| 1. | The word of Yahweh of Armies came to me. | Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying, |

VYHY DBUr-YHVH TShB'aVTh L'aMUr. | And there is a word of Jehovah of Hosts, saying: | et factum est verbum Domini exercituum dicens | |||||
| 2. | Thus says Yahweh of Armies: "I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath." | Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury. |
כה אמר יהוה צבאות קנאתי לציון קנאה גדולה וחמה גדולה קנאתי לה׃ |
KH 'aMUr YHVH TShB'aVTh QN'aThY LTShYVN QN'aH GDVLH VChMH GDVLH QN'aThY LH. | `Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: I have been zealous for Zion with great zeal, With great heat I have been zealous for her. | haec dicit Dominus exercituum zelatus sum Sion zelo magno et indignatione magna zelatus sum eam | |||||
| 3. | Thus says Yahweh: "I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called 'The City of Truth;' and the mountain of Yahweh of Armies, 'The Holy Mountain.'" | Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. |
כה אמר יהוה שבתי אל־ציון ושכנתי בתוך ירושלם ונקראה ירושלם עיר־ האמת והר־יהוה צבאות הר הקדש׃ |
KH 'aMUr YHVH ShBThY 'aL-TShYVN VShKNThY BThVK YUrVShLM VNQUr'aH YUrVShLM 'yYUr- H'aMTh VHUr-YHVH TShB'aVTh HUr HQDSh. | Thus said Jehovah: I have turned back unto Zion, And I have dwelt in the midst of Jerusalem, And Jerusalem hath been called `The city of truth,` And the mountain of Jehovah of Hosts, `The holy mountain.` | haec dicit Dominus exercituum reversus sum ad Sion et habitabo in medio Hierusalem et vocabitur Hierusalem civitas veritatis et mons Domini exercituum mons sanctificatus | |||||
| 4. | Thus says Yahweh of Armies: "Old men and old women will again dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his hand for very age. | Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age. |
כה אמר יהוה צבאות עד ישבו זקנים וזקנות ברחבות ירושלם ואיש משענתו בידו מרב ימים׃ |
KH 'aMUr YHVH TShB'aVTh 'yD YShBV ZQNYM VZQNVTh BUrChBVTh YUrVShLM V'aYSh MSh'yNThV BYDV MUrB YMYM. | Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Again dwell do old men and old women, In broad places of Jerusalem, And each his staff in his hand, Because of abundance of days. | haec dicit Dominus exercituum adhuc habitabunt senes et anus in plateis Hierusalem et viri baculus in manu eius prae multitudine dierum | |||||
| 5. | The streets of the city will be full of boys and girls playing in its streets." | And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof. |
ורחבות העיר ימלאו ילדים וילדות משחקים ברחבתיה׃ |
VUrChBVTh H'yYUr YML'aV YLDYM VYLDVTh MShChQYM BUrChBThYH. | And broad places of the city are full of boys and girls, Playing in its broad places. | et plateae civitatis conplebuntur infantibus et puellis ludentibus in plateis eius | |||||
| 6. | Thus says Yahweh of Armies: "If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?" says Yahweh of Armies. | Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts. |
כה אמר יהוה צבאות כי יפלא בעיני שארית העם הזה בימים ההם גם־ בעיני יפלא נאם יהוה צבאות׃ |
KH 'aMUr YHVH TShB'aVTh KY YPhL'a B'yYNY Sh'aUrYTh H'yM HZH BYMYM HHM GM- B'yYNY YPhL'a N'aM YHVH TShB'aVTh. | Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Surely it is wonderful in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, Also in Mine eyes it is wonderful, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts. | haec dicit Dominus exercituum si difficile videbitur in oculis reliquiarum populi huius in diebus illis numquid in oculis meis difficile erit dicit Dominus exercituum | |||||
| 7. | Thus says Yahweh of Armies: "Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country; | Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country; |
כה אמר יהוה צבאות הנני מושיע את־עמי מארץ מזרח ומארץ מבוא השמש׃ |
KH 'aMUr YHVH TShB'aVTh HNNY MVShY'y 'aTh-'yMY M'aUrTSh MZUrCh VM'aUrTSh MBV'a HShMSh. | Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Lo, I am saving My people from the land of the rising, And from the land of the going in, of the sun, | haec dicit Dominus exercituum ecce ego salvabo populum meum de terra orientis et de terra occasus solis | |||||
| 8. | and I will bring them, and they will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they will be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness." | And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness. |
והבאתי אתם ושכנו בתוך ירושלם והיו־לי לעם ואני אהיה להם לאלהים באמת ובצדקה׃ |
VHB'aThY 'aThM VShKNV BThVK YUrVShLM VHYV-LY L'yM V'aNY 'aHYH LHM L'aLHYM B'aMTh VBTShDQH. | And I have brought them in, They have dwelt in the midst of Jerusalem, And they have been to Me for a people, And I am to them for God, In truth and in righteousness. | et adducam eos et habitabunt in medio Hierusalem et erunt mihi in populum et ego ero eis in Deum in veritate et iustitia | |||||
| 9. | Thus says Yahweh of Armies: "Let your hands be strong, you who hear in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets who were in the day that the foundation of the house of Yahweh of Armies was laid, even the temple, that it might be built. | Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built. |
כה־אמר יהוה צבאות תחזקנה ידיכם השמעים בימים האלה את הדברים האלה מפי הנביאים אשר ביום יסד בית־יהוה צבאות ההיכל להבנות׃ |
KH-'aMUr YHVH TShB'aVTh ThChZQNH YDYKM HShM'yYM BYMYM H'aLH 'aTh HDBUrYM H'aLH MPhY HNBY'aYM 'aShUr BYVM YSD BYTh-YHVH TShB'aVTh HHYKL LHBNVTh. | Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Let your hands be strong, Ye who are hearing in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets, That in the day the house of Jehovah of Hosts Hath been founded, the temple is to be built. | haec dicit Dominus exercituum confortentur manus vestrae qui auditis in diebus his sermones istos per os prophetarum in die qua fundata est domus Domini exercituum ut templum aedificaretur | |||||
| 10. | For before those days there was no wages for man, nor any wages for an animal; neither was there any peace to him who went out or came in, because of the adversary. For I set all men everyone against his neighbor. | For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour. |
כי לפני הימים ההם שכר האדם לא נהיה ושכר הבהמה איננה וליוצא ולבא אין־שלום מן־הצר ואשלח את־כל־האדם איש ברעהו׃ |
KY LPhNY HYMYM HHM ShKUr H'aDM L'a NHYH VShKUr HBHMH 'aYNNH VLYVTSh'a VLB'a 'aYN-ShLVM MN-HTShUr V'aShLCh 'aTh-KL-H'aDM 'aYSh BUr'yHV. | For, before those days there hath been no hiring of man, Yea, a hiring of beasts there is none; And to him who is going out, And to him who is coming in, There is no peace because of the adversary, And I send all men -- each against his neighbour. | siquidem ante dies illos merces hominum non erat nec merces iumentorum erat neque introeunti et exeunti erat pax prae tribulatione et dimisi omnes homines unumquemque contra proximum suum | |||||
| 11. | But now I will not be to the remnant of this people as in the former days," says Yahweh of Armies. | But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former days, saith the LORD of hosts. |
ועתה לא כימים הראשנים אני לשארית העם הזה נאם יהוה צבאות׃ |
V'yThH L'a KYMYM HUr'aShNYM 'aNY LSh'aUrYTh H'yM HZH N'aM YHVH TShB'aVTh. | And now, not as in the former days am I to the remnant of this people, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts. | nunc autem non iuxta dies priores ego faciam reliquiis populi huius dicit Dominus exercituum | |||||
| 12. | "For the seed of peace and the vine will yield its fruit, and the ground will give its increase, and the heavens will give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things. | For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things. |
כי־זרע השלום הגפן תתן פריה והארץ תתן את־יבולה והשמים יתנו טלם והנחלתי את־שארית העם הזה את־כל־אלה׃ |
KY-ZUr'y HShLVM HGPhN ThThN PhUrYH VH'aUrTSh ThThN 'aTh-YBVLH VHShMYM YThNV TLM VHNChLThY 'aTh-Sh'aUrYTh H'yM HZH 'aTh-KL-'aLH. | Because of the sowing of peace, The vine doth give her fruit, And the earth doth give her increase, And the heavens do give their dew, And I have caused the remnant of this people To inherit all these. | sed semen pacis erit vinea dabit fructum suum et terra dabit germen suum et caeli dabunt rorem suum et possidere faciam reliquias populi huius universa haec | |||||
| 13. | It shall come to pass that, as you were a curse among the nations, house of Judah and house of Israel, so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing. Don't be afraid. Let your hands be strong." | And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong. |
והיה כאשר הייתם קללה בגוים בית יהודה ובית ישראל כן אושיע אתכם והייתם ברכה אל־תיראו תחזקנה ידיכם׃ |
VHYH K'aShUr HYYThM QLLH BGVYM BYTh YHVDH VBYTh YShUr'aL KN 'aVShY'y 'aThKM VHYYThM BUrKH 'aL-ThYUr'aV ThChZQNH YDYKM. | And it hath come to pass, As ye have been a reviling among nations, O house of Judah, and house of Israel, So I save you, and ye have been a blessing, Do not fear, let your hands be strong. | et erit sicut eratis maledictio in gentibus domus Iuda et domus Israhel sic salvabo vos et eritis benedictio nolite timere confortentur manus vestrae | |||||
| 14. | For thus says Yahweh of Armies: "As I thought to do evil to you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath," says Yahweh of Armies, "and I didn't repent; | For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not: |
כי כה אמר יהוה צבאות כאשר זממתי להרע לכם בהקציף אבתיכם אתי אמר יהוה צבאות ולא נחמתי׃ |
KY KH 'aMUr YHVH TShB'aVTh K'aShUr ZMMThY LHUr'y LKM BHQTShYPh 'aBThYKM 'aThY 'aMUr YHVH TShB'aVTh VL'a NChMThY. | For, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, As I did purpose to do evil to you, When your fathers made Me wroth, Said Jehovah of Hosts, and I did not repent, | quia haec dicit Dominus exercituum sicut cogitavi ut adfligerem vos cum ad iracundiam provocassent patres vestri me dicit Dominus | |||||
| 15. | so again have I thought in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Don't be afraid. | So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not. |
כן שבתי זממתי בימים האלה להיטיב את־ירושלם ואת־בית יהודה אל־ תיראו׃ |
KN ShBThY ZMMThY BYMYM H'aLH LHYTYB 'aTh-YUrVShLM V'aTh-BYTh YHVDH 'aL- ThYUr'aV. | So I have turned back, I have purposed, in these days, To do good with Jerusalem, And with the house of Judah -- fear not! | et non sum misertus sic conversus cogitavi in diebus istis ut benefaciam Hierusalem et domui Iuda nolite timere | |||||
| 16. | These are the things that you shall do: speak every man the truth with his neighbor. Execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates, | These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: |
אלה הדברים אשר תעשו דברו אמת איש את־רעהו אמת ומשפט שלום שפטו בשעריכם׃ |
'aLH HDBUrYM 'aShUr Th'yShV DBUrV 'aMTh 'aYSh 'aTh-Ur'yHV 'aMTh VMShPhT ShLVM ShPhTV BSh'yUrYKM. | These are the things that ye do: Speak ye truth each with his neighbour, Truth and peaceful judgment judge in your gates, | haec sunt ergo verba quae facietis loquimini veritatem unusquisque cum proximo suo veritatem et iudicium pacis iudicate in portis vestris | |||||
| 17. | and let none of you devise evil in your hearts against his neighbor, and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate," says Yahweh. | And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD. |
ואיש את־רעת רעהו אל־תחשבו בלבבכם ושבעת שקר אל־תאהבו כי את־כל־ אלה אשר שנאתי נאם־יהוה׃ |
V'aYSh 'aTh-Ur'yTh Ur'yHV 'aL-ThChShBV BLBBKM VShB'yTh ShQUr 'aL-Th'aHBV KY 'aTh-KL- 'aLH 'aShUr ShN'aThY N'aM-YHVH. | And each the evil of his neighbour ye do not devise in your heart, And a false oath ye do not love, For all these are things that I have hated, An affirmation of Jehovah.` | et unusquisque malum contra amicum suum ne cogitetis in cordibus vestris et iuramentum mendax ne diligatis omnia enim haec sunt quae odi dicit Dominus | |||||

VYHY DBUr-YHVH TShB'aVTh 'aLY L'aMUr. | And there is a word of Jehovah of Hosts unto me, saying: | et factum est verbum Domini exercituum ad me dicens | |||||
| 19. | Thus says Yahweh of Armies: "The fasts of the fourth fifth, seventh, and tenth months shall be for the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts. Therefore love truth and peace." | Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace. |
כה־אמר יהוה צבאות צום הרביעי וצום החמישי וצום השביעי וצום העשירי יהיה לבית־יהודה לששון ולשמחה ולמעדים טובים והאמת והשלום אהבו׃ |

| 20. | Thus says Yahweh of Armies: "Many peoples, and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come; | Thus saith the LORD of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities: |
כה אמר יהוה צבאות עד אשר יבאו עמים וישבי ערים רבות׃ |
KH 'aMUr YHVH TShB'aVTh 'yD 'aShUr YB'aV 'yMYM VYShBY 'yUrYM UrBVTh. | Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Yet come do peoples, and inhabitants of many cities, | haec dicit Dominus exercituum usquequo veniant populi et habitent in civitatibus multis | |||||
| 21. | and the inhabitants of one shall go to another, saying, 'Let us go speedily to entreat the favor of Yahweh, and to seek Yahweh of Armies. I will go also.' | And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also. |
והלכו ישבי אחת אל־אחת לאמר נלכה הלוך לחלות את־פני יהוה ולבקש את־יהוה צבאות אלכה גם־אני׃ |
VHLKV YShBY 'aChTh 'aL-'aChTh L'aMUr NLKH HLVK LChLVTh 'aTh-PhNY YHVH VLBQSh 'aTh-YHVH TShB'aVTh 'aLKH GM-'aNY. | Yea, gone have inhabitants of one To another, saying: We go diligently, To appease the face of Jehovah, To seek Jehovah of Hosts -- I go, even I. | et vadant habitatores unus ad alterum dicentes eamus et deprecemur faciem Domini et quaeramus Dominum exercituum vadam etiam ego | |||||
| 22. | Yes, many peoples and strong nations will come to seek Yahweh of Armies in Jerusalem, and to entreat the favor of Yahweh." | Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD. |
ובאו עמים רבים וגוים עצומים לבקש את־יהוה צבאות בירושלם ולחלות את־פני יהוה׃ |
VB'aV 'yMYM UrBYM VGVYM 'yTShVMYM LBQSh 'aTh-YHVH TShB'aVTh BYUrVShLM VLChLVTh 'aTh-PhNY YHVH. | Yea, come in have many peoples, and mighty nations, To seek Jehovah of Hosts in Jerusalem, And to appease the face of Jehovah. | et venient populi multi et gentes robustae ad quaerendum Dominum exercituum in Hierusalem et deprecandam faciem Domini | |||||
| 23. | Thus says Yahweh of Armies: "In those days, ten men will take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they will take hold of the skirt of him who is a Jew, saying, 'We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.'" | Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you. |
