1.    Don't boast about tomorrow; for you don't know what a day may bring forth.     Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.     אל־תתהלל  ביום  מחר

2.    Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.     Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.     יהללך  זר  ולא־פיך 
נכרי  ואל־שפתיך׃
    YHLLK ZUr VL'a-PhYK NKUrY V'aL-ShPhThYK.     Let another praise thee, and not thine own mouth, A stranger, and not thine own lips.     laudet te alienus et non os tuum extraneus et non labia tua
 
3.    A stone is heavy, and sand is a burden; but a fool's provocation is heavier than both.     A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.     כבד־אבן  ונטל  החול 
וכעס  אויל  כבד
משניהם׃
    KBD-'aBN VNTL HChVL VK'yS 'aVYL KBD MShNYHM.     A stone is heavy, and the sand is heavy, And the anger of a fool Is heavier than they both.     grave est saxum et onerosa harena sed ira stulti utroque gravior
 
4.    Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?     Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?     אכזריות  חמה  ושטף 
אף  ומי  יעמד  לפני
קנאה׃
    'aKZUrYVTh ChMH VShTPh 'aPh VMY Y'yMD LPhNY QN'aH.     Fury is fierce, and anger is overflowing, And who standeth before jealousy?     ira non habet misericordiam nec erumpens furor et impetum concitati ferre quis poterit
 
5.    Better is open rebuke than hidden love.     Open rebuke is better than secret love.     טובה  תוכחת  מגלה 
מאהבה  מסתרת׃
    TVBH ThVKChTh MGLH M'aHBH MSThUrTh.     Better is open reproof than hidden love.     melior est manifesta correptio quam amor absconditus
 
6.    Faithful are the wounds of a friend; although the kisses of an enemy are profuse.     Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.     נאמנים  פצעי  אוהב 
ונעתרות  נשיקות
שונא׃
    N'aMNYM PhTSh'yY 'aVHB VN'yThUrVTh NShYQVTh ShVN'a.     Faithful are the wounds of a lover, And abundant the kisses of an enemy.     meliora sunt vulnera diligentis quam fraudulenta odientis oscula
 
7.    A full soul loathes a honeycomb; but to a hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet.     The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.     נפש  שבעה  תבוס  נפת 
ונפש  רעבה  כל־מר
מתוק׃
    NPhSh ShB'yH ThBVS NPhTh VNPhSh Ur'yBH KL-MUr MThVQ.     A satiated soul treadeth down a honeycomb, And to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.     anima saturata calcabit favum anima esuriens et amarum pro dulce sumet
 
8.    As a bird that wanders from her nest, so is a man who wanders from his home.     As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.     כצפור  נודדת 
מן־קנה  כן־איש
נודד  ממקומו׃
    KTShPhVUr NVDDTh MN-QNH KN-'aYSh NVDD MMQVMV.     As a bird wandering from her nest, So is a man wandering from his place.     sicut avis transmigrans de nido suo sic vir qui relinquit locum suum
 
9.    Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; so does earnest counsel from a man's friend.     Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.     שמן  וקטרת  ישמח־לב 
ומתק  רעהו
מעצת־נפש׃
    ShMN VQTUrTh YShMCh-LB VMThQ Ur'yHV M'yTShTh-NPhSh.     Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart, And the sweetness of one`s friend -- from counsel of the soul.     unguento et variis odoribus delectatur cor et bonis amici consiliis anima dulcoratur
 
10.    Don't forsake your friend and your father's friend. Don't go to your brother's house in the day of your disaster: better is a neighbor who is near than a distant brother.     Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.     רעך  ורעה  אביך 
אל־תעזב  ובית  אחיך
אל־תבוא  ביום  אידך
טוב  שכן  קרוב  מאח
רחוק׃
    Ur'yK VUr'yH 'aBYK 'aL-Th'yZB VBYTh 'aChYK 'aL-ThBV'a BYVM 'aYDK TVB ShKN QUrVB M'aCh UrChVQ.     Thine own friend, and the friend of thy father, forsake not, And the house of thy brother enter not In a day of thy calamity, Better is a near neighbour than a brother afar off.     amicum tuum et amicum patris tui ne dimiseris et domum fratris tui ne ingrediaris in die adflictionis tuae melior est vicinus iuxta quam frater procul
 
11.    Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart, then I can answer my tormentor.     My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.     חכם  בני  ושמח  לבי 
ואשיבה  חרפי  דבר׃
    ChKM BNY VShMCh LBY V'aShYBH ChUrPhY DBUr.     Be wise, my son, and rejoice my heart. And I return my reproacher a word.     stude sapientiae fili mi et laetifica cor meum ut possim exprobranti respondere sermonem
 
12.    A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.     A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.     ערום  ראה  רעה  נסתר 
פתאים  עברו  נענשו׃
    'yUrVM Ur'aH Ur'yH NSThUr PhTh'aYM 'yBUrV N'yNShV.     The prudent hath seen the evil, he is hidden, The simple have passed on, they are punished.     astutus videns malum absconditus est parvuli transeuntes sustinuere dispendia
 
13.    Take his garment when he puts up collateral for a stranger. Hold it for a wayward woman!     Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.     קח־בגדו  כי־ערב  זר 
ובעד  נכריה  חבלהו׃
    QCh-BGDV KY-'yUrB ZUr VB'yD NKUrYH ChBLHV.     Take his garment, when a stranger hath been surety, And for a strange woman pledge it.     tolle vestimentum eius qui spopondit pro extraneo et pro alienis auferto pignus
 
14.    He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be taken as a curse by him.     He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.     מברך  רעהו  בקול 
גדול  בבקר  השכים
קללה  תחשב  לו׃
    MBUrK Ur'yHV BQVL GDVL BBQUr HShKYM QLLH ThChShB LV.     Whoso is saluting his friend with a loud voice, In the morning rising early, A light thing it is reckoned to him.     qui benedicit proximo suo voce grandi de nocte consurgens maledicenti similis erit
 
15.    A continual dropping on a rainy day and a contentious wife are alike:     A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.     דלף  טורד  ביום 
סגריר  ואשת  מדונים
נשתוה׃
    DLPh TVUrD BYVM SGUrYUr V'aShTh MDVNYM NShThVH.     A continual dropping in a day of rain, And a woman of contentions are alike,     tecta perstillantia in die frigoris et litigiosa mulier conparantur
 
16.    restraining her is like restraining the wind, or like grasping oil in his right hand.     Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.     צפניה  צפן־רוח 
ושמן  ימינו  יקרא׃
    TShPhNYH TShPhN-UrVCh VShMN YMYNV YQUr'a.     Whoso is hiding her hath hidden the wind, And the ointment of his right hand calleth out.     qui retinet eam quasi qui ventum teneat et oleum dexterae suae vocabit
 
17.    Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend's countenance.     Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.     ברזל  בברזל  יחד 
ואיש  יחד
פני־רעהו׃
    BUrZL BBUrZL YChD V'aYSh YChD PhNY-Ur'yHV.     Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend.     ferrum ferro acuitur et homo exacuit faciem amici sui
 
18.    Whoever tends the fig tree shall eat its fruit. He who looks after his master shall be honored.     Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.     נצר  תאנה  יאכל 
פריה  ושמר  אדניו
יכבד׃
    NTShUr Th'aNH Y'aKL PhUrYH VShMUr 'aDNYV YKBD.     The keeper of a fig-tree eateth its fruit, And the preserver of his master is honoured.     qui servat ficum comedet fructus eius et qui custos est domini sui glorificabitur
 
19.    As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.     As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.     כמים  הפנים  לפנים 
כן  לב־האדם  לאדם׃
    KMYM HPhNYM LPhNYM KN LB-H'aDM L'aDM.     As in water the face is to face, So the heart of man to man.     quomodo in aquis resplendent vultus prospicientium sic corda hominum manifesta sunt prudentibus
 
20.    Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.} and Abaddon are never satisfied; and a man's eyes are never satisfied.     Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.     שאול  ואבדה  לא 
תשבענה  ועיני  האדם
לא  תשבענה׃
    Sh'aVL V'aBDH L'a ThShB'yNH V'yYNY H'aDM L'a ThShB'yNH.     Sheol and destruction are not satisfied, And the eyes of man are not satisfied.     infernus et perditio non replentur similiter et oculi hominum insatiabiles
 
21.    The crucible is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but man is refined by his praise.     As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.     מצרף  לכסף  וכור 
לזהב  ואיש  לפי
מהללו׃
    MTShUrPh LKSPh VKVUr LZHB V'aYSh LPhY MHLLV.     A refining pot is for silver, and a furnace for gold, And a man according to his praise.     quomodo probatur in conflatorio argentum et in fornace aurum sic probatur homo ore laudantis
 
22.    Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with grain, yet his foolishness will not be removed from him.     Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.     אם  תכתוש־את־האויל 
במכתש  בתוך  הריפות
בעלי  לא־תסור
מעליו  אולתו׃
    'aM ThKThVSh-'aTh-H'aVYL BMKThSh BThVK HUrYPhVTh B'yLY L'a-ThSVUr M'yLYV 'aVLThV.     If thou dost beat the foolish in a mortar, Among washed things -- with a pestle, His folly turneth not aside from off him.     si contuderis stultum in pila quasi tisanas feriente desuper pilo non auferetur ab eo stultitia eius
 
23.    Know well the state of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds:     Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.     ידע  תדע  פני  צאנך 
שית  לבך  לעדרים׃
    YD'y ThD'y PhNY TSh'aNK ShYTh LBK L'yDUrYM.     Know well the face of thy flock, Set thy heart to the droves,     diligenter agnosce vultum pecoris tui tuosque greges considera
 
24.    for riches are not forever, nor does even the crown endure to all generations.     For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?     כי  לא  לעולם  חסן 
ואם־נזר  לדור  דור׃
    KY L'a L'yVLM ChSN V'aM-NZUr LDVUr DVUr.     For riches are not to the age, Nor a crown to generation and generation.     non enim habebis iugiter potestatem sed corona tribuetur in generatione generationum
 
25.    The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, the grasses of the hills are gathered in.     The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.     גלה  חציר 
ונראה־דשא  ונאספו
עשבות  הרים׃
    GLH ChTShYUr VNUr'aH-DSh'a VN'aSPhV 'yShBVTh HUrYM.     Revealed was the hay, and seen the tender grass, And gathered the herbs of mountains.     aperta sunt prata et apparuerunt herbae virentes et collecta sunt faena de montibus
 
26.    The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of a field.     The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.     כבשים  ללבושך 
ומחיר  שדה  עתודים׃
    KBShYM LLBVShK VMChYUr ShDH 'yThVDYM.     Lambs are for thy clothing, And the price of the field are he-goats,     agni ad vestimentum tuum et hedi agri pretium
 
27.    There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for your family's food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls.     And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.     ודי  חלב  עזים 
ללחמך  ללחם  ביתך
וחיים  לנערותיך׃
    VDY ChLB 'yZYM LLChMK LLChM BYThK VChYYM LN'yUrVThYK.     And a sufficiency of goats` milk is for thy bread, For bread to thy house, and life to thy damsels!     sufficiat tibi lac caprarum in cibos tuos in necessaria domus tuae et ad victum ancillis tuis
