB VMTShUr'y VMChZYQ BPhLK VNPhL BChUrB VChSUr-LChM.     it doth stay on the head of Joab, and on all the house of his father, and there is not cut off from the house of Joab one having an issue, and leprous, and laying hold on a staff, and falling by a sword, and lacking bread.`     et veniat super caput Ioab et super omnem domum patris eius nec deficiat de domo Ioab fluxum seminis sustinens et leprosus tenens fusum et cadens gladio et indigens pane
 
30.    So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.     So Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had slain their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.     ויואב  ואבישי  אחיו

31.    David said to Joab, and to all the people who were with him, Tear your clothes, and gird yourselves with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. King David followed the bier.     And David said to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David himself followed the bier.     ויאמר  דוד  אל־יואב 
ואל־כל־העם
אשר־אתו  קרעו
בגדיכם  וחגרו  שקים

33.    The king lamented for Abner, and said, "Should Abner die as a fool dies?     And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?     ויקנן  המלך

34.    Your hands were not bound, nor your feet put into fetters. As a man falls before the children of iniquity, so you fell." All the people wept again over him.     Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. 35.    All the people came to cause David to eat bread while it was yet day; but David swore, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or anything else, until the sun goes down."     And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.     ויבא  כל־העם

36.    All the people took notice of it, and it pleased them; as whatever the king did pleased all the people.     And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people.     וכל־העם  הכירו

37.    So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to kill Abner the son of Ner.     For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.     וידעו  כל־העם

    VYD'yV KL-H'yM VKL-YShUr'aL BYVM HHV'a KY L'a HYThH MHMLK LHMYTh 'aTh- 'aBNUr BN-NUr.     and all the people know, even all Israel, in that day, that it hath not been from the king -- to put to death Abner son of Ner.     et cognovit omne vulgus et universus Israhel in die illa quoniam non actum fuisset a rege ut occideretur Abner filius Ner
 
38.    The king said to his servants, "Don't you know that there a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?     And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?     ויאמר  המלך

39.    I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me. May Yahweh reward the evildoer according to his wickedness."     And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.     ואנכי  היום  רך
