| 1. * | سورة البلد بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ لااقسم بهذا البلد | swr+ albld bsm allh alrHmn alrHym ? laaqsm bhXa albld | I do not swear/make oath with that, the country/land. | I solemnly swear by this town. | I do call to witness this City;- | ||||
| 2. * | وانت حل بهذا البلد | want Hl bhXa albld | And you are placed in/occupying (residing) at this, the country/land. | The town where you live. | And thou art a freeman of this City;- | ||||
| 3. * | ووالد وماولد | wwald wmawld | And a father and what he gave birth (to)/procreated. | The begetting and the begotten. | And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- | ||||
| 4. * | لقد خلقنا الانسان في كبد | lqd Klqna alansan fy kbd | We had created the human/mankind in hardship. | We created the human being to work hard (to redeem himself). | Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. | ||||
| 5. * | ايحسب ان لن يقدر عليه احد | ayHsb an ln yqdr `lyh aHd | Does he think/suppose that no one is capable/over powering on (over) him? | Does he think that no one will ever call him to account? | Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? | ||||
| 6. * | يقول اهلكت مالا لبدا | yqwl ahlkt mala lbda | He says: "I destroyed/wasted plenty property/possession/wealth." | He boasts, "I spent so much money!" | He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! | ||||
| 7. * | ايحسب ان لم يره احد | ayHsb an lm yrh aHd | Does he think/suppose that (E) no one sees him? | Does he think that no one sees him? | Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? | ||||
| 8. * | الم نجعل له عينين | alm nj`l lh `ynyn | Did We not make/create for him two eyes? | Did we not give him two eyes? | Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- | ||||
| 9. * | ولسانا وشفتين | wlsana w$ftyn | And a tongue, and two lips? | A tongue and two lips? | And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- | ||||
| 10. * | وهديناه النجدين | whdynah alnjdyn | And We guided him (to) the two paths/good or bad ? | Did we not show him the two paths? | And shown him the two highways? | ||||
| 11. * | فلا اقتحم العقبة | fla aqtHm al`qb+ | So he did not rush/force (himself) into the high mountain path/road ? | He should choose the difficult path. | But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. | ||||
| 12. * | وماادراك ماالعقبة | wmaadrak maal`qb+ | And what made you know/informed you what the high mountain path/road (is) ? | Which one is the difficult path? | And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- | ||||
| 13. * | فك رقبة | fk rqb+ | Releasing/freeing a neck/person/slave. | The freeing of slaves. | (It is:) freeing the bondman; | ||||
| 14. * | او اطعام في يوم ذي مسغبة | aw aT`am fy ywm Xy msGb+ | Or feeding in a day/time of hunger/starvation/famine. | Feeding, during the time of hardship. | Or the giving of food in a day of privation | ||||
| 15. * | يتيما ذا مقربة | ytyma Xa mqrb+ | An orphan of a relation/near/close. | Orphans who are related. | To the orphan with claims of relationship, | ||||
| 16. * | او مسكينا ذا متربة | aw mskyna Xa mtrb+ | Or a poorest of poor/poor oppressed of poverty. | Or the poor who is in need. | Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. | ||||
| 17. * | ثم كان من الذين امنوا وتواصوا بالصبر وتواصوا بالمرحمة | xm kan mn alXyn amnwa wtwaSwa balSbr wtwaSwa balmrHm+ | Then he was from those who believed and directed/commanded each other with the patience, and directed/commanded each other with the mercy/compassion. | And being one of those who believe, and exhorting one another to be steadfast, and exhorting one another to be kind. | Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. | ||||
| 18. * | اولئك اصحاب الميمنة | awlYk aSHab almymn+ | Those are the blessings'/right's (side's/hand's) owners/friends/company. | These have deserved happiness. | Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. | ||||
| 19. * | والذين كفروا باياتنا هم اصحاب المشئمة | walXyn kfrwa bayatna hm aSHab alm$Ym+ | And those who disbelieved with Our verses/evidences, they are the bad omen's/left side's owners/friends/company. | As for those who disbelieved in our revelations, they have incurred misery. | But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. | ||||
| 20. * | عليهم نار مؤصدة | `lyhm nar mWSd+ | Stationary/residing fire (is) on them. | They will be confined in the Hellfire. | On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). | ||||
