1.    The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:     The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;     משלי  שלמה  בן־דוד

2.    to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;     To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;     לדעת  חכמה  ומוסר 
להבין  אמרי  בינה׃
    LD'yTh ChKMH VMVSUr LHBYN 'aMUrY BYNH.     For knowing wisdom and instruction, For understanding sayings of intelligence,     ad sciendam sapientiam et disciplinam
 
3.    to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;     To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;     לקחת  מוסר  השכל 
צדק  ומשפט
ומישרים׃
    LQChTh MVSUr HShKL TShDQ VMShPhT VMYShUrYM.     For receiving the instruction of wisdom, Righteousness, judgment, and uprightness,     ad intellegenda verba prudentiae et suscipiendam eruditionem doctrinae iustitiam et iudicium et aequitatem
 
4.    to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man:     To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.     לתת  לפתאים  ערמה 
לנער  דעת  ומזמה׃
    LThTh LPhTh'aYM 'yUrMH LN'yUr D'yTh VMZMH.     For giving to simple ones -- prudence, To a youth -- knowledge and discretion.     ut detur parvulis astutia adulescenti scientia et intellectus
 
5.    that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:     A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:     ישמע  חכם  ויוסף 
לקח  ונבון  תחבלות
יקנה׃
    YShM'y ChKM VYVSPh LQCh VNBVN ThChBLVTh YQNH.     (The wise doth hear and increaseth learning, And the intelligent doth obtain counsels.)     audiens sapiens sapientior erit et intellegens gubernacula possidebit
 
6.    to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.     To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.     להבין  משל  ומליצה 
דברי  חכמים
וחידתם׃
    LHBYN MShL VMLYTShH DBUrY ChKMYM VChYDThM.     For understanding a proverb and its sweetness, Words of the wise and their acute sayings.     animadvertet parabolam et interpretationem verba sapientium et enigmata eorum
 
7.    The fear of Yahweh{"Yahweh" is God's proper Name, sometimes rendered "LORD" (all caps) in other translations.} is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.     The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.     יראת  יהוה  ראשית 
דעת  חכמה  ומוסר
אוילים  בזו׃
    YUr'aTh YHVH Ur'aShYTh D'yTh ChKMH VMVSUr 'aVYLYM BZV.     Fear of Jehovah is a beginning of knowledge, Wisdom and instruction fools have despised!     timor Domini principium scientiae sapientiam atque doctrinam stulti despiciunt
 
8.    My son, listen to your father's instruction, and don't forsake your mother's teaching:     My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:     שמע  בני  מוסר  אביך 
ואל־תטש  תורת  אמך׃
    ShM'y BNY MVSUr 'aBYK V'aL-ThTSh ThVUrTh 'aMK.     Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, And leave not the law of thy mother,     audi fili mi disciplinam patris tui et ne dimittas legem matris tuae
 
9.    for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.     For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.     כי  לוית  חן  הם 
לראשך  וענקים
לגרגרתיך׃
    KY LVYTh ChN HM LUr'aShK V'yNQYM LGUrGUrThYK.     For a graceful wreath are they to thy head, And chains to thy neck.     ut addatur gratia capiti tuo et torques collo tuo
 
10.    My son, if sinners entice you, don't consent.     My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.     בני  אם־יפתוך 
חטאים  אל־תבא׃
    BNY 'aM-YPhThVK ChT'aYM 'aL-ThB'a.     My son, if sinners entice thee be not willing.     fili mi si te lactaverint peccatores ne adquiescas
 
11.    If they say, "Come with us, Let's lay in wait for blood; let's lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;     If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:     אם־יאמרו  לכה  אתנו 
נארבה  לדם  נצפנה
לנקי  חנם׃
    'aM-Y'aMUrV LKH 'aThNV N'aUrBH LDM NTShPhNH LNQY ChNM.     If they say, `Come with us, we lay wait for blood, We watch secretly for the innocent without cause,     si dixerint veni nobiscum insidiemur sanguini abscondamus tendiculas contra insontem frustra
 
12.    let's swallow them up alive like Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.}, and whole, like those who go down into the pit.     Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:     נבלעם  כשאול  חיים 
ותמימים  כיורדי
בור׃
    NBL'yM KSh'aVL ChYYM VThMYMYM KYVUrDY BVUr.     We swallow them as Sheol -- alive, And whole -- as those going down to the pit,     degluttiamus eum sicut infernus viventem et integrum quasi descendentem in lacum
 
13.    We'll find all valuable wealth. We'll fill our houses with spoil.     We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:     כל־הון  יקר  נמצא 
נמלא  בתינו  שלל׃
    KL-HVN YQUr NMTSh'a NML'a BThYNV ShLL.     Every precious substance we find, We fill our houses with spoil,     omnem pretiosam substantiam repperiemus implebimus domos nostras spoliis
 
14.    You shall cast your lot among us. We'll all have one purse."     Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:     גורלך  תפיל  בתוכנו 
כיס  אחד  יהיה
לכלנו׃
    GVUrLK ThPhYL BThVKNV KYS 'aChD YHYH LKLNV.     Thy lot thou dost cast among us, One purse is -- to all of us.`     sortem mitte nobiscum marsuppium unum sit omnium nostrum
 
15.    My son, don't walk in the way with them. Keep your foot from their path,     My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:     בני  אל־תלך  בדרך 
אתם  מנע  רגלך
מנתיבתם׃
    BNY 'aL-ThLK BDUrK 'aThM MN'y UrGLK MNThYBThM.     My son! go not in the way with them, Withhold thy foot from their path,     fili mi ne ambules cum eis prohibe pedem tuum a semitis eorum
 
16.    for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.     For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.     כי  רגליהם  לרע 
ירוצו  וימהרו
לשפך־דם׃
    KY UrGLYHM LUr'y YUrVTShV VYMHUrV LShPhK-DM.     For their feet to evil do run, And they haste to shed blood.     pedes enim illorum ad malum currunt et festinant ut effundant sanguinem
 
17.    For in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird:     Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.     כי־חנם  מזרה  הרשת 
בעיני  כל־בעל  כנף׃
    KY-ChNM MZUrH HUrShTh B'yYNY KL-B'yL KNPh.     Surely in vain is the net spread out before the eyes of any bird.     frustra autem iacitur rete ante oculos pinnatorum
 
18.    but these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.     And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.     והם  לדמם  יארבו 
יצפנו  לנפשתם׃
    VHM LDMM Y'aUrBV YTShPhNV LNPhShThM.     And they for their own blood lay wait, They watch secretly for their own lives.     ipsique contra sanguinem suum insidiantur et moliuntur fraudes contra animas suas
 
19.    So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.     So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.     כן  ארחות  כל־בצע 
בצע  את־נפש  בעליו
יקח׃
    KN 'aUrChVTh KL-BTSh'y BTSh'y 'aTh-NPhSh B'yLYV YQCh.     So are the paths of every gainer of dishonest gain, The life of its owners it taketh.     sic semitae omnis avari animas possidentium rapiunt
 
20.    Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.     Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:     חכמות  בחוץ  תרנה 
ברחבות  תתן  קולה׃
    ChKMVTh BChVTSh ThUrNH BUrChBVTh ThThN QVLH.     Wisdom in an out-place crieth aloud, In broad places she giveth forth her voice,     sapientia foris praedicat in plateis dat vocem suam
 
21.    She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:     She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,     בראש  המיות  תקרא 
בפתחי  שערים  בעיר
אמריה  תאמר׃
    BUr'aSh HMYVTh ThQUr'a BPhThChY Sh'yUrYM B'yYUr 'aMUrYH Th'aMUr.     At the head of the multitudes she calleth, In the openings of the gates, In the city her sayings she saith:     in capite turbarum clamitat in foribus portarum urbis profert verba sua dicens
 
22.    "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?     How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?     עד־מתי  פתים  תאהבו 
פתי  ולצים  לצון
חמדו  להם  וכסילים
ישנאו־דעת׃
    'yD-MThY PhThYM Th'aHBV PhThY VLTShYM LTShVN ChMDV LHM VKSYLYM YShN'aV-D'yTh.     `Till when, ye simple, do ye love simplicity? And have scorners their scorning desired? And do fools hate knowledge?     usquequo parvuli diligitis infantiam et stulti ea quae sibi sunt noxia cupiunt et inprudentes odibunt scientiam
 
23.    Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.     Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.     תשובו  לתוכחתי  הנה 
אביעה  לכם  רוחי
אודיעה  דברי  אתכם׃
    ThShVBV LThVKChThY HNH 'aBY'yH LKM UrVChY 'aVDY'yH DBUrY 'aThKM.     Turn back at my reproof, lo, I pour forth to you my spirit, I make known my words with you.     convertimini ad correptionem meam en proferam vobis spiritum meum et ostendam verba mea
 
24.    Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;     Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;     יען  קראתי  ותמאנו 
נטיתי  ידי  ואין
מקשיב׃
    Y'yN QUr'aThY VThM'aNV NTYThY YDY V'aYN MQShYB.     Because I have called, and ye refuse, I stretched out my hand, and none is attending,     quia vocavi et rennuistis extendi manum meam et non fuit qui aspiceret
 
25.    but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;     But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:     ותפרעו  כל־עצתי 
ותוכחתי  לא  אביתם׃
    VThPhUr'yV KL-'yTShThY VThVKChThY L'a 'aBYThM.     And ye slight all my counsel, And my reproof ye have not desired.     despexistis omne consilium meum et increpationes meas neglexistis
 
26.    I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you;     I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;     גם־אני  באידכם 
אשחק  אלעג  בבא
פחדכם׃
    GM-'aNY B'aYDKM 'aShChQ 'aL'yG BB'a PhChDKM.     I also in your calamity do laugh, I deride when your fear cometh,     ego quoque in interitu vestro ridebo et subsannabo cum vobis quod timebatis advenerit
 
27.    when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you.     When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.     בבא  כשאוה  פחדכם 
ואידכם  כסופה  יאתה
בבא  עליכם  צרה
וצוקה׃
    BB'a KSh'aVH PhChDKM V'aYDKM KSVPhH Y'aThH BB'a 'yLYKM TShUrH VTShVQH.     When your fear cometh as destruction, And your calamity as a hurricane doth come, When on you come adversity and distress.     cum inruerit repentina calamitas et interitus quasi tempestas ingruerit quando venerit super vos tribulatio et angustia
 
28.    Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;     Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:     אז  יקראנני  ולא 
אענה  ישחרנני  ולא
ימצאנני׃
    'aZ YQUr'aNNY VL'a 'a'yNH YShChUrNNY VL'a YMTSh'aNNY.     Then they call me, and I do not answer, They seek me earnestly, and find me not.     tunc invocabunt me et non exaudiam mane consurgent et non invenient me
 
29.    because they hated knowledge, and didn't choose the fear of Yahweh.     For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:     תחת  כי־שנאו  דעת 
ויראת  יהוה  לא
בחרו׃
    ThChTh KY-ShN'aV D'yTh VYUr'aTh YHVH L'a BChUrV.     Because that they have hated knowledge, And the fear of Jehovah have not chosen.     eo quod exosam habuerint disciplinam et timorem Domini non susceperint
 
30.    They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.     They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.     לא־אבו  לעצתי  נאצו 
כל־תוכחתי׃
    L'a-'aBV L'yTShThY N'aTShV KL-ThVKChThY.     They have not consented to my counsel, They have despised all my reproof,     nec adquieverint consilio meo et detraxerint universae correptioni meae
 
31.    Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.     Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.     ויאכלו  מפרי  דרכם 
וממעצתיהם  ישבעו׃
    VY'aKLV MPhUrY DUrKM VMM'yTShThYHM YShB'yV.     And they eat of the fruit of their way, And from their own counsels they are filled.     comedent igitur fructus viae suae suisque consiliis saturabuntur
 
32.    For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.     For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.     כי  משובת  פתים 
תהרגם  ושלות
כסילים  תאבדם׃
    KY MShVBTh PhThYM ThHUrGM VShLVTh KSYLYM Th'aBDM.     For the turning of the simple slayeth them, And the security of the foolish destroyeth them.     aversio parvulorum interficiet eos et prosperitas stultorum perdet illos
 
33.    But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm."     But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.     ושמע  לי  ישכן־בטח 
ושאנן  מפחד  רעה׃
    VShM'y LY YShKN-BTCh VSh'aNN MPhChD Ur'yH.     And whoso is hearkening to me dwelleth confidently, And is quiet from fear of evil!`     qui autem me audierit absque terrore requiescet et abundantia perfruetur malorum timore sublato
