| 1. | This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you; | This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: | ταυτην ηδη αγαπητοι δευτεραν υμιν γραφω επιστολην εν αις διεγειρω υμων εν υπομνησει την ειλικρινη διανοιαν | This, now, beloved, a second letter to you I write, in both which I stir up your pure mind in reminding you, | hanc ecce vobis carissimi secundam scribo epistulam in quibus excito vestram in commonitione sinceram mentem | ||||
| 2. | that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior: | That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: | μνησθηναι των προειρημενων ρηματων υπο των αγιων προφητων και της των αποστολων υμων εντολης του κυριου και σωτηρος | to be mindful of the sayings said before by the holy prophets, and of the command of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour, | ut memores sitis eorum quae praedixi verborum a sanctis prophetis et apostolorum vestrorum praeceptorum Domini et salvatoris | ||||
| 3. | knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts, | Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, | τουτο πρωτον γινωσκοντες οτι ελευσονται επ εσχατων των ημερων [εν] εμπαιγμονη εμπαικται κατα τας ιδιας επιθυμιας αυτων πορευομενοι | this first knowing, that there shall come in the latter end of the days scoffers, according to their own desires going on, | hoc primum scientes quod venient in novissimis diebus in deceptione inlusores iuxta proprias concupiscentias ambulantes | ||||
| 4. | and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation." | And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. | και λεγοντες που εστιν η επαγγελια της παρουσιας αυτου αφ ης γαρ οι πατερες εκοιμηθησαν παντα ουτως διαμενει απ αρχης κτισεως | and saying, `Where is the promise of his presence? for since the fathers did fall asleep, all things so remain from the beginning of the creation;` | dicentes ubi est promissio aut adventus eius ex quo enim patres dormierunt omnia sic perseverant ab initio creaturae | ||||
| 5. | For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water, by the word of God; | For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: | λανθανει γαρ αυτους τουτο θελοντας οτι ουρανοι ησαν εκπαλαι και γη εξ υδατος και δι υδατος συνεστωσα τω του θεου λογω | for this is unobserved by them willingly, that the heavens were of old, and the earth out of water and through water standing together by the word of God, | latet enim eos hoc volentes quod caeli erant prius et terra de aqua et per aquam consistens Dei verbo | ||||

| 7. | But the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. | But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. | οι δε νυν ουρανοι και η γη τω αυτω λογω τεθησαυρισμενοι εισιν πυρι τηρουμενοι εις ημεραν κρισεως και απωλειας των ασεβων ανθρωπων | and the present heavens and the earth, by the same word are treasured, for fire being kept to a day of judgment and destruction of the impious men. | caeli autem qui nunc sunt et terra eodem verbo repositi sunt igni servati in diem iudicii et perditionis impiorum hominum | ||||

| 9. | The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. | The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. | ου βραδυνει κυριος της επαγγελιας ως τινες βραδυτητα ηγουνται αλλα μακροθυμει εις υμασ μη βουλομενος τινας απολεσθαι αλλα παντας εις μετανοιαν χωρησαι | the Lord is not slow in regard to the promise, as certain count slowness, but is long-suffering to us, not counselling any to be lost but all to pass on to reformation, | non tardat Dominus promissi sed patienter agit propter vos nolens aliquos perire sed omnes ad paenitentiam reverti | ||||
| 10. | But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. | But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. | ηξει δε ημερα κυριου ως κλεπτης εν η οι ουρανοι ροιζηδον παρελευσονται στοιχεια δε καυσουμενα λυθησεται και γη και τα εν αυτη εργα ευρεθησεται | and it will come -- the day of the Lord -- as a thief in the night, in which the heavens with a rushing noise will pass away, and the elements with burning heat be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up. | adveniet autem dies Domini ut fur in qua caeli magno impetu transient elementa vero calore solventur | ||||
| 11. | Therefore since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness, | Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, | τουτων ουτωσ παντων λυομενων ποταπους δει υπαρχειν [υμασ] εν αγιαις αναστροφαις και ευσεβειαις | All these, then, being dissolved, what kind of persons doth it behove you to be in holy behaviours and pious acts? | cum haec igitur omnia dissolvenda sint quales oportet esse vos in sanctis conversationibus et pietatibus | ||||
| 12. | looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? | Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? | προσδοκωντας και σπευδοντας την παρουσιαν της του θεου ημερας δι ην ουρανοι πυρουμενοι λυθησονται και στοιχεια καυσουμενα τηκεται | waiting for and hasting to the presence of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt; | expectantes et properantes in adventum Dei diei per quam caeli ardentes solventur et elementa ignis ardore tabescent | ||||
| 13. | But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. | Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. | καινους δε ουρανους και γην καινην κατα το επαγγελμα αυτου προσδοκωμεν εν οις δικαιοσυνη κατοικει | and for new heavens and a new earth according to His promise we do wait, in which righteousness doth dwell; | novos vero caelos et novam terram et promissa ipsius expectamus in quibus iustitia habitat | ||||
| 14. | Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without blemish and blameless in his sight. | Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. | διο αγαπητοι ταυτα προσδοκωντες σπουδασατε ασπιλοι και αμωμητοι αυτω ευρεθηναι εν ειρηνη | wherefore, beloved, these things waiting for, be diligent, spotless and unblameable, by Him to be found in peace, | propter quod carissimi haec expectantes satis agite inmaculati et inviolati ei inveniri in pace | ||||
| 15. | Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you; | And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; | και την του κυριου ημων μακροθυμιαν σωτηριαν ηγεισθε καθως και ο αγαπητος ημων αδελφος παυλος κατα την δοθεισαν αυτω σοφιαν εγραψεν υμιν | and the long-suffering of our Lord count ye salvation, according as also our beloved brother Paul -- according to the wisdom given to him -- did write to you, | et Domini nostri longanimitatem salutem arbitramini sicut et carissimus frater noster Paulus secundum datam sibi sapientiam scripsit vobis | ||||
| 16. | as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. | As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. | ως και εν πασαις επιστολαις λαλων εν αυταις περι τουτων εν αισ εστιν δυσνοητα τινα α οι αμαθεις και αστηρικτοι στρεβλουσιν ως και τας λοιπας γραφας προς την ιδιαν αυτων απωλειαν | as also in all the epistles, speaking in them concerning these things, among which things are certain hard to be understood, which the untaught and unstable do wrest, as also the other Writings, unto their own destruction. | sicut et in omnibus epistulis loquens in eis de his in quibus sunt quaedam difficilia intellectu quae indocti et instabiles depravant sicut et ceteras scripturas ad suam ipsorum perditionem | ||||
| 17. | You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness. | Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. | υμεις ουν αγαπητοι προγινωσκοντες φυλασσεσθε ινα μη τη των αθεσμων πλανη συναπαχθεντες εκπεσητε του ιδιου στηριγμου | Ye, then, beloved, knowing before, take heed, lest, together with the error of the impious being led away, ye may fall from your own stedfastness, | vos igitur fratres praescientes custodite ne insipientium errore transducti excidatis a propria firmitate | ||||
| 18. | But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. | But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. | αυξανετε δε εν χαριτι και γνωσει του κυριου ημων και σωτηρος ιησου χριστου αυτω η δοξα και νυν και εις ημεραν αιωνος [αμην] | and increase ye in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; to him is the glory both now, and to the day of the age!
