1.    All the congregation of the children of Israel traveled from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to Yahweh's commandment, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.     And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.     ויסעו  כל־עדת 
בני־ישראל
ממדבר־סין  למסעיהם
על־פי  יהוה  ויחנו
ברפידים  ואין  מים
לשתת  העם׃
    VYS'yV KL-'yDTh BNY-YShUr'aL MMDBUr-SYN LMS'yYHM 'yL-PhY YHVH VYChNV BUrPhYDYM V'aYN MYM LShThTh H'yM.     And all the company of the sons of Israel journey from the wilderness of Sin, on their journeyings, by the command of Jehovah, and encamp in Rephidim, and there is no water for the people to drink;     igitur profecta omnis multitudo filiorum Israhel de deserto Sin per mansiones suas iuxta sermonem Domini castrametata est in Raphidim ubi non erat aqua ad bibendum populo
 
2.    Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?"     Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?     וירב  העם  עם־משה 
ויאמרו  תנו־לנו
מים  ונשתה  ויאמר
להם  משה  מה־
תריבון  עמדי
מה־תנסון  את־יהוה׃
    VYUrB H'yM 'yM-MShH VY'aMUrV ThNV-LNV MYM VNShThH VY'aMUr LHM MShH MH- ThUrYBVN 'yMDY MH-ThNSVN 'aTh-YHVH.     and the people strive with Moses, and say, `Give us water, and we drink.` And Moses saith to them, `What? -- ye strive with me, what? -- ye try Jehovah?`     qui iurgatus contra Mosen ait da nobis aquam ut bibamus quibus respondit Moses quid iurgamini contra me cur temptatis Dominum
 
3.    The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?"     And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?     ויצמא  שם  העם  למים 
וילן  העם  על־משה
ויאמר  למה  זה
העליתנו  ממצרים
להמית  אתי  ואת־בני
ואת־מקני  בצמא׃
    VYTShM'a ShM H'yM LMYM VYLN H'yM 'yL-MShH VY'aMUr LMH ZH H'yLYThNV MMTShUrYM LHMYTh 'aThY V'aTh-BNY V'aTh-MQNY BTShM'a.     and the people thirst there for water, and the people murmur against Moses, and say, `Why is this? -- thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to put us to death, also our sons and our cattle, with thirst.`     sitivit ergo populus ibi pro aquae penuria et murmuravit contra Mosen dicens cur nos exire fecisti de Aegypto ut occideres et nos et liberos nostros ac iumenta siti
 
4.    Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, "What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."     And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.     ויצעק  משה  אל־יהוה 
לאמר  מה  אעשה  לעם
הזה  עוד  מעט
וסקלני׃
    VYTSh'yQ MShH 'aL-YHVH L'aMUr MH 'a'yShH L'yM HZH 'yVD M'yT VSQLNY.     And Moses crieth to Jehovah, saying, `What do I to this people? yet a little, and they have stoned me.`     clamavit autem Moses ad Dominum dicens quid faciam populo huic adhuc pauxillum et lapidabunt me
 
5.    Yahweh said to Moses, "Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.     And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.     ויאמר  יהוה  אל־משה 
עבר  לפני  העם  וקח
אתך  מזקני  ישראל
ומטך  אשר  הכית  בו
את־היאר  קח  בידך
והלכת׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aL-MShH 'yBUr LPhNY H'yM VQCh 'aThK MZQNY YShUr'aL VMTK 'aShUr HKYTh BV 'aTh-HY'aUr QCh BYDK VHLKTh.     And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Pass over before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy rod with which thou hast smitten the River take in thy hand, and thou hast gone:     ait Dominus ad Mosen antecede populum et sume tecum de senibus Israhel et virgam qua percussisti fluvium tolle in manu tua et vade
 
6.    Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.     Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.     הנני  עמד  לפניך  שם 
על־הצור  בחרב
והכית  בצור  ויצאו
ממנו  מים  ושתה  העם
ויעש  כן  משה  לעיני
זקני  ישראל׃
    HNNY 'yMD LPhNYK ShM 'yL-HTShVUr BChUrB VHKYTh BTShVUr VYTSh'aV MMNV MYM VShThH H'yM VY'ySh KN MShH L'yYNY ZQNY YShUr'aL.     Lo, I am standing before thee there on the rock in Horeb, and thou hast smitten on the rock, and waters have come out from it, and the people have drunk.` And Moses doth so before the eyes of the elders of Israel,     en ego stabo coram te ibi super petram Horeb percutiesque petram et exibit ex ea aqua ut bibat populus fecit Moses ita coram senibus Israhel
 
7.    He called the name of the place Massah,{Massah means testing.} and Meribah,{Meribah means quarreling.} because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested Yahweh, saying, "Is Yahweh among us, or not?"     And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?     ויקרא  שם  המקום 
מסה  ומריבה  על־ריב
בני  ישראל  ועל
נסתם  את־יהוה  לאמר
היש  יהוה  בקרבנו
אם־אין׃
    VYQUr'a ShM HMQVM MSH VMUrYBH 'yL-UrYB BNY YShUr'aL V'yL NSThM 'aTh-YHVH L'aMUr HYSh YHVH BQUrBNV 'aM-'aYN.     and he calleth the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the `strife` of the sons of Israel, and because of their `trying` Jehovah, saying, `Is Jehovah in our midst or not?`     et vocavit nomen loci illius Temptatio propter iurgium filiorum Israhel et quia temptaverunt Dominum dicentes estne Dominus in nobis an non
 
8.    Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.     Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.     ויבא  עמלק  וילחם 
עם־ישראל  ברפידם׃
    VYB'a 'yMLQ VYLChM 'yM-YShUr'aL BUrPhYDM.     And Amalek cometh, and fighteth with Israel in Rephidim,     venit autem Amalech et pugnabat contra Israhel in Raphidim
 
9.    Moses said to Joshua, "Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God's rod in my hand."     And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.     ויאמר  משה 
אל־יהושע  בחר־לנו
אנשים  וצא  הלחם
בעמלק  מחר  אנכי
נצב  על־ראש  הגבעה
ומטה  האלהים  בידי׃
    VY'aMUr MShH 'aL-YHVSh'y BChUr-LNV 'aNShYM VTSh'a HLChM B'yMLQ MChUr 'aNKY NTShB 'yL-Ur'aSh HGB'yH VMTH H'aLHYM BYDY.     and Moses saith unto Joshua, `Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I am standing on the top of the hill, and the rod of God in my hand.`     dixitque Moses ad Iosue elige viros et egressus pugna contra Amalech cras ego stabo in vertice collis habens virgam Dei in manu mea
 
10.    So Joshua did as Moses had told him, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.     So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.     ויעש  יהושע  כאשר 
אמר־לו  משה  להלחם
בעמלק  ומשה  אהרן
וחור  עלו  ראש
הגבעה׃
    VY'ySh YHVSh'y K'aShUr 'aMUr-LV MShH LHLChM B'yMLQ VMShH 'aHUrN VChVUr 'yLV Ur'aSh HGB'yH.     And Joshua doth as Moses hath said to him, to fight with Amalek, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, have gone up to the top of the height;     fecit Iosue ut locutus ei erat Moses et pugnavit contra Amalech Moses autem et Aaron et Hur ascenderunt super verticem collis
 
11.    It happened, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.     And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.     והיה  כאשר  ירים 
משה  ידו  וגבר
ישראל  וכאשר  יניח
ידו  וגבר  עמלק׃
    VHYH K'aShUr YUrYM MShH YDV VGBUr YShUr'aL VK'aShUr YNYCh YDV VGBUr 'yMLQ.     and it hath come to pass, when Moses lifteth up his hand, that Israel hath been mighty, and when he letteth his hands rest, that Amalek hath been mighty.     cumque levaret Moses manus vincebat Israhel sin autem paululum remisisset superabat Amalech
 
12.    But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.     But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.     וידי  משה  כבדים 
ויקחו־אבן  וישימו
תחתיו  וישב  עליה
ואהרן  וחור  תמכו
בידיו  מזה  אחד
ומזה  אחד  ויהי
ידיו  אמונה  עד־בא
השמש׃
    VYDY MShH KBDYM VYQChV-'aBN VYShYMV ThChThYV VYShB 'yLYH V'aHUrN VChVUr ThMKV BYDYV MZH 'aChD VMZH 'aChD VYHY YDYV 'aMVNH 'yD-B'a HShMSh.     And the hands of Moses are heavy, and they take a stone, and set it under him, and he sitteth on it: and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, on this side one, and on that one, and his hands are stedfast till the going in of the sun;     manus autem Mosi erant graves sumentes igitur lapidem posuerunt subter eum in quo sedit Aaron autem et Hur sustentabant manus eius ex utraque parte et factum est ut manus ipsius non lassarentur usque ad occasum solis
 
13.    Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.     And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.     ויחלש  יהושע 
את־עמלק  ואת־עמו
לפי־חרב׃
    VYChLSh YHVSh'y 'aTh-'yMLQ V'aTh-'yMV LPhY-ChUrB.     and Joshua weakeneth Amalek and his people by the mouth of the sword.     fugavitque Iosue Amalech et populum eius in ore gladii
 
14.    Yahweh said to Moses, "Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sky."     And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.     ויאמר  יהוה  אל־משה 
כתב  זאת  זכרון
בספר  ושים  באזני
יהושע  כי־מחה  אמחה
את־זכר  עמלק  מתחת
השמים׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aL-MShH KThB Z'aTh ZKUrVN BSPhUr VShYM B'aZNY YHVSh'y KY-MChH 'aMChH 'aTh-ZKUr 'yMLQ MThChTh HShMYM.     And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Write this, a memorial in a Book, and set it in the ears of Joshua, that I do utterly wipe away the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens;`     dixit autem Dominus ad Mosen scribe hoc ob monumentum in libro et trade auribus Iosue delebo enim memoriam Amalech sub caelo
 
15.    Moses built an altar, and called its name Yahweh our Banner.{Hebrew, Yahweh Nissi}     And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:     ויבן  משה  מזבח 
ויקרא  שמו  יהוה
נסי׃
    VYBN MShH MZBCh VYQUr'a ShMV YHVH NSY.     and Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,     aedificavitque Moses altare et vocavit nomen eius Dominus exaltatio mea dicens
 
16.    He said, "Yah has sworn: 'Yahweh will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.'"     For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.     ויאמר  כי־יד  על־כס 
יה  מלחמה  ליהוה
בעמלק  מדר  דר׃
    VY'aMUr KY-YD 'yL-KS YH MLChMH LYHVH B'yMLQ MDUr DUr.     and saith, `Because a hand is on the throne of Jah, war is to Jehovah with Amalek from generation -- generation.`     quia manus solii Domini et bellum Dei erit contra Amalech a generatione in generationem
