1.    A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.     A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.     נבחר  שם  מעשר  רב

2.    The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.     The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.     עשיר  ורש  נפגשו 
עשה  כלם  יהוה׃
    'yShYUr VUrSh NPhGShV 'yShH KLM YHVH.     Rich and poor have met together, The Maker of them all is Jehovah.     dives et pauper obviaverunt sibi utriusque operator est Dominus
 
3.    A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.     A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.     ערום  ראה  רעה 
ויסתר  ופתיים  עברו
ונענשו׃
    'yUrVM Ur'aH Ur'yH VYSThUr VPhThYYM 'yBUrV VN'yNShV.     The prudent hath seen the evil, and is hidden, And the simple have passed on, and are punished.     callidus vidit malum et abscondit se innocens pertransiit et adflictus est damno
 
4.    The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life.     By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.     עקב  ענוה  יראת 
יהוה  עשר  וכבוד
וחיים׃
    'yQB 'yNVH YUr'aTh YHVH 'yShUr VKBVD VChYYM.     The end of humility is the fear of Jehovah, Riches, and honour, and life.     finis modestiae timor Domini divitiae et gloria et vita
 
5.    Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.     Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.     צנים  פחים  בדרך 
עקש  שומר  נפשו
ירחק  מהם׃
    TShNYM PhChYM BDUrK 'yQSh ShVMUr NPhShV YUrChQ MHM.     Thorns -- snares are in the way of the perverse, Whoso is keeping his soul is far from them.     arma et gladii in via perversi custos animae suae longe recedit ab eis
 
6.    Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.     Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.     חנך  לנער  על־פי

    ChNK LN'yUr 'yL-PhY DUrKV GM KY-YZQYN L'a-YSVUr MMNH.     Give instruction to a youth about his way, Even when he is old he turneth not from it.     proverbium est adulescens iuxta viam suam etiam cum senuerit non recedet ab ea
 
7.    The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.     The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.     עשיר  ברשים  ימשול 
ועבד  לוה  לאיש
מלוה׃
    'yShYUr BUrShYM YMShVL V'yBD LVH L'aYSh MLVH.     The rich over the poor ruleth, And a servant is the borrower to the lender.     dives pauperibus imperat et qui accipit mutuum servus est fenerantis
 
8.    He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.     He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.     זורע  עולה 
יקצור־און  ושבט
עברתו  יכלה׃
    ZVUr'y 'yVLH YQTShVUr-'aVN VShBT 'yBUrThV YKLH.     Whoso is sowing perverseness reapeth sorrow, And the rod of his anger weareth out.     qui seminat iniquitatem metet mala et virga irae suae consummabitur
 
9.    He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.     He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.     טוב־עין  הוא  יברך 
כי־נתן  מלחמו  לדל׃
    TVB-'yYN HV'a YBUrK KY-NThN MLChMV LDL.     The good of eye -- he is blessed, For he hath given of his bread to the poor.     qui pronus est ad misericordiam benedicetur de panibus enim suis dedit pauperi
 
10.    Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.     Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.     גרש  לץ  ויצא  מדון 
וישבת  דין  וקלון׃
    GUrSh LTSh VYTSh'a MDVN VYShBTh DYN VQLVN.     Cast out a scorner -- and contention goeth out, And strife and shame cease.     eice derisorem et exibit cum eo iurgium cessabuntque causae et contumeliae
 
11.    He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king's friend.     He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.     אהב  טהור־לב  חן 
שפתיו  רעהו  מלך׃
    'aHB THVUr-LB ChN ShPhThYV Ur'yHV MLK.     Whoso is loving cleanness of heart, Grace are his lips, a king is his friend.     qui diligit cordis munditiam propter gratiam labiorum suorum habebit amicum regem
 
12.    The eyes of Yahweh watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.     The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.     עיני  יהוה  נצרו 
דעת  ויסלף  דברי
בגד׃
    'yYNY YHVH NTShUrV D'yTh VYSLPh DBUrY BGD.     The eyes of Jehovah have kept knowledge, And He overthroweth the words of the treacherous.     oculi Domini custodiunt scientiam et subplantantur verba iniqui
 
13.    The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!"     The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.     אמר  עצל  ארי  בחוץ 
בתוך  רחבות  ארצח׃
    'aMUr 'yTShL 'aUrY BChVTSh BThVK UrChBVTh 'aUrTShCh.     The slothful hath said, `A lion is without, In the midst of the broad places I am slain.`     dicit piger leo foris in medio platearum occidendus sum
 
14.    The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Yahweh's wrath will fall into it.     The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.     שוחה  עמקה  פי  זרות 
זעום  יהוה
יפול־שם׃
    ShVChH 'yMQH PhY ZUrVTh Z'yVM YHVH YPhVL-ShM.     A deep pit is the mouth of strange women, The abhorred of Jehovah falleth there.     fovea profunda os alienae cui iratus est Dominus incidet in eam
 
15.    Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.     Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.     אולת  קשורה 
בלב־נער  שבט  מוסר
ירחיקנה  ממנו׃
    'aVLTh QShVUrH BLB-N'yUr ShBT MVSUr YUrChYQNH MMNV.     Folly is bound up in the heart of a youth, The rod of chastisement putteth it far from him.     stultitia conligata est in corde pueri et virga disciplinae fugabit eam
 
16.    Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.     He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.     עשק  דל  להרבות  לו 
נתן  לעשיר
אך־למחסור׃
    'yShQ DL LHUrBVTh LV NThN L'yShYUr 'aK-LMChSVUr.     He is oppressing the poor to multiply to him, He is giving to the rich -- only to want.     qui calumniatur pauperem ut augeat divitias suas dabit ipse ditiori et egebit
 
17.    Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.     Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.     הט  אזנך  ושמע  דברי 
חכמים  ולבך  תשית
לדעתי׃
    HT 'aZNK VShM'y DBUrY ChKMYM VLBK ThShYTh LD'yThY.     Incline thine ear, and hear words of the wise, And thy heart set to my knowledge,     inclina aurem tuam et audi verba sapientium adpone autem cor ad doctrinam meam
 
18.    For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.     For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.     כי־נעים  כי־תשמרם 
בבטנך  יכנו  יחדו
על־שפתיך׃
    KY-N'yYM KY-ThShMUrM BBTNK YKNV YChDV 'yL-ShPhThYK.     For they are pleasant when thou dost keep them in thy heart, They are prepared together for thy lips.     quae pulchra erit tibi cum servaveris eam in ventre tuo et redundabit in labiis tuis
 
19.    That your trust may be in Yahweh, I teach you today, even you.     That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.     להיות  ביהוה  מבטחך 
הודעתיך  היום
אף־אתה׃
    LHYVTh BYHVH MBTChK HVD'yThYK HYVM 'aPh-'aThH.     That thy trust may be in Jehovah, I caused thee to know to-day, even thou.     ut sit in Domino fiducia tua unde et ostendi eam tibi hodie
 
20.    Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,     Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,     הלא  כתבתי  לך 
שלשום  במעצות
ודעת׃
    HL'a KThBThY LK ShLShVM BM'yTShVTh VD'yTh.     Have I not written to thee three times With counsels and knowledge?     ecce descripsi eam tibi tripliciter in cogitationibus et scientia
 
21.    To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?     That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?     להודיעך  קשט  אמרי 
אמת  להשיב  אמרים
אמת  לשלחיך׃
    LHVDY'yK QShT 'aMUrY 'aMTh LHShYB 'aMUrYM 'aMTh LShLChYK.     To cause thee to know the certainty of sayings of truth, To return sayings of truth to those sending thee.     ut ostenderem tibi firmitatem et eloquia veritatis respondere ex his illi qui misit te
 
22.    Don't exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don't crush the needy in court;     Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:     אל־תגזל־דל  כי 
דל־הוא  ואל־תדכא
עני  בשער׃
    'aL-ThGZL-DL KY DL-HV'a V'aL-ThDK'a 'yNY BSh'yUr.     Rob not the poor because he is poor, And bruise not the afflicted in the gate.     non facias violentiam pauperi quia pauper est neque conteras egenum in porta
 
23.    for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.     For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.     כי־יהוה  יריב  ריבם 
וקבע  את־קבעיהם
נפש׃
    KY-YHVH YUrYB UrYBM VQB'y 'aTh-QB'yYHM NPhSh.     For Jehovah pleadeth their cause, And hath spoiled the soul of their spoilers.     quia Dominus iudicabit causam eius et configet eos qui confixerint animam eius
 
24.    Don't befriend a hot-tempered man, and don't associate with one who harbors anger:     Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:     אל־תתרע  את־בעל  אף 
ואת־איש  חמות  לא
תבוא׃
    'aL-ThThUr'y 'aTh-B'yL 'aPh V'aTh-'aYSh ChMVTh L'a ThBV'a.     Shew not thyself friendly with an angry man, And with a man of fury go not in,     noli esse amicus homini iracundo neque ambules cum viro furioso
 
25.    lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.     Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.     פן־תאלף  ארחתו 
ולקחת  מוקש  לנפשך׃
    PhN-Th'aLPh 'aUrChThV VLQChTh MVQSh LNPhShK.     Lest thou learn his paths, And have received a snare to thy soul.     ne forte discas semitas eius et sumas scandalum animae tuae
 
26.    Don't you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.     Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.     אל־תהי  בתקעי־כף 
בערבים  משאות׃
    'aL-ThHY BThQ'yY-KPh B'yUrBYM MSh'aVTh.     Be not thou among those striking hands, Among sureties for burdens.     noli esse cum his qui defigunt manus suas et qui vades se offerunt pro debitis
 
27.    If you don't have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?     If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?     אם־אין־לך  לשלם 
למה  יקח  משכבך
מתחתיך׃
    'aM-'aYN-LK LShLM LMH YQCh MShKBK MThChThYK.     If thou hast nothing to pay, Why doth he take thy bed from under thee?     si enim non habes unde restituas quid causae est ut tollat operimentum de cubili tuo
 
28.    Don't move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.     Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.     אל־תסג  גבול  עולם 
אשר  עשו  אבותיך׃
    'aL-ThSG GBVL 'yVLM 'aShUr 'yShV 'aBVThYK.     Remove not a border of olden times, That thy fathers have made.     ne transgrediaris terminos antiquos quos posuerunt patres tui
 
29.    Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won't serve obscure men.     Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.     חזית  איש  מהיר
