1.    Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, "You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.     And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.     ויקרא  יצחק 
אל־יעקב  ויברך  אתו
ויצוהו  ויאמר  לו
לא־תקח  אשה  מבנות
כנען׃
    VYQUr'a YTShChQ 'aL-Y'yQB VYBUrK 'aThV VYTShVHV VY'aMUr LV L'a-ThQCh 'aShH MBNVTh KN'yN.     And Isaac calleth unto Jacob, and blesseth him, and commandeth him, and saith to him, `Thou dost not take a wife of the daughters of Caanan;     vocavit itaque Isaac Iacob et benedixit praecepitque ei dicens noli accipere coniugem de genere Chanaan
 
2.    Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother's brother.     Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.     קום  לך  פדנה  ארם 
ביתה  בתואל  אבי
אמך  וקח־לך  משם
אשה  מבנות  לבן  אחי
אמך׃
    QVM LK PhDNH 'aUrM BYThH BThV'aL 'aBY 'aMK VQCh-LK MShM 'aShH MBNVTh LBN 'aChY 'aMK.     rise, go to Padan-Aram, to the house of Bethuel, thy mother`s father, and take for thyself from thence a wife, of the daughters of Laban, thy mother`s brother;     sed vade et proficiscere in Mesopotamiam Syriae ad domum Bathuel patrem matris tuae et accipe tibi inde uxorem de filiabus Laban avunculi tui
 
3.    May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,     And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;     ואל  שדי  יברך  אתך 
ויפרך  וירבך  והיית
לקהל  עמים׃
    V'aL ShDY YBUrK 'aThK VYPhUrK VYUrBK VHYYTh LQHL 'yMYM.     and God Almighty doth bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and thou hast become an assembly of peoples;     Deus autem omnipotens benedicat tibi et crescere te faciat atque multiplicet ut sis in turbas populorum
 
4.    and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you, and to your seed with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham."     And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.     ויתן־לך  את־ברכת 
אברהם  לך  ולזרעך
אתך  לרשתך  את־ארץ
מגריך  אשר־  נתן
אלהים  לאברהם׃
    VYThN-LK 'aTh-BUrKTh 'aBUrHM LK VLZUr'yK 'aThK LUrShThK 'aTh-'aUrTSh MGUrYK 'aShUr- NThN 'aLHYM L'aBUrHM.     and He doth give to thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee and to thy seed with thee, to cause thee to possess the land of thy sojournings, which God gave to Abraham.`     et det tibi benedictiones Abraham et semini tuo post te ut possideas terram peregrinationis tuae quam pollicitus est avo tuo
 
5.    Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, Rebekah's brother, Jacob's and Esau's mother.     And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.     וישלח  יצחק 
את־יעקב  וילך  פדנה
ארם  אל־לבן
בן־בתואל  הארמי
אחי  רבקה  אם  יעקב
ועשו׃
    VYShLCh YTShChQ 'aTh-Y'yQB VYLK PhDNH 'aUrM 'aL-LBN BN-BThV'aL H'aUrMY 'aChY UrBQH 'aM Y'yQB V'yShV.     And Isaac sendeth away Jacob, and he goeth to Padan-Aram, unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Aramaean, brother of Rebekah, mother of Jacob and Esau.     cumque dimisisset eum Isaac profectus venit in Mesopotamiam Syriae ad Laban filium Bathuel Syri fratrem Rebeccae matris suae
 
6.    Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, "You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan,"     When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;     וירא  עשו  כי־ברך 
יצחק  את־יעקב  ושלח
אתו  פדנה  ארם
לקחת־לו  משם  אשה
בברכו  אתו  ויצו
עליו  לאמר  לא־תקח
אשה  מבנות  כנען׃
    VYUr'a 'yShV KY-BUrK YTShChQ 'aTh-Y'yQB VShLCh 'aThV PhDNH 'aUrM LQChTh-LV MShM 'aShH BBUrKV 'aThV VYTShV 'yLYV L'aMUr L'a-ThQCh 'aShH MBNVTh KN'yN.     And Esau seeth that Isaac hath blessed Jacob, and hath sent him to Padan-Aram to take to himself from thence a wife -- in his blessing him that he layeth a charge upon him, saying, Thou dost not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan --     videns autem Esau quod benedixisset pater suus Iacob et misisset eum in Mesopotamiam Syriae ut inde uxorem duceret et quod post benedictionem praecepisset ei dicens non accipies coniugem de filiabus Chanaan
 
7.    and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan Aram.     And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;     וישמע  יעקב 
אל־אביו  ואל־אמו
וילך  פדנה  ארם׃
    VYShM'y Y'yQB 'aL-'aBYV V'aL-'aMV VYLK PhDNH 'aUrM.     that Jacob hearkeneth unto his father and unto his mother, and goeth to Padan-Aram --     quodque oboediens Iacob parentibus isset in Syriam
 
8.    Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan didn't please Isaac, his father.     And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;     וירא  עשו  כי  רעות 
בנות  כנען  בעיני
יצחק  אביו׃
    VYUr'a 'yShV KY Ur'yVTh BNVTh KN'yN B'yYNY YTShChQ 'aBYV.     and Esau seeth that the daughters of Canaan are evil in the eyes of Isaac his father,     probans quoque quod non libenter aspiceret filias Chanaan pater suus
 
9.    Esau went to Ishmael, and took, besides the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.     Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.     וילך  עשו 
אל־ישמעאל  ויקח
את־מחלת  בת־ישמעאל
בן־אברהם  אחות
נביות  על־נשיו  לו
לאשה׃
    VYLK 'yShV 'aL-YShM'y'aL VYQCh 'aTh-MChLTh BTh-YShM'y'aL BN-'aBUrHM 'aChVTh NBYVTh 'yL-NShYV LV L'aShH.     and Esau goeth unto Ishmael, and taketh Mahalath, daughter of Ishmael, Abraham`s son, sister of Nebajoth, unto his wives, to himself, for a wife.     ivit ad Ismahelem et duxit uxorem absque his quas prius habebat Maeleth filiam Ismahel filii Abraham sororem Nabaioth
 
10.    Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.     And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.     ויצא  יעקב  מבאר 
שבע  וילך  חרנה׃
    VYTSh'a Y'yQB MB'aUr ShB'y VYLK ChUrNH.     And Jacob goeth out from Beer-Sheba, and goeth toward Haran,     igitur egressus Iacob de Bersabee pergebat Haran
 
11.    He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.     And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.     ויפגע  במקום  וילן 
שם  כי־בא  השמש
ויקח  מאבני  המקום
וישם  מראשתיו
וישכב  במקום  ההוא׃
    VYPhG'y BMQVM VYLN ShM KY-B'a HShMSh VYQCh M'aBNY HMQVM VYShM MUr'aShThYV VYShKB BMQVM HHV'a.     and he toucheth at a certain place, and lodgeth there, for the sun hath gone in, and he taketh of the stones of the place, and maketh them his pillows, and lieth down in that place.     cumque venisset ad quendam locum et vellet in eo requiescere post solis occubitum tulit de lapidibus qui iacebant et subponens capiti suo dormivit in eodem loco
 
12.    He dreamed. Behold, a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God ascending and descending on it.     And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.     ויחלם  והנה  סלם 
מצב  ארצה  וראשו
מגיע  השמימה  והנה
מלאכי  אלהים  עלים
וירדים  בו׃
    VYChLM VHNH SLM MTShB 'aUrTShH VUr'aShV MGY'y HShMYMH VHNH ML'aKY 'aLHYM 'yLYM VYUrDYM BV.     And he dreameth, and lo, a ladder set up on the earth, and its head is touching the heavens; and lo, messengers of God are going up and coming down by it;     viditque in somnis scalam stantem super terram et cacumen illius tangens caelum angelos quoque Dei ascendentes et descendentes per eam
 
13.    Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon you lie, to you will I give it, and to your seed.     And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;     והנה  יהוה  נצב 
עליו  ויאמר  אני
יהוה  אלהי  אברהם
אביך  ואלהי  יצחק
הארץ  אשר  אתה  שכב
עליה  לך  אתננה
ולזרעך׃
    VHNH YHVH NTShB 'yLYV VY'aMUr 'aNY YHVH 'aLHY 'aBUrHM 'aBYK V'aLHY YTShChQ H'aUrTSh 'aShUr 'aThH ShKB 'yLYH LK 'aThNNH VLZUr'yK.     and lo, Jehovah is standing upon it, and He saith, `I am Jehovah, God of Abraham thy father, and God of Isaac; the land on which thou art lying, to thee I give it, and to thy seed;     et Dominum innixum scalae dicentem sibi ego sum Dominus Deus Abraham patris tui et Deus Isaac terram in qua dormis tibi dabo et semini tuo
 
14.    Your seed will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your seed will all the families of the earth be blessed.     And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.     והיה  זרעך  כעפר 
הארץ  ופרצת  ימה
וקדמה  וצפנה  ונגבה
ונברכו  בך  כל־
משפחת  האדמה
ובזרעך׃
    VHYH ZUr'yK K'yPhUr H'aUrTSh VPhUrTShTh YMH VQDMH VTShPhNH VNGBH VNBUrKV BK KL- MShPhChTh H'aDMH VBZUr'yK.     and thy seed hath been as the dust of the land, and thou hast broken forth westward, and eastward, and northward, and southward, and all families of the ground have been blessed in thee and in thy seed.     eritque germen tuum quasi pulvis terrae dilataberis ad occidentem et orientem septentrionem et meridiem et benedicentur in te et in semine tuo cunctae tribus terrae
 
15.    Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you."     And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.     והנה  אנכי  עמך 
ושמרתיך  בכל
אשר־תלך  והשבתיך
אל־האדמה  הזאת  כי
לא  אעזבך  עד  אשר
אם־עשיתי  את
אשר־דברתי  לך׃
    VHNH 'aNKY 'yMK VShMUrThYK BKL 'aShUr-ThLK VHShBThYK 'aL-H'aDMH HZ'aTh KY L'a 'a'yZBK 'yD 'aShUr 'aM-'yShYThY 'aTh 'aShUr-DBUrThY LK.     `And lo, I am with thee, and have kept thee whithersoever thou goest, and have caused thee to turn back unto this ground; for I leave thee not till that I have surely done that which I have spoken to thee.`     et ero custos tuus quocumque perrexeris et reducam te in terram hanc nec dimittam nisi conplevero universa quae dixi
 
16.    Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, "Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I didn't know it."     And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.     וייקץ  יעקב  משנתו 
ויאמר  אכן  יש  יהוה
במקום  הזה  ואנכי
לא  ידעתי׃
    VYYQTSh Y'yQB MShNThV VY'aMUr 'aKN YSh YHVH BMQVM HZH V'aNKY L'a YD'yThY.     And Jacob awaketh out of his sleep, and saith, `Surely Jehovah is in this place, and I knew not;`     cumque evigilasset Iacob de somno ait vere Dominus est in loco isto et ego nesciebam
 
17.    He was afraid, and said, "How dreadful is this place! This is none other than God's house, and this is the gate of heaven."     And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.     ויירא  ויאמר 
מה־נורא  המקום  הזה
אין  זה  כי  אם־בית
אלהים  וזה  שער
השמים׃
    VYYUr'a VY'aMUr MH-NVUr'a HMQVM HZH 'aYN ZH KY 'aM-BYTh 'aLHYM VZH Sh'yUr HShMYM.     and he feareth, and saith, `How fearful is this place; this is nothing but a house of God, and this a gate of the heavens.`     pavensque quam terribilis inquit est locus iste non est hic aliud nisi domus Dei et porta caeli
 
18.    Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.     And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.     וישכם  יעקב  בבקר

וישם  אתה  מצבה

    VYShKM Y'yQB BBQUr VYQCh 'aTh-H'aBN 'aShUr-ShM MUr'aShThYV VYShM 'aThH MTShBH VYTShQ ShMN 'yL-Ur'aShH.     And Jacob riseth early in the morning, and taketh the stone which he hath made his pillows, and maketh it a standing pillar, and poureth oil upon its top,     surgens ergo mane tulit lapidem quem subposuerat capiti suo et erexit in titulum fundens oleum desuper
 
19.    He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.     And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.     ויקרא  את־שם־המקום 
ההוא  בית־אל  ואולם
לוז  שם־העיר
לראשנה׃
    VYQUr'a 'aTh-ShM-HMQVM HHV'a BYTh-'aL V'aVLM LVZ ShM-H'yYUr LUr'aShNH.     and he calleth the name of that place Bethel, house of God, and yet, Luz is the name of the city at the first.     appellavitque nomen urbis Bethel quae prius Luza vocabatur
 
20.    Jacob vowed a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,     And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,     וידר  יעקב  נדר 
לאמר  אם־יהיה
אלהים  עמדי  ושמרני
בדרך  הזה  אשר  אנכי
הולך  ונתן־לי  לחם
לאכל  ובגד  ללבש׃
    VYDUr Y'yQB NDUr L'aMUr 'aM-YHYH 'aLHYM 'yMDY VShMUrNY BDUrK HZH 'aShUr 'aNKY HVLK VNThN-LY LChM L'aKL VBGD LLBSh.     And Jacob voweth a vow, saying, `Seeing God is with me, and hath kept me in this way which I am going, and hath given to me bread to eat, and a garment to put on --     vovit etiam votum dicens si fuerit Deus mecum et custodierit me in via per quam ambulo et dederit mihi panem ad vescendum et vestem ad induendum
 
21.    so that I come again to my father's house in peace, and Yahweh will be my God,     So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:     ושבתי  בשלום 
אל־בית  אבי  והיה
יהוה  לי  לאלהים׃
    VShBThY BShLVM 'aL-BYTh 'aBY VHYH YHVH LY L'aLHYM.     when I have turned back in peace unto the house of my father, and Jehovah hath become my God,     reversusque fuero prospere ad domum patris mei erit mihi Dominus in Deum
 
22.    then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God's house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give the tenth to you."     And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.     והאבן  הזאת 
אשר־שמתי  מצבה
יהיה  בית  אלהים
וכל  אשר  תתן־לי
עשר  אעשרנו  לך׃
    VH'aBN HZ'aTh 'aShUr-ShMThY MTShBH YHYH BYTh 'aLHYM VKL 'aShUr ThThN-LY 'yShUr 'a'yShUrNV LK.     then this stone which I have made a standing pillar is a house of God, and all that Thou dost give to me -- tithing I tithe to Thee.`     et lapis iste quem erexi in titulum vocabitur Domus Dei cunctorumque quae dederis mihi decimas offeram tibi
