קום וירדת בית היוצר ושמה אשמיעך את־דברי׃ |

הכיוצר הזה לא־אוכל לעשות לכם בית ישראל נאם־יהוה הנה כחמר ביד היוצר כן־אתם בידי בית ישראל׃ |
O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel. | House of Israel, can't I do with you as this potter? says Yahweh. Behold, as the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel. | O Israel, am I not able to do with you as this potter does? says the Lord. See, like earth in the potter's hand are you in my hands, O Israel. | |||

רגע אדבר על־גוי ועל־ממלכה לנתוש ולנתוץ ולהאביד׃ |
At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; | At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it; | Whenever I say anything about uprooting a nation or a kingdom, and smashing it and sending destruction on it; | |||

ושב הגוי ההוא מרעתו אשר דברתי עליו ונחמתי על־הרעה אשר חשבתי לעשות לו׃ |
If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. | if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them. | If, in that very minute, that nation of which I was talking is turned away from its evil, my purpose of doing evil to them will be changed. | |||

ורגע אדבר על־גוי ועל־ממלכה לבנת ולנטע׃ |

ועשה הרעה בעיני לבלתי שמע בקולי ונחמתי על־הטובה אשר אמרתי להיטיב אותו׃ |
If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them. | if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they not obey my voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them. | If, in that very minute, it does evil in my eyes, going against my orders, then my good purpose, which I said I would do for them, will be changed. | |||

ועתה אמר־נא אל־איש־יהודה ועל־יושבי ירושלם לאמר כה אמר יהוה הנה אנכי יוצר עליכם רעה וחשב עליכם מחשבה שובו נא איש מדרכו הרעה והיטיבו דרכיכם ומעלליכם׃ |
Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good. | Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says Yahweh: Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return you now everyone from his evil way, and amend your ways and your doings. | Now, then, say to the men of Judah and to the people of Jerusalem, This is what the Lord has said: See, I am forming an evil thing against you, and designing a design against you: let every man come back now from his evil way, and let your ways and your doings be changed for the better. | |||

ואמרו נואש כי־אחרי מחשבותינו נלך ואיש שררות לבו־הרע נעשה׃ |
And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart. | But they say, It is in vain; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will do everyone after the stubbornness of his evil heart. | But they will say, There is no hope: we will go on in our designs, and every one of us will do what he is moved by the pride of his evil heart to do. | |||

לכן כה אמר יהוה שאלו־נא בגוים מי שמע כאלה שעררת עשתה מאד בתולת ישראל׃ |
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing. | Therefore thus says Yahweh: Ask now among the nations, who has heard such things; the virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing. | So this is what the Lord has said: Make search among the nations and see who has had word of such things; the virgin of Israel has done a very shocking thing. | |||

היעזב מצור שדי שלג לבנון אם־ינתשו מים זרים קרים נוזלים׃ |
Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken? | Shall the snow of Lebanon fail from the rock of the field? [or] shall the cold waters that flow down from afar be dried up? | Will the white snow go away from the top of Sirion? will the cold waters flowing from the mountains become dry? | |||

כי־שכחני עמי לשוא יקטרו ויכשלום בדרכיהם שבילי עולם ללכת נתיבות דרך לא סלולה׃ |
Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up; | For my people have forgotten me, they have burned incense to false [gods]; and they have been made to stumble in their ways, in the ancient paths, to walk in byways, in a way not built up; | For my people have put me out of their memory, burning perfumes to that which is nothing; and because of this, I will put a cause of falling in their ways, even in the old roads, and will make them go on side-roads, in a way not lifted up; | |||

לשום ארצם לשמה שרוקת עולם כל עובר עליה ישם ויניד בראשו׃ |
To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head. | to make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing; everyone who passes thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head. | Making their land a thing of wonder, causing sounds of surprise for ever; everyone who goes by will be overcome with wonder, shaking his head. | |||

כרוח־קדים אפיצם לפני אויב ערף ולא־פנים אראם ביום אידם׃ |

ויאמרו לכו ונחשבה על־ירמיהו מחשבות כי לא־תאבד תורה מכהן ועצה מחכם ודבר מנביא לכו ונכהו בלשון ואל־נקשיבה אל־כל־דבריו׃ |
Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words. | Then they said, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. הקשיבה יהוה אלי ושמע לקול יריבי׃ |
Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me. | Give heed to me, Yahweh, and listen to the voice of those who contend with me. | Give thought to me, O Lord, and give ear to the voice of those who put forward a cause against me. | |||

הישלם תחת־טובה רעה כי־כרו שוחה לנפשי זכר עמדי לפניך לדבר עליהם טובה להשיב את־חמתך מהם׃ |
Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them. | Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have dug a pit for my soul. לכן תן את־בניהם לרעב והגרם על־ידי־חרב ותהינה נשיהם שכלות ואלמנות ואנשיהם יהיו הרגי מות בחוריהם מכי־חרב במלחמה׃ |
Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle. | Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword; and let their wives become childless, and widows; and let their men be slain of death, [and] their young men struck of the sword in battle. | For this cause, let their children be without food, and give them over to the power of the sword; and let their wives be without children and become widows; let their men be overtaken by death, and their young men be put to the sword in the fight. | |||

תשמע זעקה מבתיהם כי־תביא עליהם גדוד פתאם כי־כרו שיחה ללכדני ופחים טמנו לרגלי׃ |
Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet. | Let a cry be heard from their houses, when you shall bring a troop suddenly on them; for they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet. | Let a cry for help go up from their houses, when you send an armed band on them suddenly: for they have made a hole in which to take me, and have put nets for my feet secretly. | |||

ואתה יהוה ידעת את־כל־עצתם עלי למות אל־תכפר על־עונם וחטאתם מלפניך אל־תמחי והיו מכשלים לפניך בעת אפך עשה בהם׃ |
Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger. | Yet, Yahweh, you know all their counsel against me to kill me; don't forgive their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from your sight; but let them be overthrown before you; deal you with them in the time of your anger. | But you, Lord, have knowledge of all the designs which they have made against my life; let not their evil-doing be covered or their sin be washed away from before your eyes: but let it be a cause of falling before you: so do to them in the time of your wrath. | |||
