| 11. | He said, "This will be the manner of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them to him, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they shall run before his chariots; | And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots. |

VY'aMUr ZH YHYH MShPhT HMLK 'aShUr YMLK 'yLYKM 'aTh-BNYKM YQCh VShM LV BMUrKBThV VBPhUrShYV VUrTShV LPhNY MUrKBThV. | and saith, `This is the custom of the king who doth reign over you: Your sons he doth take, and hath appointed for himself among his chariots, and among his horsemen, and they have run before his chariots; | et ait hoc erit ius regis qui imperaturus est vobis filios vestros tollet et ponet in curribus suis facietque sibi equites et praecursores quadrigarum suarum | |||||

VLShVM LV ShUrY 'aLPhYM VShUrY ChMShYM VLChUrSh ChUrYShV VLQTShUr QTShYUrV VL'yShVTh KLY-MLChMThV VKLY UrKBV. | also to appoint for himself heads of thousands, and heads of fifties; also to plow his plowing, and to reap his reaping; and to make instruments of his war, and instruments of his charioteer. | et constituet sibi tribunos et centuriones et aratores agrorum suorum et messores segetum et fabros armorum et curruum suorum | |||||

V'aTh-'yBDYKM V'aTh-ShPhChVThYKM V'aTh-BChVUrYKM HTVBYM V'aTh-ChMVUrYKM YQCh V'yShH LML'aKThV. | And your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and your young men -- the best, and your asses, he doth take, and hath prepared for his own work; | servos etiam vestros et ancillas et iuvenes optimos et asinos auferet et ponet in opere suo | |||||

וזעקתם ביום ההוא מלפני מלככם אשר בחרתם לכם ולא־יענה יהוה אתכם ביום ההוא׃ |

| 19. | But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, "No; but we will have a king over us, | Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; |
וימאנו העם לשמע בקול שמואל ויאמרו לא כי אם־מלך יהיה עלינו׃ |
VYM'aNV H'yM LShM'y BQVL ShMV'aL VY'aMUrV L'a KY 'aM-MLK YHYH 'yLYNV. | And the people refuse to hearken to the voice of Samuel, and say, `Nay, but a king is over us, | noluit autem populus audire vocem Samuhel sed dixerunt nequaquam rex enim erit super nos | |||||
| 20. | that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles." | That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles. |
והיינו גם־אנחנו ככל־הגוים ושפטנו מלכנו ויצא לפנינו ונלחם את־ מלחמתנו׃ |
VHYYNV GM-'aNChNV KKL-HGVYM VShPhTNV MLKNV VYTSh'a LPhNYNV VNLChM 'aTh- MLChMThNV. | and we have been, even we, like all the nations; and our king hath judged us, and gone out before us, and fought our battles.` | et erimus nos quoque sicut omnes gentes et iudicabit nos rex noster et egredietur ante nos et pugnabit bella nostra pro nobis | |||||

| 22. | Yahweh said to Samuel, "Listen to their voice, and make them a king." Samuel said to the men of Israel, "Every man go to his city." | And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city. |
