    NQHLV HYHVDYM B'yUrYHM BKL-MDYNVTh HMLK 'aChShVUrVSh LShLCh YD BMBQShY Ur'yThM V'aYSh L'a-'yMD LPhNYHM KY-NPhL PhChDM 'yL-KL-H'yMYM.     the Jews have been assembled in their cities, in all provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to put forth a hand on those seeking their evil, and no man hath stood in their presence, for their fear hath fallen on all the peoples.     congregatique sunt per singulas civitates oppida et loca ut extenderent manum contra inimicos et persecutores suos nullusque ausus est resistere eo quod omnes populos magnitudinis eorum formido penetrarat
 
3.    All the princes of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and those who did the king's business helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen on them.     And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.     וכל־שרי  המדינות

    VKL-ShUrY HMDYNVTh VH'aChShDUrPhNYM VHPhChVTh V'yShY HML'aKH 'aShUr LMLK MNSh'aYM 'aTh-HYHVDYM KY-NPhL PhChD-MUrDKY 'yLYHM.     And all heads of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the governors, and those doing the work that the king hath, are lifting up the Jews, for a fear of Mordecai hath fallen upon them;     nam et provinciarum iudices duces et procuratores omnisque dignitas quae singulis locis et operibus praeerat extollebant Iudaeos timore Mardochei

5.    The Jews struck all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and with slaughter and destruction, and did what they wanted to those who hated them.     Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.     ויכו  היהודים

בשנאיהם  כרצונם׃
    VYKV HYHVDYM BKL-'aYBYHM MKTh-ChUrB VHUrG V'aBDN VY'yShV BShN'aYHM KUrTShVNM.     And the Jews smite among all their enemies -- a smiting of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction -- and do with those hating them according to their pleasure,     itaque percusserunt Iudaei inimicos suos plaga magna et occiderunt eos reddentes eis quod sibi paraverant facere
 
6.    In the citadel of Susa, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men.     And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.     ובשושן  הבירה  הרגו

8.    Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha,     And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,     ואת  פורתא  ואת 
אדליא  ואת  ארידתא׃
    V'aTh PhVUrTh'a V'aTh 'aDLY'a V'aTh 'aUrYDTh'a.     and Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,     et Phorata et Adalia et Aridatha
 
9.    Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha,     And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,     ואת  פרמשתא  ואת

    V'aTh PhUrMShTh'a V'aTh 'aUrYSY V'aTh 'aUrYDY V'aTh VYZTh'a.     and Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,     et Ephermesta et Arisai et Aridai et Vaizatha
 
10.    the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jew's enemy, but they didn't lay their hand on the plunder.     The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand.     עשרת  בני  המן

    'yShUrTh BNY HMN BN-HMDTh'a TShUrUr HYHVDYM HUrGV VBBZH L'a ShLChV 'aTh-YDM.     ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, adversary of the Jews, they have slain, and on the prey they have not put forth their hand.     quos cum occidissent praedas de substantiis eorum agere noluerunt
 
11.    On that day, the number of those who were slain in the citadel of Susa was brought before the king.     On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.     ביום  ההוא  בא  מספר

    BYVM HHV'a B'a MSPhUr HHUrVGYM BShVShN HBYUrH LPhNY HMLK.     On that day hath come the number of the slain in Shushan the palace before the king,     statimque numerus eorum qui occisi erant in Susis ad regem relatus est
 
12.    The king said to Esther the queen, "The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in the citadel of Susa, including the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king's provinces! Now what is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your further request? It shall be done."     And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.     ויאמר  המלך  לאסתר 
המלכה  בשושן  הבירה
הרגו  היהודים  ואבד
חמש  מאות  איש  ואת
עשרת  בני־המן  בשאר
מדינות  המלך  מה
עשו  ומה־שאלתך
וינתן  לך

    VY'aMUr HMLK L'aSThUr HMLKH BShVShN HBYUrH HUrGV HYHVDYM V'aBD ChMSh M'aVTh 'aYSh V'aTh 'yShUrTh BNY-HMN BSh'aUr MDYNVTh HMLK MH 'yShV VMH-Sh'aLThK VYNThN LK VMH-BQShThK 'yVD VTh'ySh.     and the king saith to Esther the queen, `In Shushan the palace have the Jews slain and destroyed five hundred men, and the ten sons of Haman; in the rest of the provinces of the king what have they done? and what is thy petition? and it is given to thee; and what thy request again? and it is done.`     qui dixit reginae in urbe Susis interfecere Iudaei quingentos viros et alios decem filios Aman quantam putas eos exercere caedem in universis provinciis quid ultra postulas et quid vis ut fieri iubeam
 
13.    Then Esther said, "If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according to this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged on the gallows."     Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do to morrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.     ותאמר  אסתר 
אם־על־המלך  טוב
ינתן  גם־מחר
ליהודים  אשר  בשושן
לעשות  כדת  היום
ואת  עשרת  בני־המן
יתלו  על־העץ׃
    VTh'aMUr 'aSThUr 'aM-'yL-HMLK TVB YNThN GM-MChUr LYHVDYM 'aShUr BShVShN L'yShVTh KDTh HYVM V'aTh 'yShUrTh BNY-HMN YThLV 'yL-H'yTSh.     And Esther saith, `If to the king it be good, let it be given also to-morrow, to the Jews who are in Shushan, to do according to the law of to-day; and the ten sons of Haman they hang on the tree.`     cui illa respondit si regi placet detur potestas Iudaeis ut sicut hodie fecerunt in Susis sic et cras faciant et decem filii Aman in patibulis suspendantur
 
14.    The king commanded this to be done. A decree was given out in Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.     And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.     ויאמר  המלך  להעשות 
כן  ותנתן  דת  בשושן
ואת  עשרת  בני־המן
תלו׃
    VY'aMUr HMLK LH'yShVTh KN VThNThN DTh BShVShN V'aTh 'yShUrTh BNY-HMN ThLV.     And the king saith -- `to be done so;` and a law is given in Shushan, and the ten sons of Haman they have hanged.     praecepitque rex ut ita fieret statimque in Susis pependit edictum et decem Aman filii suspensi sunt
 
15.    The Jews who were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and killed three hundred men in Shushan; but they didn't lay their hand on the spoil.     For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.     ויקהלו  היהודיים 
אשר־בשושן  גם  ביום
ארבעה  עשר  לחדש
אדר  ויהרגו  בשושן
שלש  מאות  איש
ובבזה  לא  שלחו
את־ידם׃
    VYQHLV HYHVDYYM 'aShUr-BShVShN GM BYVM 'aUrB'yH 'yShUr LChDSh 'aDUr VYHUrGV BShVShN ShLSh M'aVTh 'aYSh VBBZH L'a ShLChV 'aTh-YDM.     And the Jews who are in Shushan are assembled also on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and they slay in Shushan three hundred men, and on the prey they have not put forth their hand.     congregatis Iudaeis quartadecima adar mensis die interfecti sunt in Susis trecenti viri nec eorum ab illis direpta substantia est
 
16.    The other Jews who were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, defended their lives, had rest from their enemies, and killed seventy-five thousand of those who hated them; but they didn't lay their hand on the plunder.     But the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,     ושאר  היהודים  אשר 
במדינות  המלך
נקהלו  ועמד
על־נפשם  ונוח
מאיביהם  והרוג
בשנאיהם  חמשה
ושבעים  אלף  ובבזה
לא  שלחו  את־ידם׃
    VSh'aUr HYHVDYM 'aShUr BMDYNVTh HMLK NQHLV V'yMD 'yL-NPhShM VNVCh M'aYBYHM VHUrVG BShN'aYHM ChMShH VShB'yYM 'aLPh VBBZH L'a ShLChV 'aTh-YDM.     And the rest of the Jews, who are in the provinces of the king, have been assembled, even to stand for their life, and to rest from their enemies, and to slay among those hating them five and seventy thousand, and on the prey they have not put forth their hand;     sed et per omnes provincias quae dicioni regis subiacebant pro animabus suis stetere Iudaei interfectis hostibus ac persecutoribus suis in tantum ut septuaginta quinque milia occisorum implerentur et nullus de substantiis eorum quicquam contingeret
 
17.    This was done on the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of that month they rested and made it a day of feasting and gladness.     On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.     ביום־שלושה  עשר

18.    But the Jews who were in Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth and on the fourteenth days of the month; and on the fifteenth day of that month, they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.     But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.     והיהודיים

19.    Therefore the Jews of the villages, who live in the unwalled towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, a good day, and a day of sending presents of food to one another.     Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.     על־כן  היהודים

    'yL-KN HYHVDYM HPhUrVZYM HYShBYM B'yUrY HPhUrZVTh 'yShYM 'aTh YVM 'aUrB'yH 'yShUr LChDSh 'aDUr ShMChH VMShThH VYVM TVB VMShLVCh MNVTh 'aYSh LUr'yHV.     Therefore the Jews of the villages, who are dwelling in cities of the villages, are making the fourteenth day of the month of Adar -- joy and banquet, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.     hii vero Iudaei qui in oppidis non muratis ac villis morabantur quartumdecimum diem mensis adar conviviorum et gaudii decreverunt ita ut exultent in eo et mittant sibi mutuo partes epularum et ciborum
 
20.    Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both near and far,     And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,     ויכתב  מרדכי 
את־הדברים  האלה
וישלח  ספרים
אל־כל־היהודים  אשר
בכל־  מדינות  המלך

    VYKThB MUrDKY 'aTh-HDBUrYM H'aLH VYShLCh SPhUrYM 'aL-KL-HYHVDYM 'aShUr BKL- MDYNVTh HMLK 'aChShVUrVSh HQUrVBYM VHUrChVQYM.     And Mordecai writeth these things, and sendeth letters unto all the Jews who are in all provinces of the king Ahasuerus, who are near and who are far off,     scripsit itaque Mardocheus omnia haec et litteris conprehensa misit ad Iudaeos qui in omnibus regis provinciis morabantur tam in vicino positis quam procul
 
21.    to enjoin them that they should keep the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month Adar yearly,     To stablish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,     לקים  עליהם  להיות

    LQYM 'yLYHM LHYVTh 'yShYM 'aTh YVM 'aUrB'yH 'yShUr LChDSh 'aDUr V'aTh YVM-ChMShH 'yShUr BV BKL-ShNH VShNH.     to establish on them, to be keeping the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and the fifteenth day of it, in every year and year,     ut quartamdecimam et quintamdecimam diem mensis adar pro festis susciperent et revertente semper anno sollemni honore celebrarent
 
22.    as the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned to them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending presents of food to one another, and gifts to the needy.     As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.     כימים  אשר־נחו  בהם

23.    The Jews accepted the custom that they had begun, as Mordecai had written to them;     And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;     וקבל  היהודים  את 
אשר־החלו  לעשות
ואת  אשר־כתב  מרדכי
אליהם׃
    VQBL HYHVDYM 'aTh 'aShUr-HChLV L'yShVTh V'aTh 'aShUr-KThB MUrDKY 'aLYHM.     And the Jews have received that which they had begun to do, and that which Mordecai hath written unto them,     susceperuntque Iudaei in sollemnem ritum cuncta quae eo tempore facere coeperant et quae Mardocheus litteris facienda mandaverat

26.    Therefore they called these days "Purim,{Purim is the Hebrew plural for pur, which means lot.}" from the word "Pur." Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come to them,     Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur.
