    BShNTh ShLVSh LKVUrSh MLK PhUrS DBUr NGLH LDNY'aL 'aShUr-NQUr'a ShMV BLTSh'aTShUr V'aMTh HDBUr VTShB'a GDVL VBYN 'aTh-HDBUr VBYNH LV BMUr'aH.     In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a thing is revealed to Daniel, whose name is called Belteshazzar, and the thing is true, and the warfare is great: and he hath understood the thing, and hath understanding about the appearance.    
 
2.    In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three whole weeks.     In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.     בימים  ההם  אני 
דניאל  הייתי  מתאבל
שלשה  שבעים  ימים׃
    BYMYM HHM 'aNY DNY'aL HYYThY MTh'aBL ShLShH ShB'yYM YMYM.     `In those days, I, Daniel, have been mourning three weeks of days;

    LChM ChMDVTh L'a 'aKLThY VBShUr VYYN L'a-B'a 'aL-PhY VSVK L'a-SKThY 'yD-ML'aTh ShLShTh ShB'yYM YMYM.     desirable bread I have not eaten, and flesh and wine hath not come in unto my mouth, and I have not anointed myself at all, till the completion of three weeks of days.    
 
4.    In the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel,     And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;     וביום  עשרים

    VBYVM 'yShUrYM V'aUrB'yH LChDSh HUr'aShVN V'aNY HYYThY 'yL YD HNHUr HGDVL HV'a ChDQL.     `And in the twenty and fourth day of the first month, I have been by the side of the great river, that is Hiddekel:    
 
5.    I lifted up my eyes, and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, whose thighs were girded with pure gold of Uphaz:     Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:     ואשא  את־עיני  וארא 
והנה  איש־אחד  לבוש
בדים  ומתניו  חגרים
בכתם  אופז׃
    V'aSh'a 'aTh-'yYNY V'aUr'a VHNH 'aYSh-'aChD LBVSh BDYM VMThNYV ChGUrYM BKThM 'aVPhZ.     and I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a certain one clothed in linen, and his loins girt with pure gold of Uphaz,    
 
6.    his body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as flaming torches, and his arms and his feet like burnished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.     His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.     וגויתו  כתרשיש 
ופניו  כמראה  ברק
ועיניו  כלפידי  אש
וזרעתיו  ומרגלתיו
כעין  נחשת  קלל
וקול  דבריו  כקול
המון׃
    VGVYThV KThUrShYSh VPhNYV KMUr'aH BUrQ V'yYNYV KLPhYDY 'aSh VZUr'yThYV VMUrGLThYV K'yYN NChShTh QLL VQVL DBUrYV KQVL HMVN.     and his body as a beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet as the aspect of bright brass, and the voice of his words as the voice of a multitude.    
 
7.    I, Daniel, alone saw the vision; for the men who were with me didn't see the vision; but a great quaking fell on them, and they fled to hide themselves.     And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.     וראיתי  אני  דניאל 
לבדי  את־המראה
והאנשים  אשר  היו
עמי  לא  ראו  את־
המראה  אבל  חרדה
גדלה  נפלה  עליהם
ויברחו  בהחבא׃
    VUr'aYThY 'aNY DNY'aL LBDY 'aTh-HMUr'aH VH'aNShYM 'aShUr HYV 'yMY L'a Ur'aV 'aTh- HMUr'aH 'aBL ChUrDH GDLH NPhLH 'yLYHM VYBUrChV BHChB'a.     `And I have seen -- I, Daniel, by myself -- the appearance: and the men who have been with me have not seen the appearance, but a great trembling hath fallen on them, and they flee to be hidden;    
 
8.    So I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me; for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.     Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.     ואני  נשארתי  לבדי 
ואראה  את־המראה
הגדלה  הזאת  ולא
נשאר־בי  כח  והודי
נהפך  עלי  למשחית
ולא  עצרתי  כח׃
    V'aNY NSh'aUrThY LBDY V'aUr'aH 'aTh-HMUr'aH HGDLH HZ'aTh VL'a NSh'aUr-BY KCh VHVDY NHPhK 'yLY LMShChYTh VL'a 'yTShUrThY KCh.     and I have been left by myself, and I see this great appearance, and there hath been no power left in me, and my honour hath been turned in me to corruption, yea, I have not retained power.    
 
9.    Yet heard I the voice of his words; and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I fallen into a deep sleep on my face, with my face toward the ground.     Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.     ואשמע  את־קול 
דבריו  וכשמעי
את־קול  דבריו  ואני
הייתי  נרדם  על־פני
ופני  ארצה׃
    V'aShM'y 'aTh-QVL DBUrYV VKShM'yY 'aTh-QVL DBUrYV V'aNY HYYThY NUrDM 'yL-PhNY VPhNY 'aUrTShH.     `And I hear the voice of his words, and when I hear the voice of his words, then I have been in a trance on my face, and my face is to the earth;    
 
10.    Behold, a hand touched me, which set me on my knees and on the palms of my hands.     And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.     והנה־יד  נגעה  בי 
ותניעני  על־ברכי
וכפות  ידי׃
    VHNH-YD NG'yH BY VThNY'yNY 'yL-BUrKY VKPhVTh YDY.     and lo, a hand hath come against me, and shaketh me on my knees and the palms of my hands.    
 
11.    He said to me, Daniel, you man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright; for am I now sent to you. When he had spoken this word to me, I stood trembling.     And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.     ויאמר  אלי  דניאל 
איש־חמדות  הבן
בדברים  אשר  אנכי
דבר  אליך  ועמד
על־עמדך  כי  עתה
שלחתי  אליך  ובדברו
עמי  את־הדבר  הזה
עמדתי  מרעיד׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLY DNY'aL 'aYSh-ChMDVTh HBN BDBUrYM 'aShUr 'aNKY DBUr 'aLYK V'yMD 'yL-'yMDK KY 'yThH ShLChThY 'aLYK VBDBUrV 'yMY 'aTh-HDBUr HZH 'yMDThY MUr'yYD.     `And he saith unto me: Daniel, man greatly desired, attend to the words that I am speaking unto thee, and stand on thy station, for now I have been sent unto thee. `And when he speaketh with me this word, I have stood trembling.    
 
12.    Then said he to me, Don't be afraid, Daniel; for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard: and I have come for your words' sake.     Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.     ויאמר  אלי  אל־תירא 
דניאל  כי  מן־היום
הראשון  אשר  נתת
את־לבך  להבין
ולהתענות  לפני
אלהיך  נשמעו  דבריך
ואני־באתי  בדבריך׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLY 'aL-ThYUr'a DNY'aL KY MN-HYVM HUr'aShVN 'aShUr NThTh 'aTh-LBK LHBYN VLHTh'yNVTh LPhNY 'aLHYK NShM'yV DBUrYK V'aNY-B'aThY BDBUrYK.     And he saith unto me: Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that thou didst give thy heart to understand, and to humble thyself before thy God, thy words have been heard, and I have come because of thy words.    
 
13.    But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; but, behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me: and I remained there with the kings of Persia.     But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.     ושר  מלכות  פרס  עמד 
לנגדי  עשרים  ואחד
יום  והנה  מיכאל
אחד  השרים  הראשנים
בא  לעזרני  ואני
נותרתי  שם  אצל
מלכי  פרס׃
    VShUr MLKVTh PhUrS 'yMD LNGDY 'yShUrYM V'aChD YVM VHNH MYK'aL 'aChD HShUrYM HUr'aShNYM B'a L'yZUrNY V'aNY NVThUrThY ShM 'aTShL MLKY PhUrS.     `And the head of the kingdom of Persia is standing over-against me twenty and one days, and lo, Michael, first of the chief heads, hath come in to help me, and I have remained there near the kings of Persia;    
 
14.    Now I have come to make you understand what shall happen to your people in the latter days; for the vision is yet for [many] days:     Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.     ובאתי  להבינך  את 
אשר־יקרה  לעמך
באחרית  הימים
כי־עוד  חזון
לימים׃
    VB'aThY LHBYNK 'aTh 'aShUr-YQUrH L'yMK B'aChUrYTh HYMYM KY-'yVD ChZVN LYMYM.     and I have come to cause thee to understand that which doth happen to thy people in the latter end of the days, for yet the vision is after days.    
 
15.    and when he had spoken to me according to these words, I set my face toward the ground, and was mute.     And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.     ובדברו  עמי  כדברים 
האלה  נתתי  פני
ארצה  ונאלמתי׃
    VBDBUrV 'yMY KDBUrYM H'aLH NThThY PhNY 'aUrTShH VN'aLMThY.     `And when he speaketh with me about these things, I have set my face toward the earth, and have been silent;    
 
16.    Behold, one in the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spoke and said to him who stood before me, my lord, by reason of the vision my sorrows are turned on me, and I retain no strength.     And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.     והנה  כדמות  בני 
אדם  נגע  על־שפתי
ואפתח־פי  ואדברה
ואמרה  אל־העמד
לנגדי  אדני  במראה
נהפכו  צירי  עלי
ולא  עצרתי  כח׃
    VHNH KDMVTh BNY 'aDM NG'y 'yL-ShPhThY V'aPhThCh-PhY V'aDBUrH V'aMUrH 'aL-H'yMD LNGDY 'aDNY BMUr'aH NHPhKV TShYUrY 'yLY VL'a 'yTShUrThY KCh.     and lo, as the manner of the sons of men, he is striking against my lips, and I open my mouth, and I speak, and say unto him who is standing over-against me: My lord, by the appearance turned have been my pangs against me, and I have retained no power.    
 
17.    For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, immediately there remained no strength in me, neither was there breath left in me.     For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.     והיך  יוכל  עבד 
אדני  זה  לדבר
עם־אדני  זה  ואני
מעתה  לא־יעמד־בי
כח  ונשמה  לא
נשארה־בי׃
    VHYK YVKL 'yBD 'aDNY ZH LDBUr 'yM-'aDNY ZH V'aNY M'yThH L'a-Y'yMD-BY KCh VNShMH L'a NSh'aUrH-BY.     And how is the servant of this my lord able to speak with this my lord? as for me, henceforth there remaineth in me no power, yea, breath hath not been left in me.    
 
18.    Then there touched me again one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me.     Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,     ויסף  ויגע־בי 
כמראה  אדם
ויחזקני׃
    VYSPh VYG'y-BY KMUr'aH 'aDM VYChZQNY.     `And he addeth, and striketh against me, as the appearance of a man, and strengtheneth me,    
 
19.    He said, "Greatly beloved man, don't be afraid: peace be to you, be strong, yes, be strong." When he spoke to me, I was strengthened, and said, "Let my lord speak; for you have strengthened me."     And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.     ויאמר  אל־תירא 
איש־חמדות  שלום  לך
חזק  וחזק  וכדברו
עמי  התחזקתי  ואמרה
ידבר  אדני  כי
חזקתני׃
    VY'aMUr 'aL-ThYUr'a 'aYSh-ChMDVTh ShLVM LK ChZQ VChZQ VKDBUrV 'yMY HThChZQThY V'aMUrH YDBUr 'aDNY KY ChZQThNY.     and he saith: Do not fear, O man greatly desired, peace to thee, be strong, yea, be strong; and when he speaketh with me, I have strengthened myself, and I say, Let my lord speak, for thou hast strengthened me.    
 
20.    Then he said, "Do you know why I have come to you? Now I will return to fight with the prince of Persia. When I go forth, behold, the prince of Greece shall come.     Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.     ויאמר  הידעת 
למה־באתי  אליך
ועתה  אשוב  להלחם
עם־שר  פרס  ואני
יוצא  והנה  שר־יון
בא׃
    VY'aMUr HYD'yTh LMH-B'aThY 'aLYK V'yThH 'aShVB LHLChM 'yM-ShUr PhUrS V'aNY YVTSh'a VHNH ShUr-YVN B'a.     And he saith, Hast thou known why I have come unto thee? and now I turn back to fight with the head of Persia; yea, I am going forth, and lo, the head of Javan hath come;    
 
21.    But I will tell you that which is inscribed in the writing of truth: and there is none who holds with me against these, but Michael your prince."     But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.     אבל  אגיד  לך 
את־הרשום  בכתב  אמת
ואין  אחד  מתחזק
עמי  על־אלה  כי
אם־מיכאל  שרכם׃
    'aBL 'aGYD LK 'aTh-HUrShVM BKThB 'aMTh V'aYN 'aChD MThChZQ 'yMY 'yL-'aLH KY 'aM-MYK'aL ShUrKM.     but I declare to thee that which is noted down in the Writing of Truth, and there is not one strengthening himself with me, concerning these, except Michael your head.
