חזקיה  מלך־יהודה׃
    GM-'aLH MShLY ShLMH 'aShUr H'yThYQV 'aNShY ChZQYH MLK-YHVDH.     Also these are Proverbs of Solomon, that men of Hezekiah king of Judah transcribed: --     haec quoque parabolae Salomonis quas transtulerunt viri Ezechiae regis Iuda
 
2.    It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.     It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.     כבד  אלהים  הסתר 
דבר  וכבד  מלכים
חקר  דבר׃
    KBD 'aLHYM HSThUr DBUr VKBD MLKYM ChQUr DBUr.     The honour of God is to hide a thing, And the honour of kings to search out a matter.     gloria Dei celare verbum et gloria regum investigare sermonem
 
3.    As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.     The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.     שמים  לרום  וארץ 
לעמק  ולב  מלכים
אין  חקר׃
    ShMYM LUrVM V'aUrTSh L'yMQ VLB MLKYM 'aYN ChQUr.     The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, And the heart of kings -- are unsearchable.     caelum sursum et terra deorsum et cor regum inscrutabile
 
4.    Take away the dross from the silver, and material comes out for the refiner;     Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.     הגו  סיגים  מכסף 
ויצא  לצרף  כלי׃
    HGV SYGYM MKSPh VYTSh'a LTShUrPh KLY.     Take away dross from silver, And a vessel for the refiner goeth forth,     aufer robiginem de argento et egredietur vas purissimum
 
5.    Take away the wicked from the king's presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.     Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.     הגו  רשע  לפני־מלך 
ויכון  בצדק  כסאו׃
    HGV UrSh'y LPhNY-MLK VYKVN BTShDQ KS'aV.     Take away the wicked before a king, And established in righteousness is his throne.     aufer impietatem de vultu regis et firmabitur iustitia thronus eius
 
6.    Don't exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men;     Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:     אל־תתהדר  לפני־מלך 
ובמקום  גדלים
אל־תעמד׃
    'aL-ThThHDUr LPhNY-MLK VBMQVM GDLYM 'aL-Th'yMD.     Honour not thyself before a king, And in the place of the great stand not.     ne gloriosus appareas coram rege et in loco magnorum ne steteris
 
7.    for it is better that it be said to you, "Come up here," than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen.     For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.     כי  טוב  אמר־לך  עלה 
הנה  מהשפילך  לפני
נדיב  אשר  ראו
עיניך׃
    KY TVB 'aMUr-LK 'yLH HNH MHShPhYLK LPhNY NDYB 'aShUr Ur'aV 'yYNYK.     For better that he hath said to thee, `Come thou up hither,` Than that he humble thee before a noble, Whom thine eyes have seen.     melius est enim ut dicatur tibi ascende huc quam ut humilieris coram principe
 
8.    Don't be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?     Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.     אל־תצא  לרב  מהר  פן 
מה־תעשה  באחריתה
בהכלים  אתך  רעך׃
    'aL-ThTSh'a LUrB MHUr PhN MH-Th'yShH B'aChUrYThH BHKLYM 'aThK Ur'yK.     Go not forth to strive, haste, turn, What dost thou in its latter end, When thy neighbour causeth thee to blush?     quae viderunt oculi tui ne proferas in iurgio cito ne postea emendare non possis cum dehonestaveris amicum tuum
 
9.    Debate your case with your neighbor, and don't betray the confidence of another;     Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:     ריבך  ריב  את־רעך 
וסוד  אחר  אל־תגל׃
    UrYBK UrYB 'aTh-Ur'yK VSVD 'aChUr 'aL-ThGL.     Thy cause plead with thy neighbour, And the secret counsel of another reveal not,     causam tuam tracta cum amico tuo et secretum extraneo non reveles
 
10.    lest one who hears it put you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart.     Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.     פן־יחסדך  שמע 
ודבתך  לא  תשוב׃
    PhN-YChSDK ShM'y VDBThK L'a ThShVB.     Lest the hearer put thee to shame, And thine evil report turn not back.     ne forte insultet tibi cum audierit et exprobrare non cesset
 
11.    A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.     A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.     תפוחי  זהב  במשכיות

על־אפניו׃
    ThPhVChY ZHB BMShKYVTh KSPh DBUr DBUr 'yL-'aPhNYV.     Apples of gold in imagery of silver, Is the word spoken at its fit times.     mala aurea in lectis argenteis qui loquitur verbum in tempore suo
 
12.    As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.     As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.     נזם  זהב  וחלי־כתם 
מוכיח  חכם  על־אזן
שמעת׃
    NZM ZHB VChLY-KThM MVKYCh ChKM 'yL-'aZN ShM'yTh.     A ring of gold, and an ornament of pure gold, Is the wise reprover to an attentive ear.     inauris aurea et margaritum fulgens qui arguit sapientem et aurem oboedientem
 
13.    As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him; for he refreshes the soul of his masters.     As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.     כצנת־שלג  ביום

    KTShNTh-ShLG BYVM QTShYUr TShYUr N'aMN LShLChYV VNPhSh 'aDNYV YShYB.     As a vessel of snow in a day of harvest, So is a faithful ambassador to those sending him, And the soul of his masters he refresheth.     sicut frigus nivis in die messis ita legatus fidelis ei qui misit eum animam illius requiescere facit
 
14.    As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.     Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.     נשיאים  ורוח  וגשם 
אין  איש  מתהלל
במתת־שקר׃
    NShY'aYM VUrVCh VGShM 'aYN 'aYSh MThHLL BMThTh-ShQUr.     Clouds and wind, and rain there is none, Is a man boasting himself in a false gift.     nubes et ventus et pluviae non sequentes vir gloriosus et promissa non conplens
 
15.    By patience a ruler is persuaded. A soft tongue breaks the bone.     By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.     בארך  אפים  יפתה 
קצין  ולשון  רכה
תשבר־גרם׃
    B'aUrK 'aPhYM YPhThH QTShYN VLShVN UrKH ThShBUr-GUrM.     By long-suffering is a ruler persuaded, And a soft tongue breaketh a bone.     patientia lenietur princeps et lingua mollis confringet duritiam
 
16.    Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you eat too much, and vomit it.     Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.     דבש  מצאת  אכל  דיך 
פן־תשבענו  והקאתו׃
    DBSh MTSh'aTh 'aKL DYK PhN-ThShB'yNV VHQ'aThV.     Honey thou hast found -- eat thy sufficiency, Lest thou be satiated with it, and hast vomited it.     mel invenisti comede quod sufficit tibi ne forte saturatus evomas illud
 
17.    Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he be weary of you, and hate you.     Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.     הקר  רגלך  מבית  רעך 
פן־ישבעך  ושנאך׃
    HQUr UrGLK MBYTh Ur'yK PhN-YShB'yK VShN'aK.     Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour`s house, Lest he be satiated with thee, and have hated thee.     subtrahe pedem tuum de domo proximi tui nequando satiatus oderit te
 
18.    A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.     A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.     מפיץ  וחרב  וחץ 
שנון  איש  ענה
ברעהו  עד  שקר׃
    MPhYTSh VChUrB VChTSh ShNVN 'aYSh 'yNH BUr'yHV 'yD ShQUr.     A maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, Is the man testifying against his neighbour a false testimony.     iaculum et gladius et sagitta acuta homo qui loquitur contra proximum suum testimonium falsum
 
19.    Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth, or a lame foot.     Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.     שן  רעה  ורגל  מועדת 
מבטח  בוגד  ביום
צרה׃
    ShN Ur'yH VUrGL MV'yDTh MBTCh BVGD BYVM TShUrH.     A bad tooth, and a tottering foot, Is the confidence of the treacherous in a day of adversity.     dens putridus et pes lapsus qui sperat super infideli in die angustiae
 
20.    As one who takes away a garment in cold weather, or vinegar on soda, so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.     As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.     מעדה  בגד  ביום  קרה 
חמץ  על־נתר  ושר
בשרים  על  לב־רע׃
    M'yDH BGD BYVM QUrH ChMTSh 'yL-NThUr VShUr BShUrYM 'yL LB-Ur'y.     Whoso is taking away a garment in a cold day, Is as vinegar on nitre, And a singer of songs on a sad heart.     et amittit pallium in die frigoris acetum in nitro et qui cantat carmina cordi pessimo
 
21.    If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink:     If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:     אם־רעב  שנאך 
האכלהו  לחם
ואם־צמא  השקהו
מים׃
    'aM-Ur'yB ShN'aK H'aKLHV LChM V'aM-TShM'a HShQHV MYM.     If he who is hating thee doth hunger, cause him to eat bread, And if he thirst, cause him to drink water.     si esurierit inimicus tuus ciba illum et si sitierit da ei aquam bibere
 
22.    for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and Yahweh will reward you.     For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.     כי  גחלים  אתה  חתה 
על־ראשו  ויהוה
ישלם־לך׃
    KY GChLYM 'aThH ChThH 'yL-Ur'aShV VYHVH YShLM-LK.     For coals thou art putting on his head, And Jehovah giveth recompense to thee.     prunam enim congregabis super caput eius et Dominus reddet tibi
 
23.    The north wind brings forth rain: so a backbiting tongue brings an angry face.     The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.     רוח  צפון  תחולל 
גשם  ופנים  נזעמים
לשון  סתר׃
    UrVCh TShPhVN ThChVLL GShM VPhNYM NZ'yMYM LShVN SThUr.     A north wind bringeth forth rain, And a secret tongue -- indignant faces.     ventus aquilo dissipat pluvias et facies tristis linguam detrahentem
 
24.    It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman.     It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.     טוב  שבת  על־פנת־גג 
מאשת  מדונים  ובית
חבר׃
    TVB ShBTh 'yL-PhNTh-GG M'aShTh MDVNYM VBYTh ChBUr.     Better to sit on a corner of a roof, Than with a woman of contentions, and a house of company.     melius est sedere in angulo domatis quam cum muliere litigiosa et in domo communi
 
25.    Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.     As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.     מים  קרים  על־נפש 
עיפה  ושמועה  טובה
מארץ  מרחק׃
    MYM QUrYM 'yL-NPhSh 'yYPhH VShMV'yH TVBH M'aUrTSh MUrChQ.     As cold waters for a weary soul, So is a good report from a far country.     aqua frigida animae sitienti et nuntius bonus de terra longinqua
 
26.    Like a muddied spring, and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.     A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.     מעין  נרפש  ומקור

    M'yYN NUrPhSh VMQVUr MShChTh TShDYQ MT LPhNY-UrSh'y.     A spring troubled, and a fountain corrupt, Is the righteous falling before the wicked.     fons turbatus pede et vena corrupta iustus cadens coram impio
 
27.    It is not good to eat much honey; nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor.     It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.     אכל  דבש  הרבות 
לא־טוב  וחקר  כבדם
כבוד׃
    'aKL DBSh HUrBVTh L'a-TVB VChQUr KBDM KBVD.     The eating of much honey is not good, Nor a searching out of one`s own honour -- honour.     sicut qui mel multum comedit non est ei bonum sic qui scrutator est maiestatis opprimitur gloria
 
28.    Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man whose spirit is without restraint.     He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.     עיר  פרוצה  אין

    'yYUr PhUrVTShH 'aYN ChVMH 'aYSh 'aShUr 'aYN M'yTShUr LUrVChV.     A city broken down without walls, Is a man without restraint over his spirit!     sicut urbs patens et absque murorum ambitu ita vir qui non potest in loquendo cohibere spiritum suum
