1.    It happened after this, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them some of the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.     It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.     ויהי  אחריכן  באו

    VYHY 'aChUrYKN B'aV BNY-MV'aB VBNY 'yMVN V'yMHM MH'yMVNYM 'yL-YHVShPhT LMLChMH.     And it cometh to pass after this, the sons of Moab have come in, and the sons of Ammon, and with them of the peoples, against Jehoshaphat to battle.     post haec congregati sunt filii Moab et filii Ammon et cum eis de Ammanitis ad Iosaphat ut pugnarent contra eum
 
2.    Then some came who told Jehoshaphat, saying, "A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea from Syria. Behold, they are in Hazazon Tamar" (that is, En Gedi).     Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.     ויבאו  ויגידו 
ליהושפט  לאמר  בא

לים  מארם  והנם
בחצצון  תמר  היא
עין  גדי׃
    VYB'aV VYGYDV LYHVShPhT L'aMUr B'a 'yLYK HMVN UrB M'yBUr LYM M'aUrM VHNM BChTShTShVN ThMUr HY'a 'yYN GDY.     And they come in and declare to Jehoshaphat, saying, `Come against thee hath a great multitude from beyond the sea, from Aram, and lo, they are in Hazezon-Tamar -- it is En-Gedi.`     veneruntque nuntii et indicaverunt Iosaphat dicentes venit contra te multitudo magna de his locis quae trans mare sunt et de Syria et ecce consistunt in Asasonthamar quae est Engaddi
 
3.    Jehoshaphat was alarmed, and set himself to seek to Yahweh. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.     And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.     וירא  ויתן  יהושפט 
את־פניו  לדרוש
ליהוה  ויקרא־צום
על־כל־יהודה׃
    VYUr'a VYThN YHVShPhT 'aTh-PhNYV LDUrVSh LYHVH VYQUr'a-TShVM 'yL-KL-YHVDH.     And Jehoshaphat feareth, and setteth his face to seek to Jehovah, and proclaimeth a fast over all Judah;     Iosaphat autem timore perterritus totum se contulit ad rogandum Dominum et praedicavit ieiunium universo Iuda
 
4.    Judah gathered themselves together, to seek help from Yahweh. They came out of all the cities of Judah to seek Yahweh.     And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.     ויקבצו  יהודה  לבקש 
מיהוה  גם  מכל־ערי
יהודה  באו  לבקש
את־יהוה׃
    VYQBTShV YHVDH LBQSh MYHVH GM MKL-'yUrY YHVDH B'aV LBQSh 'aTh-YHVH.     and Judah is gathered to inquire of Jehovah; also, from all the cities of Judah they have come in to seek Jehovah.     congregatusque Iudas ad precandum Dominum sed et omnes de urbibus suis venerunt ad obsecrandum eum
 
5.    Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Yahweh, before the new court;     And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,     ויעמד  יהושפט  בקהל 
יהודה  וירושלם
בבית  יהוה  לפני
החצר  החדשה׃
    VY'yMD YHVShPhT BQHL YHVDH VYUrVShLM BBYTh YHVH LPhNY HChTShUr HChDShH.     And Jehoshaphat standeth in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Jehovah, at the front of the new court,     cumque stetisset Iosaphat in medio coetu Iudae et Hierusalem in domo Domini ante atrium novum
 
6.    and he said, "Yahweh, the God of our fathers, aren't you God in heaven? Aren't you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.     And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?     ויאמר  יהוה  אלהי 
אבתינו  הלא
אתה־הוא  אלהים
בשמים  ואתה  מושל
בכל  ממלכות  הגוים
ובידך  כח  וגבורה
ואין  עמך  להתיצב׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aLHY 'aBThYNV HL'a 'aThH-HV'a 'aLHYM BShMYM V'aThH MVShL BKL MMLKVTh HGVYM VBYDK KCh VGBVUrH V'aYN 'yMK LHThYTShB.     and saith, `O Jehovah, God of our fathers, art not Thou -- God in the heavens? yea, Thou art ruling over all kingdoms of the nations, and in Thy hand is power and might, and there is none with Thee to station himself.     ait Domine Deus patrum nostrorum tu es Deus in caelo et dominaris cunctis regnis gentium in manu tua est fortitudo et potentia nec quisquam tibi potest resistere
 
7.    Didn't you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham your friend forever?     Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?     הלא  אתה  אלהינו 
הורשת  את־ישבי
הארץ  הזאת  מלפני
עמך  ישראל  ותתנה
לזרע  אברהם  אהבך
לעולם׃
    HL'a 'aThH 'aLHYNV HVUrShTh 'aTh-YShBY H'aUrTSh HZ'aTh MLPhNY 'yMK YShUr'aL VThThNH LZUr'y 'aBUrHM 'aHBK L'yVLM.     `Art not Thou our God? Thou hast dispossessed the inhabitants of this land from before Thy people Israel, and dost give it to the seed of Abraham Thy friend to the age,     nonne tu Deus noster interfecisti omnes habitatores terrae huius coram populo tuo Israhel et dedisti eam semini Abraham amici tui in sempiternum
 
8.    They lived in it, and have built you a sanctuary in it for your name, saying,     And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,     וישבו־בה  ויבנו  לך 
בה  מקדש  לשמך
לאמר׃
    VYShBV-BH VYBNV LK BH MQDSh LShMK L'aMUr.     and they dwell in it, and build to Thee in it a sanctuary for Thy name, saying,     habitaveruntque in ea et extruxerunt in illa sanctuarium nomini tuo dicentes
 
9.    'If evil comes on us--the sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine--we will stand before this house, and before you, (for your name is in this house), and cry to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.'     If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.     אם־תבוא  עלינו  רעה 
חרב  שפוט  ודבר
ורעב  נעמדה  לפני
הבית  הזה  ולפניך
כי  שמך  בבית  הזה
ונזעק  אליך  מצרתנו
ותשמע  ותושיע׃
    'aM-ThBV'a 'yLYNV Ur'yH ChUrB ShPhVT VDBUr VUr'yB N'yMDH LPhNY HBYTh HZH VLPhNYK KY ShMK BBYTh HZH VNZ'yQ 'aLYK MTShUrThNV VThShM'y VThVShY'y.     If evil doth come upon us -- sword, judgment, and pestilence, and famine -- we stand before this house, and before Thee, for Thy name is in this house, and cry unto Thee out of our distress, and Thou dost hear and save.     si inruerint super nos mala gladius iudicii pestilentia et fames stabimus coram domo hac in conspectu tuo in qua invocatum est nomen tuum et clamabimus ad te in tribulationibus nostris et exaudies salvosque facies
 
10.    Now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them, and didn't destroy them;     And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;     ועתה  הנה  בני־עמון 
ומואב  והר־שעיר
אשר  לא־נתתה
לישראל  לבוא  בהם
בבאם  מארץ  מצרים
כי  סרו  מעליהם  ולא
השמידום׃
    V'yThH HNH BNY-'yMVN VMV'aB VHUr-Sh'yYUr 'aShUr L'a-NThThH LYShUr'aL LBV'a BHM BB'aM M'aUrTSh MTShUrYM KY SUrV M'yLYHM VL'a HShMYDVM.     `And now, lo, sons of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, whom Thou didst not grant to Israel to go in against in their coming out of the land of Egypt, for they turned aside from off them and destroyed them not,     nunc igitur ecce filii Ammon et Moab et mons Seir per quos non concessisti Israheli ut transirent quando egrediebantur de Aegypto sed declinaverunt ab eis et non interfecerunt illos
 
11.    behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.     Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.     והנה־הם  גמלים 
עלינו  לבוא  לגרשנו
מירשתך  אשר
הורשתנו׃
    VHNH-HM GMLYM 'yLYNV LBV'a LGUrShNV MYUrShThK 'aShUr HVUrShThNV.     and lo, they are recompensing to us -- to come in to drive us out of Thy possession, that Thou hast caused us to possess.     e contrario agunt et nituntur eicere nos de possessione quam tradidisti nobis
 
12.    Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do, but our eyes are on you."     O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.     אלהינו  הלא 
תשפט־בם  כי  אין
בנו  כח  לפני  ההמון
הרב  הזה  הבא  עלינו
ואנחנו  לא  נדע
מה־נעשה  כי  עליך
עינינו׃
    'aLHYNV HL'a ThShPhT-BM KY 'aYN BNV KCh LPhNY HHMVN HUrB HZH HB'a 'yLYNV V'aNChNV L'a ND'y MH-N'yShH KY 'yLYK 'yYNYNV.     `O our God, dost Thou not execute judgment upon them? for there is no power in us before this great multitude that hath come against us, and we know not what we do, but on Thee are our eyes.`     Deus noster ergo non iudicabis eos in nobis quidem non tanta est fortitudo ut possimus huic multitudini resistere quae inruit super nos sed cum ignoremus quid agere debeamus hoc solum habemus residui ut oculos nostros dirigamus ad te
 
13.    All Judah stood before Yahweh, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.     And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.     וכל־יהודה  עמדים 
לפני  יהוה  גם־טפם
נשיהם  ובניהם׃
    VKL-YHVDH 'yMDYM LPhNY YHVH GM-TPhM NShYHM VBNYHM.     And all Judah are standing before Jehovah, also their infants, their wives, and their sons.     omnis vero Iuda stabat coram Domino cum parvulis et uxoribus et liberis suis
 
14.    Then the Spirit of Yahweh came on Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly;     Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;     ויחזיאל  בן־זכריהו 
בן־בניה  בן־יעיאל
בן־מתניה  הלוי
מן־בני  אסף  היתה
עליו  רוח  יהוה
בתוך  הקהל׃
    VYChZY'aL BN-ZKUrYHV BN-BNYH BN-Y'yY'aL BN-MThNYH HLVY MN-BNY 'aSPh HYThH 'yLYV UrVCh YHVH BThVK HQHL.     And upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, hath the Spirit of Jehovah been, in the midst of the assembly,     erat autem Hiazihel filius Zacchariae filii Banaiae filii Hiehihel filii Mathaniae Levites de filiis Asaph super quem factus est spiritus Domini in medio turbae
 
15.    and he said, "Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you king Jehoshaphat. Thus says Yahweh to you, 'Don't be afraid, neither be dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.     And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.     ויאמר  הקשיבו 
כל־יהודה  וישבי
ירושלם  והמלך
יהושפט  כה־אמר
יהוה  לכם  אתם
אל־תיראו  ואל־תחתו
מפני  ההמון  הרב
הזה  כי  לא  לכם
המלחמה  כי  לאלהים׃
    VY'aMUr HQShYBV KL-YHVDH VYShBY YUrVShLM VHMLK YHVShPhT KH-'aMUr YHVH LKM 'aThM 'aL-ThYUr'aV V'aL-ThChThV MPhNY HHMVN HUrB HZH KY L'a LKM HMLChMH KY L'aLHYM.     and he saith, `Attend, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and O king Jehoshaphat, Thus said Jehovah to you, Ye fear not, nor are afraid of the face of this great multitude, for not for you is the battle, but for God.     et ait adtendite omnis Iuda et qui habitatis Hierusalem et tu rex Iosaphat haec dicit Dominus vobis nolite timere nec paveatis hanc multitudinem non est enim vestra pugna sed Dei
 
16.    Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz. You shall find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel.     To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.     מחר  רדו  עליהם  הנם

ירואל׃
    MChUr UrDV 'yLYHM HNM 'yLYM BM'yLH HTShYTSh VMTSh'aThM 'aThM BSVPh HNChL PhNY MDBUr YUrV'aL.     To-morrow, go ye down against them, lo, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and ye have found them in the end of the valley, the front of the wilderness of Jeruel.     cras descendetis contra eos ascensuri enim sunt per clivum nomine Sis et invenietis illos in summitate torrentis qui est contra solitudinem Hieruhel
 
17.    You will not need to fight this battl. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Don't be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for Yahweh is with you.'"     Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.     לא  לכם  להלחם  בזאת

    L'a LKM LHLChM BZ'aTh HThYTShBV 'yMDV VUr'aV 'aTh-YShV'yTh YHVH 'yMKM YHVDH VYUrVShLM 'aL-ThYUr'aV V'aL-ThChThV MChUr TSh'aV LPhNYHM VYHVH 'yMKM.     Not for you to fight in this; station yourselves, stand, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem -- be not afraid nor fear ye -- to-morrow go out before them, and Jehovah is with you.`     non eritis vos qui dimicabitis sed tantummodo confidenter state et videbitis auxilium Domini super vos o Iuda et Hierusalem nolite timere nec paveatis cras egredimini contra eos et Dominus erit vobiscum
 
18.    Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before Yahweh, worshipping Yahweh.     And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.     ויקד  יהושפט  אפים 
ארצה  וכל־יהודה
וישבי  ירושלם  נפלו
לפני  יהוה  להשתחות
ליהוה׃
    VYQD YHVShPhT 'aPhYM 'aUrTShH VKL-YHVDH VYShBY YUrVShLM NPhLV LPhNY YHVH LHShThChVTh LYHVH.     And Jehoshaphat boweth -- face to the earth -- and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have fallen before Jehovah, to bow themselves to Jehovah.     Iosaphat ergo et Iuda et omnes habitatores Hierusalem ceciderunt proni in terram coram Domino et adoraverunt eum
 
19.    The Levites, of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites, stood up to praise Yahweh, the God of Israel, with an exceeding loud voice.     And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.     ויקמו  הלוים 
מן־בני  הקהתים
ומן־בני  הקרחים
להלל  ליהוה  אלהי
ישראל  בקול  גדול
למעלה׃
    VYQMV HLVYM MN-BNY HQHThYM VMN-BNY HQUrChYM LHLL LYHVH 'aLHY YShUr'aL BQVL GDVL LM'yLH.     And the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korhites, rise to give praise to Jehovah, God of Israel, with a loud voice on high.     porro Levitae de filiis Caath et de filiis Core laudabant Dominum Deum Israhel voce magna in excelsum
 
20.    They rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in Yahweh your God, so you shall be established! Believe his prophets, so you shall prosper."     And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.     וישכימו  בבקר

ובצאתם  עמד  יהושפט
ויאמר  שמעוני
יהודה  וישבי
ירושלם  האמינו
ביהוה  אלהיכם
ותאמנו  האמינו
בנביאיו  והצליחו׃
    VYShKYMV BBQUr VYTSh'aV LMDBUr ThQV'y VBTSh'aThM 'yMD YHVShPhT VY'aMUr ShM'yVNY YHVDH VYShBY YUrVShLM H'aMYNV BYHVH 'aLHYKM VTh'aMNV H'aMYNV BNBY'aYV VHTShLYChV.     And they rise early in the morning, and go out to the wilderness of Tekoa, and in their going out Jehoshaphat hath stood and saith, `Hear me, O Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, remain stedfast in Jehovah your God, and be stedfast; remain stedfast in His prophets, and prosper.`     cumque mane surrexissent egressi sunt per desertum Thecuae profectisque eis stans Iosaphat in medio eorum dixit audite me Iuda et omnes habitatores Hierusalem credite in Domino Deo vestro et securi eritis credite prophetis eius et cuncta evenient prospera
 
21.    When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who should sing to Yahweh, and give praise in holy array, as they went out before the army, and say, Give thanks to Yahweh; for his loving kindness endures forever.     And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.     ויועץ  אל־העם 
ויעמד  משררים
ליהוה  ומהללים
להדרת־קדש  בצאת
לפני  החלוץ  ואמרים
הודו  ליהוה  כי
לעולם  חסדו׃
    VYV'yTSh 'aL-H'yM VY'yMD MShUrUrYM LYHVH VMHLLYM LHDUrTh-QDSh BTSh'aTh LPhNY HChLVTSh V'aMUrYM HVDV LYHVH KY L'yVLM ChSDV.     And he taketh counsel with the people, and appointeth singers to Jehovah, and those giving praise to the honour of holiness, in the going out before the armed men, and saying, `Give ye thanks to Jehovah, for to the age is His kindness.`     deditque consilium populo et statuit cantores Domini ut laudarent eum in turmis suis et antecederent exercitum ac voce consona dicerent confitemini Domino quoniam in aeternum misericordia eius
 
22.    When they began to sing and to praise, Yahweh set ambushers against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were struck.     And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.     ובעת  החלו  ברנה 
ותהלה  נתן  יהוה
מארבים  על־בני
עמון  מואב  והר־
שעיר  הבאים  ליהודה
וינגפו׃
    VB'yTh HChLV BUrNH VThHLH NThN YHVH M'aUrBYM 'yL-BNY 'yMVN MV'aB VHUr- Sh'yYUr HB'aYM LYHVDH VYNGPhV.     And at the time they have begun with singing and praise, Jehovah hath put ambushments against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who are coming in to Judah, and they are smitten,     cumque coepissent laudes canere vertit Dominus insidias eorum in semet ipsos filiorum scilicet Ammon et Moab et montis Seir qui egressi fuerant ut pugnarent contra Iudam et percussi sunt
 
23.    For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, utterly to kill and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, everyone helped to destroy another.     For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.     ויעמדו  בני  עמון 
ומואב  על־ישבי
הר־שעיר  להחרים
ולהשמיד  וככלותם
ביושבי  שעיר  עזרו
איש־ברעהו  למשחית׃
    VY'yMDV BNY 'yMVN VMV'aB 'yL-YShBY HUr-Sh'yYUr LHChUrYM VLHShMYD VKKLVThM BYVShBY Sh'yYUr 'yZUrV 'aYSh-BUr'yHV LMShChYTh.     and the sons of Ammon stand up, and Moab, against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to devote and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbour, to destroy.     namque filii Ammon et Moab consurrexerunt adversum habitatores montis Seir ut interficerent et delerent eos cumque hoc opere perpetrassent etiam in semet ipsos versi mutuis concidere vulneribus
 
24.    When Judah came to the place overlooking the wilderness, they looked at the multitude; and behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and there were none who escaped.     And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.     ויהודה  בא 
על־המצפה  למדבר
ויפנו  אל־ההמון
והנם  פגרים  נפלים
ארצה  ואין  פליטה׃
