1.    שיר  המעלות 
זכור־יהוה  לדוד  את
כל־ענותו׃
    Lord, remember David, and all his afflictions:     {A Song of Ascents.} Yahweh, remember David and all his affliction,     A Song of the going up.
Lord, give thought to David, and to all his troubles;
 
2.    אשר  נשבע  ליהוה 
נדר  לאביר  יעקב׃
    How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;     how he swore to Yahweh, and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:     How he made an oath to the Lord, and gave his word to the great God of Jacob, saying,
 
3.    אם־אבא  באהל  ביתי 
אם־אעלה  על־ערש
יצועי׃
    Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;     "Surely I will not come into the structure of my house, nor go up into my bed;     Truly, I will not come into my house, or go to my bed,
 
4.    אם־אתן  שנת  לעיני 
לעפעפי  תנומה׃
    I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,     I will not give sleep to my eyes, or slumber to my eyelids;     I will not give sleep to my eyes, or rest to my eyeballs,
 
5.    עד־אמצא  מקום 
ליהוה  משכנות
לאביר  יעקב׃
    Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.     until I find out a place for Yahweh, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."     Till I have got a place for the Lord, a resting-place for the great God of Jacob.
 
6.    הנה־שמענוה  באפרתה 
מצאנוה  בשדי־יער׃
    Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.     Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah. We found it in the field of Jaar:     We had news of it at Ephrathah: we came to it in the fields of the wood.
 
7.    נבואה  למשכנותיו 
נשתחוה  להדם
רגליו׃
    We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.     "We will go into his dwelling place. We will worship at his footstool.     Let us go into his tent; let us give worship at his feet.
 
8.    קומה  יהוה  למנוחתך 
אתה  וארון  עזך׃
    Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.     Arise, Yahweh, into your resting place; you, and the ark of your strength.     Come back, O Lord, to your resting-place; you and the ark of your strength.
 
9.    כהניך  ילבשו־צדק 
וחסידיך  ירננו׃
    Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.     Let your priest be clothed with righteousness. Let your saints shout for joy!"     Let your priests be clothed with righteousness; and let your saints give cries of joy.
 
10.    בעבור  דוד  עבדך 
אל־תשב  פני  משיחך׃
    For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.     For your servant David's sake, don't turn away the face of your anointed one.     Because of your servant David, do not give up your king.
 
11.    נשבע־יהוה  לדוד 
אמת  לא־ישוב  ממנה
מפרי  בטנך  אשית
לכסא־לך׃
    The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.     Yahweh has sworn to David in truth. He will not turn from it: "I will set the fruit of your body on your throne.     The Lord gave a true oath to David, which he will not take back, saying, I will give your kingdom to the fruit of your body.
 
12.    אם־ישמרו  בניך 
בריתי  ועדתי  זו
אלמדם  גם־בניהם
עדי־עד  ישבו  לכסא־
לך׃
    If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.     If your children will keep my covenant, my testimony that I will teach them, their children also will sit on your throne forevermore."     If your children keep my word, and the teachings which I will give them, their children will be rulers of your kingdom for ever.
 
13.    כי־בחר  יהוה  בציון 
אוה  למושב  לו׃
    For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.     For Yahweh has chosen Zion. He has desired it for his habitation.     For the Lord's heart is on Zion, desiring it for his resting-place.
 
14.    זאת־מנוחתי  עדי־עד 
פה־אשב  כי  אותיה׃
    This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.     "This is my resting place forever. Here I will live, for I have desired it.     This is my rest for ever: here will I ever be; for this is my desire.
 
15.    צידה  ברך  אברך 
אביוניה  אשביע
לחם׃
    I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.     I will abundantly bless her provision. I will satisfy her poor with bread.     My blessing will be on her food; and her poor will be full of bread.
 
16.    וכהניה  אלביש  ישע 
וחסידיה  רנן
ירננו׃
    I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.     Her priests I will also clothe with salvation. Her saints will shout aloud for joy.     Her priests will be clothed with salvation; and her saints will give cries of joy.
 
17.    שם  אצמיח  קרן  לדוד 
ערכתי  נר  למשיחי׃
    There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.     There I will make the horn of David to bud. I have ordained a lamp for my anointed.     There I will make the horn of David fertile: I have made ready a light for my king.
 
18.    אויביו  אלביש  בשת 
ועליו  יציץ  נזרו׃
    His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.     I will clothe his enemies with shame, but on himself, his crown will be resplendent."     His haters will be clothed with shame; but I will make his crown shining.
