2.    in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years about which the word of Yahweh{"Yahweh" is God's proper Name, sometimes rendered "LORD" (all caps) in other translations.} came to Jeremiah the prophet, for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jerusalem, even seventy years.     In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.     בשנת  אחת  למלכו

    BShNTh 'aChTh LMLKV 'aNY DNY'aL BYNThY BSPhUrYM MSPhUr HShNYM 'aShUr HYH DBUr- YHVH 'aL-YUrMYH HNBY'a LML'aVTh LChUrBVTh YUrVShLM ShB'yYM ShNH.     in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, have understood by books the number of the years, (in that a word of Jehovah hath been unto Jeremiah the prophet,) concerning the fulfilling of the wastes of Jerusalem -- seventy years;    
 
3.    I set my face to the Lord God, to seek by prayer and petitions, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.     And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:     ואתנה  את־פני 
אל־אדני  האלהים
לבקש  תפלה
ותחנונים  בצום  ושק
ואפר׃
    V'aThNH 'aTh-PhNY 'aL-'aDNY H'aLHYM LBQSh ThPhLH VThChNVNYM BTShVM VShQ V'aPhUr.     and I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.    
 
4.    I prayed to Yahweh my God, and made confession, and said, Oh, Lord, the great and dreadful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments,     And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;     ואתפללה  ליהוה 
אלהי  ואתודה  ואמרה
אנא  אדני  האל
הגדול  והנורא  שמר
הברית  והחסד
לאהביו  ולשמרי
מצותיו׃
    V'aThPhLLH LYHVH 'aLHY V'aThVDH V'aMUrH 'aN'a 'aDNY H'aL HGDVL VHNVUr'a ShMUr HBUrYTh VHChSD L'aHBYV VLShMUrY MTShVThYV.     And I pray to Jehovah my God, and confess, and say: `I beseech Thee, O Lord God, the great and the fearful, keeping the covenant and the kindness to those loving Him, and to those keeping His commands;    
 
5.    we have sinned, and have dealt perversely, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even turning aside from your precepts and from your ordinances;     We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:     חטאנו  ועוינו 
והרשענו  ומרדנו
וסור  ממצותך
וממשפטיך׃
    ChT'aNV V'yVYNV VHUrSh'yNV VMUrDNV VSVUr MMTShVThK VMMShPhTYK.     we have sinned, and done perversely, and done wickedly, and rebelled, to turn aside from Thy commands, and from Thy judgments:    
 
6.    neither have we listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.     Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.     ולא  שמענו 
אל־עבדיך  הנביאים
אשר  דברו  בשמך
אל־מלכינו  שרינו
ואבתינו  ואל  כל־עם
הארץ׃
    VL'a ShM'yNV 'aL-'yBDYK HNBY'aYM 'aShUr DBUrV BShMK 'aL-MLKYNV ShUrYNV V'aBThYNV V'aL KL-'yM H'aUrTSh.     and we have not hearkened unto Thy servants, the prophets, who have spoken in Thy name unto our kings, our heads, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.    
 
7.    Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but to us confusion of face, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, who are near, and who are far off, through all the countries where you have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against you.     O LORD, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.     לך  אדני  הצדקה 
ולנו  בשת  הפנים
כיום  הזה  לאיש
יהודה  וליושבי
ירושלם  ולכל־ישראל
הקרבים  והרחקים
בכל־הארצות  אשר
הדחתם  שם  במעלם
אשר  מעלו־בך׃
    LK 'aDNY HTShDQH VLNV BShTh HPhNYM KYVM HZH L'aYSh YHVDH VLYVShBY YUrVShLM VLKL-YShUr'aL HQUrBYM VHUrChQYM BKL-H'aUrTShVTh 'aShUr HDChThM ShM BM'yLM 'aShUr M'yLV-BK.     `To Thee, O Lord, is the righteousness, and to us the shame of face, as at this day, to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, who are near, and who are far off, in all the lands whither Thou hast driven them, in their trespass that they have trespassed against Thee.    
 
8.    Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you.     O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.     יהוה  לנו  בשת

    YHVH LNV BShTh HPhNYM LMLKYNV LShUrYNV VL'aBThYNV 'aShUr ChT'aNV LK.     `O Lord, to us is the shame of face, to our kings, to our heads, and to our fathers, in that we have sinned against Thee.    
 
9.    To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgiveness; for we have rebelled against him;     To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;     לאדני  אלהינו 
הרחמים  והסלחות  כי
מרדנו  בו׃
    L'aDNY 'aLHYNV HUrChMYM VHSLChVTh KY MUrDNV BV.     `To the Lord our God are the mercies and the forgivenesses, for we have rebelled against Him,    
 
10.    neither have we obeyed the voice of Yahweh our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.     Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.     ולא  שמענו  בקול 
יהוה  אלהינו  ללכת
בתורתיו  אשר  נתן
לפנינו  ביד  עבדיו
הנביאים׃
    VL'a ShM'yNV BQVL YHVH 'aLHYNV LLKTh BThVUrThYV 'aShUr NThN LPhNYNV BYD 'yBDYV HNBY'aYM.     and have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah our God, to walk in His laws, that He hath set before us by the hand of His servants the prophets;    
 
11.    Yes, all Israel have transgressed your law, turning aside, that they should not obey your voice: therefore the curse and the oath written in the law of Moses the servant of God has been poured out on us; for we have sinned against him.     Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.     וכל־ישראל  עברו 
את־תורתך  וסור
לבלתי  שמוע  בקלך
ותתך  עלינו  האלה
והשבעה  אשר  כתובה
בתורת  משה
עבד־האלהים  כי
חטאנו  לו׃
    VKL-YShUr'aL 'yBUrV 'aTh-ThVUrThK VSVUr LBLThY ShMV'y BQLK VThThK 'yLYNV H'aLH VHShB'yH 'aShUr KThVBH BThVUrTh MShH 'yBD-H'aLHYM KY ChT'aNV LV.     and all Israel have transgressed Thy law, to turn aside so as not to hearken to Thy voice; and poured on us is the execration, and the oath, that is written in the law of Moses, servant of God, because we have sinned against Him.    
 
12.    He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us, and against our judges who judged us, by bringing on us a great evil; for under the whole sky, such has not been done as has been done to Jerusalem.     And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.     ויקם  את־דבריו 
אשר־דבר  עלינו  ועל
שפטינו  אשר  שפטונו
להביא  עלינו  רעה
גדלה  אשר  לא־נעשתה
תחת  כל־השמים  כאשר
נעשתה  בירושלם׃
    VYQM 'aTh-DBUrYV 'aShUr-DBUr 'yLYNV V'yL ShPhTYNV 'aShUr ShPhTVNV LHBY'a 'yLYNV Ur'yH GDLH 'aShUr L'a-N'yShThH ThChTh KL-HShMYM K'aShUr N'yShThH BYUrVShLM.     `And He confirmeth His words that He hath spoken against us, and against our judges who have judged us, to bring in upon us great evil, in that it hath not been done under the whole heavens as it hath been done in Jerusalem,    
 
13.    As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come on us: yet have we not entreated the favor of Yahweh our God, that we should turn from our iniquities, and have discernment in your truth.     As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.     כאשר  כתוב  בתורת 
משה  את  כל־הרעה
הזאת  באה  עלינו
ולא־חלינו  את־  פני
יהוה  אלהינו  לשוב
מעוננו  ולהשכיל
באמתך׃
    K'aShUr KThVB BThVUrTh MShH 'aTh KL-HUr'yH HZ'aTh B'aH 'yLYNV VL'a-ChLYNV 'aTh- PhNY YHVH 'aLHYNV LShVB M'yVNNV VLHShKYL B'aMThK.     as it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil hath come upon us, and we have not appeased the face of Jehovah our God to turn back from our iniquities, and to act wisely in Thy truth.    
 
14.    Therefore has Yahweh watched over the evil, and brought it on us; for Yahweh our God is righteous in all his works which he does, and we have not obeyed his voice.     Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.     וישקד  יהוה 
על־הרעה  ויביאה
עלינו  כי־צדיק
יהוה  אלהינו
על־כל־  מעשיו  אשר
עשה  ולא  שמענו
בקלו׃
    VYShQD YHVH 'yL-HUr'yH VYBY'aH 'yLYNV KY-TShDYQ YHVH 'aLHYNV 'yL-KL- M'yShYV 'aShUr 'yShH VL'a ShM'yNV BQLV.     And Jehovah doth watch for the evil, and bringeth it upon us, for righteous is Jehovah our God concerning all His works that He hath done, and we have not hearkened to His voice.    
 
15.    Now, Lord our God, who has brought your people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and have gotten yourself renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.     And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.     ועתה  אדני  אלהינו 
אשר  הוצאת  את־עמך
מארץ  מצרים  ביד
חזקה  ותעש־  לך  שם
כיום  הזה  חטאנו
רשענו׃
    V'yThH 'aDNY 'aLHYNV 'aShUr HVTSh'aTh 'aTh-'yMK M'aUrTSh MTShUrYM BYD ChZQH VTh'ySh- LK ShM KYVM HZH ChT'aNV UrSh'yNV.     And now, O Lord our God, who hast brought forth Thy people from the land of Egypt by a strong hand, and dost make for Thee a name as at this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly.    
 
16.    Lord, according to all your righteousness, let your anger and please let your wrath be turned away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people have become a reproach to all who are around us.     O LORD, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.     אדני  ככל־צדקתך 
ישב־נא  אפך  וחמתך
מעירך  ירושלם
הר־קדשך  כי
בחטאינו  ובעונות
אבתינו  ירושלם
ועמך  לחרפה
לכל־סביבתינו׃
    'aDNY KKL-TShDQThK YShB-N'a 'aPhK VChMThK M'yYUrK YUrVShLM HUr-QDShK KY BChT'aYNV VB'yVNVTh 'aBThYNV YUrVShLM V'yMK LChUrPhH LKL-SBYBThYNV.     `O Lord, according to all Thy righteous acts, let turn back, I pray Thee, Thine anger and Thy fury from Thy city Jerusalem, Thy holy mount, for by our sins, and by the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Thy people are for a reproach to all our neighbours;    
 
17.    Now therefore, our God, listen to the prayer of your servant, and to his petitions, and cause your face to shine on your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.     Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.     ועתה  שמע  אלהינו 
אל־תפלת  עבדך
ואל־תחנוניו  והאר
פניך  על־מקדשך
השמם  למען  אדני׃
    V'yThH ShM'y 'aLHYNV 'aL-ThPhLTh 'yBDK V'aL-ThChNVNYV VH'aUr PhNYK 'yL-MQDShK HShMM LM'yN 'aDNY.     and now, hearken, O our God, unto the prayer of Thy servant, and unto his supplication, and cause Thy face to shine on Thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord`s sake.    
 
18.    My God, turn your ear, and hear; open your eyes, and see our desolations, and the city which is called by your name: for we do not present our petitions before you for our righteousness, but for your great mercies' sake.     O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.     הטה  אלהי  אזנך 
ושמע  פקחה  עיניך
וראה  שממתינו
והעיר  אשר־נקרא
שמך  עליה  כי  לא
על־צדקתינו  אנחנו
מפילים  תחנונינו
לפניך  כי  על־
רחמיך  הרבים׃
    HTH 'aLHY 'aZNK VShM'y PhQChH 'yYNYK VUr'aH ShMMThYNV VH'yYUr 'aShUr-NQUr'a ShMK 'yLYH KY L'a 'yL-TShDQThYNV 'aNChNV MPhYLYM ThChNVNYNV LPhNYK KY 'yL- UrChMYK HUrBYM.     `Incline, O my God, Thine ear, and hear, open Thine eyes and see our desolations, and the city on which Thy name is called; for not for our righteous acts are we causing our supplications to fall before Thee, but for Thy mercies that are many.    
 
19.    Lord, hear; Lord, forgive; Lord, listen and do; don't defer, for your own sake, my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.     O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.     אדני  שמעה  אדני

20.    While I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God for the holy mountain of my God;     And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;     ועוד  אני  מדבר

    V'yVD 'aNY MDBUr VMThPhLL VMThVDH ChT'aThY VChT'aTh 'yMY YShUr'aL VMPhYL ThChNThY LPhNY YHVH 'aLHY 'yL HUr-QDSh 'aLHY.     And while I am speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin, and the sin of my people Israel, and causing my supplication to fall before Jehovah my God, for the holy mount of my God,    
 
21.    yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening offering.     Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.     ועוד  אני  מדבר 
בתפלה  והאיש
גבריאל  אשר  ראיתי
בחזון  בתחלה  מעף
ביעף  נגע  אלי  כעת
מנחת־ערב׃
    V'yVD 'aNY MDBUr BThPhLH VH'aYSh GBUrY'aL 'aShUr Ur'aYThY BChZVN BThChLH M'yPh BY'yPh NG'y 'aLY K'yTh MNChTh-'yUrB.     yea, while I am speaking in prayer, then that one Gabriel, whom I had seen in vision at the commencement, being caused to fly swiftly, is coming unto me at the time of the evening present.    
 
22.    He instructed me, and talked with me, and said, Daniel, I am now come forth to give you wisdom and understanding.     And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.     ויבן  וידבר  עמי 
ויאמר  דניאל  עתה
יצאתי  להשכילך
בינה׃
    VYBN VYDBUr 'yMY VY'aMUr DNY'aL 'yThH YTSh'aThY LHShKYLK BYNH.     And he giveth understanding, and speaketh with me, and saith, `O Daniel, now I have come forth to cause thee to consider understanding wisely;    
 
23.    At the beginning of your petitions the commandment went forth, and I have come to tell you; for you are greatly beloved: therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.     At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.     בתחלת  תחנוניך  יצא 
דבר  ואני  באתי
להגיד  כי  חמודות
אתה  ובין  בדבר
והבן  במראה׃
    BThChLTh ThChNVNYK YTSh'a DBUr V'aNY B'aThY LHGYD KY ChMVDVTh 'aThH VBYN BDBUr VHBN BMUr'aH.     at the commencement of thy supplications hath the word come forth, and I have come to declare it, for thou art greatly desired, and understand thou concerning the matter, and consider concerning the appearance.    
 
24.    Seventy weeks are decreed on your people and on your holy city, to finish disobedience, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy.     Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.     שבעים  שבעים  נחתך 
על־עמך  ועל־עיר
קדשך  לכלא  הפשע
ולחתם  חטאות  ולכפר

    ShB'yYM ShB'yYM NChThK 'yL-'yMK V'yL-'yYUr QDShK LKL'a HPhSh'y VLChThM ChT'aVTh VLKPhUr 'yVN VLHBY'a TShDQ 'yLMYM VLChThM ChZVN VNBY'a VLMShCh QDSh QDShYM.     `Seventy weeks are determined for thy people, and for thy holy city, to shut up the transgression, and to seal up sins, and to cover iniquity, and to bring in righteousness age-during, and to seal up vision and prophet, and to anoint the holy of holies.    
 
25.    Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem to the Anointed One,{"Anointed One" can also be translated "Messiah" (same as "Christ").} the prince, shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks: it shall be built again, with street and moat, even in troubled times.     Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.     ותדע  ותשכל  מן־מצא 
דבר  להשיב  ולבנות
ירושלם  עד־משיח

וחרוץ  ובצוק
העתים׃
    VThD'y VThShKL MN-MTSh'a DBUr LHShYB VLBNVTh YUrVShLM 'yD-MShYCh NGYD ShB'yYM ShB'yH VShB'yYM ShShYM VShNYM ThShVB VNBNThH UrChVB VChUrVTSh VBTShVQ H'yThYM.     And thou dost know, and dost consider wisely, from the going forth of the word to restore and to build Jerusalem till Messiah the Leader is seven weeks, and sixty and two weeks: the broad place hath been built again, and the rampart, even in the distress of the times.    
 
26.    After the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One{"Anointed One" can also be translated "Messiah" (same as "Christ").} shall be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince who shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and its end shall be with a flood, and even to the end shall be war; desolations are determined.     And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.     ואחרי  השבעים  ששים

    V'aChUrY HShB'yYM ShShYM VShNYM YKUrTh MShYCh V'aYN LV VH'yYUr VHQDSh YShChYTh 'yM NGYD HB'a VQTShV BShTPh V'yD QTSh MLChMH NChUrTShTh ShMMVTh.     And after the sixty and two weeks, cut off is Messiah, and the city and the holy place are not his, the Leader who hath come doth destroy the people; and its end is with a flood, and till the end is war, determined are desolations.    
 
27.    He shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease; and on the wing of abominations [shall come] one who makes desolate; and even to the full end, and that determined, shall [wrath] be poured out on the desolate.     And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.     והגביר  ברית  לרבים 
שבוע  אחד  וחצי
