1.    It happened, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his elder son, and said to him, "My son?" He said to him, "Here I am."     And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.     ויהי  כי־זקן  יצחק 
ותכהין  עיניו  מראת

    VYHY KY-ZQN YTShChQ VThKHYN 'yYNYV MUr'aTh VYQUr'a 'aTh-'yShV BNV HGDL VY'aMUr 'aLYV BNY VY'aMUr 'aLYV HNNY.     And it cometh to pass that Isaac is aged, and his eyes are too dim for seeing, and he calleth Esau his elder son, and saith unto him, `My son;` and he saith unto him, `Here am I.`     senuit autem Isaac et caligaverunt oculi eius et videre non poterat vocavitque Esau filium suum maiorem et dixit ei fili mi qui respondit adsum
 
2.    He said, "See now, I am old. I don't know the day of my death.     And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:     ויאמר  הנה־נא 
זקנתי  לא  ידעתי
יום  מותי׃
    VY'aMUr HNH-N'a ZQNThY L'a YD'yThY YVM MVThY.     And he saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have become aged, I have not known the day of my death;     cui pater vides inquit quod senuerim et ignorem diem mortis meae
 
3.    Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me venison.     Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;     ועתה  שא־נא  כליך 
תליך  וקשתך  וצא
השדה  וצודה  לי
צידה׃
    V'yThH Sh'a-N'a KLYK ThLYK VQShThK VTSh'a HShDH VTShVDH LY TShYDH.     and now, take up, I pray thee, thy instruments, thy quiver, and thy bow, and go out to the field, and hunt for me provision,     sume arma tua faretram et arcum et egredere foras cumque venatu aliquid adprehenderis
 
4.    Make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat, and that my soul may bless you before I die."     And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.     ועשה־לי  מטעמים

5.    Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.     And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.     ורבקה  שמעת  בדבר

    VUrBQH ShM'yTh BDBUr YTShChQ 'aL-'yShV BNV VYLK 'yShV HShDH LTShVD TShYD LHBY'a.     And Rebekah is hearkening while Isaac is speaking unto Esau his son; and Esau goeth to the field to hunt provision -- to bring in;     quod cum audisset Rebecca et ille abisset in agrum ut iussionem patris expleret
 
6.    Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, "Behold, I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying,     And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,     ורבקה  אמרה 
אל־יעקב  בנה  לאמר
הנה  שמעתי  את־אביך
מדבר  אל־עשו  אחיך
לאמר׃
    VUrBQH 'aMUrH 'aL-Y'yQB BNH L'aMUr HNH ShM'yThY 'aTh-'aBYK MDBUr 'aL-'yShV 'aChYK L'aMUr.     and Rebekah hath spoken unto Jacob her son, saying, `Lo, I have heard thy father speaking unto Esau thy brother, saying,     dixit filio suo Iacob audivi patrem tuum loquentem cum Esau fratre tuo et dicentem ei
 
7.    'Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless you before Yahweh before my death.'     Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before my death.     הביאה  לי  ציד 
ועשה־לי  מטעמים
ואכלה  ואברככה
לפני  יהוה  לפני
מותי׃
    HBY'aH LY TShYD V'yShH-LY MT'yMYM V'aKLH V'aBUrKKH LPhNY YHVH LPhNY MVThY.     Bring for me provision, and make for me tasteful things, and I do eat, and bless thee before Jehovah before my death.     adfer mihi venationem tuam et fac cibos ut comedam et benedicam tibi coram Domino antequam moriar
 
8.    Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command you.     Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.     ועתה  בני  שמע  בקלי 
לאשר  אני  מצוה
אתך׃
    V'yThH BNY ShM'y BQLY L'aShUr 'aNY MTShVH 'aThK.     `And now, my son, hearken to my voice, to that which I am commanding thee:     nunc ergo fili mi adquiesce consiliis meis
 
9.    Go now to the flock, and get me from there two good young goats. I will make them savory food for your father, such as he loves.     Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:     לך־נא  אל־הצאן 
וקח־לי  משם  שני
גדיי  עזים  טבים
ואעשה  אתם  מטעמים
לאביך  כאשר  אהב׃
    LK-N'a 'aL-HTSh'aN VQCh-LY MShM ShNY GDYY 'yZYM TBYM V'a'yShH 'aThM MT'yMYM L'aBYK K'aShUr 'aHB.     Go, I pray thee, unto the flock, and take for me from thence two good kids of the goats, and I make them tasteful things for thy father, such as he hath loved;     et pergens ad gregem adfer mihi duos hedos optimos ut faciam ex eis escas patri tuo quibus libenter vescitur
 
10.    You shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death."     And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.     והבאת  לאביך  ואכל 
בעבר  אשר  יברכך
לפני  מותו׃
    VHB'aTh L'aBYK V'aKL B'yBUr 'aShUr YBUrKK LPhNY MVThV.     and thou hast taken in to thy father, and he hath eaten, so that his soul doth bless thee before his death.     quas cum intuleris et comederit benedicat tibi priusquam moriatur
 
11.    Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, "Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.     And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:     ויאמר  יעקב 
אל־רבקה  אמו  הן
עשו  אחי  איש  שער
ואנכי  איש  חלק׃
    VY'aMUr Y'yQB 'aL-UrBQH 'aMV HN 'yShV 'aChY 'aYSh Sh'yUr V'aNKY 'aYSh ChLQ.     And Jacob saith unto Rebekah his mother, `Lo, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I a smooth man,     cui ille respondit nosti quod Esau frater meus homo pilosus sit et ego lenis
 
12.    What if my father touches me? I will seem to him as a deceiver, and I would bring a curse on myself, and not a blessing."     My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.     אולי  ימשני  אבי 
והייתי  בעיניו
כמתעתע  והבאתי  עלי
קללה  ולא  ברכה׃
    'aVLY YMShNY 'aBY VHYYThY B'yYNYV KMTh'yTh'y VHB'aThY 'yLY QLLH VL'a BUrKH.     it may be my father doth feel me, and I have been in his eyes as a deceiver, and have brought upon me disesteem, and not a blessing;`     si adtractaverit me pater meus et senserit timeo ne putet sibi voluisse inludere et inducat super me maledictionem pro benedictione
 
13.    His mother said to him, "Let your curse be on me, my son. Only obey my voice, and go get them for me."     And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.     ותאמר  לו  אמו  עלי 
קללתך  בני  אך  שמע
בקלי  ולך  קח־לי׃
    VTh'aMUr LV 'aMV 'yLY QLLThK BNY 'aK ShM'y BQLY VLK QCh-LY.     and his mother saith to him, `On me thy disesteem, my son; only hearken to my voice, and go, take for me.`     ad quem mater in me sit ait ista maledictio fili mi tantum audi vocem meam et perge adferque quae dixi
 
14.    He went, and got them, and brought them to his mother. His mother made savory food, such as his father loved.     And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.     וילך  ויקח  ויבא 
לאמו  ותעש  אמו
מטעמים  כאשר  אהב
אביו׃
    VYLK VYQCh VYB'a L'aMV VTh'ySh 'aMV MT'yMYM K'aShUr 'aHB 'aBYV.     And he goeth, and taketh, and bringeth to his mother, and his mother maketh tasteful things, such as his father hath loved;     abiit et adtulit deditque matri paravit illa cibos sicut noverat velle patrem illius
 
15.    Rebekah took the good clothes of Esau, her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob, her younger son.     And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:     ותקח  רבקה  את־בגדי 
עשו  בנה  הגדל
החמדת  אשר  אתה
בבית  ותלבש  את־
יעקב  בנה  הקטן׃
    VThQCh UrBQH 'aTh-BGDY 'yShV BNH HGDL HChMDTh 'aShUr 'aThH BBYTh VThLBSh 'aTh- Y'yQB BNH HQTN.     and Rebekah taketh the desirable garments of Esau her elder son, which are with her in the house, and doth put on Jacob her younger son;     et vestibus Esau valde bonis quas apud se habebat domi induit eum
 
16.    She put the skins of the young goats on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck.     And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:     ואת  ערת  גדיי 
העזים  הלבישה
על־ידיו  ועל  חלקת
צואריו׃
    V'aTh 'yUrTh GDYY H'yZYM HLBYShH 'yL-YDYV V'yL ChLQTh TShV'aUrYV.     and the skins of the kids of the goats she hath put on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck,     pelliculasque hedorum circumdedit manibus et colli nuda protexit
 
17.    She gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.     And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.     ותתן  את־המטעמים 
ואת־הלחם  אשר  עשתה
ביד  יעקב  בנה׃
    VThThN 'aTh-HMT'yMYM V'aTh-HLChM 'aShUr 'yShThH BYD Y'yQB BNH.     and she giveth the tasteful things, and the bread which she hath made, into the hand of Jacob her son.     dedit pulmentum et panes quos coxerat tradidit
 
18.    He came to his father, and said, "My father?" He said, "Here I am. Who are you, my son?"     And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?     ויבא  אל־אביו 
ויאמר  אבי  ויאמר
הנני  מי  אתה  בני׃
    VYB'a 'aL-'aBYV VY'aMUr 'aBY VY'aMUr HNNY MY 'aThH BNY.     And he cometh in unto his father, and saith, `My father;` and he saith, `Here am I; who art thou, my son?`     quibus inlatis dixit pater mi et ille respondit audio quis tu es fili mi
 
19.    Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your firstborn. I have done what you asked me to do. Please arise, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me."     And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy first born; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.     ויאמר  יעקב 
אל־אביו  אנכי  עשו
בכרך  עשיתי  כאשר
דברת  אלי  קום־נא
שבה  ואכלה  מצידי
בעבור  תברכני
נפשך׃
    VY'aMUr Y'yQB 'aL-'aBYV 'aNKY 'yShV BKUrK 'yShYThY K'aShUr DBUrTh 'aLY QVM-N'a ShBH V'aKLH MTShYDY B'yBVUr ThBUrKNY NPhShK.     And Jacob saith unto his father, `I am Esau thy first-born; I have done as thou hast spoken unto me; rise, I pray thee, sit, and eat of my provision, so that thy soul doth bless me.`     dixitque Iacob ego sum Esau primogenitus tuus feci sicut praecepisti mihi surge sede et comede de venatione mea ut benedicat mihi anima tua
 
20.    Isaac said to his son, "How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?" He said, "Because Yahweh your God gave me success."     And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.     ויאמר  יצחק  אל־בנו 
מה־זה  מהרת  למצא
בני  ויאמר  כי  הקרה
יהוה  אלהיך  לפני׃
    VY'aMUr YTShChQ 'aL-BNV MH-ZH MHUrTh LMTSh'a BNY VY'aMUr KY HQUrH YHVH 'aLHYK LPhNY.     And Isaac saith unto his son, `What is this thou hast hasted to find, my son?` and he saith, `That which Jehovah thy God hath caused to come before me.`     rursum Isaac ad filium suum quomodo inquit tam cito invenire potuisti fili mi qui respondit voluntatis Dei fuit ut cito mihi occurreret quod volebam
 
21.    Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not."     And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.     ויאמר  יצחק 
אל־יעקב  גשה־נא
ואמשך  בני  האתה  זה
בני  עשו  אם־לא׃
    VY'aMUr YTShChQ 'aL-Y'yQB GShH-N'a V'aMShK BNY H'aThH ZH BNY 'yShV 'aM-L'a.     And Isaac saith unto Jacob, `Come nigh, I pray thee, and I feel thee, my son, whether thou art he, my son Esau, or not.`     dixitque Isaac accede huc ut tangam te fili mi et probem utrum tu sis filius meus Esau an non
 
22.    Jacob went near to Isaac his father. He felt him, and said, "The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau."     And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.     ויגש  יעקב  אל־יצחק 
אביו  וימשהו  ויאמר
הקל  קול  יעקב
והידים  ידי  עשו׃
    VYGSh Y'yQB 'aL-YTShChQ 'aBYV VYMShHV VY'aMUr HQL QVL Y'yQB VHYDYM YDY 'yShV.     And Jacob cometh nigh unto Isaac his father, and he feeleth him, and saith, `The voice is the voice of Jacob, and the hands hands of Esau.`     accessit ille ad patrem et palpato eo dixit Isaac vox quidem vox Iacob est sed manus manus sunt Esau
 
23.    He didn't recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother, Esau's hands. So he blessed him.     And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.     ולא  הכירו  כי־היו 
ידיו  כידי  עשו
אחיו  שערת
ויברכהו׃
    VL'a HKYUrV KY-HYV YDYV KYDY 'yShV 'aChYV Sh'yUrTh VYBUrKHV.     And he hath not discerned him, for his hands have been hairy, as the hands of Esau his brother, and he blesseth him,     et non cognovit eum quia pilosae manus similitudinem maioris expresserant benedicens ergo illi
 
24.    He said, "Are you really my son Esau?" He said, "I am."     And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.     ויאמר  אתה  זה  בני 
עשו  ויאמר  אני׃
    VY'aMUr 'aThH ZH BNY 'yShV VY'aMUr 'aNY.     and saith, `Thou art he -- my son Esau?` and he saith, `I am.`     ait tu es filius meus Esau respondit ego sum
 
25.    He said, "Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless you." He brought it near to him, and he ate. He brought him wine, and he drank.     And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.     ויאמר  הגשה  לי 
ואכלה  מציד  בני
למען  תברכך  נפשי
ויגש־לו  ויאכל
ויבא  לו  יין  וישת׃
    VY'aMUr HGShH LY V'aKLH MTShYD BNY LM'yN ThBUrKK NPhShY VYGSh-LV VY'aKL VYB'a LV YYN VYShTh.     And he saith, `Bring nigh to me, and I do eat of my son`s provision, so that my soul doth bless thee;` and he bringeth nigh to him, and he eateth; and he bringeth to him wine, and he drinketh.     at ille offer inquit mihi cibos de venatione tua fili mi ut benedicat tibi anima mea quos cum oblatos comedisset obtulit ei etiam vinum quo hausto
 
26.    His father Isaac said to him, "Come near now, and kiss me, my son."     And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.     ויאמר  אליו  יצחק 
אביו  גשה־נא
ושקה־לי  בני׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLYV YTShChQ 'aBYV GShH-N'a VShQH-LY BNY.     And Isaac his father saith to him, `Come nigh, I pray thee, and kiss me, my son;`     dixit ad eum accede ad me et da mihi osculum fili mi
 
27.    He came near, and kissed him. He smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him, and said, "Behold, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which Yahweh has blessed.     And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:     ויגש  וישק־לו  וירח 
את־ריח  בגדיו
ויברכהו  ויאמר  ראה
ריח  בני  כריח  שדה
אשר  ברכו  יהוה׃
    VYGSh VYShQ-LV VYUrCh 'aTh-UrYCh BGDYV VYBUrKHV VY'aMUr Ur'aH UrYCh BNY KUrYCh ShDH 'aShUr BUrKV YHVH.     and he cometh nigh, and kisseth him, and he smelleth the fragrance of his garments, and blesseth him, and saith, `See, the fragrance of my son is as the fragrance of a field which Jehovah hath blessed;     accessit et osculatus est eum statimque ut sensit vestimentorum illius flagrantiam benedicens ait ecce odor filii mei sicut odor agri cui benedixit Dominus
 
28.    God give you of the dew of the sky, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and new wine.     Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:     ויתן־לך  האלהים 
מטל  השמים  ומשמני
הארץ  ורב  דגן
ותירש׃
    VYThN-LK H'aLHYM MTL HShMYM VMShMNY H'aUrTSh VUrB DGN VThYUrSh.     and God doth give to thee of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of corn and wine;     det tibi Deus de rore caeli et de pinguedine terrae abundantiam frumenti et vini
 
29.    Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers. Let your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you. Blessed be everyone who blesses you."     Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.     יעבדוך  עמים 
וישתחו  לך  לאמים
הוה  גביר  לאחיך
וישתחוו  לך  בני
אמך  ארריך  ארור
ומברכיך  ברוך׃
    Y'yBDVK 'yMYM VYShThChV LK L'aMYM HVH GBYUr L'aChYK VYShThChVV LK BNY 'aMK 'aUrUrYK 'aUrVUr VMBUrKYK BUrVK.     peoples serve thee, and nations bow themselves to thee, be thou mighty over thy brethren, and the sons of thy mother bow themselves to thee; those who curse thee are cursed, and those who bless thee are blessed.`     et serviant tibi populi et adorent te tribus esto dominus fratrum tuorum et incurventur ante te filii matris tuae qui maledixerit tibi sit maledictus et qui benedixerit benedictionibus repleatur
 
30.    It happened, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob had just gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.     And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.     ויהי  כאשר  כלה

    VYHY K'aShUr KLH YTShChQ LBUrK 'aTh-Y'yQB VYHY 'aK YTSh'a YTSh'a Y'yQB M'aTh PhNY YTShChQ 'aBYV V'yShV 'aChYV B'a MTShYDV.     And it cometh to pass, as Isaac hath finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob is only just going out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother hath come in from his hunting;     vix Isaac sermonem impleverat et egresso Iacob foras venit Esau
 
31.    He also made savory food, and brought it to his father. He said to his father, "Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that your soul may bless me."     And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.     ויעש  גם־הוא 
מטעמים  ויבא  לאביו
ויאמר  לאביו  יקם
אבי  ויאכל  מציד

33.    Isaac trembled violently, and said, "Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed."     And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.     ויחרד  יצחק  חרדה 
גדלה  עד־מאד  ויאמר
מי־אפוא  הוא
הצד־ציד  ויבא  לי
ואכל  מכל  בטרם
תבוא  ואברכהו
גם־ברוך  יהיה׃

35.    He said, "Your brother came with deceit, and has taken away your blessing."     And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.     ויאמר  בא  אחיך 
במרמה  ויקח  ברכתך׃
    VY'aMUr B'a 'aChYK BMUrMH VYQCh BUrKThK.     and he saith, `Thy brother hath come with subtilty, and taketh thy blessing.`     qui ait venit germanus tuus fraudulenter et accepit benedictionem tuam
 
36.    He said, "Isn't he rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my blessing." He said, "Haven't you reserved a blessing for me?"     And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?     ויאמר  הכי  קרא  שמו

37.    Isaac answered Esau, "Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brothers have I given to him for servants. With grain and new wine have I sustained him. What then will I do for you, my son?"     And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?     ויען  יצחק  ויאמר

38.    Esau said to his father, "Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, my father." Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.     And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.     ויאמר  עשו  אל־אביו

39.    Isaac his father answered him, "Behold, of the fatness of the earth will be your dwelling, and of the dew of the sky from above.     And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;     ויען  יצחק  אביו

40.    By your sword will you live, and you will serve your brother. It will happen, when you will break loose, that you shall shake his yoke from off your neck."     And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.     ועל־חרבך  תחיה

41.    Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esau said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob."     And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.     וישטם  עשו  את־יעקב

42.    The words of Esau, her elder son, were told to Rebekah. She sent and called Jacob, her younger son, and said to him, "Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you.     And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.     ויגד  לרבקה 
את־דברי  עשו  בנה
הגדל  ותשלח  ותקרא
ליעקב  בנה  הקטן
ותאמר  אליו  הנה
עשו  אחיך  מתנחם  לך

43.    Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban, my brother, in Haran.     Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;     ועתה  בני  שמע  בקלי 
וקום  ברח־לך
אל־לבן  אחי  חרנה׃
    V'yThH BNY ShM'y BQLY VQVM BUrCh-LK 'aL-LBN 'aChY ChUrNH.     and now, my son, hearken to my voice, and rise, flee for thyself unto Laban my brother, to Haran,     nunc ergo fili audi vocem meam et consurgens fuge ad Laban fratrem meum in Haran
 
44.    Stay with him a few days, until your brother's fury turns away;     And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother's fury turn away;     וישבת  עמו  ימים

45.    until your brother's anger turn away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send, and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?"     Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?     עד־שוב  אף־אחיך

46.    Rebekah said to Isaac, "I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good will my life do me?"     And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?     ותאמר  רבקה
