1.    Let me sing for my well beloved a song of my beloved about his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a very fruitful hill.     Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:     אשירה  נא  לידידי

2.    He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in its midst, and also cut out a winepress therein. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes.     And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.     ויעזקהו  ויסקלהו 
ויטעהו  שרק  ויבן
מגדל  בתוכו
וגם־יקב  חצב  בו
ויקו  לעשות  ענבים
ויעש  באשים׃
    VY'yZQHV VYSQLHV VYT'yHV ShUrQ VYBN MGDL BThVKV VGM-YQB ChTShB BV VYQV L'yShVTh 'yNBYM VY'ySh B'aShYM.     And he fenceth it, and casteth out its stones, And planteth it with a choice vine, And buildeth a tower in its midst, And also a wine press hath hewn out in it, And he waiteth for the yielding of grapes, And it yieldeth bad ones!     et sepivit eam et lapides elegit ex illa et plantavit eam electam et aedificavit turrem in medio eius et torcular extruxit in ea et expectavit ut faceret uvas et fecit labruscas
 
3.    "Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard.     And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.     ועתה  יושב  ירושלם 
ואיש  יהודה
שפטו־נא  ביני  ובין
כרמי׃
    V'yThH YVShB YUrVShLM V'aYSh YHVDH ShPhTV-N'a BYNY VBYN KUrMY.     And now, O inhabitant of Jerusalem, and man of Judah, Judge, I pray you, between me and my vineyard.     nunc ergo habitator Hierusalem et vir Iuda iudicate inter me et inter vineam meam
 
4.    What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I looked for it to yield grapes, did it yield wild grapes?     What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?     מה־לעשות  עוד 
לכרמי  ולא  עשיתי
בו  מדוע  קויתי
לעשות  ענבים  ויעש
באשים׃
    MH-L'yShVTh 'yVD LKUrMY VL'a 'yShYThY BV MDV'y QVYThY L'yShVTh 'yNBYM VY'ySh B'aShYM.     What -- to do still to my vineyard, That I have not done in it! Wherefore, I waited to the yielding of grapes, And it yieldeth bad ones!     quid est quod debui ultra facere vineae meae et non feci ei an quod expectavi ut faceret uvas et fecit labruscas
 
5.    Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall of it, and it will be trampled down.     And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:     ועתה  אודיעה־נא 
אתכם  את  אשר־אני
עשה  לכרמי  הסר
משוכתו  והיה  לבער
פרץ  גדרו  והיה
למרמס׃
    V'yThH 'aVDY'yH-N'a 'aThKM 'aTh 'aShUr-'aNY 'yShH LKUrMY HSUr MShVKThV VHYH LB'yUr PhUrTSh GDUrV VHYH LMUrMS.     And now, pray, let me cause you to know, That which I am doing to my vineyard, To turn aside its hedge, And it hath been for consumption, To break down its wall, And it hath been for a treading-place.     et nunc ostendam vobis quid ego faciam vineae meae auferam sepem eius et erit in direptionem diruam maceriam eius et erit in conculcationem
 
6.    I will lay it a wasteland. It won't be pruned nor hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it."     And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.     ואשיתהו  בתה  לא 
יזמר  ולא  יעדר
ועלה  שמיר  ושית
ועל  העבים  אצוה
מהמטיר  עליו  מטר׃
    V'aShYThHV BThH L'a YZMUr VL'a Y'yDUr V'yLH ShMYUr VShYTh V'yL H'yBYM 'aTShVH MHMTYUr 'yLYV MTUr.     And I make it a waste, It is not pruned, nor arranged, And gone up have brier and thorn, And on the thick clouds I lay a charge, From raining upon it rain.     et ponam eam desertam non putabitur et non fodietur et ascendent vepres et spinae et nubibus mandabo ne pluant super eam imbrem
 
7.    For the vineyard of Yahweh of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry of distress.     For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.     כי  כרם  יהוה  צבאות

יהודה  נטע  שעשועיו
ויקו  למשפט  והנה
משפח  לצדקה  והנה
צעקה׃
    KY KUrM YHVH TShB'aVTh BYTh YShUr'aL V'aYSh YHVDH NT'y Sh'yShV'yYV VYQV LMShPhT VHNH MShPhCh LTShDQH VHNH TSh'yQH.     Because the vineyard of Jehovah of Hosts Is the house of Israel, And the man of Judah His pleasant plant, And He waiteth for judgment, and lo, oppression, For righteousness, and lo, a cry.     vinea enim Domini exercituum domus Israhel et vir Iuda germen delectabile eius et expectavi ut faceret iudicium et ecce iniquitas et iustitiam et ecce clamor
 
8.    Woe to those who join house to house, who lay field to field, until there is no room, and you are made to dwell alone in the midst of the land!     Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!     הוי  מגיעי  בית 
בבית  שדה  בשדה
יקריבו  עד  אפס
מקום  והושבתם
לבדכם  בקרב  הארץ׃
    HVY MGY'yY BYTh BBYTh ShDH BShDH YQUrYBV 'yD 'aPhS MQVM VHVShBThM LBDKM BQUrB H'aUrTSh.     Wo to those joining house to house, Field to field they bring near, till there is no place, And ye have been settled by yourselves In the midst of the land!     vae qui coniungitis domum ad domum et agrum agro copulatis usque ad terminum loci numquid habitabitis soli vos in medio terrae
 
9.    In my ears, Yahweh of Armies says: "Surely many houses will be desolate, even great and beautiful, unoccupied.     In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.     באזני  יהוה  צבאות 
אם־לא  בתים  רבים
לשמה  יהיו  גדלים
וטובים  מאין  יושב׃
    B'aZNY YHVH TShB'aVTh 'aM-L'a BThYM UrBYM LShMH YHYV GDLYM VTVBYM M'aYN YVShB.     By the weapons of Jehovah of Hosts Do not many houses a desolation become? Great and good without inhabitant!     in auribus meis sunt haec Domini exercituum nisi domus multae desertae fuerint grandes et pulchrae absque habitatore
 
10.    For ten acres{literally, ten yokes, or the amount of land that ten yokes of oxen can plow in one day, which is about 10 acres or 4 hectares.} of vineyard shall yield one bath,{1 bath is about 22 litres or 5.8 U. S. gallons} and a homer{1 homer is about 220 litres or 6 bushels} of seed shall yield an ephah.{1 ephah is about 22 litres or 0.6 bushels or about 2 pecks)--only one tenth of what was sown.}"     Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of an homer shall yield an ephah.     כי  עשרת  צמדי־כרם 
יעשו  בת  אחת  וזרע
חמר  יעשה  איפה׃
    KY 'yShUrTh TShMDY-KUrM Y'yShV BTh 'aChTh VZUr'y ChMUr Y'yShH 'aYPhH.     For ten acres of vineyard do yield one bath, And an homer of seed yieldeth an ephah.     decem enim iuga vinearum facient lagunculam unam et triginta modii sementis facient modios tres
 
11.    Woe to those who rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; who stay late into the night, until wine inflames them!     Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!     הוי  משכימי  בבקר 
שכר  ירדפו  מאחרי
בנשף  יין  ידליקם׃
    HVY MShKYMY BBQUr ShKUr YUrDPhV M'aChUrY BNShPh YYN YDLYQM.     Wo to those rising early in the morning, Strong drink they pursue! Tarrying in twilight, wine inflameth them!     vae qui consurgitis mane ad ebrietatem sectandam et potandum usque ad vesperam ut vino aestuetis
 
12.    The harp, lyre, tambourine, and flute, with wine, are at their feasts; but they don't respect the work of Yahweh, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.     And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.     והיה  כנור  ונבל  תף 
וחליל  ויין  משתיהם
ואת  פעל  יהוה  לא
יביטו  ומעשה  ידיו
לא  ראו׃
    VHYH KNVUr VNBL ThPh VChLYL VYYN MShThYHM V'aTh Ph'yL YHVH L'a YBYTV VM'yShH YDYV L'a Ur'aV.     And harp, and psaltery, tabret, and pipe, And wine, have been their banquets, And the work of Jehovah they behold not, Yea, the work of His hands they have not seen.     cithara et lyra et tympanum et tibia et vinum in conviviis vestris et opus Domini non respicitis nec opera manuum eius consideratis
 
13.    Therefore my people go into captivity for lack of knowledge. Their honorable men are famished, and their multitudes are parched with thirst.     Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.     לכן  גלה  עמי 
מבלי־דעת  וכבודו
מתי  רעב  והמונו
צחה  צמא׃
    LKN GLH 'yMY MBLY-D'yTh VKBVDV MThY Ur'yB VHMVNV TShChH TShM'a.     Therefore my people removed without knowledge, And its honourable ones are famished, And its multitude dried up of thirst.     propterea captivus ductus est populus meus quia non habuit scientiam et nobiles eius interierunt fame et multitudo eius siti exaruit
 
14.    Therefore Sheol{Sheol is the place of the dead.} has enlarged its desire, and opened its mouth without measure; and their glory, their multitude, their pomp, and he who rejoices among them, descend into it.     Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.     לכן  הרחיבה  שאול 
נפשה  ופערה  פיה
לבלי־חק  וירד  הדרה
והמונה  ושאונה
ועלז  בה׃
    LKN HUrChYBH Sh'aVL NPhShH VPh'yUrH PhYH LBLY-ChQ VYUrD HDUrH VHMVNH VSh'aVNH V'yLZ BH.     Therefore hath Sheol enlarged herself, And hath opened her mouth without limit. And gone down hath its honour, and its multitude, And its noise, and its exulting one -- into her.     propterea dilatavit infernus animam suam et aperuit os suum absque ullo termino et descendent fortes eius et populus eius et sublimes gloriosique eius ad eum
 
15.    So man is brought low, mankind is humbled, and the eyes of the arrogant ones are humbled;     And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:     וישח  אדם 
וישפל־איש  ועיני
גבהים  תשפלנה׃
    VYShCh 'aDM VYShPhL-'aYSh V'yYNY GBHYM ThShPhLNH.     And bowed down is the low, and humbled the high, And the eyes of the haughty become low,     et incurvabitur homo et humiliabitur vir et oculi sublimium deprimentur
 
16.    but Yahweh of Armies is exalted in justice, and God the Holy One is sanctified in righteousness.     But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.     ויגבה  יהוה  צבאות 
במשפט  והאל  הקדוש
נקדש  בצדקה׃
    VYGBH YHVH TShB'aVTh BMShPhT VH'aL HQDVSh NQDSh BTShDQH.     And Jehovah of Hosts is high in judgment, And the Holy God sanctified in righteousness,     et exaltabitur Dominus exercituum in iudicio et Deus sanctus sanctificabitur in iustitia
 
17.    Then the lambs will graze as in their pasture, and strangers will eat the ruins of the rich.     Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat.     ורעו  כבשים  כדברם 
וחרבות  מחים  גרים
יאכלו׃
    VUr'yV KBShYM KDBUrM VChUrBVTh MChYM GUrYM Y'aKLV.     And fed have lambs according to their leading, And waste places of the fat ones Do sojourners consume.     et pascentur agni iuxta ordinem suum et deserta in ubertatem versa advenae comedent
 
18.    Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, and wickedness as with cart rope;     Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:     הוי  משכי  העון 
בחבלי  השוא  וכעבות
העגלה  חטאה׃
    HVY MShKY H'yVN BChBLY HShV'a VK'yBVTh H'yGLH ChT'aH.     Wo to those drawing out iniquity with cords of vanity, And as with thick ropes of the cart -- sin.     vae qui trahitis iniquitatem in funiculis vanitatis et quasi vinculum plaustri peccatum
 
19.    Who say, "Let him make speed, let him hasten his work, that we may see it; and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, that we may know it!"     That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!     האמרים  ימהר  יחישה 
מעשהו  למען  נראה
ותקרב  ותבואה  עצת
קדוש  ישראל  ונדעה׃
    H'aMUrYM YMHUr YChYShH M'yShHV LM'yN NUr'aH VThQUrB VThBV'aH 'yTShTh QDVSh YShUr'aL VND'yH.     Who are saying, `Let Him hurry, Let Him hasten His work, that we may see, And let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel Draw near and come, and we know.`     qui dicitis festinet et cito veniat opus eius ut videamus et adpropiet et veniat consilium Sancti Israhel et sciemus illud
 
20.    Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!     Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!     הוי  האמרים  לרע 
טוב  ולטוב  רע  שמים
חשך  לאור  ואור
לחשך  שמים  מר
למתוק  ומתוק  למר׃
    HVY H'aMUrYM LUr'y TVB VLTVB Ur'y ShMYM ChShK L'aVUr V'aVUr LChShK ShMYM MUr LMThVQ VMThVQ LMUr.     Wo to those saying to evil `good,` And to good `evil,` Putting darkness for light, and light for darkness, Putting bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.     vae qui dicitis malum bonum et bonum malum ponentes tenebras lucem et lucem tenebras ponentes amarum in dulce et dulce in amarum
 
21.    Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!     Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!     הוי  חכמים  בעיניהם 
ונגד  פניהם  נבנים׃
    HVY ChKMYM B'yYNYHM VNGD PhNYHM NBNYM.     Wo to the wise in their own eyes, And -- before their own faces -- intelligent!     vae qui sapientes estis in oculis vestris et coram vobismet ipsis prudentes
 
22.    Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and champions at mixing strong drink;     Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:     הוי  גבורים  לשתות 
יין  ואנשי־חיל
למסך  שכר׃
    HVY GBVUrYM LShThVTh YYN V'aNShY-ChYL LMSK ShKUr.     Wo to the mighty to drink wine, And men of strength to mingle strong drink.     vae qui potentes estis ad bibendum vinum et viri fortes ad miscendam ebrietatem
 
23.    who acquit the guilty for a bribe, but deny justice for the innocent!     Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!     מצדיקי  רשע  עקב 
שחד  וצדקת  צדיקים
יסירו  ממנו׃
    MTShDYQY UrSh'y 'yQB ShChD VTShDQTh TShDYQYM YSYUrV MMNV.     Declaring righteous the wicked for a bribe, And the righteousness of the righteous They turn aside from him.     qui iustificatis impium pro muneribus et iustitiam iusti aufertis ab eo
 
24.    Therefore as the tongue of fire devours the stubble, and as the dry grass sinks down in the flame, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust; because they have rejected the law of Yahweh of Armies, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.     Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.     לכן  כאכל  קש  לשון 
אש  וחשש  להבה  ירפה
שרשם  כמק  יהיה
ופרחם  כאבק  יעלה
כי  מאסו  את  תורת
יהוה  צבאות  ואת
אמרת  קדוש־ישראל
נאצו׃
    LKN K'aKL QSh LShVN 'aSh VChShSh LHBH YUrPhH ShUrShM KMQ YHYH VPhUrChM K'aBQ Y'yLH KY M'aSV 'aTh ThVUrTh YHVH TShB'aVTh V'aTh 'aMUrTh QDVSh-YShUr'aL N'aTShV.     Therefore, as a tongue of fire devoureth stubble, And flaming hay falleth, Their root is as muck, And their flower as dust goeth up. Because they have rejected the law of Jehovah of Hosts, And the saying of the Holy One of Israel despised.     propter hoc sicut devorat stipulam lingua ignis et calor flammae exurit sic radix eorum quasi favilla erit et germen eorum ut pulvis ascendet abiecerunt enim legem Domini exercituum et eloquium Sancti Israhel blasphemaverunt
 
25.    Therefore Yahweh's anger burns against his people, and he has stretched out his hand against them, and has struck them. The mountains tremble, and their dead bodies are as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this, his anger is not turned away, but his hand is still stretched out.     Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.     על־כן  חרה  אף־יהוה 
בעמו  ויט  ידו  עליו
ויכהו  וירגזו
ההרים  ותהי  נבלתם
כסוחה  בקרב  חוצות
בכל־זאת  לא־שב  אפו
ועוד  ידו  נטויה׃
    'yL-KN ChUrH 'aPh-YHVH B'yMV VYT YDV 'yLYV VYKHV VYUrGZV HHUrYM VThHY NBLThM KSVChH BQUrB ChVTShVTh BKL-Z'aTh L'a-ShB 'aPhV V'yVD YDV NTVYH.     Therefore hath the anger of Jehovah burned among His people, And He stretcheth out His hand against it, And smiteth it, and the mountains tremble, And their carcase is as filth in the midst of the out-places. With all this His anger did not turn back, And still His hand is stretched out!     ideo iratus est furor Domini in populo suo et extendit manum suam super eum et percussit eum et conturbati sunt montes et facta sunt morticina eorum quasi stercus in medio platearum in omnibus his non est aversus furor eius sed adhuc manus eius extenta
 
26.    He will lift up a banner to the nations from far, and he will whistle for them from the end of the earth. Behold, they will come speedily and swiftly.     And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly:     ונשא־נס  לגוים 
מרחוק  ושרק  לו
מקצה  הארץ  והנה
מהרה  קל  יבוא׃
    VNSh'a-NS LGVYM MUrChVQ VShUrQ LV MQTShH H'aUrTSh VHNH MHUrH QL YBV'a.     And He lifted up an ensign to nations afar off, And hissed to it from the end of the earth, And lo, with haste, swift it cometh.     et levabit signum nationibus procul et sibilabit ad eum de finibus terrae et ecce festinus velociter veniet
 
27.    None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the belt of their waist be untied, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken:     None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken:     אין־עיף  ואין־כושל 
בו  לא  ינום  ולא
יישן  ולא  נפתח
אזור  חלציו  ולא
נתק  שרוך  נעליו׃
    'aYN-'yYPh V'aYN-KVShL BV L'a YNVM VL'a YYShN VL'a NPhThCh 'aZVUr ChLTShYV VL'a NThQ ShUrVK N'yLYV.     There is none weary, nor stumbling in it, It doth not slumber, nor sleep, Nor opened hath been the girdle of its loins, Nor drawn away the latchet of its sandals.     non est deficiens neque laborans in eo non dormitabit neque dormiet neque solvetur cingulum renum eius nec rumpetur corrigia calciamenti eius

פרסות  סוסיו  כצר
נחשבו  וגלגליו

    'aShUr ChTShYV ShNVNYM VKL-QShThThYV DUrKVTh PhUrSVTh SVSYV KTShUr NChShBV VGLGLYV KSVPhH.     Whose arrows are sharp, and all its bows bent, Hoofs of its horses as flint have been reckoned, And its wheels as a hurricane!     sagittae eius acutae et omnes arcus eius extenti ungulae equorum eius ut silex et rotae eius quasi impetus tempestatis
 
29.    Their roaring will be like a lioness. They will roar like young lions. Yes, they shall roar, and seize their prey and carry it off, and there will be no one to deliver.     Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it.     שאגה  לו  כלביא 
ושאג  ככפירים
וינהם  ויאחז  טרף
ויפליט  ואין  מציל׃
    Sh'aGH LV KLBY'a VSh'aG KKPhYUrYM VYNHM VY'aChZ TUrPh VYPhLYT V'aYN MTShYL.     Its roaring is like a lioness, It roareth like young lions, And it howleth, and seizeth prey, And carrieth away safely, and there is none delivering.     rugitus eius ut leonis rugiet ut catuli leonum et frendet et tenebit praedam et amplexabitur et non erit qui eruat
 
30.    They will roar against them in that day like the roaring of the sea. If one looks to the land behold, darkness and distress. The light is darkened in its clouds.     And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.     וינהם  עליו  ביום

ונבט  לארץ
והנה־חשך  צר  ואור
חשך  בעריפיה׃
