1.  *     سورة الحجر بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ــــ الر تلك ايات الكتاب وقران مبين     swr+ alHjr bsm allh alrHmn alrHym alr tlk ayat alktab wqran mbyn     A L R, those are The Book's evidences/verses, and (an) evident/clear Koran.     A.L.R. These (letters) are proofs of this scripture; a profound Quran.     A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear.
 
2.  *     ربما يود الذين كفروا لو كانوا مسلمين     rbma ywd alXyn kfrwa lw kanwa mslmyn     Maybe those who disbelieved wish/love if they were Moslems/submitters/surrenderers.     Certainly, those who disbelieved will wish they were submitters.     Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah.s will) in Islam.
 
3.  *     ذرهم ياكلوا ويتمتعوا ويلههم الامل فسوف يعلمون     Xrhm yaklwa wytmt`wa wylhhm alaml fswf y`lmwn     Leave them eat and they live long/enjoy, and the hope distracts/preoccupies them, so they will/shall know.     Let them eat, enjoy, and remain blinded by wishful thinking; they will find out.     Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them).
 
4.  *     ومااهلكنا من قرية الا ولها كتاب معلوم     wmaahlkna mn qry+ ala wlha ktab m`lwm     And We did not destroy from a village/urban city, except and for it (is) a known Book.     We never annihilated any community, except in accordance with a specific, predetermined time.     Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand.
 
5.  *     ماتسبق من امة اجلها ومايستأخرون     matsbq mn am+ ajlha wmaystAKrwn     None from a nation precedes its term/time, and they do not delay (it).     The end of any community can never be advanced, nor delayed.     Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it.
 
6.  *     وقالوا ياايها الذي نزل عليه الذكر انك لمجنون     wqalwa yaayha alXy nzl `lyh alXkr ank lmjnwn     And they said: "You, you who the reminder/remembrance was descended on him, that you are mad/insane (E)."     They said, "O you who received this reminder, you are crazy.     They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)!
 
7.  *     لو ماتاتينا بالملائكة ان كنت من الصادقين     lw matatyna balmlaYk+ an knt mn alSadqyn     If you (could) come to us with the angels, if you were from truthful! (expression of wonderment).     "Why do you not bring down the angels, if you are truthful?"     "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?"
 
8.  *     ماننزل الملائكة الا بالحق وماكانوا اذا منظرين     mannzl almlaYk+ ala balHq wmakanwa aXa mnZryn     We do not descend the angels except with the truth, and they (the disbelievers) were not then delayed/waited.     We do not send down the angels except for specific functions. Otherwise, no one will be respited.     We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have!
 
9.  *     انا نحن نزلنا الذكر وانا له لحافظون     ana nHn nzlna alXkr wana lh lHafZwn     That We, We descended the reminder/remembrance, and that We (are) for it, protectors/guards (E).     Absolutely, we have revealed the reminder, and, absolutely, we will preserve it.     We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption).
 
10.  *     ولقد ارسلنا من قبلك في شيع الاولين     wlqd arslna mn qblk fy $y` alawlyn     And We had descended from before you in the first's/beginner's groups/parties.     We have sent (messengers) before you to the communities in the past.     We did send apostles before thee amongst the religious sects of old:
 
11.  *     وماياتيهم من رسول الا كانوا به يستهزؤون     wmayatyhm mn rswl ala kanwa bh ysthzWwn     And none from a messenger comes to them, except they were with him mocking/making fun.     Every time a messenger went to them, they ridiculed him.     But never came an apostle to them but they mocked him.
 
12.  *     كذلك نسلكه في قلوب المجرمين     kXlk nslkh fy qlwb almjrmyn     As/like that We enter/insert it in the criminals'/sinners' hearts/minds.     We thus control the minds of the guilty.     Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners -
 
13.  *     لايؤمنون به وقد خلت سنة الاولين     layWmnwn bh wqd Klt sn+ alawlyn     They do not believe with it, and (the) manner/nature (of) the firsts/beginners had past/expired.     Consequently, they cannot believe in him. This has been the system since the past generations.     That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away.
 
14.  *     ولو فتحنا عليهم بابا من السماء فظلوا فيه يعرجون     wlw ftHna `lyhm baba mn alsma' fZlwa fyh y`rjwn     And if We opened on them a door/entrance from the sky/space, so they continued/remained in it ascending/zigzagging.     Even if we opened for them a gate into the sky, through which they climb;     Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein,
 
15.  *     لقالوا انما سكرت ابصارنا بل نحن قوم مسحورون     lqalwa anma skrt abSarna bl nHn qwm msHwrwn     They would have said: "But our eye/sights/understanding got closed and confused, but we are a bewitched/enchanted nation."     they will say, "Our eyes have been deceived. We have been bewitched."     They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery."
 
16.  *     ولقد جعلنا في السماء بروجا وزيناها للناظرين     wlqd j`lna fy alsma' brwja wzynaha llnaZryn     And We had made/created in the sky/space constellations, and We decorated/beautified it to the lookers/seers.     We placed galaxies in the sky, and adorned it for the beholders.     It is We Who have set out the zodiacal signs in the heavens, and made them fair-seeming to (all) beholders;
 
17.  *     وحفظناها من كل شيطان رجيم     wHfZnaha mn kl $yTan rjym     And We protected/guarded it from every cursed/expelled devil.     And we guarded it against every rejected devil.     And (moreover) We have guarded them from every evil spirit accursed:
 
18.  *     الا من استرق السمع فاتبعه شهاب مبين     ala mn astrq alsm` fatb`h $hab mbyn     Except who eavesdropped the hearing, so a clear/evident light from a fire source/a star followed him.     If any of them sneaks around to listen, a mighty projectile will chase him back.     But any that gains a hearing by stealth, is pursued by a flaming fire, bright (to see).
 
19.  *     والارض مددناها والقينا فيها رواسي وانبتنا فيها من كل شئ موزون     walarD mddnaha walqyna fyha rwasy wanbtna fyha mn kl $Y mwzwn     And the earth/Planet Earth, We extended/spread it, and We threw in it anchors/mountains, and We sprouted/grew in it from every thing weighed/measured/balanced.     As for the earth, we constructed it, and placed on it stabilizers (mountains), and we grew on it a perfect balance of everything.     And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance.
 
20.  *     وجعلنا لكم فيها معايش ومن لستم له برازقين     wj`lna lkm fyha m`ay$ wmn lstm lh brazqyn     And We made/created for you in it livelihoods/sustenances, and whom you are not to him with providing for.     We made it habitable for you, and for creatures you do not provide for.     And We have provided therein means of subsistence,- for you and for those for whose sustenance ye are not responsible.
 
21.  *     وان من شئ الا عندنا خزائنه وماننزله الا بقدر معلوم     wan mn $Y ala `ndna KzaYnh wmannzlh ala bqdr m`lwm     And that (there is not) from a thing, except at Us (is) its safes (treasures), and We do not descent it except with (a) known measure/quantity.     There is nothing that we do not own infinite amounts thereof. But we send it down in precise measure.     And there is not a thing but its (sources and) treasures (inexhaustible) are with Us; but We only send down thereof in due and ascertainable measures.
 
22.  *     وارسلنا الرياح لواقح فانزلنا من السماء ماء فاسقيناكموه وماانتم له بخازنين     warslna alryaH lwaqH fanzlna mn alsma' ma' fasqynakmwh wmaantm lh bKaznyn     And We sent the winds/breezes (as) pollinators, so We descended from the sky water, so We gave it to you to drink, and you are not for it with storing.     And we send the winds as pollinators, and cause water to come down from the sky for you to drink. Otherwise, you could not keep it palatable.     And We send the fecundating winds, then cause the rain to descend from the sky, therewith providing you with water (in abundance), though ye are not the guardians of its stores.
 
23.  *     وانا لنحن نحيي ونميت ونحن الوارثون     wana lnHn nHyy wnmyt wnHn alwarxwn     And that We, We are (E), We revive/make life and We make die, and We are the heirs/inheritants.     It is we who control life and death, and we are the ultimate inheritors.     And verily, it is We Who give life, and Who give death: it is We Who remain inheritors (after all else passes away).
 
24.  *     ولقد علمنا المستقدمين منكم ولقد علمنا المستاخرين     wlqd `lmna almstqdmyn mnkm wlqd `lmna almstaKryn     And We had known the advanced from you, and We had known the delayed/lagging behind.     And we fully know those among you who advance, and we fully know those who regress.     To Us are known those of you who hasten forward, and those who lag behind.
 
25.  *     وان ربك هو يحشرهم انه حكيم عليم     wan rbk hw yH$rhm anh Hkym `lym     And that your Lord, He gathers them, that He is wise/judicious, knowledgeable.     Your Lord will surely summon them. He is Most Wise, Omniscient.     Assuredly it is thy Lord Who will gather them together: for He is perfect in Wisdom and Knowledge.
 
26.  *     ولقد خلقنا الانسان من صلصال من حمأ مسنون     wlqd Klqna alansan mn SlSal mn HmA msnwn     And We had created the human/mankind from black (foul mud) dry mud/clay smoothened/rotted.     We created the human being from aged mud, like the potter's clay.     We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape;
 
27.  *     والجان خلقناه من قبل من نار السموم     waljan Klqnah mn qbl mn nar alsmwm     And the Jinn, We created him from before from (the) fire's burning wind.     As for the jinns, we created them, before that, from blazing fire.     And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind.
 
28.  *     واذ قال ربك للملائكة اني خالق بشرا من صلصال من حمأ مسنون     waX qal rbk llmlaYk+ any Kalq b$ra mn SlSal mn HmA msnwn     When/if your Lord said to the angels : "That I am creating (a) human/humans from black (foul mud) dry mud/clay smoothened/rotted."     Your Lord said to the angels, "I am creating a human being from aged mud, like the potter's clay.     Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape;
 
29.  *     فاذا سويته ونفخت فيه من روحي فقعوا له ساجدين     faXa swyth wnfKt fyh mn rwHy fq`wa lh sajdyn     So when/if I straightened him, and I blew in him from My Soul/Sprit, so fall/land/come to him prostrating.     "Once I perfect him, and blow into him from My spirit, you shall fall prostrate before him."     "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."
 
30.  *     فسجد الملائكة كلهم اجمعون     fsjd almlaYk+ klhm ajm`wn     So the angels all/all together prostrated.     The angels fell prostrate; all of them,     So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together:
 
31.  *     الا ابليس ابى ان يكون مع الساجدين     ala ablys abi an ykwn m` alsajdyn     Except Satan/Iblis, refused/hated that he be with the prostrating.     except Iblis (Satan). He refused to be with the prostrators.     Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves.
 
32.  *     قال ياابليس مالك الا تكون مع الساجدين     qal yaablys malk ala tkwn m` alsajdyn     He said: "You Satan, why (is it) for you (that) you not be with the prostrating?"     He said, "O Iblis (Satan), why are you not with the prostrators?"     ((Allah)) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?"
 
33.  *     قال لم اكن لاسجد لبشر خلقته من صلصال من حمأ مسنون     qal lm akn lasjd lb$r Klqth mn SlSal mn HmA msnwn     He said: "I was not to prostrate to (a) human You created him from black (foul mud) from dry mud/clay smoothened/rotted."     He said, "I am not to prostrate before a human being, whom You created from aged mud, like the potter's clay."     (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape."
 
34.  *     قال فاخرج منها فانك رجيم     qal faKrj mnha fank rjym     He said: "So get out from it, so that you are cursed/expelled."     He said, "Therefore, you must get out; you are banished.     ((Allah)) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed.
 
35.  *     وان عليك اللعنة الى يوم الدين     wan `lyk all`n+ ali ywm aldyn     And that on you (is) the curse/torture to the Judgment's Day/Resurrection Day.     "You have incurred My condemnation until the Day of Judgment."     "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment."
 
36.  *     قال رب فانظرني الى يوم يبعثون     qal rb fanZrny ali ywm yb`xwn     He said: "My Lord, so delay me to a day they be sent/resurrected/revived."     He said, "My Lord, respite me until the day they are resurrected."     (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised."
 
37.  *     قال فانك من المنظرين     qal fank mn almnZryn     He said: "So that (then) you are from the delayed."     He said, "You are respited.     ((Allah)) said: "Respite is granted thee
 
38.  *     الى يوم الوقت المعلوم     ali ywm alwqt alm`lwm     To (the) day of the time, the known.     "Until the specified day and time."     "Till the Day of the Time appointed."
 
39.  *     قال رب بما اغويتني لازينن لهم في الارض ولاغوينهم اجمعين     qal rb bma aGwytny lazynn lhm fy alarD wlaGwynhm ajm`yn     He said: "My Lord with what You misguided/enticed me, I will decorate/beautify for them in the earth/Planet Earth, and I will misguide/entice them (E) all/all together."     He said, "My Lord, since You have willed that I go astray, I will surely entice them on earth; I will send them all astray.     (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,-
 
40.  *     الا عبادك منهم المخلصين     ala `badk mnhm almKlSyn     Except Your worshippers/slaves from them, the faithful/loyal/devoted.     "Except those among Your worshipers who are devoted absolutely to You alone."     "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)."
 
41.  *     قال هذا صراط علي مستقيم     qal hXa SraT `ly mstqym     He said: "That (is) a straight/direct road/way on Me."     He said, "This is a law that is inviolable.     ((Allah)) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me.
 
42.  *     ان عبادي ليس لك عليهم سلطان الا من اتبعك من الغاوين     an `bady lys lk `lyhm slTan ala mn atb`k mn alGawyn     That My worshippers/slaves, power/control is not for you on them (you have no power/control over My worshippers/slaves) except who followed you from the misguided/failed.     "You have no power over My servants. You only have power over the strayers who follow you.     "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee."
 
43.  *     وان جهنم لموعدهم اجمعين     wan jhnm lmw`dhm ajm`yn     And that Hell (is) their appointment (E) all/all together.     "And Hell awaits them all.     And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all!
 
44.  *     لها سبعة ابواب لكل باب منهم جزء مقسوم     lha sb`+ abwab lkl bab mnhm jz' mqswm     For it (are) seven doors/entrances, to each door/entrance from them (is an) apportioned/divided part/portion.     "It will have seven gates. Each gate will get a specific share of them."     To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned.
 
45.  *     ان المتقين في جنات وعيون     an almtqyn fy jnat w`ywn     That the fearing and obeying (are) in treed gardens/paradises and water springs/wells.     As for the righteous, they will enjoy gardens and springs.     The righteous (will be) amid gardens and fountains (of clear-flowing water).
 
46.  *     ادخلوها بسلام امنين     adKlwha bslam amnyn     Enter it with safety/security/peace, safe/secure.     Enter therein, peaceful and secure.     (Their greeting will be): "Enter ye here in peace and security."
 
47.  *     ونزعنا مافي صدورهم من غل اخوانا على سرر متقابلين     wnz`na mafy Sdwrhm mn Gl aKwana `li srr mtqablyn     And We removed/pulled away what (is) in their chests (innermosts) from hatred/animosity, brothers on beds/sofas facing each other.     We remove all jealousy from their hearts. Like one family, they will be on adjacent furnishings.     And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury: (they will be) brothers (joyfully) facing each other on thrones (of dignity).
 
48.  *     لايمسهم فيها نصب وماهم منها بمخرجين     laymshm fyha nSb wmahm mnha bmKrjyn     Hardship/fatigue does not touch them in it, and they are not with being brought out from it.     Never will they suffer any fatigue therein; never will they be evicted therefrom.     There no sense of fatigue shall touch them, nor shall they (ever) be asked to leave.
 
49.  *     نبئ عبادي اني انا الغفور الرحيم     nbY `bady any ana alGfwr alrHym     Inform My worshippers/slaves, that I, I am the forgiving, the merciful.     Inform My servants that I am the Forgiver, Most Merciful.     Tell My servants that I am indeed the Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful;
 
50.  *     وان عذابي هو العذاب الاليم     wan `Xaby hw al`Xab alalym     And that My torture, it is the torture, the painful.     And that My retribution is the most painful retribution.     And that My Penalty will be indeed the most grievous Penalty.
 
51.  *     ونبئهم عن ضيف ابراهيم     wnbYhm `n Dyf abrahym     And inform them about Abraham's guests.     Inform them about Abraham's guests.     Tell them about the guests of Abraham.
 
52.  *     اذ دخلوا عليه فقالوا سلاما قال انامنكم وجلون     aX dKlwa `lyh fqalwa slama qal anamnkm wjlwn     When/if they entered on (to) him, so they said: "Greeting/peace." He said: "That we are afraid/apprehensive from you."     When they entered his quarters, they said, "Peace." He said, "We are apprehensive about you."     When they entered his presence and said, "Peace!" He said, "We feel afraid of you!"
 
53.  *     قالوا لاتوجل انا نبشرك بغلام عليم     qalwa latwjl ana nb$rk bGlam `lym     They said: "Do not be afraid/apprehensive, that we, we announce good news to you with (of) a knowledgeable boy (new son)."     They said, "Do not be apprehensive. We have good news for you: an enlightened son."     They said: "Fear not! We give thee glad tidings of a son endowed with wisdom."
 
54.  *     قال ابشرتموني على ان مسني الكبر فبم تبشرون     qal ab$rtmwny `li an msny alkbr fbm tb$rwn     He said: "Did you announce good news to me on that the old age touched me so with what (do) you announce177good news to me?"     He said, "How can you give me such good news, when I am so old? Do you still give me this good news?"     He said: "Do ye give me glad tidings that old age has seized me? Of what, then, is your good news?"
 
55.  *     قالوا بشرناك بالحق فلا تكن من القانطين     qalwa b$rnak balHq fla tkn mn alqanTyn     They said: "We announced to you with the good news, so do not be from the despaired/despairing."     They said, "The good news we give you is true; do not despair."     They said: "We give thee glad tidings in truth: be not then in despair!"
 
56.  *     قال ومن يقنط من رحمة ربه الا الضالون     qal wmn yqnT mn rHm+ rbh ala alDalwn     He said: "And who despairs from his Lord's mercy, except the misguided?"     He said, "None despairs of his Lord's mercy, except the strayers."     He said: "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord, but such as go astray?"
 
57.  *     قال فما خطبكم ايها المرسلون     qal fma KTbkm ayha almrslwn     He said: "So what (is) your matter/affair/concern, you, the messengers?"     He said, "What is your mission, O messengers?"     Abraham said: "What then is the business on which ye (have come), O ye messengers (of Allah.?"
 
58.  *     قالوا انا ارسلنا الى قوم مجرمين     qalwa ana arslna ali qwm mjrmyn     They said: "We are sent to a nation (of) criminals/sinners."     They said, "We are being dispatched to guilty people.     They said: "We have been sent to a people (deep) in sin,
 
59.  *     الا ال لوط انا لمنجوهم اجمعين     ala al lwT ana lmnjwhm ajm`yn     Except Lot's family, We are saving/rescuing them (E) all together.     "As for Lot's family, we will save them all.     "Excepting the adherents of Lut: them we are certainly (charged) to save (from harm),- All -
 
60.  *     الا امراته قدرنا انها لمن الغابرين     ala amrath qdrna anha lmn alGabryn     Except his woman (wife). We predestined/evaluated that she truly is from (E) the remaining behind.     "But not his wife; she is destined to be with the doomed."     "Except his wife, who, We have ascertained, will be among those who will lag behind."
 
61.  *     فلما جاء ال لوط المرسلون     flma ja' al lwT almrslwn     So when the messengers came (to) Lot's family.     The messengers went to Lot's town.     At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut,
 
62.  *     قال انكم قوم منكرون     qal ankm qwm mnkrwn     He said: "That you are a disguised/unknown nation."     He said, "You are unknown people."     He said: "Ye appear to be uncommon folk."
 
63.  *     قالوا بل جئناك بماكانوا فيه يمترون     qalwa bl jYnak bmakanwa fyh ymtrwn     They said: "But we came to you, with what they were in it doubting/arguing."     They said, "We bring to you what they have been doubting.     They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt.
 
64.  *     واتيناك بالحق وانا لصادقون     watynak balHq wana lSadqwn     And we came/brought (to) you with the truth, and that we are truthful (E).     "We bring to you the truth; we are truthful.     "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth.
 
65.  *     فاسر باهلك بقطع من الليل واتبع ادبارهم ولايلتفت منكم احد وامضوا حيث تؤمرون     fasr bahlk bqT` mn allyl watb` adbarhm wlayltft mnkm aHd wamDwa Hyx tWmrwn     So move/travel/depart at night with your family/people with portions from the night and follow their backs/ends; and no one from you (should) turn around, and proceed/complete where/when you are being ordered/commanded.     "You shall take your family during the night. Stay behind them, and make sure that none of you looks back. Go straight as commanded."     "Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered."
 
66.  *     وقضينا اليه ذلك الامر ان دابر هؤلاء مقطوع مصبحين     wqDyna alyh Xlk alamr an dabr hWla' mqTw` mSbHyn     And We ordered/passed judgment to him (of) that the matter/affair/order/command, that those (people's) root/remainder (is) cut off/severed by the morning/daybreak.     We delivered to him this command: those people are to be annihilated in the morning.     And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning.
 
67.  *     وجاء اهل المدينة يستبشرون     wja' ahl almdyn+ ystb$rwn     And the city's/town's people came cheerful/rejoicing."     The people of the city came joyfully.     The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men).
 
68.  *     قال ان هؤلاء ضيفي فلا تفضحون     qal an hWla' Dyfy fla tfDHwn     He said: "That those (are) my guests, so do not expose my faults (scandalize me)."     He said, "These are my guests; do not embarrass me.     Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not:
 
69.  *     واتقوا الله ولاتخزون     watqwa allh wlatKzwn     And fear and obey God and do not shame/disgrace me.     "Fear GOD, and do not shame me."     "But fear Allah, and shame me not."
 
70.  *     قالوا اولم ننهك عن العالمين     qalwa awlm nnhk `n al`almyn     They said: "And did we not forbid/prevent you from the creations all together/(universes)?"     They said, "Did we not enjoin you from contacting anyone?"     They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?"
 
71.  *     قال هؤلاء بناتي ان كنتم فاعلين     qal hWla' bnaty an kntm fa`lyn     He said: "Those (are) my daughters, if you were making/doing."     He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must."     He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)."
 
72.  *     لعمرك انهم لفي سكرتهم يعمهون     l`mrk anhm lfy skrthm y`mhwn     To your life/age (an oath) that they truly are in (E) their intoxication/loss of judgment being confused/puzzled.     But, alas, they were totally blinded by their lust.     Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro.
 
73.  *     فاخذتهم الصيحة مشرقين     faKXthm alSyH+ m$rqyn     So the loud strong cry/torture raid took/punished them at sunrise.     Consequently, the disaster struck them in the morning.     But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning,
 
74.  *     فجعلنا عاليها سافلها وامطرنا عليهم حجارة من سجيل     fj`lna `alyha saflha wamTrna `lyhm Hjar+ mn sjyl     So We made its highest/elevated, its lowest/bottom, and We rained on them stones of dry and hardened mud.     We turned it upside down, and showered them with devastating rocks.     And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay.
 
75.  *     ان في ذلك لايات للمتوسمين     an fy Xlk layat llmtwsmyn     That in that (are) evidences/signs (E), to the observing/scrutinizing.     This is a lesson for those who possess intelligence.     Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand.
 
76.  *     وانها لسبيل مقيم     wanha lsbyl mqym     And that it truly is with a continuing/keeping up path/means (E).     This will always be the system.     And the (cities were) right on the high-road.
 
77.  *     ان في ذلك لاية للمؤمنين     an fy Xlk lay+ llmWmnyn     That in that (is) a sign/evidence (E) to the believers.     This is a sign for the believers.     Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed.
 
78.  *     وان كان اصحاب الايكة لظالمين     wan kan aSHab alayk+ lZalmyn     And if owners/company (of) the thicket/dense tangled trees were unjust/oppressive (E).     The people of the woods also were transgressors.     And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers;
 
79.  *     فانتقمنا منهم وانهما لبامام مبين     fantqmna mnhm wanhma lbamam mbyn     So We revenged from them that they (B) truly (the two nations) are with a clear/evident leader/example (E).     Consequently, we avenged from them, and both communities are fully documented.     So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see.
 
80.  *     ولقد كذب اصحاب الحجر المرسلين     wlqd kXb aSHab alHjr almrslyn     And the forbidden's/mind's owners/company denied the messengers.     The people of Al-Hijr disbelieved the messengers.     The Companions of the Rocky Tract also rejected the apostles:
 
81.  *     واتيناهم اياتنا فكانوا عنها معرضين     watynahm ayatna fkanwa `nha m`rDyn     And We gave/brought them Our verses/evidences, so they were objecting/opposing/turning away from it.     We gave them our revelations, but they disregarded them.     We sent them Our Sings, but they persisted in turning away from them.
 
82.  *     وكانوا ينحتون من الجبال بيوتا امنين     wkanwa ynHtwn mn aljbal bywta amnyn     And they were carving out/cutting from the mountains houses/homes safely/securely.     They used to carve secure homes out of the mountains.     Out of the mountains did they hew (their) edifices, (feeling themselves) secure.
 
83.  *     فاخذتهم الصيحة مصبحين     faKXthm alSyH+ mSbHyn     So the loud strong cry/torture raid took/punished them in the morning/daybreak. 178     The disaster hit them in the morning.     But the (mighty) Blast seized them of a morning,
 
84.  *     فما اغنى عنهم ما كانوا يكسبون     fma aGni `nhm ma kanwa yksbwn     So what they were gaining/acquiring did not enrich/suffice them from them (was of no benefit to them).     What they hoarded did not help them.     And of no avail to them was all that they did (with such art and care)!
 
85.  *     وماخلقنا السماوات والارض ومابينهما الا بالحق وان الساعة لاتية فاصفح الصفح الجميل     wmaKlqna alsmawat walarD wmabynhma ala balHq wan alsa`+ laty+ faSfH alSfH aljmyl     And We did not create the skies/space and the earth/Planet Earth and what (is) between them (B) except with the truth, and that truly the Hour/Resurrection is coming (E) so forgive/pardon the forgiveness/pardon, the beautiful/graceful.     We did not create the heavens and the earth, and everything between them, except for a specific purpose. The end of the world will come, so treat them with benign neglect.     We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, but for just ends. And the Hour is surely coming (when this will be manifest). So overlook (any human faults) with gracious forgiveness.
 
86.  *     ان ربك هو الخلاق العليم     an rbk hw alKlaq al`lym     That truly your Lord (is) the creator (E), the knowledgeable.     Your Lord is the Creator, the Omniscient.     For verily it is thy Lord who is the Master-Creator, knowing all things.
 
87.  *     ولقد اتيناك سبعا من المثاني والقران العظيم     wlqd atynak sb`a mn almxany walqran al`Zym     And We had given/brought you seven from the doubles/strength/capacity and the Koran, the great.     We have given you the seven pairs, and the great Quran.     And We have bestowed upon thee the Seven Oft-repeated (verses) and the Grand Qur'an.
 
88.  *     لاتمدن عينيك الى مامتعنا به ازواجا منهم ولاتحزن عليهم واخفض جناحك للمؤمنين     latmdn `ynyk ali mamt`na bh azwaja mnhm wlatHzn `lyhm waKfD jnaHk llmWmnyn     Do not extend/spread your two eyes to what We made spouses/couples from them enjoy with it, and do not be sad/grievous on (for) them, and be lenient/comforting/lower your wing/side (kindness) to the believers.     Do not be jealous of what we bestowed upon the other (messengers), and do not be saddened (by the disbelievers), and lower your wing for the believers.     Strain not thine eyes. (Wistfully) at what We have bestowed on certain classes of them, nor grieve over them: but lower thy wing (in gentleness) to the believers.
 
89.  *     وقل اني انا النذير المبين     wql any ana alnXyr almbyn     And say: "That I, I am the warner/giver of notice, the clear/evident."     And proclaim: "I am the manifest warner."     And say: "I am indeed he that warneth openly and without ambiguity,"-
 
90.  *     كما انزلنا على المقتسمين     kma anzlna `li almqtsmyn     As We descended on the apportioners/dividers/distributors.     We will deal with the dividers.     (Of just such wrath) as We sent down on those who divided (Scripture into arbitrary parts),-
 
91.  *     الذين جعلوا القران عضين     alXyn j`lwa alqran `Dyn     Those who made the Koran bits/divisions/enchantments.     They accept the Quran only partially.     (So also on such) as have made Qur'an into shreds (as they please).
 
92.  *     فوربك لنسألنهم اجمعين     fwrbk lnsAlnhm ajm`yn     So by/with your Lord, We will ask/question them (E) all together.     By your Lord, we will question them all,     Therefore, by the Lord, We will, of a surety, call them to account,
 
93.  *     عما كانوا يعملون     `ma kanwa y`mlwn     About what they were making/doing.     about everything they have done.     For all their deeds.
 
94.  *     فاصدع بماتؤمر واعرض عن المشركين     faSd` bmatWmr wa`rD `n alm$rkyn     So uncover/declare openly with what you are being ordered/commanded, and turn away from the sharers/takers of partners (with God).     Therefore, carry out the orders given to you, and disregard the idol worshipers.     Therefore expound openly what thou art commanded, and turn away from those who join false gods with Allah.
 
95.  *     انا كفيناك المستهزئين     ana kfynak almsthzYyn     That We truly make you sufficient (protect you) against the mocking/making fun.     We will spare you the mockers,     For sufficient are We unto thee against those who scoff,-
 
96.  *     الذين يجعلون مع الله الها اخر فسوف يعلمون     alXyn yj`lwn m` allh alha aKr fswf y`lmwn     Those who create/put with God another god, so they will/shall know.     who set up another god beside GOD. They will surely find out.     Those who adopt, with Allah, another god: but soon will they come to know.
 
97.  *     ولقد نعلم انك يضيق صدرك بما يقولون     wlqd n`lm ank yDyq Sdrk bma yqwlwn     And We had know (known) that you, your chest (innermost) narrows/tightens becuase (of) what they say.     We know full well that you may be annoyed by their utterances.     We do indeed know how thy heart is distressed at what they say.
 
98.  *     فسبح بحمد ربك وكن من الساجدين     fsbH bHmd rbk wkn mn alsajdyn     So praise/glorify with your Lord's praise/gratitude/thanks, and be from the prostrating.     You shall sing the praises of your Lord, and be with the prostrators.     But celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and be of those who prostrate themselves in adoration.
 
99.  *     واعبد ربك حتى ياتيك اليقين     wa`bd rbk Hti yatyk alyqyn     And worship your Lord, until the assurance/certainty (death) comes to you. 179     And worship your Lord, in order to attain certainty.     And serve thy Lord until there come unto thee the Hour that is Certain.
