1.    Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool.     As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.     כשלג  בקיץ  וכמטר

    KShLG BQYTSh VKMTUr BQTShYUr KN L'a-N'aVH LKSYL KBVD.     As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honour is not comely for a fool.     quomodo nix aestate et pluvia in messe sic indecens est stulto gloria
 
2.    Like a fluttering sparrow, like a darting swallow, so the undeserved curse doesn't come to rest.     As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.     כצפור  לנוד  כדרור 
לעוף  כן  קללת  חנם
לא  תבא׃
    KTShPhVUr LNVD KDUrVUr L'yVPh KN QLLTh ChNM L'a ThB'a.     As a bird by wandering, as a swallow by flying, So reviling without cause doth not come.     sicut avis ad alia transvolans et passer quolibet vadens sic maledictum frustra prolatum in quempiam superveniet
 
3.    A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools!     A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.     שוט  לסוס  מתג 
לחמור  ושבט  לגו
כסילים׃
    ShVT LSVS MThG LChMVUr VShBT LGV KSYLYM.     A whip is for a horse, a bridle for an ass, And a rod for the back of fools.     flagellum equo et camus asino et virga dorso inprudentium
 
4.    Don't answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him.     Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.     אל־תען  כסיל 
כאולתו  פן־תשוה־לו
גם־אתה׃
    'aL-Th'yN KSYL K'aVLThV PhN-ThShVH-LV GM-'aThH.     Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou be like to him -- even thou.     ne respondeas stulto iuxta stultitiam suam ne efficiaris ei similis
 
5.    Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.     Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.     ענה  כסיל  כאולתו 
פן־יהיה  חכם
בעיניו׃
    'yNH KSYL K'aVLThV PhN-YHYH ChKM B'yYNYV.     Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.     responde stulto iuxta stultitiam suam ne sibi sapiens esse videatur
 
6.    One who sends a message by the hand of a fool is cutting off feet and drinking violence.     He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.     מקצה  רגלים  חמס 
שתה  שלח  דברים
ביד־כסיל׃
    MQTShH UrGLYM ChMS ShThH ShLCh DBUrYM BYD-KSYL.     He is cutting off feet, he is drinking injury, Who is sending things by the hand of a fool.     claudus pedibus et iniquitatem bibens qui mittit verba per nuntium stultum
 
7.    Like the legs of the lame that hang loose: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.     The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.     דליו  שקים  מפסח 
ומשל  בפי  כסילים׃
    DLYV ShQYM MPhSCh VMShL BPhY KSYLYM.     Weak have been the two legs of the lame, And a parable in the mouth of fools.     quomodo pulchras frustra habet claudus tibias sic indecens est in ore stultorum parabola
 
8.    As one who binds a stone in a sling, so is he who gives honor to a fool.     As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.     כצרור  אבן  במרגמה 
כן־נותן  לכסיל
כבוד׃
    KTShUrVUr 'aBN BMUrGMH KN-NVThN LKSYL KBVD.     As one who is binding a stone in a sling, So is he who is giving honour to a fool.     sicut qui mittit lapidem in acervum Mercurii ita qui tribuit insipienti honorem
 
9.    Like a thornbush that goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.     As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.     חוח  עלה  ביד־שכור 
ומשל  בפי  כסילים׃
    ChVCh 'yLH BYD-ShKVUr VMShL BPhY KSYLYM.     A thorn hath gone up into the hand of a drunkard, And a parable in the mouth of fools.     quomodo si spina nascatur in manu temulenti sic parabola in ore stultorum
 
10.    As an archer who wounds all, so is he who hires a fool or he who hires those who pass by.     The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.     רב  מחולל־כל  ושכר 
כסיל  ושכר  עברים׃
    UrB MChVLL-KL VShKUr KSYL VShKUr 'yBUrYM.     Great is the Former of all, And He is rewarding a fool, And is rewarding transgressors.     iudicium determinat causas et qui inponit stulto silentium iras mitigat
 
11.    As a dog that returns to his vomit, so is a fool who repeats his folly.     As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.     ככלב  שב  על־קאו 
כסיל  שונה  באולתו׃
    KKLB ShB 'yL-Q'aV KSYL ShVNH B'aVLThV.     As a dog hath returned to its vomit, A fool is repeating his folly.     sicut canis qui revertitur ad vomitum suum sic inprudens qui iterat stultitiam suam
 
12.    Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.     Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.     ראית  איש  חכם 
בעיניו  תקוה  לכסיל
ממנו׃
    Ur'aYTh 'aYSh ChKM B'yYNYV ThQVH LKSYL MMNV.     Thou hast seen a man wise in his own eyes, More hope of a fool than of him!     vidisti hominem sapientem sibi videri magis illo spem habebit stultus
 
13.    The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion roams the streets!"     The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.     אמר  עצל  שחל  בדרך 
ארי  בין  הרחבות׃
    'aMUr 'yTShL ShChL BDUrK 'aUrY BYN HUrChBVTh.     The slothful hath said, `A lion is in the way, A lion is in the broad places.`     dicit piger leaena in via leo in itineribus
 
14.    As the door turns on its hinges, so does the sluggard on his bed.     As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.     הדלת  תסוב  על־צירה 
ועצל  על־מטתו׃
    HDLTh ThSVB 'yL-TShYUrH V'yTShL 'yL-MTThV.     The door turneth round on its hinge, And the slothful on his bed.     sicut ostium vertitur in cardine suo ita piger in lectulo suo
 
15.    The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.     The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.     טמן  עצל  ידו  בצלחת 
נלאה  להשיבה
אל־פיו׃
    TMN 'yTShL YDV BTShLChTh NL'aH LHShYBH 'aL-PhYV.     The slothful hath hid his hand in a dish, He is weary of bringing it back to his mouth.     abscondit piger manus sub ascellas suas et laborat si ad os suum eas converterit
 
16.    The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer with discretion.     The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.     חכם  עצל  בעיניו 
משבעה  משיבי  טעם׃
    ChKM 'yTShL B'yYNYV MShB'yH MShYBY T'yM.     Wiser is the slothful in his own eyes, Than seven men returning a reason.     sapientior sibi piger videtur septem viris loquentibus sententias
 
17.    Like one who grabs a dog's ears is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.     He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.     מחזיק  באזני־כלב 
עבר  מתעבר  על־ריב
לא־לו׃
    MChZYQ B'aZNY-KLB 'yBUr MTh'yBUr 'yL-UrYB L'a-LV.     Laying hold on the ears of a dog, Is a passer-by making himself wrath for strife not his own.     sicut qui adprehendit auribus canem sic qui transit et inpatiens commiscetur rixae alterius
 
18.    Like a madman who shoots torches, arrows, and death,     As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,     כמתלהלה  הירה  זקים 
חצים  ומות׃
    KMThLHLH HYUrH ZQYM ChTShYM VMVTh.     As one pretending to be feeble, Who is casting sparks, arrows, and death,     sicut noxius est qui mittit lanceas et sagittas et mortem
 
19.    is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, "Am I not joking?"     So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?     כן־איש  רמה 
את־רעהו  ואמר
הלא־משחק  אני׃
    KN-'aYSh UrMH 'aTh-Ur'yHV V'aMUr HL'a-MShChQ 'aNY.     So hath a man deceived his neighbour, And hath said, `Am not I playing?`     sic vir qui fraudulenter nocet amico suo et cum fuerit deprehensus dicit ludens feci
 
20.    For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down.     Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.     באפס  עצים  תכבה־אש 
ובאין  נרגן  ישתק
מדון׃
    B'aPhS 'yTShYM ThKBH-'aSh VB'aYN NUrGN YShThQ MDVN.     Without wood is fire going out, And without a tale-bearer, contention ceaseth,     cum defecerint ligna extinguetur ignis et susurrone subtracto iurgia conquiescunt
 
21.    As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife.     As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.     פחם  לגחלים  ועצים 
לאש  ואיש  מדונים
לחרחר־ריב׃
    PhChM LGChLYM V'yTShYM L'aSh V'aYSh MDVNYM LChUrChUr-UrYB.     Coal to burning coals, and wood to fire, And a man of contentions to kindle strife.     sicut carbones ad prunam et ligna ad ignem sic homo iracundus suscitat rixas
 
22.    The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, they go down into the innermost parts.     The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.     דברי  נרגן 
כמתלהמים  והם  ירדו
חדרי־בטן׃
    DBUrY NUrGN KMThLHMYM VHM YUrDV ChDUrY-BTN.     The words of a tale-bearer are as self-inflicted wounds, And they have gone down to the inner parts of the heart.     verba susurronis quasi simplicia et ipsa perveniunt ad intima ventris
 
23.    Like silver dross on an earthen vessel are the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart.     Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.     כסף  סיגים  מצפה 
על־חרש  שפתים
דלקים  ולב־רע׃
    KSPh SYGYM MTShPhH 'yL-ChUrSh ShPhThYM DLQYM VLB-Ur'y.     Silver of dross spread over potsherd, Are burning lips and an evil heart.     quomodo si argento sordido ornare velis vas fictile sic labia tumentia cum pessimo corde sociata
 
24.    A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but he harbors evil in his heart.     He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;     בשפתו  ינכר  שונא 
ובקרבו  ישית  מרמה׃
    BShPhThV YNKUr ShVN'a VBQUrBV YShYTh MUrMH.     By his lips doth a hater dissemble, And in his heart he placeth deceit,     labiis suis intellegitur inimicus cum in corde tractaverit dolos
 
25.    When his speech is charming, don't believe him; for there are seven abominations in his heart.     When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.     כי־יחנן  קולו 
אל־תאמן־בו  כי  שבע
תועבות  בלבו׃
    KY-YChNN QVLV 'aL-Th'aMN-BV KY ShB'y ThV'yBVTh BLBV.     When his voice is gracious trust not in him, For seven abominations are in his heart.     quando submiserit vocem suam ne credideris ei quoniam septem nequitiae sunt in corde illius
 
26.    His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.     Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.     תכסה  שנאה  במשאון 
תגלה  רעתו  בקהל׃
    ThKSH ShN'aH BMSh'aVN ThGLH Ur'yThV BQHL.     Hatred is covered by deceit, Revealed is its wickedness in an assembly.     qui operit odium fraudulenter revelabitur malitia eius in concilio
 
27.    Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it. Whoever rolls a stone, it will come back on him.     Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.     כרה־שחת  בה  יפל 
וגלל  אבן  אליו
תשוב׃
    KUrH-ShChTh BH YPhL VGLL 'aBN 'aLYV ThShVB.     Whoso is digging a pit falleth into it, And the roller of a stone, to him it turneth.     qui fodit foveam incidet in eam et qui volvit lapidem revertetur ad eum
 
28.    A lying tongue hates those it hurts; and a flattering mouth works ruin.     A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.     לשון־שקר  ישנא 
דכיו  ופה  חלק  יעשה
מדחה׃
    LShVN-ShQUr YShN'a DKYV VPhH ChLQ Y'yShH MDChH.     A lying tongue hateth its bruised ones, And a flattering mouth worketh an overthrow!     lingua fallax non amat veritatem et os lubricum operatur ruinas
