1.    In like manner, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don't obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word;     Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;     ομοιως [αι] γυναικες υποτασσομεναι τοις ιδιοις ανδρασιν ινα και ει τινες απειθουσιν τω λογω δια της των γυναικων αναστροφης ανευ λογου κερδηθησονται     In like manner, the wives, be ye subject to your own husbands, that even if certain are disobedient to the word, through the conversation of the wives, without the word, they may be won,     similiter mulieres subditae suis viris ut et si qui non credunt verbo per mulierum conversationem sine verbo lucri fiant
 
2.    seeing your pure behavior in fear.     While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.     εποπτευσαντες την εν φοβω αγνην αναστροφην υμων     having beheld your pure behaviour in fear,     considerantes in timore castam conversationem vestram
 
3.    Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing;     Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;     ων εστω ουχ ο εξωθεν εμπλοκης τριχων και περιθεσεως χρυσιων η ενδυσεως ιματιων κοσμος     whose adorning -- let it not be that which is outward, of plaiting of hair, and of putting around of things of gold, or of putting on of garments,     quarum sit non extrinsecus capillaturae aut circumdatio auri aut indumenti vestimentorum cultus
 
4.    but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God very precious.     But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.     αλλ ο κρυπτος της καρδιας ανθρωπος εν τω αφθαρτω του πραεωσ και ησυχιου πνευματος ο εστιν ενωπιον του θεου πολυτελες     but -- the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible thing of the meek and quiet spirit, which is, before God, of great price,     sed qui absconditus cordis est homo in incorruptibilitate quieti et modesti spiritus quod est in conspectu Dei locuples
 
5.    For this is how the holy women before, who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:     For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:     ουτως γαρ ποτε και αι αγιαι γυναικες αι ελπιζουσαι εισ  θεον εκοσμουν εαυτας υποτασσομεναι τοις ιδιοις ανδρασιν     for thus once also the holy women who did hope on God, were adorning themselves, being subject to their own husbands,     sic enim aliquando et sanctae mulieres sperantes in Deo ornabant se subiectae propriis viris
 
6.    as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are, if you do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.     Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.     ως σαρρα υπηκουσεν τω αβρααμ κυριον αυτον καλουσα ης εγενηθητε τεκνα αγαθοποιουσαι και μη φοβουμεναι μηδεμιαν πτοησιν     as Sarah was obedient to Abraham, calling him `sir,` of whom ye did become daughters, doing good, and not fearing any terror.     sicut Sarra oboediebat Abrahae dominum eum vocans cuius estis filiae benefacientes et non timentes ullam perturbationem
 
7.    You husbands, in like manner, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers may not be hindered.     Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.     οι ανδρες ομοιως συνοικουντες κατα γνωσιν ως ασθενεστερω σκευει τω γυναικειω απονεμοντες τιμην ως και συγκληρονομοισ χαριτος ζωης εις το μη εγκοπτεσθαι τας προσευχας υμων     The husbands, in like manner, dwelling with them, according to knowledge, as to a weaker vessel -- to the wife -- imparting honour, as also being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered.     viri similiter cohabitantes secundum scientiam quasi infirmiori vaso muliebri inpertientes honorem tamquam et coheredibus gratiae vitae uti ne inpediantur orationes vestrae
 
8.    Finally, be all like-minded, compassionate, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, courteous,     Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:     το δε τελος παντες ομοφρονες συμπαθεις φιλαδελφοι ευσπλαγχνοι ταπεινοφρονεσ     And finally, being all of one mind, having fellow-feeling, loving as brethren, compassionate, courteous,     in fine autem omnes unianimes conpatientes fraternitatis amatores misericordes humiles
 
9.    not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult; but instead blessing; knowing that to this were you called, that you may inherit a blessing.     Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.     μη αποδιδοντες κακον αντι κακου η λοιδοριαν αντι λοιδοριας τουναντιον δε ευλογουντες οτι εις τουτο εκληθητε ινα ευλογιαν κληρονομησητε     not giving back evil for evil, or railing for railing, and on the contrary, blessing, having known that to this ye were called, that a blessing ye may inherit;     non reddentes malum pro malo vel maledictum pro maledicto sed e contrario benedicentes quia in hoc vocati estis ut benedictionem hereditate possideatis
 
10.    For, "He who would love life, and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.     For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:     ο γαρ θελων ζωην αγαπαν και ιδειν ημερας αγαθας παυσατω την γλωσσαν απο κακου και χειλη του μη λαλησαι δολον     for `he who is willing to love life, and to see good days, let him guard his tongue from evil, and his lips -- not to speak guile;     qui enim vult vitam diligere et videre dies bonos coerceat linguam suam a malo et labia eius ne loquantur dolum
 
11.    Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.     Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.     εκκλινατω δε απο κακου και ποιησατω αγαθον ζητησατω ειρηνην και διωξατω αυτην     let him turn aside from evil, and do good, let him seek peace and pursue it;     declinet autem a malo et faciat bonum inquirat pacem et persequatur eam
 
12.    For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."{Psalm 34:12-16}     For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.     οτι οφθαλμοι κυριου επι δικαιους και ωτα αυτου εις δεησιν αυτων προσωπον δε κυριου επι ποιουντας κακα     because the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears -- to their supplication, and the face of the Lord is upon those doing evil;`     quia oculi Domini super iustos et aures eius in preces eorum vultus autem Domini super facientes mala
 
13.    Now who is he who will harm you, if you become imitators of that which is good?     And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?     και τις ο κακωσων υμας εαν του αγαθου ζηλωται γενησθε     and who is he who will be doing you evil, if of Him who is good ye may become imitators?     et quis est qui vobis noceat si boni aemulatores fueritis
 
14.    But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "Don't fear what they fear, neither be troubled."{Isaiah 8:12}     But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;     αλλ ει και πασχοιτε δια δικαιοσυνην μακαριοι τον δε φοβον αυτων μη φοβηθητε μηδε ταραχθητε     but if ye also should suffer because of righteousness, happy are ye! and of their fear be not afraid, nor be troubled,     sed et si quid patimini propter iustitiam beati timorem autem eorum ne timueritis et non conturbemini
 
15.    But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear:     But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:     κυριον δε τον χριστον αγιασατε εν ταις καρδιαις υμων ετοιμοι αει προς απολογιαν παντι τω αιτουντι υμας λογον περι της εν υμιν ελπιδος αλλα μετα πραυτητος και φοβου     and the Lord God sanctify in your hearts. And be ready always for defence to every one who is asking of you an account concerning the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;     Dominum autem Christum sanctificate in cordibus vestris parati semper ad satisfactionem omni poscenti vos rationem de ea quae in vobis est spe
 
16.    having a good conscience; that, while you are spoken against as evildoers, they may be disappointed who curse your good manner of life in Christ.     Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.     συνειδησιν εχοντες αγαθην ινα εν ω καταλαλεισθε   καταισχυνθωσιν οι επηρεαζοντες υμων την αγαθην εν χριστω αναστροφην     having a good conscience, that in that in which they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who are traducing your good behaviour in Christ;     sed cum modestia et timore conscientiam habentes bonam ut in eo quod detrahunt vobis confundantur qui calumniantur vestram bonam in Christo conversationem
 
17.    For it is better, if it is God's will, that you suffer for doing well than for doing evil.     For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.     κρειττον γαρ αγαθοποιουντας ει θελοι το θελημα του θεου πασχειν η κακοποιουντας     for it is better doing good, if the will of God will it, to suffer, than doing evil;     melius est enim benefacientes si velit voluntas Dei pati quam malefacientes
 
18.    Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;     For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:     οτι και χριστος απαξ περι αμαρτιων επαθεν δικαιος υπερ αδικων ινα υμασ προσαγαγη τω θεω θανατωθεις μεν σαρκι ζωοποιηθεις δε πνευματι     because also Christ once for sin did suffer -- righteous for unrighteous -- that he might lead us to God, having been put to death indeed, in the flesh, and having been made alive in the spirit,     quia et Christus semel pro peccatis mortuus est iustus pro iniustis ut nos offerret Deo mortificatus carne vivificatus autem spiritu
 
19.    in which he also went and preached to the spirits in prison,     By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;     εν ω και τοις εν φυλακη πνευμασιν πορευθεις εκηρυξεν     in which also to the spirits in prison having gone he did preach,     in quo et his qui in carcere erant spiritibus veniens praedicavit
 
20.    who before were disobedient, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, while the ship was being built. In it, few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.     Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.     απειθησασιν ποτε οτε απεξεδεχετο  η του θεου μακροθυμια εν ημεραις νωε κατασκευαζομενης κιβωτου εις ην ολιγοι τουτ εστιν οκτω ψυχαι διεσωθησαν δι υδατος     who sometime disbelieved, when once the long-suffering of God did wait, in days of Noah -- an ark being preparing -- in which few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water;     qui increduli fuerant aliquando quando expectabat Dei patientia in diebus Noe cum fabricaretur arca in qua pauci id est octo animae salvae factae sunt per aquam
 
21.    This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,     The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:     ο και υμασ αντιτυπον νυν  σωζει βαπτισμα ου σαρκος αποθεσις ρυπου αλλα συνειδησεως αγαθης επερωτημα εις θεον δι αναστασεως ιησου χριστου     also to which an antitype doth now save us -- baptism, (not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the question of a good conscience in regard to God,) through the rising again of Jesus Christ,     quod et vos nunc similis formae salvos facit baptisma non carnis depositio sordium sed conscientiae bonae interrogatio in Deum per resurrectionem Iesu Christi
 
22.    who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him.     Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.     ος εστιν εν δεξια [του] θεου πορευθεις εις ουρανον υποταγεντων αυτω αγγελων και εξουσιων και δυναμεων     who is at the right hand of God, having gone on to heaven -- messengers, and authorities, and powers, having been subjected to him.     qui est in dextera Dei profectus in caelum subiectis sibi angelis et potestatibus et virtutibus
