1.    My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;     My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,     בני  אם־ערבת  לרעך 
תקעת  לזר  כפיך׃
    BNY 'aM-'yUrBTh LUr'yK ThQ'yTh LZUr KPhYK.     My son! if thou hast been surety for thy friend, Hast stricken for a stranger thy hand,     fili mi si spoponderis pro amico tuo defixisti apud extraneum manum tuam
 
2.    You are trapped by the words of your mouth. You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.     Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.     נוקשת  באמרי־פיך 
נלכדת  באמרי־פיך׃
    NVQShTh B'aMUrY-PhYK NLKDTh B'aMUrY-PhYK.     Hast been snared with sayings of thy mouth, Hast been captured with sayings of thy mouth,     inlaqueatus es verbis oris tui et captus propriis sermonibus
 
3.    Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, seeing you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.     Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.     עשה  זאת  אפוא  בני 
והנצל  כי  באת
בכף־רעך  לך  התרפס
ורהב  רעיך׃
    'yShH Z'aTh 'aPhV'a BNY VHNTShL KY B'aTh BKPh-Ur'yK LK HThUrPhS VUrHB Ur'yYK.     Do this now, my son, and be delivered, For thou hast come into the hand of thy friend. Go, trample on thyself, and strengthen thy friend,     fac ergo quod dico fili mi et temet ipsum libera quia incidisti in manu proximi tui discurre festina suscita amicum tuum
 
4.    Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.     Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.     אל־תתן  שנה  לעיניך 
ותנומה  לעפעפיך׃
    'aL-ThThN ShNH L'yYNYK VThNVMH L'yPh'yPhYK.     Give not sleep to thine eyes, And slumber to thine eyelids,     ne dederis somnum oculis tuis nec dormitent palpebrae tuae
 
5.    Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.     Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.     הנצל  כצבי  מיד 
וכצפור  מיד  יקוש׃
    HNTShL KTShBY MYD VKTShPhVUr MYD YQVSh.     Be delivered as a roe from the hand, And as a bird from the hand of a fowler.     eruere quasi dammula de manu et quasi avis de insidiis aucupis
 
6.    Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;     Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:     לך־אל־נמלה  עצל 
ראה  דרכיה  וחכם׃
    LK-'aL-NMLH 'yTShL Ur'aH DUrKYH VChKM.     Go unto the ant, O slothful one, See her ways and be wise;     vade ad formicam o piger et considera vias eius et disce sapientiam
 
7.    which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,     Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,     אשר  אין־לה  קצין 
שטר  ומשל׃
    'aShUr 'aYN-LH QTShYN ShTUr VMShL.     Which hath not captain, overseer, and ruler,     quae cum non habeat ducem nec praeceptorem nec principem
 
8.    provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.     Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.     תכין  בקיץ  לחמה 
אגרה  בקציר  מאכלה׃
    ThKYN BQYTSh LChMH 'aGUrH BQTShYUr M'aKLH.     She doth prepare in summer her bread, She hath gathered in harvest her food.     parat aestate cibum sibi et congregat in messe quod comedat
 
9.    How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?     How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?     עד־מתי  עצל  תשכב 
מתי  תקום  משנתך׃
    'yD-MThY 'yTShL ThShKB MThY ThQVM MShNThK.     Till when, O slothful one, dost thou lie? When dost thou arise from thy sleep?     usquequo piger dormis quando consurges ex somno tuo
 
10.    A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:     Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:     מעט  שנות  מעט 
תנומות  מעט  חבק
ידים  לשכב׃
    M'yT ShNVTh M'yT ThNVMVTh M'yT ChBQ YDYM LShKB.     A little sleep, a little slumber, A little clasping of the hands to rest,     paululum dormies paululum dormitabis paululum conseres manus ut dormias
 
11.    so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.     So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.     ובא־כמהלך  ראשך 
ומחסרך  כאיש  מגן׃
    VB'a-KMHLK Ur'aShK VMChSUrK K'aYSh MGN.     And thy poverty hath come as a traveller, And thy want as an armed man.     et veniet tibi quasi viator egestas et pauperies quasi vir armatus
 
12.    A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth;     A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.     אדם  בליעל  איש  און 
הולך  עקשות  פה׃
    'aDM BLY'yL 'aYSh 'aVN HVLK 'yQShVTh PhH.     A man of worthlessness, a man of iniquity, Walking with perverseness of mouth,     homo apostata vir inutilis graditur ore perverso
 
13.    who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers;     He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;     קרץ  בעינו  מלל 
ברגלו  מרה
באצבעתיו׃
    QUrTSh B'yYNV MLL BUrGLV MUrH B'aTShB'yThYV.     Winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, Directing with his fingers,     annuit oculis terit pede digito loquitur
 
14.    in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.     Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.     תהפכות  בלבו  חרש 
רע  בכל־עת  מדנים
ישלח׃
    ThHPhKVTh BLBV ChUrSh Ur'y BKL-'yTh MDNYM YShLCh.     Frowardness is in his heart, devising evil at all times, Contentions he sendeth forth.     pravo corde machinatur malum et in omni tempore iurgia seminat
 
15.    Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.     Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.     על־כן  פתאם  יבוא 
אידו  פתע  ישבר
ואין  מרפא׃
    'yL-KN PhTh'aM YBV'a 'aYDV PhTh'y YShBUr V'aYN MUrPh'a.     Therefore suddenly cometh his calamity, Instantly he is broken -- and no healing.     huic extemplo veniet perditio sua et subito conteretur nec habebit ultra medicinam
 
16.    There are six things which Yahweh hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him:     These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:     שש־הנה  שנא  יהוה 
ושבע  תועבות  נפשו׃
    ShSh-HNH ShN'a YHVH VShB'y ThV'yBVTh NPhShV.     These six hath Jehovah hated, Yea, seven are abominations to His soul.     sex sunt quae odit Dominus et septimum detestatur anima eius
 
17.    haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood;     A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,     עינים  רמות  לשון 
שקר  וידים  שפכות
דם־נקי׃
    'yYNYM UrMVTh LShVN ShQUr VYDYM ShPhKVTh DM-NQY.     Eyes high -- tongues false -- And hands shedding innocent blood --     oculos sublimes linguam mendacem manus effundentes innoxium sanguinem
 
18.    a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,     An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,     לב  חרש  מחשבות  און 
רגלים  ממהרות  לרוץ
לרעה׃
    LB ChUrSh MChShBVTh 'aVN UrGLYM MMHUrVTh LUrVTSh LUr'yH.     A heart devising thoughts of vanity -- Feet hasting to run to evil --     cor machinans cogitationes pessimas pedes veloces ad currendum in malum
 
19.    a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.     A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.     יפיח  כזבים  עד  שקר 
ומשלח  מדנים  בין
אחים׃
    YPhYCh KZBYM 'yD ShQUr VMShLCh MDNYM BYN 'aChYM.     A false witness who doth breathe out lies -- And one sending forth contentions between brethren.     proferentem mendacia testem fallacem et eum qui seminat inter fratres discordias
 
20.    My son, keep your father's commandment, and don't forsake your mother's teaching.     My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:     נצר  בני  מצות  אביך 
ואל־תטש  תורת  אמך׃
    NTShUr BNY MTShVTh 'aBYK V'aL-ThTSh ThVUrTh 'aMK.     Keep, my son, the command of thy father, And leave not the law of thy mother.     conserva fili mi praecepta patris tui et ne dimittas legem matris tuae
 
21.    Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.     Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.     קשרם  על־לבך  תמיד 
ענדם  על־גרגרתך׃
    QShUrM 'yL-LBK ThMYD 'yNDM 'yL-GUrGUrThK.     Bind them on thy heart continually, Tie them on thy neck.     liga ea in corde tuo iugiter et circumda gutturi tuo
 
22.    When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.     When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.     בהתהלכך  תנחה  אתך 
בשכבך  תשמר  עליך
והקיצות  היא
תשיחך׃
    BHThHLKK ThNChH 'aThK BShKBK ThShMUr 'yLYK VHQYTShVTh HY'a ThShYChK.     In thy going up and down, it leadeth thee, In thy lying down, it watcheth over thee, And thou hast awaked -- it talketh with thee.     cum ambulaveris gradiantur tecum cum dormieris custodiant te et evigilans loquere cum eis
 
23.    For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,     For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:     כי  נר  מצוה  ותורה 
אור  ודרך  חיים
תוכחות  מוסר׃
    KY NUr MTShVH VThVUrH 'aVUr VDUrK ChYYM ThVKChVTh MVSUr.     For a lamp is the command, And the law a light, And a way of life are reproofs of instruction,     quia mandatum lucerna est et lex lux et via vitae increpatio disciplinae
 
24.    to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife's tongue.     To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.     לשמרך  מאשת  רע 
מחלקת  לשון  נכריה׃
    LShMUrK M'aShTh Ur'y MChLQTh LShVN NKUrYH.     To preserve thee from an evil woman, From the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.     ut custodiant te a muliere mala et a blanda lingua extraneae
 
25.    Don't lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.     Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.     אל־תחמד  יפיה 
בלבבך  ואל־תקחך
בעפעפיה׃
    'aL-ThChMD YPhYH BLBBK V'aL-ThQChK B'yPh'yPhYH.     Desire not her beauty in thy heart, And let her not take thee with her eyelids.     non concupiscat pulchritudinem eius cor tuum nec capiaris nutibus illius
 
26.    For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.     For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.     כי  בעד־אשה  זונה 
עד־ככר  לחם  ואשת
איש  נפש  יקרה
תצוד׃
    KY B'yD-'aShH ZVNH 'yD-KKUr LChM V'aShTh 'aYSh NPhSh YQUrH ThTShVD.     For a harlot consumeth unto a cake of bread, And an adulteress the precious soul hunteth.     pretium enim scorti vix unius est panis mulier autem viri pretiosam animam capit
 
27.    Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?     Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?     היחתה  איש  אש 
בחיקו  ובגדיו  לא
תשרפנה׃
    HYChThH 'aYSh 'aSh BChYQV VBGDYV L'a ThShUrPhNH.     Doth a man take fire into his bosom, And are his garments not burnt?     numquid abscondere potest homo ignem in sinu suo ut vestimenta illius non ardeant
 
28.    Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?     Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?     אם־יהלך  איש 
על־הגחלים  ורגליו
לא  תכוינה׃
    'aM-YHLK 'aYSh 'yL-HGChLYM VUrGLYV L'a ThKVYNH.     Doth a man walk on the hot coals, And are his feet not scorched?     aut ambulare super prunas et non conburentur plantae eius
 
29.    So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.     So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.     כן  הבא  אל־אשת 
רעהו  לא  ינקה
כל־הנגע  בה׃
    KN HB'a 'aL-'aShTh Ur'yHV L'a YNQH KL-HNG'y BH.     So is he who hath gone in unto the wife of his neighbour, None who doth touch her is innocent.     sic qui ingreditur ad mulierem proximi sui non erit mundus cum tetigerit eam
 
30.    Men don't despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry:     Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;     לא־יבוזו  לגנב  כי 
יגנוב  למלא  נפשו
כי  ירעב׃
    L'a-YBVZV LGNB KY YGNVB LML'a NPhShV KY YUr'yB.     They do not despise the thief, When he stealeth to fill his soul when he is hungry,     non grandis est culpae cum quis furatus fuerit furatur enim ut esurientem impleat animam
 
31.    but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.     But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.     ונמצא  ישלם  שבעתים 
את־כל־הון  ביתו
יתן׃
    VNMTSh'a YShLM ShB'yThYM 'aTh-KL-HVN BYThV YThN.     And being found he repayeth sevenfold, All the substance of his house he giveth.     deprehensus quoque reddet septuplum et omnem substantiam domus suae tradet
 
32.    He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul.     But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.     נאף  אשה  חסר־לב 
משחית  נפשו  הוא
יעשנה׃
    N'aPh 'aShH ChSUr-LB MShChYTh NPhShV HV'a Y'yShNH.     He who committeth adultery with a woman lacketh heart, He is destroying his soul who doth it.     qui autem adulter est propter cordis inopiam perdet animam suam
 
33.    He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.     A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.     נגע־וקלון  ימצא 
וחרפתו  לא  תמחה׃
    NG'y-VQLVN YMTSh'a VChUrPhThV L'a ThMChH.     A stroke and shame he doth find, And his reproach is not wiped away,     turpitudinem et ignominiam congregat sibi et obprobrium illius non delebitur
 
34.    For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won't spare in the day of vengeance.     For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.     כי־קנאה  חמת־גבר 
ולא־יחמול  ביום
נקם׃
    KY-QN'aH ChMTh-GBUr VL'a-YChMVL BYVM NQM.     For jealousy is the fury of a man, And he doth not spare in a day of vengeance.     quia zelus et furor viri non parcet in die vindictae
 
35.    He won't regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.     He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.     לא־ישא  פני  כל־כפר 
ולא־יאבה  כי
תרבה־שחד׃
    L'a-YSh'a PhNY KL-KPhUr VL'a-Y'aBH KY ThUrBH-ShChD.     He accepteth not the appearance of any atonement, Yea, he doth not consent, Though thou dost multiply bribes!     nec adquiescet cuiusquam precibus nec suscipiet pro redemptione dona plurima
