1.    The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, "Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didn't call us to go with you? We will burn your house around you with fire!"     And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.     ויצעק  איש  אפרים 
ויעבר  צפונה
ויאמרו  ליפתח  מדוע
עברת  להלחם  בבני־
עמון  ולנו  לא  קראת
ללכת  עמך  ביתך
נשרף  עליך  באש׃
    VYTSh'yQ 'aYSh 'aPhUrYM VY'yBUr TShPhVNH VY'aMUrV LYPhThCh MDV'y 'yBUrTh LHLChM BBNY- 'yMVN VLNV L'a QUr'aTh LLKTh 'yMK BYThK NShUrPh 'yLYK B'aSh.     And the men of Ephraim are called together, and pass over northward, and say to Jephthah, `Wherefore has thou passed over to fight against the Bene-Ammon, and on us hast not called to go with thee? thy house we burn over thee with fire.`     ecce autem in Ephraim orta seditio est nam transeuntes contra aquilonem dixerunt ad Iepthae quare vadens ad pugnam contra filios Ammon vocare nos noluisti ut pergeremus tecum igitur incendimus domum tuam
 
2.    Jephthah said to them, "I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn't save me out of their hand.     And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.     ויאמר  יפתח  אליהם 
איש  ריב  הייתי  אני
ועמי  ובני־עמון
מאד  ואזעק  אתכם
ולא־הושעתם  אותי
מידם׃
    VY'aMUr YPhThCh 'aLYHM 'aYSh UrYB HYYThY 'aNY V'yMY VBNY-'yMVN M'aD V'aZ'yQ 'aThKM VL'a-HVSh'yThM 'aVThY MYDM.     And Jephthah saith unto them, `A man of great strife I have been (I and my people) with the Bene-Ammon, and I call you, and ye have not saved me out of their hand,     quibus ille respondit disceptatio erat mihi et populo meo contra filios Ammon vehemens vocavique vos ut mihi praeberetis auxilium et facere noluistis
 
3.    When I saw that you didn't save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?"     And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?     ואראה  כי־אינך 
מושיע  ואשימה  נפשי
בכפי  ואעברה
אל־בני  עמון  ויתנם
יהוה  בידי  ולמה
עליתם  אלי  היום
הזה  להלחם  בי׃
    V'aUr'aH KY-'aYNK MVShY'y V'aShYMH NPhShY BKPhY V'a'yBUrH 'aL-BNY 'yMVN VYThNM YHVH BYDY VLMH 'yLYThM 'aLY HYVM HZH LHLChM BY.     and I see that thou art not a saviour, and I put my life in my hand, and pass over unto the Bene-Ammon, and Jehovah giveth them into my hand -- and why have ye come up unto me this day to fight against me?`     quod cernens posui in manibus meis animam meam transivique ad filios Ammon et tradidit eos Dominus in manus meas quid commerui ut adversum me consurgatis in proelium
 
4.    Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, "You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, [and] in the midst of Manasseh."     Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.     ויקבץ  יפתח 
את־כל־אנשי  גלעד
וילחם  את־אפרים
ויכו  אנשי  גלעד
את־  אפרים  כי  אמרו
פליטי  אפרים  אתם
גלעד  בתוך  אפרים
בתוך  מנשה׃
    VYQBTSh YPhThCh 'aTh-KL-'aNShY GL'yD VYLChM 'aTh-'aPhUrYM VYKV 'aNShY GL'yD 'aTh- 'aPhUrYM KY 'aMUrV PhLYTY 'aPhUrYM 'aThM GL'yD BThVK 'aPhUrYM BThVK MNShH.     And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fighteth with Ephraim, and the men of Gilead smite Ephraim, because they said, `Fugitives of Ephraim are ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim -- in the midst of Manasseh.`     vocatis itaque ad se cunctis viris Galaad pugnabat contra Ephraim percusseruntque viri Galaad Ephraim quia dixerat fugitivus est Galaad de Ephraim et habitat in medio Ephraim et Manasse
 
5.    The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. It was so, that when [any of] the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said to him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" If he said, "No;"     And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;     וילכד  גלעד 
את־מעברות  הירדן
לאפרים  והיה  כי
יאמרו  פליטי  אפרים
אעברה  ויאמרו  לו
אנשי־גלעד  האפרתי
אתה  ויאמר  לא׃
    VYLKD GL'yD 'aTh-M'yBUrVTh HYUrDN L'aPhUrYM VHYH KY Y'aMUrV PhLYTY 'aPhUrYM 'a'yBUrH VY'aMUrV LV 'aNShY-GL'yD H'aPhUrThY 'aThH VY'aMUr L'a.     And Gilead captureth the passages of the Jordan to Ephraim, and it hath been, when any of the fugitives of Ephraim say, `Let me pass over,` and the men of Gilead say to him, `An Ephramite thou?` and he saith, `No;`     occupaveruntque Galaaditae vada Iordanis per quae Ephraim reversurus erat cumque venisset ad ea de Ephraim numero fugiens atque dixisset obsecro ut me transire permittas dicebant ei Galaaditae numquid Ephrateus es quo dicente non sum
 
6.    then they said to him, "Now say 'Shibboleth;'" and he said "Sibboleth;" for he couldn't manage to pronounce it right: then they laid hold of him, and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time, forty-two thousand of Ephraim fell.     Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.     ויאמרו  לו  אמר־נא 
שבלת  ויאמר  סבלת
ולא  יכין  לדבר  כן
ויאחזו  אותו
וישחטוהו
אל־מעברות  הירדן
ויפל  בעת  ההיא
מאפרים  ארבעים
ושנים  אלף׃
    VY'aMUrV LV 'aMUr-N'a ShBLTh VY'aMUr SBLTh VL'a YKYN LDBUr KN VY'aChZV 'aVThV VYShChTVHV 'aL-M'yBUrVTh HYUrDN VYPhL B'yTh HHY'a M'aPhUrYM 'aUrB'yYM VShNYM 'aLPh.     that they say to him, `Say, I pray thee, Shibboleth;` and he saith, `Sibboleth,` and is not prepared to speak right -- and they seize him, and slaughter him at the passages of the Jordan, and there fall at that time, of Ephraim, forty and two chiefs.     interrogabant eum dic ergo sebboleth quod interpretatur spica qui respondebat tebboleth eadem littera spicam exprimere non valens statimque adprehensum iugulabant in ipso Iordanis transitu et ceciderunt in illo tempore de Ephraim quadraginta duo milia
 
7.    Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gilead.     And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.     וישפט  יפתח

ויקבר  בערי  גלעד׃
    VYShPhT YPhThCh 'aTh-YShUr'aL ShSh ShNYM VYMTh YPhThCh HGL'yDY VYQBUr B'yUrY GL'yD.     And Jephthah judged Israel six years, and Jephthah the Gileadite dieth, and is buried in one of the cities of Gilead.     iudicavitque Iepthae Galaadites Israhel sex annis et mortuus est ac sepultus in civitate sua Galaad
 
8.    After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.     And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.     וישפט  אחריו 
את־ישראל  אבצן
מבית  לחם׃
    VYShPhT 'aChUrYV 'aTh-YShUr'aL 'aBTShN MBYTh LChM.     And after him Ibzan of Beth-Lehem judgeth Israel,     post hunc iudicavit Israhel Abessan de Bethleem
 
9.    He had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. He judged Israel seven years.     And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.     ויהי־לו  שלשים 
בנים  ושלשים  בנות
שלח  החוצה  ושלשים
בנות  הביא  לבניו
מן־החוץ  וישפט
את־ישראל  שבע
שנים׃
    VYHY-LV ShLShYM BNYM VShLShYM BNVTh ShLCh HChVTShH VShLShYM BNVTh HBY'a LBNYV MN-HChVTSh VYShPhT 'aTh-YShUr'aL ShB'y ShNYM.     and he hath thirty sons and thirty daughters, he hath sent without and thirty daughters hath brought in to his sons from without; and he judgeth Israel seven years.     qui habuit triginta filios et totidem filias quas emittens foras maritis dedit et eiusdem numeri filiis suis accepit uxores introducens in domum suam qui septem annis iudicavit Israhel
 
10.    Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem.     Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.     וימת  אבצן  ויקבר 
בבית  לחם׃
    VYMTh 'aBTShN VYQBUr BBYTh LChM.     And Ibzan dieth, and is buried in Beth-Lehem.     mortuusque est ac sepultus in Bethleem
 
11.    After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.     And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.     וישפט  אחריו 
את־ישראל  אילון
הזבולני  וישפט
את־ישראל  עשר
שנים׃
    VYShPhT 'aChUrYV 'aTh-YShUr'aL 'aYLVN HZBVLNY VYShPhT 'aTh-YShUr'aL 'yShUr ShNYM.     And after him Elon the Zebulunite judgeth Israel, and he judgeth Israel ten years,     cui successit Ahialon Zabulonites et iudicavit Israhelem decem annis
 
12.    Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.     And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.     וימת  אלון  הזבולני 
ויקבר  באילון  בארץ
זבולן׃
    VYMTh 'aLVN HZBVLNY VYQBUr B'aYLVN B'aUrTSh ZBVLN.     and Elon the Zebulunite dieth, and is buried in Aijalon, in the land of Zebulun.     mortuusque est ac sepultus in Zabulon
 
13.    After him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.     And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.     וישפט  אחריו 
את־ישראל  עבדון
בן־הלל  הפרעתוני׃
    VYShPhT 'aChUrYV 'aTh-YShUr'aL 'yBDVN BN-HLL HPhUr'yThVNY.     And after him, Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, judgeth Israel,     post hunc iudicavit in Israhel Abdon filius Hellel Farathonites
 
14.    He had forty sons and thirty sons' sons, who rode on seventy donkey colts: and he judged Israel eight years.     And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.     ויהי־לו  ארבעים 
בנים  ושלשים  בני
בנים  רכבים
על־שבעים  עירם
וישפט  את־ישראל
שמנה  שנים׃
    VYHY-LV 'aUrB'yYM BNYM VShLShYM BNY BNYM UrKBYM 'yL-ShB'yYM 'yYUrM VYShPhT 'aTh-YShUr'aL ShMNH ShNYM.     and he hath forty sons, and thirty grandsons, riding on seventy ass-colts, and he judgeth Israel eight years.     qui habuit quadraginta filios et triginta ex eis nepotes ascendentes super septuaginta pullos asinarum et iudicavit in Israhel octo annis
 
15.    Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.     And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.     וימת  עבדון  בן־הלל 
הפרעתוני  ויקבר
בפרעתון  בארץ
אפרים  בהר  העמלקי׃
    VYMTh 'yBDVN BN-HLL HPhUr'yThVNY VYQBUr BPhUr'yThVN B'aUrTSh 'aPhUrYM BHUr H'yMLQY.     And Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, dieth, and is buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekite.     mortuusque est ac sepultus in Farathon terrae Ephraim in monte Amalech
