1.    If one be found slain in the land which Yahweh your God gives you to possess it, lying in the field, and it isn't known who has struck him;     If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:     כי־ימצא  חלל  באדמה 
אשר  יהוה  אלהיך
נתן  לך  לרשתה  נפל
בשדה  לא  נודע  מי
הכהו׃
    KY-YMTSh'a ChLL B'aDMH 'aShUr YHVH 'aLHYK NThN LK LUrShThH NPhL BShDH L'a NVD'y MY HKHV.     `When one is found slain on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee to possess it -- fallen in a field -- it is not known who hath smitten him,     quando inventum fuerit in terra quam Dominus Deus tuus daturus est tibi hominis cadaver occisi et ignoratur caedis reus
 
2.    then your elders and your judges shall come forth, and they shall measure to the cities which are around him who is slain:     Then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain:     ויצאו  זקניך 
ושפטיך  ומדדו
אל־הערים  אשר
סביבת  החלל׃
    VYTSh'aV ZQNYK VShPhTYK VMDDV 'aL-H'yUrYM 'aShUr SBYBTh HChLL.     then have thine elders and thy judges gone out and measured unto the cities which are round about the slain one,     egredientur maiores natu et iudices tui et metientur a loco cadaveris singularum per circuitum spatia civitatum
 
3.    and it shall be, that the city which is nearest to the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer of the herd, which hasn't been worked with, and which has not drawn in the yoke;     And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;     והיה  העיר  הקרבה 
אל־החלל  ולקחו
זקני  העיר  ההוא
עגלת  בקר  אשר  לא־
עבד  בה  אשר
לא־משכה  בעל׃
    VHYH H'yYUr HQUrBH 'aL-HChLL VLQChV ZQNY H'yYUr HHV'a 'yGLTh BQUr 'aShUr L'a- 'yBD BH 'aShUr L'a-MShKH B'yL.     and it hath been, the city which is near unto the slain one, even the elders of that city have taken a heifer of the herd, which hath not been wrought with, which hath not drawn in the yoke,     et quam viciniorem ceteris esse perspexerint seniores civitatis eius tollent vitulam de armento quae non traxit iugum nec terram scidit vomere
 
4.    and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer's neck there in the valley.     And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer's neck there in the valley:     והורדו  זקני  העיר 
ההוא  את־העגלה
אל־נחל  איתן  אשר
לא־יעבד  בו  ולא
יזרע  וערפו־שם
את־העגלה  בנחל׃
    VHVUrDV ZQNY H'yYUr HHV'a 'aTh-H'yGLH 'aL-NChL 'aYThN 'aShUr L'a-Y'yBD BV VL'a YZUr'y V'yUrPhV-ShM 'aTh-H'yGLH BNChL.     and the elders of that city have brought down the heifer unto a hard valley, which is not tilled nor sown, and have beheaded there the heifer in the valley.     et ducent eam ad vallem asperam atque saxosam quae numquam arata est nec sementem recepit et caedent in ea cervices vitulae
 
5.    The priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them Yahweh your God has chosen to minister to him, and to bless in the name of Yahweh; and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be.     And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried:     ונגשו  הכהנים  בני 
לוי  כי  בם  בחר
יהוה  אלהיך  לשרתו
ולברך  בשם  יהוה
ועל־פיהם  יהיה
כל־ריב  וכל־נגע׃
    VNGShV HKHNYM BNY LVY KY BM BChUr YHVH 'aLHYK LShUrThV VLBUrK BShM YHVH V'yL-PhYHM YHYH KL-UrYB VKL-NG'y.     `And the priests, sons of Levi, have come nigh -- for on them hath Jehovah thy God fixed to serve Him, and to bless in the name of Jehovah, and by their mouth is every strife, and every stroke --     accedentque sacerdotes filii Levi quos elegerit Dominus Deus tuus ut ministrent ei et benedicant in nomine eius et ad verbum eorum omne negotium et quicquid mundum vel inmundum est iudicetur
 
6.    All the elders of that city, who are nearest to the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley;     And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:     וכל  זקני  העיר 
ההוא  הקרבים
אל־החלל  ירחצו
את־ידיהם  על־העגלה
הערופה  בנחל׃
    VKL ZQNY H'yYUr HHV'a HQUrBYM 'aL-HChLL YUrChTShV 'aTh-YDYHM 'yL-H'yGLH H'yUrVPhH BNChL.     and all the elders of that city, who are near unto the slain one, do wash their hands over the heifer which is beheaded in the valley,     et maiores natu civitatis illius ad interfectum lavabuntque manus suas super vitulam quae in valle percussa est
 
7.    and they shall answer and say, "Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.     And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.     וענו  ואמרו  ידינו 
לא  שפכה  את־הדם
הזה  ועינינו  לא
ראו׃
    V'yNV V'aMUrV YDYNV L'a ShPhKH 'aTh-HDM HZH V'yYNYNV L'a Ur'aV.     and they have answered and said, Our hands have not shed this blood, and our eyes have not seen --     et dicent manus nostrae non effuderunt hunc sanguinem nec oculi viderunt
 
8.    Forgive, Yahweh, your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and don't allow innocent blood [to remain] in the midst of your people Israel." The blood shall be forgiven them.     Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.     כפר  לעמך  ישראל 
אשר־פדית  יהוה
ואל־תתן  דם  נקי
בקרב  עמך  ישראל
ונכפר  להם  הדם׃
    KPhUr L'yMK YShUr'aL 'aShUr-PhDYTh YHVH V'aL-ThThN DM NQY BQUrB 'yMK YShUr'aL VNKPhUr LHM HDM.     receive atonement for Thy people Israel, whom Thou hast ransomed, O Jehovah, and suffer not innocent blood in the midst of Thy people Israel; and the blood hath been pardoned to them,     propitius esto populo tuo Israhel quem redemisti Domine et non reputes sanguinem innocentem in medio populi tui Israhel et auferetur ab eis reatus sanguinis
 
9.    So you shall put away the innocent blood from the midst of you, when you shall do that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh.     So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.     ואתה  תבער  הדם 
הנקי  מקרבך
כי־תעשה  הישר
בעיני  יהוה׃
    V'aThH ThB'yUr HDM HNQY MQUrBK KY-Th'yShH HYShUr B'yYNY YHVH.     and thou dost put away the innocent blood out of thy midst, for thou dost that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.     tu autem alienus eris ab innocentis cruore qui fusus est cum feceris quod praecepit Dominus
 
10.    When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and Yahweh your God delivers them into your hands, and you carry them away captive,     When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,     כי־תצא  למלחמה 
על־איביך  ונתנו
יהוה  אלהיך  בידך
ושבית  שביו׃
    KY-ThTSh'a LMLChMH 'yL-'aYBYK VNThNV YHVH 'aLHYK BYDK VShBYTh ShBYV.     `When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and Jehovah thy God hath given them into thy hand, and thou hast taken captive its captivity,     si egressus fueris ad pugnam contra inimicos tuos et tradiderit eos Dominus Deus tuus in manu tua captivosque duxeris
 
11.    and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you have a desire to her, and would take her to you as wife;     And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;     וראית  בשביה  אשת 
יפת־תאר  וחשקת  בה
ולקחת  לך  לאשה׃
    VUr'aYTh BShBYH 'aShTh YPhTh-Th'aUr VChShQTh BH VLQChTh LK L'aShH.     and hast seen in the captivity a woman of fair form, and hast delighted in her, and hast taken to thee for a wife,     et videris in numero captivorum mulierem pulchram et adamaveris eam voluerisque habere uxorem
 
12.    then you shall bring her home to your house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;     Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;     והבאתה  אל־תוך 
ביתך  וגלחה
את־ראשה  ועשתה
את־צפרניה׃
    VHB'aThH 'aL-ThVK BYThK VGLChH 'aTh-Ur'aShH V'yShThH 'aTh-TShPhUrNYH.     then thou hast brought her in unto the midst of thy household, and she hath shaved her head, and prepared her nails,     introduces in domum tuam quae radet caesariem et circumcidet ungues
 
13.    and she shall put the clothing of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in your house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that you shall go in to her, and be her husband, and she shall be your wife.     And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.     והסירה  את־שמלת 
שביה  מעליה  וישבה
בביתך  ובכתה
את־אביה  ואת־אמה
ירח  ימים  ואחר  כן
תבוא  אליה  ובעלתה
והיתה  לך  לאשה׃
    VHSYUrH 'aTh-ShMLTh ShBYH M'yLYH VYShBH BBYThK VBKThH 'aTh-'aBYH V'aTh-'aMH YUrCh YMYM V'aChUr KN ThBV'a 'aLYH VB'yLThH VHYThH LK L'aShH.     and turned aside the raiment of her captivity from off her, and hath dwelt in thy house, and bewailed her father and her mother a month of days, and afterwards thou dost go in unto her and hast married her, and she hath been to thee for a wife:     et deponet vestem in qua capta est sedensque in domo tua flebit patrem et matrem suam uno mense et postea intrabis ad eam dormiesque cum illa et erit uxor tua
 
14.    It shall be, if you have no delight in her, then you shall let her go where she will; but you shall not sell her at all for money, you shall not deal with her as a slave, because you have humbled her.     And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.     והיה  אם־לא  חפצת 
בה  ושלחתה  לנפשה
ומכר  לא־תמכרנה
בכסף  לא־תתעמר  בה
תחת  אשר  עניתה׃
    VHYH 'aM-L'a ChPhTShTh BH VShLChThH LNPhShH VMKUr L'a-ThMKUrNH BKSPh L'a-ThTh'yMUr BH ThChTh 'aShUr 'yNYThH.     `And it hath been -- if thou hast not delighted in her, that thou hast sent her away at her desire, and thou dost not at all sell her for money; thou dost not tyrannize over her, because that thou hast humbled her.     sin autem postea non sederit animo tuo dimittes eam liberam nec vendere poteris pecunia nec opprimere per potentiam quia humiliasti eam
 
15.    If a man have two wives, the one beloved, and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers who was hated;     If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated:     כי־תהיין  לאיש  שתי 
נשים  האחת  אהובה
והאחת  שנואה
וילדו־לו  בנים
האהובה  והשנואה
והיה  הבן  הבכר
לשניאה׃
    KY-ThHYYN L'aYSh ShThY NShYM H'aChTh 'aHVBH VH'aChTh ShNV'aH VYLDV-LV BNYM H'aHVBH VHShNV'aH VHYH HBN HBKUr LShNY'aH.     `When a man hath two wives, the one loved and the other hated, and they have borne to him sons (the loved one and the hated one), and the first-born son hath been to the hated one;     si habuerit homo uxores duas unam dilectam et alteram odiosam genuerintque ex eo liberos et fuerit filius odiosae primogenitus
 
16.    then it shall be, in the day that he causes his sons to inherit that which he has, that he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn before the son of the hated, who is the firstborn:     Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:     והיה  ביום  הנחילו 
את־בניו  את
אשר־יהיה  לו  לא
יוכל  לבכר  את־בן־
האהובה  על־פני
בן־השנואה  הבכר׃
    VHYH BYVM HNChYLV 'aTh-BNYV 'aTh 'aShUr-YHYH LV L'a YVKL LBKUr 'aTh-BN- H'aHVBH 'yL-PhNY BN-HShNV'aH HBKUr.     then it hath been, in the day of his causing his sons to inherit that which he hath, he is not able to declare first-born the son of the loved one, in the face of the son of the hated one -- the first-born.     volueritque substantiam inter filios suos dividere non poterit filium dilectae facere primogenitum et praeferre filio odiosae
 
17.    but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.     But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.     כי  את־הבכר 
בן־השנואה  יכיר
לתת  לו  פי  שנים
בכל  אשר־ימצא  לו
כי־  הוא  ראשית  אנו
לו  משפט  הבכרה׃
    KY 'aTh-HBKUr BN-HShNV'aH YKYUr LThTh LV PhY ShNYM BKL 'aShUr-YMTSh'a LV KY- HV'a Ur'aShYTh 'aNV LV MShPhT HBKUrH.     But the first-born, son of the hated one, he doth acknowledge, to give to him a double portion of all that is found with him, for he is the beginning of his strength; to him is the right of the first-born.     sed filium odiosae agnoscet primogenitum dabitque ei de his quae habuerit cuncta duplicia iste est enim principium liberorum eius et huic debentur primogenita
 
18.    If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not listen to them;     If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:     כי־יהיה  לאיש  בן 
סורר  ומורה  איננו
שמע  בקול  אביו
ובקול  אמו  ויסרו
אתו  ולא  ישמע
אליהם׃
    KY-YHYH L'aYSh BN SVUrUr VMVUrH 'aYNNV ShM'y BQVL 'aBYV VBQVL 'aMV VYSUrV 'aThV VL'a YShM'y 'aLYHM.     `When a man hath a son apostatizing and rebellious -- he is not hearkening to the voice of his father, and to the voice of his mother, and they have chastised him, and he doth not hearken unto them --     si genuerit homo filium contumacem et protervum qui non audiat patris aut matris imperium et coercitus oboedire contempserit
 
19.    then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out to the elders of his city, and to the gate of his place;     Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;     ותפשו  בו  אביו

    VThPhShV BV 'aBYV V'aMV VHVTShY'aV 'aThV 'aL-ZQNY 'yYUrV V'aL-Sh'yUr MQMV.     then laid hold on him have his father and his mother, and they have brought him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place,     adprehendent eum et ducent ad seniores civitatis illius et ad portam iudicii
 
20.    and they shall tell the elders of his city, "This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard."     And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.     ואמרו  אל־זקני 
עירו  בננו  זה  סורר
ומרה  איננו  שמע
בקלנו  זולל  וסבא׃
    V'aMUrV 'aL-ZQNY 'yYUrV BNNV ZH SVUrUr VMUrH 'aYNNV ShM'y BQLNV ZVLL VSB'a.     and have said unto the elders of his city, Our son -- this one -- is apostatizing and rebellious; he is not hearkening to our voice -- a glutton and drunkard;     dicentque ad eos filius noster iste protervus et contumax est monita nostra audire contemnit comesationibus vacat et luxuriae atque conviviis
 
21.    All the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.     And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.     ורגמהו  כל־אנשי 
עירו  באבנים  ומת
ובערת  הרע  מקרבך
וכל־ישראל  ישמעו
ויראו׃
    VUrGMHV KL-'aNShY 'yYUrV B'aBNYM VMTh VB'yUrTh HUr'y MQUrBK VKL-YShUr'aL YShM'yV VYUr'aV.     and all the men of his city have stoned him with stones, and he hath died, and thou hast put away the evil out of thy midst, and all Israel do hear and fear.     lapidibus eum obruet populus civitatis et morietur ut auferatis malum de medio vestri et universus Israhel audiens pertimescat
 
22.    If a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and you hang him on a tree;     And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:     וכי־יהיה  באיש  חטא 
משפט־מות  והומת
ותלית  אתו  על־עץ׃
    VKY-YHYH B'aYSh ChT'a MShPhT-MVTh VHVMTh VThLYTh 'aThV 'yL-'yTSh.     `And when there is in a man a sin -- a cause of death, and he hath been put to death, and thou hast hanged him on a tree,     quando peccaverit homo quod morte plectendum est et adiudicatus morti adpensus fuerit in patibulo
 
23.    his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him the same day; for he who is hanged is accursed of God; that you don't defile your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance.     His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.     לא־תלין  נבלתו 
על־העץ  כי־קבור
תקברנו  ביום  ההוא
כי־קללת  אלהים
תלוי  ולא  תטמא
את־אדמתך  אשר  יהוה
אלהיך  נתן  לך
נחלה׃
    L'a-ThLYN NBLThV 'yL-H'yTSh KY-QBVUr ThQBUrNV BYVM HHV'a KY-QLLTh 'aLHYM ThLVY VL'a ThTM'a 'aTh-'aDMThK 'aShUr YHVH 'aLHYK NThN LK NChLH.     his corpse doth not remain on the tree, for thou dost certainly bury him in that day -- for a thing lightly esteemed of God is the hanged one -- and thou dost not defile thy ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- an inheritance.     non permanebit cadaver eius in ligno sed in eadem die sepelietur quia maledictus a Deo est qui pendet in ligno et nequaquam contaminabis terram tuam quam Dominus Deus tuus dederit tibi in possessionem
