1.    Then Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, and said, "My father and my brothers, with their flocks, their herds, and all that they own, have come out of the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen."     Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.     ויבא  יוסף  ויגד 
לפרעה  ויאמר  אבי
ואחי  וצאנם  ובקרם
וכל־אשר  להם  באו
מארץ  כנען  והנם
בארץ  גשן׃
    VYB'a YVSPh VYGD LPhUr'yH VY'aMUr 'aBY V'aChY VTSh'aNM VBQUrM VKL-'aShUr LHM B'aV M'aUrTSh KN'yN VHNM B'aUrTSh GShN.     And Joseph cometh, and declareth to Pharaoh, and saith, `My father, and my brethren, and their flock, and their herd, and all they have, have come from the land of Canaan, and lo, they are in the land of Goshen.`     ingressus ergo Ioseph nuntiavit Pharaoni dicens pater meus et fratres oves eorum et armenta et cuncta quae possident venerunt de terra Chanaan et ecce consistunt in terra Gessen
 
2.    From among his brothers he took five men, and presented them to Pharaoh.     And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.     ומקצה  אחיו  לקח 
חמשה  אנשים  ויצגם
לפני  פרעה׃
    VMQTShH 'aChYV LQCh ChMShH 'aNShYM VYTShGM LPhNY PhUr'yH.     And out of his brethren he hath taken five men, and setteth them before Pharaoh;     extremos quoque fratrum suorum quinque viros statuit coram rege
 
3.    Pharaoh said to his brothers, "What is your occupation?" They said to Pharaoh, "Your servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers."     And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.     ויאמר  פרעה 
אל־אחיו  מה־מעשיכם
ויאמרו  אל־פרעה
רעה  צאן  עבדיך  גם־
אנחנו  גם־אבותינו׃
    VY'aMUr PhUr'yH 'aL-'aChYV MH-M'yShYKM VY'aMUrV 'aL-PhUr'yH Ur'yH TSh'aN 'yBDYK GM- 'aNChNV GM-'aBVThYNV.     and Pharaoh saith unto his brethren, `What are your works?` and they say unto Pharaoh, `Thy servants are feeders of a flock, both we and our fathers;`     quos ille interrogavit quid habetis operis responderunt pastores ovium sumus servi tui et nos et patres nostri
 
4.    They said to Pharaoh, "We have come to live as foreigners in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants' flocks. For the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen."     They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.     ויאמרו  אל־פרעה 
לגור  בארץ  באנו
כי־אין  מרעה  לצאן
אשר  לעבדיך  כי־
כבד  הרעב  בארץ
כנען  ועתה  ישבו־נא
עבדיך  בארץ  גשן׃
    VY'aMUrV 'aL-PhUr'yH LGVUr B'aUrTSh B'aNV KY-'aYN MUr'yH LTSh'aN 'aShUr L'yBDYK KY- KBD HUr'yB B'aUrTSh KN'yN V'yThH YShBV-N'a 'yBDYK B'aUrTSh GShN.     and they say unto Pharaoh, `To sojourn in the land we have come, for there is no pasture for the flock which thy servants have, for grievous is the famine in the land of Canaan; and now, let thy servants, we pray thee, dwell in the land of Goshen.`     ad peregrinandum in terra tua venimus quoniam non est herba gregibus servorum tuorum ingravescente fame in regione Chanaan petimusque ut esse nos iubeas servos tuos in terra Gessen
 
5.    Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, "Your father and your brothers have come to you.     And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:     ויאמר  פרעה 
אל־יוסף  לאמר  אביך
ואחיך  באו  אליך׃
    VY'aMUr PhUr'yH 'aL-YVSPh L'aMUr 'aBYK V'aChYK B'aV 'aLYK.     And Pharaoh speaketh unto Joseph, saying, `Thy father and thy brethren have come unto thee:     dixit itaque rex ad Ioseph pater tuus et fratres tui venerunt ad te
 
6.    The land of Egypt is before you. Make your father and your brothers dwell in the best of the land. Let them dwell in the land of Goshen. If you know any able men among them, then put them in charge of my livestock."     The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.     ארץ  מצרים  לפניך

    'aUrTSh MTShUrYM LPhNYK HV'a BMYTB H'aUrTSh HVShB 'aTh-'aBYK V'aTh-'aChYK YShBV B'aUrTSh GShN V'aM-YD'yTh VYSh-BM 'aNShY-ChYL VShMThM ShUrY MQNH 'yL-'aShUr-LY.     the land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land cause thy father and thy brethren to dwell -- they dwell in the land of Goshen, and if thou hast known, and there are among them men of ability, then thou hast set them heads over the cattle I have.`     terra Aegypti in conspectu tuo est in optimo loco fac habitare eos et trade eis terram Gessen quod si nosti esse in eis viros industrios constitue illos magistros pecorum meorum
 
7.    Joseph brought in Jacob, his father, and set him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.     And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.     ויבא  יוסף  את־יעקב 
אביו  ויעמדהו  לפני
פרעה  ויברך  יעקב
את־פרעה׃
    VYB'a YVSPh 'aTh-Y'yQB 'aBYV VY'yMDHV LPhNY PhUr'yH VYBUrK Y'yQB 'aTh-PhUr'yH.     And Joseph bringeth in Jacob his father, and causeth him to stand before Pharaoh; and Jacob blesseth Pharaoh.     post haec introduxit Ioseph patrem suum ad regem et statuit eum coram eo qui benedicens illi
 
8.    Pharaoh said to Jacob, "How many are the days of the years of your life?"     And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou?     ויאמר  פרעה 
אל־יעקב  כמה  ימי
שני  חייך׃
    VY'aMUr PhUr'yH 'aL-Y'yQB KMH YMY ShNY ChYYK.     And Pharaoh saith unto Jacob, `How many are the days of the years of thy life?`     et interrogatus ab eo quot sunt dies annorum vitae tuae
 
9.    Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred thirty years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage."     And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.     ויאמר  יעקב 
אל־פרעה  ימי  שני
מגורי  שלשים  ומאת
שנה  מעט  ורעים  היו
ימי  שני  חיי  ולא
השיגו  את־ימי  שני

    VY'aMUr Y'yQB 'aL-PhUr'yH YMY ShNY MGVUrY ShLShYM VM'aTh ShNH M'yT VUr'yYM HYV YMY ShNY ChYY VL'a HShYGV 'aTh-YMY ShNY ChYY 'aBThY BYMY MGVUrYHM.     And Jacob saith unto Pharaoh, `The days of the years of my sojournings are an hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not reached the days of the years of the life of my fathers, in the days of their sojournings.`     respondit dies peregrinationis vitae meae centum triginta annorum sunt parvi et mali et non pervenerunt usque ad dies patrum meorum quibus peregrinati sunt
 
10.    Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from the presence of Pharaoh.     And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.     ויברך  יעקב 
את־פרעה  ויצא
מלפני  פרעה׃
    VYBUrK Y'yQB 'aTh-PhUr'yH VYTSh'a MLPhNY PhUr'yH.     And Jacob blesseth Pharaoh, and goeth out from before Pharaoh.     et benedicto rege egressus est foras
 
11.    Joseph placed his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.     And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.     ויושב  יוסף

ויתן  להם  אחזה

    VYVShB YVSPh 'aTh-'aBYV V'aTh-'aChYV VYThN LHM 'aChZH B'aUrTSh MTShUrYM BMYTB H'aUrTSh B'aUrTSh Ur'yMSS K'aShUr TShVH PhUr'yH.     And Joseph settleth his father and his brethren, and giveth to them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh commanded;     Ioseph vero patri et fratribus suis dedit possessionem in Aegypto in optimo loco terrae solo Ramesses ut praeceperat Pharao
 
12.    Joseph nourished his father, his brothers, and all of his father's household, with bread, according to their families.     And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's household, with bread, according to their families.     ויכלכל  יוסף

13.    There was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.     And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and all the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.     ולחם  אין  בכל־הארץ 
כי־כבד  הרעב  מאד
ותלה  ארץ  מצרים
וארץ  כנען  מפני
הרעב׃
    VLChM 'aYN BKL-H'aUrTSh KY-KBD HUr'yB M'aD VThLH 'aUrTSh MTShUrYM V'aUrTSh KN'yN MPhNY HUr'yB.     And there is no bread in all the land, for the famine is very grievous, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan are feeble because of the famine;     in toto enim orbe panis deerat et oppresserat fames terram maxime Aegypti et Chanaan
 
14.    Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house.     And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house.     וילקט  יוסף

    VYLQT YVSPh 'aTh-KL-HKSPh HNMTSh'a B'aUrTSh-MTShUrYM VB'aUrTSh KN'yN BShBUr 'aShUr- HM ShBUrYM VYB'a YVSPh 'aTh-HKSPh BYThH PhUr'yH.     and Joseph gathereth all the silver that is found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn that they are buying, and Joseph bringeth the silver into the house of Pharaoh.     e quibus omnem pecuniam congregavit pro venditione frumenti et intulit eam in aerarium regis
 
15.    When the money was all spent in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph, and said, "Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For our money fails."     And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.     ויתם  הכסף  מארץ 
מצרים  ומארץ  כנען
ויבאו  כל־מצרים
אל־יוסף  לאמר
הבה־לנו  לחם  ולמה
נמות  נגדך  כי  אפס
כסף׃
    VYThM HKSPh M'aUrTSh MTShUrYM VM'aUrTSh KN'yN VYB'aV KL-MTShUrYM 'aL-YVSPh L'aMUr HBH-LNV LChM VLMH NMVTh NGDK KY 'aPhS KSPh.     And the silver is consumed out of the land of Egypt, and out of the land of Canaan, and all the Egyptians come in unto Joseph, saying, `Give to us bread -- why do we die before thee, though the money hath ceased?`     cumque defecisset emptoris pretium venit cuncta Aegyptus ad Ioseph dicens da nobis panes quare morimur coram te deficiente pecunia
 
16.    Joseph said, "Give me your livestock; and I will give you food for your livestock, if your money is gone."     And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail.     ויאמר  יוסף  הבו 
מקניכם  ואתנה  לכם
במקניכם  אם־אפס
כסף׃
    VY'aMUr YVSPh HBV MQNYKM V'aThNH LKM BMQNYKM 'aM-'aPhS KSPh.     and Joseph saith, `Give your cattle; and I give to you for your cattle, if the money hath ceased.`     quibus ille respondit adducite pecora vestra et dabo vobis pro eis cibos si pretium non habetis
 
17.    They brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, and for the flocks, and for the herds, and for the donkeys: and he fed them with bread in exchange for all their livestock for that year.     And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year.     ויביאו  את־מקניהם 
אל־יוסף  ויתן  להם
יוסף  לחם  בסוסים
ובמקנה  הצאן
ובמקנה  הבקר
ובחמרים  וינהלם
בלחם  בכל־מקנהם
בשנה  ההוא׃
    VYBY'aV 'aTh-MQNYHM 'aL-YVSPh VYThN LHM YVSPh LChM BSVSYM VBMQNH HTSh'aN VBMQNH HBQUr VBChMUrYM VYNHLM BLChM BKL-MQNHM BShNH HHV'a.     And they bring in their cattle unto Joseph, and Joseph giveth to them bread, for the horses, and for the cattle of the flock, and for the cattle of the herd, and for the asses; and he tendeth them with bread, for all their cattle, during that year.     quae cum adduxissent dedit eis alimenta pro equis et ovibus et bubus et asinis sustentavitque eos illo anno pro commutatione pecorum
 
18.    When that year was ended, they came to him the second year, and said to him, "We will not hide from my lord how our money is all spent, and the herds of livestock are my lord's. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands.     When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands:     ותתם  השנה  ההוא 
ויבאו  אליו  בשנה
השנית  ויאמרו  לו
לא־נכחד  מאדני  כי
אם־תם  הכסף  ומקנה
הבהמה  אל־אדני  לא
נשאר  לפני  אדני
בלתי  אם־  גויתנו
ואדמתנו׃
    VThThM HShNH HHV'a VYB'aV 'aLYV BShNH HShNYTh VY'aMUrV LV L'a-NKChD M'aDNY KY 'aM-ThM HKSPh VMQNH HBHMH 'aL-'aDNY L'a NSh'aUr LPhNY 'aDNY BLThY 'aM- GVYThNV V'aDMThNV.     And that year is finished, and they come in unto him on the second year, and say to him, `We do not hide from my lord, that since the money hath been finished, and possession of the cattle is unto my lord, there hath not been left before my lord save our bodies, and our ground;     veneruntque anno secundo et dixerunt ei non celamus dominum nostrum quod deficiente pecunia pecora simul defecerint nec clam te est quod absque corporibus et terra nihil habeamus
 
19.    Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Pharaoh. Give us seed, that we may live, and not die, and that the land won't be desolate."     Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate.     למה  נמות  לעיניך 
גם־אנחנו  גם
אדמתנו  קנה־אתנו
ואת־אדמתנו  בלחם
ונהיה  אנחנו
ואדמתנו  עבדים
לפרעה  ותן־זרע
ונחיה  ולא  נמות
והאדמה  לא  תשם׃
    LMH NMVTh L'yYNYK GM-'aNChNV GM 'aDMThNV QNH-'aThNV V'aTh-'aDMThNV BLChM VNHYH 'aNChNV V'aDMThNV 'yBDYM LPhUr'yH VThN-ZUr'y VNChYH VL'a NMVTh VH'aDMH L'a ThShM.     why do we die before thine eyes, both we and our ground? buy us and our ground for bread, and we and our ground are servants to Pharaoh; and give seed, and we live, and die not, and the ground is not desolate.`     cur ergo morimur te vidente et nos et terra nostra tui erimus eme nos in servitutem regiam et praebe semina ne pereunte cultore redigatur terra in solitudinem
 
20.    So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine was severe on them, and the land became Pharaoh's.     And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh's.     ויקן  יוסף 
את־כל־אדמת  מצרים
לפרעה  כי־מכרו
מצרים  איש  שדהו

ותהי  הארץ  לפרעה׃
    VYQN YVSPh 'aTh-KL-'aDMTh MTShUrYM LPhUr'yH KY-MKUrV MTShUrYM 'aYSh ShDHV KY- ChZQ 'yLHM HUr'yB VThHY H'aUrTSh LPhUr'yH.     And Joseph buyeth all the ground of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians have sold each his field, for the famine hath been severe upon them, and the land becometh Pharaoh`s;     emit igitur Ioseph omnem terram Aegypti vendentibus singulis possessiones suas prae magnitudine famis subiecitque eam Pharaoni
 
21.    As for the people, he moved them to the cities from one end of the border of Egypt even to the other end of it.     And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt even to the other end thereof.     ואת־העם  העביר  אתו 
לערים  מקצה
גבול־מצרים
ועד־קצהו׃
    V'aTh-H'yM H'yBYUr 'aThV L'yUrYM MQTShH GBVL-MTShUrYM V'yD-QTShHV.     as to the people he hath removed them to cities from the one end of the border of Egypt even unto its other end.     et cunctos populos eius a novissimis terminis Aegypti usque ad extremos fines eius
 
22.    Only he didn't buy the land of the priests, for the priests had a portion from Pharaoh, and ate their portion which Pharaoh gave them. That is why they didn't sell their land.     Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.     רק  אדמת  הכהנים  לא 
קנה  כי  חק  לכהנים
מאת  פרעה  ואכלו
את־חקם  אשר  נתן
להם  פרעה  על־כן  לא
מכרו  את־אדמתם׃
    UrQ 'aDMTh HKHNYM L'a QNH KY ChQ LKHNYM M'aTh PhUr'yH V'aKLV 'aTh-ChQM 'aShUr NThN LHM PhUr'yH 'yL-KN L'a MKUrV 'aTh-'aDMThM.     Only the ground of the priests he hath not bought, for the priests have a portion from Pharaoh, and they have eaten their portion which Pharaoh hath given to them, therefore they have not sold their ground.     praeter terram sacerdotum quae a rege tradita fuerat eis quibus et statuta cibaria ex horreis publicis praebebantur et idcirco non sunt conpulsi vendere possessiones suas
 
23.    Then Joseph said to the people, "Behold, I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh. Behold, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land.     Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.     ויאמר  יוסף  אל־העם 
הן  קניתי  אתכם
היום  ואת־אדמתכם
לפרעה  הא־לכם  זרע
וזרעתם  את־האדמה׃
    VY'aMUr YVSPh 'aL-H'yM HN QNYThY 'aThKM HYVM V'aTh-'aDMThKM LPhUr'yH H'a-LKM ZUr'y VZUr'yThM 'aTh-H'aDMH.     And Joseph saith unto the people, `Lo, I have bought you to-day and your ground for Pharaoh; lo, seed for you, and ye have sown the ground,     dixit ergo Ioseph ad populos en ut cernitis et vos et terram vestram Pharao possidet accipite semina et serite agros
 
24.    It will happen at the harvests, that you shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and four parts will be your own, for seed of the field, for your food, for them of your households, and for food for your little ones."     And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.     והיה  בתבואת  ונתתם 
חמישית  לפרעה
וארבע  הידת  יהיה
לכם  לזרע  השדה
ולאכלכם  ולאשר
בבתיכם  ולאכל
לטפכם׃
    VHYH BThBV'aTh VNThThM ChMYShYTh LPhUr'yH V'aUrB'y HYDTh YHYH LKM LZUr'y HShDH VL'aKLKM VL'aShUr BBThYKM VL'aKL LTPhKM.     and it hath come to pass in the increases, that ye have given a fifth to Pharaoh, and four of the parts are for yourselves, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for those who are in your houses, and for food for your infants.`     ut fruges habere possitis quintam partem regi dabitis quattuor reliquas permitto vobis in sementem et in cibos famulis et liberis vestris
 
25.    They said, "You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants."     And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants.     ויאמרו  החיתנו 
נמצא־חן  בעיני
אדני  והיינו  עבדים
לפרעה׃
    VY'aMUrV HChYThNV NMTSh'a-ChN B'yYNY 'aDNY VHYYNV 'yBDYM LPhUr'yH.     And they say, `Thou hast revived us; we find grace in the eyes of my lord, and have been servants to Pharaoh;`     qui responderunt salus nostra in manu tua est respiciat nos tantum dominus noster et laeti serviemus regi
 
26.    Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth. Only the land of the priests alone didn't become Pharaoh's.     And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part; except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh's.     וישם  אתה  יוסף  לחק

    VYShM 'aThH YVSPh LChQ 'yD-HYVM HZH 'yL-'aDMTh MTShUrYM LPhUr'yH LChMSh UrQ 'aDMTh HKHNYM LBDM L'a HYThH LPhUr'yH.     and Joseph setteth it for a statute unto this day, concerning the ground of Egypt, that Pharaoh hath a fifth; only the ground of the priests alone hath not become Pharaoh`s.     ex eo tempore usque in praesentem diem in universa terra Aegypti regibus quinta pars solvitur et factum est quasi in legem absque terra sacerdotali quae libera ab hac condicione fuit
 
27.    Israel lived in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen; and they got themselves possessions therein, and were fruitful, and multiplied exceedingly.     And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.     וישב  ישראל  בארץ 
מצרים  בארץ  גשן
ויאחזו  בה  ויפרו
וירבו  מאד׃
    VYShB YShUr'aL B'aUrTSh MTShUrYM B'aUrTSh GShN VY'aChZV BH VYPhUrV VYUrBV M'aD.     And Israel dwelleth in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they have possession in it, and are fruitful, and multiply exceedingly;     habitavit ergo Israhel in Aegypto id est in terra Gessen et possedit eam auctusque est et multiplicatus nimis
 
28.    Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were one hundred forty-seven years.     And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.     ויחי  יעקב  בארץ 
מצרים  שבע  עשרה
שנה  ויהי  ימי־יעקב
שני  חייו  שבע  שנים
וארבעים  ומאת  שנה׃

29.    The time drew near that Israel must die, and he called his son Joseph, and said to him, "If now I have found favor in your sight, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me. Please don't bury me in Egypt,     And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt:     ויקרבו  ימי־ישראל 
למות  ויקרא  לבנו
ליוסף  ויאמר  לו
אם־נא  מצאתי  חן
בעיניך  שים־נא  ידך
תחת  ירכי  ועשית
עמדי  חסד  ואמת
אל־נא  תקברני
במצרים׃

30.    but when I sleep with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their burying place." He said, "I will do as you have said."     But I will lie with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as thou hast said.     ושכבתי  עם־אבתי 
ונשאתני  ממצרים
וקברתני  בקברתם
ויאמר  אנכי  אעשה
כדברך׃
    VShKBThY 'yM-'aBThY VNSh'aThNY MMTShUrYM VQBUrThNY BQBUrThM VY'aMUr 'aNKY 'a'yShH KDBUrK.     and I have lain with my fathers, and thou hast borne me out of Egypt, and buried me in their burying-place.` And he saith, `I -- I do according to thy word;`     sed dormiam cum patribus meis et auferas me de hac terra condasque in sepulchro maiorum cui respondit Ioseph ego faciam quod iussisti
 
31.    He said, "Swear to me," and he swore to him. Israel bowed himself on the bed's head.     And he said, Swear unto me. And he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head.     ויאמר  השבעה  לי 
וישבע  לו  וישתחו
ישראל  על־ראש

    VY'aMUr HShB'yH LY VYShB'y LV VYShThChV YShUr'aL 'yL-Ur'aSh HMTH.     and he saith, `Swear to me;` and he sweareth to him, and Israel boweth himself on the head of the bed.     et ille iura ergo inquit mihi quo iurante adoravit Israhel Deum conversus ad lectuli caput
