1.    Don't be envious of evil men; neither desire to be with them:     Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.     אל־תקנא  באנשי  רעה 
ואל־תתאו  להיות
אתם׃
    'aL-ThQN'a B'aNShY Ur'yH V'aL-ThTh'aV LHYVTh 'aThM.     Be not envious of evil men, And desire not to be with them.     ne aemuleris viros malos nec desideres esse cum eis
 
2.    for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about mischief.     For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.     כי־שד  יהגה  לבם 
ועמל  שפתיהם
תדברנה׃
    KY-ShD YHGH LBM V'yML ShPhThYHM ThDBUrNH.     For destruction doth their heart meditate, And perverseness do their lips speak.     quia rapinas meditatur mens eorum et fraudes labia eorum loquuntur
 
3.    Through wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established;     Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:     בחכמה  יבנה  בית 
ובתבונה  יתכונן׃
    BChKMH YBNH BYTh VBThBVNH YThKVNN.     By wisdom is a house builded, And by understanding it establisheth itself.     sapientia aedificabitur domus et prudentia roborabitur
 
4.    by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.     And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.     ובדעת  חדרים  ימלאו 
כל־הון  יקר  ונעים׃
    VBD'yTh ChDUrYM YML'aV KL-HVN YQUr VN'yYM.     And by knowledge the inner parts are filled, With all precious and pleasant wealth.     in doctrina replebuntur cellaria universa substantia pretiosa et pulcherrima
 
5.    A wise man has great power; and a knowledgeable man increases strength;     A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.     גבר־חכם  בעוז 
ואיש־דעת  מאמץ־כח׃
    GBUr-ChKM B'yVZ V'aYSh-D'yTh M'aMTSh-KCh.     Mighty is the wise in strength, And a man of knowledge is strengthening power,     vir sapiens et fortis est et vir doctus robustus et validus
 
6.    for by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors.     For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.     כי  בתחבלות 
תעשה־לך  מלחמה
ותשועה  ברב  יועץ׃
    KY BThChBLVTh Th'yShH-LK MLChMH VThShV'yH BUrB YV'yTSh.     For by plans thou makest for thyself war, And deliverance is in a multitude of counsellors.     quia cum dispositione initur bellum et erit salus ubi multa consilia sunt
 
7.    Wisdom is too high for a fool: he doesn't open his mouth in the gate.     Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.     ראמות  לאויל  חכמות 
בשער  לא
יפתח־פיהו׃
    Ur'aMVTh L'aVYL ChKMVTh BSh'yUr L'a YPhThCh-PhYHV.     Wisdom is high for a fool, In the gate he openeth not his mouth.     excelsa stulto sapientia in porta non aperiet os suum
 
8.    One who plots to do evil will be called a schemer.     He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.     מחשב  להרע  לו 
בעל־מזמות  יקראו׃
    MChShB LHUr'y LV B'yL-MZMVTh YQUr'aV.     Whoso is devising to do evil, Him they call a master of wicked thoughts.     qui cogitat malefacere stultus vocabitur
 
9.    The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.     The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.     זמת  אולת  חטאת 
ותועבת  לאדם  לץ׃
    ZMTh 'aVLTh ChT'aTh VThV'yBTh L'aDM LTSh.     The thought of folly is sin, And an abomination to man is a scorner.     cogitatio stulti peccatum est et abominatio hominum detractor
 
10.    If you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small.     If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.     התרפית  ביום  צרה 
צר  כחכה׃
    HThUrPhYTh BYVM TShUrH TShUr KChKH.     Thou hast shewed thyself weak in a day of adversity, Straitened is thy power,     si desperaveris lassus in die angustiae inminuetur fortitudo tua
 
11.    Rescue those who are being led away to death! Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter!     If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;     הצל  לקחים  למות 
ומטים  להרג
אם־תחשוך׃
    HTShL LQChYM LMVTh VMTYM LHUrG 'aM-ThChShVK.     If from delivering those taken to death, And those slipping to the slaughter -- thou keepest back.     erue eos qui ducuntur ad mortem et qui trahuntur ad interitum liberare ne cesses
 
12.    If you say, "Behold, we didn't know this;" doesn't he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn't he know it? Shall he not render to every man according to his work?     If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?     כי־תאמר  הן 
לא־ידענו  זה
הלא־תכן  לבות
הוא־יבין  ונצר
נפשך  הוא  ידע
והשיב  לאדם  כפעלו׃
    KY-Th'aMUr HN L'a-YD'yNV ZH HL'a-ThKN LBVTh HV'a-YBYN VNTShUr NPhShK HV'a YD'y VHShYB L'aDM KPh'yLV.     When thou sayest, `Lo, we knew not this.` Is not the Ponderer of hearts He who understandeth? And the Keeper of thy soul He who knoweth? And He hath rendered to man according to his work.     si dixeris vires non suppetunt qui inspector est cordis ipse intellegit et servatorem animae tuae nihil fallit reddetque homini iuxta opera sua
 
13.    My son, eat honey, for it is good; the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste:     My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:     אכל־בני  דבש 
כי־טוב  ונפת  מתוק
על־חכך׃
    'aKL-BNY DBSh KY-TVB VNPhTh MThVQ 'yL-ChKK.     Eat my son, honey that is good, And the honeycomb -- sweet to thy palate.     comede fili mi mel quia bonum est et favum dulcissimum gutturi tuo
 
14.    so you shall know wisdom to be to your soul; if you have found it, then there will be a reward, your hope will not be cut off.     So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.     כן  דעה  חכמה  לנפשך 
אם־מצאת  ויש  אחרית
ותקותך  לא  תכרת׃
    KN D'yH ChKMH LNPhShK 'aM-MTSh'aTh VYSh 'aChUrYTh VThQVThK L'a ThKUrTh.     So is the knowledge of wisdom to thy soul, If thou hast found that there is a posterity And thy hope is not cut off.     sic et doctrina sapientiae animae tuae quam cum inveneris habebis in novissimis et spes tua non peribit
 
15.    Don't lay in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Don't destroy his resting place:     Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:     אל־תארב  רשע  לנוה 
צדיק  אל־תשדד
רבצו׃
    'aL-Th'aUrB UrSh'y LNVH TShDYQ 'aL-ThShDD UrBTShV.     Lay not wait, O wicked one, At the habitation of the righteous. Do not spoil his resting-place.     ne insidieris et quaeras impietatem in domo iusti neque vastes requiem eius
 
16.    for a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.     For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.     כי  שבע  יפול  צדיק 
וקם  ורשעים  יכשלו
ברעה׃
    KY ShB'y YPhVL TShDYQ VQM VUrSh'yYM YKShLV BUr'yH.     For seven times doth the righteous fall and rise, And the wicked stumble in evil.     septies enim cadet iustus et resurget impii autem corruent in malum
 
17.    Don't rejoice when your enemy falls. Don't let your heart be glad when he is overthrown;     Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:     בנפל  אויביך 
אל־תשמח  ובכשלו
אל־יגל  לבך׃
    BNPhL 'aVYBYK 'aL-ThShMCh VBKShLV 'aL-YGL LBK.     In the falling of thine enemy rejoice not, And in his stumbling let not thy heart be joyful,     cum ceciderit inimicus tuus ne gaudeas et in ruina eius ne exultet cor tuum
 
18.    lest Yahweh see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.     Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.     פן־יראה  יהוה  ורע 
בעיניו  והשיב
מעליו  אפו׃
    PhN-YUr'aH YHVH VUr'y B'yYNYV VHShYB M'yLYV 'aPhV.     Lest Jehovah see, and it be evil in His eyes, And He hath turned from off him His anger.     ne forte videat Dominus et displiceat ei et auferat ab eo iram suam
 
19.    Don't fret yourself because of evildoers; neither be envious of the wicked:     Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;     אל־תתחר  במרעים 
אל־תקנא  ברשעים׃
    'aL-ThThChUr BMUr'yYM 'aL-ThQN'a BUrSh'yYM.     Fret not thyself at evil doers, Be not envious at the wicked,     ne contendas cum pessimis nec aemuleris impios
 
20.    for there will be no reward to the evil man; and the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out.     For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.     כי  לא־תהיה  אחרית 
לרע  נר  רשעים
ידעך׃
    KY L'a-ThHYH 'aChUrYTh LUr'y NUr UrSh'yYM YD'yK.     For there is not a posterity to the evil, The lamp of the wicked is extinguished.     quoniam non habent futurorum spem mali et lucerna impiorum extinguetur
 
21.    My son, fear Yahweh and the king. Don't join those who are rebellious:     My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:     ירא־את־יהוה  בני 
ומלך  עם־שונים
אל־תתערב׃
    YUr'a-'aTh-YHVH BNY VMLK 'yM-ShVNYM 'aL-ThTh'yUrB.     Fear Jehovah, my son, and the king, With changers mix not up thyself,     time Dominum fili mi et regem et cum detractoribus non commiscearis
 
22.    for their calamity will rise suddenly; the destruction from them both--who knows?     For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?     כי־פתאם  יקום  אידם 
ופיד  שניהם  מי
יודע׃
    KY-PhTh'aM YQVM 'aYDM VPhYD ShNYHM MY YVD'y.     For suddenly doth their calamity rise, And the ruin of them both -- who knoweth!     quoniam repente consurget perditio eorum et ruinam utriusque quis novit
 
23.    These also are sayings of the wise. To show partiality in judgment is not good.     These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.     גם־אלה  לחכמים 
הכר־פנים  במשפט
בל־טוב׃
    GM-'aLH LChKMYM HKUr-PhNYM BMShPhT BL-TVB.     These also are for the wise: -- To discern faces in judgment is not good.     haec quoque sapientibus cognoscere personam in iudicio non est bonum
 
24.    He who says to the wicked, "You are righteous;" peoples shall curse him, and nations shall abhor him--     He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:     אמר  לרשע  צדיק  אתה 
יקבהו  עמים
יזעמוהו  לאמים׃
    'aMUr LUrSh'y TShDYQ 'aThH YQBHV 'yMYM YZ'yMVHV L'aMYM.     Whoso is saying to the wicked, `Thou art righteous,` Peoples execrate him -- nations abhor him.     qui dicit impio iustus es maledicent ei populi et detestabuntur eum tribus
 
25.    but it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and a rich blessing will come on them.     But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.     ולמוכיחים  ינעם 
ועליהם  תבוא
ברכת־טוב׃
    VLMVKYChYM YN'yM V'yLYHM ThBV'a BUrKTh-TVB.     And to those reproving it is pleasant, And on them cometh a good blessing.     qui arguunt laudabuntur et super ipsos veniet benedictio
 
26.    An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.     Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.     שפתים  ישק  משיב 
דברים  נכחים׃
    ShPhThYM YShQ MShYB DBUrYM NKChYM.     Lips he kisseth who is returning straightforward words.     labia deosculabitur qui recta verba respondet
 
27.    Prepare your work outside, and get your fields ready. Afterwards, build your house.     Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.     הכן  בחוץ  מלאכתך 
ועתדה  בשדה  לך  אחר
ובנית  ביתך׃
    HKN BChVTSh ML'aKThK V'yThDH BShDH LK 'aChUr VBNYTh BYThK.     Prepare in an out-place thy work, And make it ready in the field -- go afterwards, Then thou hast built thy house.     praepara foris opus tuum et diligenter exerce agrum tuum ut postea aedifices domum tuam
 
28.    Don't be a witness against your neighbor without cause. Don't deceive with your lips.     Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.     אל־תהי  עד־חנם 
ברעך  והפתית
בשפתיך׃
    'aL-ThHY 'yD-ChNM BUr'yK VHPhThYTh BShPhThYK.     Be not a witness for nought against thy neighbour, Or thou hast enticed with thy lips.     ne sis testis frustra contra proximum tuum nec lactes quemquam labiis tuis
 
29.    Don't say, "I will do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work."     Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.     אל־תאמר  כאשר 
עשה־לי  כן  אעשה־לו
אשיב  לאיש  כפעלו׃
    'aL-Th'aMUr K'aShUr 'yShH-LY KN 'a'yShH-LV 'aShYB L'aYSh KPh'yLV.     Say not, `As he did to me, so I do to him, I render to each according to his work.`     ne dicas quomodo fecit mihi sic faciam ei reddam unicuique secundum opus suum
 
30.    I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;     I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;     על־שדה  איש־עצל 
עברתי  ועל־כרם  אדם
חסר־לב׃
    'yL-ShDH 'aYSh-'yTShL 'yBUrThY V'yL-KUrM 'aDM ChSUr-LB.     Near the field of a slothful man I passed by, And near the vineyard of a man lacking heart.     per agrum hominis pigri transivi et per vineam viri stulti
 
31.    Behold, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.     And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.     והנה  עלה  כלו 
קמשנים  כסו  פניו
חרלים  וגדר  אבניו
נהרסה׃
    VHNH 'yLH KLV QMShNYM KSV PhNYV ChUrLYM VGDUr 'aBNYV NHUrSH.     And lo, it hath gone up -- all of it -- thorns! Covered its face have nettles, And its stone wall hath been broken down.     et ecce totum repleverant urticae operuerant superficiem eius spinae et maceria lapidum destructa erat
 
32.    Then I saw, and considered well. I saw, and received instruction:     Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.     ואחזה  אנכי  אשית 
לבי  ראיתי  לקחתי
מוסר׃
    V'aChZH 'aNKY 'aShYTh LBY Ur'aYThY LQChThY MVSUr.     And I see -- I -- I do set my heart, I have seen -- I have received instruction,     quod cum vidissem posui in corde meo et exemplo didici disciplinam
 
33.    a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep;     Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:     מעט  שנות  מעט 
תנומות  מעט  חבק
ידים  לשכב׃
    M'yT ShNVTh M'yT ThNVMVTh M'yT ChBQ YDYM LShKB.     A little sleep -- a little slumber -- A little folding of the hands to lie down.     parum inquam dormies modicum dormitabis pauxillum manus conseres ut quiescas
 
34.    so your poverty will come as a robber, and your want as an armed man.     So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.     ובא־מתהלך  רישך 
ומחסריך  כאיש  מגן׃
    VB'a-MThHLK UrYShK VMChSUrYK K'aYSh MGN.     And thy poverty hath come as a traveller, And thy want as an armed man!     et veniet quasi cursor egestas tua et mendicitas quasi vir armatus
