לדוד אל־תתחר במרעים אל־תקנא בעשי עולה׃ |
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. | {By David.} Don't fret because of evildoers, neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness. |
Of David. Do not be angry because of the wrongdoers, or have envy of the workers of evil. |

כי כחציר מהרה ימלו וכירק דשא יבולון׃ |
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. | For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither like the green herb. | For they will quickly be cut down like grass, and become dry like the green plants. | |||
| 3. |
בטח ביהוה ועשה־טוב שכן־ארץ ורעה אמונה׃ |
Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. | Trust in Yahweh, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture. | Have faith in the Lord, and do good; be at rest in the land, and go after righteousness. | |||

והתענג על־יהוה ויתן־לך משאלת לבך׃ |
Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. | Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. | So will your delight be in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires. | |||

גול על־יהוה דרכך ובטח עליו והוא יעשה׃ |
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. | Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this: | Put your life in the hands of the Lord; have faith in him and he will do it. | |||

והוציא כאור צדקך ומשפטך כצהרים׃ |
And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. | he will make your righteousness go forth as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun. | And he will make your righteousness be seen like the light, and your cause like the shining of the sun. | |||

דום ליהוה והתחולל לו אל־תתחר במצליח דרכו באיש עשה מזמות׃ |
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. | Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Don't fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen. | Take your rest in the Lord, waiting quietly for him; do not be angry because of the man who does well in his evil ways, and gives effect to his bad designs. | |||

הרף מאף ועזב חמה אל־תתחר אך־להרע׃ |
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. | Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don't fret, it leads only to evildoing. | Put an end to your wrath and be no longer bitter; do not give way to angry feeling which is a cause of sin. | |||

כי־מרעים יכרתון וקוי יהוה המה יירשו־ארץ׃ |
For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. | For evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for Yahweh shall inherit the land. | For the evil-doers will be cut off: but those who have faith in the Lord will have the earth for their heritage. | |||

ועוד מעט ואין רשע והתבוננת על־מקומו ואיננו׃ |
For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. | For yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more. Yes, though you look for his place, he isn't there. | For in a short time the evil-doer will be gone: you will go searching for his place, and it will not be there. | |||

וענוים יירשו־ארץ והתענגו על־רב שלום׃ |
But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. | But the humble shall inherit the land, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. | But the gentle will have the earth for their heritage; they will take their delight in peace without measure. | |||

זמם רשע לצדיק וחרק עליו שניו׃ |
The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. | The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth. | The sinner has evil designs against the upright, lifting up the voice of wrath against him. | |||
| 13. |
אדני ישחק־לו כי־ראה כי־יבא יומו׃ |
The LORD shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming. | The Lord will laugh at him, for he sees that his day is coming. | He will be laughed at by the Lord, who sees that his day is coming. | |||

חרב פתחו רשעים ודרכו קשתם להפיל עני ואביון לטבוח ישרי־דרך׃ |
The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation. | The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who are upright in the way. | The evil-doers have taken out their swords, their bows are bent; for crushing the poor, and to put to death those who are upright in their ways. | |||

חרבם תבוא בלבם וקשתותם תשברנה׃ |
Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken. | Their sword shall enter into their own heart. Their bows shall be broken. | But their swords will be turned into their hearts, and their bows will be broken. | |||

טוב־מעט לצדיק מהמון רשעים רבים׃ |
A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. | Better is a little that the righteous has, than the abundance of many wicked. | The little which the good man has is better than the wealth of evil-doers. | |||
| 17. |
כי זרועות רשעים תשברנה וסומך צדיקים יהוה׃ |
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous. | For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but Yahweh upholds the righteous. | For the arms of the evil-doers will be broken: but the Lord is the support of the good. | |||

יודע יהוה ימי תמימם ונחלתם לעולם תהיה׃ |
The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. | Yahweh knows the days of the perfect. Their inheritance shall be forever. | The days of the upright are numbered by the Lord, and their heritage will be for ever. | |||

לא־יבשו בעת רעה ובימי רעבון ישבעו׃ |
They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. | They shall not be disappointed in the time of evil. In the days of famine they shall be satisfied. | They will not be shamed in the evil time, and in the days when all are in need of food they will have enough. | |||

כי רשעים יאבדו ואיבי יהוה כיקר כרים כלו בעשן כלו׃ |
But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away. | But the wicked shall perish. The enemies of Yahweh shall be like the beauty of the fields. They will vanish-- vanish like smoke. | But the wrongdoers will come to destruction, and the haters of the Lord will be like the fat of lambs, they will be burned up; they will go up in smoke, and never again be seen. | |||

לוה רשע ולא ישלם וצדיק חונן ונותן׃ |
The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth. | The wicked borrow, and don't pay back, but the righteous give generously. | The sinner takes money and does not give it back; but the upright man has mercy, and gives to others. | |||

כי מברכיו יירשו ארץ ומקלליו יכרתו׃ |
For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off. | For such as are blessed by him shall inherit the land. Those who are cursed by him shall be cut off. | Those who have his blessing will have the earth for their heritage; but those who are cursed by him will be cut off. | |||

מיהוה מצעדי־גבר כוננו ודרכו יחפץ׃ |
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. | A man's goings are established by Yahweh. He delights in his way. | The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he takes delight in his way. | |||

כי־יפל לא־יוטל כי־יהוה סומך ידו׃ |
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. | Though he stumble, he shall not fall, for Yahweh holds him up with his hand. | Even if he has a fall he will not be without help: for the hand of the Lord is supporting him. | |||

נער הייתי גם־זקנתי ולא־ראיתי צדיק נעזב וזרעו מבקש־לחם׃ |
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. | I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread. | I have been young, and now am old, but I have not seen the good man without help, or his children looking for bread. | |||
| 26. |
כל־היום חונן ומלוה וזרעו לברכה׃ |
He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. | All day long he deals graciously, and lends. His seed is blessed. | All the day he is ready to have mercy and to give; his children are a blessing. | |||
| 27. |
סור מרע ועשה־טוב ושכן לעולם׃ |
Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. | Depart from evil, and do good. Live securely forever. | Be turned from evil, and do good; and your place will be for ever. | |||

כי יהוה אהב משפט ולא־יעזב את־חסידיו לעולם נשמרו וזרע רשעים נכרת׃ |
For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. | For Yahweh loves justice, and doesn't forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. | For the Lord is a lover of righteousness, and takes care of his saints; they will be kept safe for ever; but the seed of the evil-doers will be cut off. | |||

צדיקים יירשו־ארץ וישכנו לעד עליה׃ |
The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever. | The righteous shall inherit the land, and live in it forever. | The upright will have the earth for their heritage, and will go on living there for ever. | |||

פי־צדיק יהגה חכמה ולשונו תדבר משפט׃ |
The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. | The mouth of the righteous talks of wisdom. His tongue speaks justice. | The mouth of the good man says words of wisdom; the talk of his tongue is of righteousness. | |||

תורת אלהיו בלבו לא תמעד אשריו׃ |
The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide. | The law of his God is in his heart. None of his steps shall slide. | The law of his God is in his heart; he will never make a false step. | |||

צופה רשע לצדיק ומבקש להמיתו׃ |
The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. | The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to kill him. | The sinners are watching the upright man, desiring to put him to death. | |||
| 33. |
יהוה לא־יעזבנו בידו ולא ירשיענו בהשפטו׃ |
The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged. | Yahweh will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged. | The Lord will not give him into their hands, or be against him when he is judged. | |||

קוה אל־יהוה ושמר דרכו וירוממך לרשת ארץ בהכרת רשעים תראה׃ |
Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. | Wait for Yahweh, and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. | Be waiting for the Lord, and keep his way; and you will be lifted up, and have the land for your heritage: when the evil-doers are cut off, you will see it. | |||

ראיתי רשע עריץ ומתערה כאזרח רענן׃ |
I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. | I have seen the wicked in great power, spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. | I have seen the evil-doer in great power, covering the earth like a great tree. | |||

ויעבר והנה איננו ואבקשהו ולא נמצא׃ |
Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. | But he passed away, and behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found. | But he came to an end, and there was no sign of him; I made a search for him and he was not there. | |||

שמר־תם וראה ישר כי־אחרית לאיש שלום׃ |
Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. | Mark the perfect man, and see the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace. | Give attention to the good man, and take note of the upright; because the end of that man is peace. | |||
| 38. |
ופשעים נשמדו יחדו אחרית רשעים נכרתה׃ |
But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. | As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together. The future of the wicked shall be cut off. | But as for the sinners, they will be cut off together; the end of the wrongdoers is destruction. | |||

ותשועת צדיקים מיהוה מעוזם בעת צרה׃ |
But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. | But the salvation of the righteous is from Yahweh. He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. | But the Lord is the saviour of the upright: he is their strength in the time of trouble. | |||

ויעזרם יהוה ויפלטם יפלטם מרשעים ויושיעם כי־חסו בו׃ |
And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him. | Yahweh helps them, and rescues them. He rescues them from the wicked, and saves them, Because they have taken refuge in him. | And the Lord will be their help, and keep them safe: he will take them out of the hands of the evil-doers, and be their saviour, because they had faith in him. | |||
